Jenny's Lunchbox is a Tallahassee institution of sorts. It's been there ever since I can remember. I enjoy it for a quick breakfast when I'm on that side of town. Today, for example, I had two eggs, sausage, hashbrowns, a side of grits and a cup of coffee for exactly $10. Other than the fact that my hashbrowns were a little over-cooked, the meal was great, and for the price, you can't beat it. Jenny's could improve on the little details, such as providing real half-n-half creamers for the coffee and actual butter instead of the artery-clogging "buttery spread." I requested real butter, and they had some, but it's not what they put out on the tables. All-in-all, Jenny's offers good food at an even better price. I've never had anything here that has wowed me, that I'd go telling all of my friends about. The food is good, not great. The portion sizes are huge. On my last visit I had the country fried steak and was pleased with it. The place is small, but has outside seating. I would not recommend going with a group larger than 4. The Lunchbox is a standard on the TLH homegrown breakfast circuit. It's a VERY inexpensive way to enjoy the thriving megalopolis that is our city. Setting, props and lighting play backup roles to the lead actors coming from the kitchen. Usual suspects on the menu along with some creative wraps. The kitchen itself is a marvel in diminution. Essentially a studio-apartment sized kitchen (I.e, the size of a kitchen inside a studio apartment!), this meager square footage consistently bangs out completed dishes for a packed restaurant. When weather is good, there are four additional four-tops outdoors so it can get weeded here. Service is swift - partly due to how compact everything is. Guests walk in to effectively the drinks station, pass the counter and three tables in the process - and "arrive" in the main body of the dining area. All tables are essentially two-tops repurposed as 4,5 and even six tops. (I have sat with five others at one of the two tables beneath the great mural). Jenny's is one of my favorite breakfast spots (I'll wager I've been here over 100 times - and not once for lunch). You could get most of the menu items anywhere else (most, not all) but it wouldn't be the same. There's something prosaic, if not poetic, in being at the corner of Magnolia & Tennessee with coffee, The Democrat, rye toast, and a spinach/mushroom omelette that just does it for me time and again. read more

Yum. Breakfast at the Lunchbox is legit. Their pancakes are amazingly fluffy, with a perfect hint of sweetness in the batter. I also like their french toast and their sausage patties, which are cooked to perfection. They also serve lunch menu items at breakfast time, for those weirdos in my family that enjoy eating a hamburger and drinking Diet Coke at 8:30am. Parking can be competitive - get there early, or be prepared to wait/stalk the lot! read more

We had a great experience here, we sat outside because it was a beautiful day. It was a seat yourself kind of deal and there were left over plates on the table but I think it's because we snagged the table right away. We got water and coffee to drink. The coffee was Lucky Goat so it was great. We ordered our food and waited a bit longer than what would be preferred but it's a really small kitchen. Expect to wait 20 - 25 minutes for your food. The portion sizes are really good especially for the price. I ate the meat lovers omelet with hash browns and toast. The omelet was excellent. There was lots of meat but it wasn't greasy at all. Great portion of hash browns as well. Very filling meal. My fiancé ate the pancake plate with 2 buttermilk pancakes, eggs, bacon, and home fries. She loved her meal, said her pancakes "remind me of my mom's pancakes!" Their home fries were perfectly seasoned and cooked although the bacon was a bit hard. Overall, excellent choice. This is one of my absolute favorite places for a quick bite, it's referred to as a hole in the wall, which are often hidden gems. My favorite is the chicken fried steak or the good ole fashion corned beef and grits! I've tried about everything on the menu and never been disappointed. It's very small but worth the wait. Sadly, except for our very sweet server, this place is not good. We make a point of seeking out local mom & pop restaurants because usually they are the best. Our daughter had eaten here before & suggested it, but this was beyond poor. We ordered three breakfast specials, biscuits & gravy, an extra side of cheese grits, and a short stack of blueberry pancakes. The pancakes arrived first - one big and one small - half burnt. Asked for butter - was brought margarine - yuck! Then only 2 of our 3 specials arrived - eggs, toast, sausage & cheese grits shouldn't have been too difficult. Everyone was finished eating by the time the last meal arrived - cold eggs, cold toast and was told that they were out of cheese grits and was served plain grits with a slice of American cheese layered with more grits. Um....No. The extra order of cheese grits never arrived. Ordered home fries instead - these finally arrived hot but were clearly fried, frozen potatoes. Our server was apologetic explaining that the regular cook was on vacation this week. Clearly, the replacement is a pathetic substitute. So, since the last breakfast was inedible, it was taken off the bill. Steer clear of this place as it does not take much pride in providing fresh or quality food. Wouldn't go out of my way here. Really is okay and about what you would expect from the humble decor and "greasy spoon" charm from the outside. I really wanted to love this place but its obvious to me that certain items are better then others. Didn't enjoy the microwaved biscuit stay away from the hash brown as well. If they had cooked the hash browns with a little rosemary it would of gone a long way. That being said the eggs were cooked perfectly. I will go again and try other items and hopefully have better things to say! read more

I visited Jenny's lunchbox when I was in Tallahassee for graduation. There was garbage all around the building including overflowing at the dumpster. I should have turned around then...I have food allergies and the waitress refused to check whether or not one item had wheat in it and would not get the manager when I requested to speak to them. We liked the collection of lunch boxes around the tables, but finding parking was a hassle. We went for a quick lunch and were lucky to get a decent table. I would categorize this place as pretty basic in terms of the menu but they do it well. We popped in for a quick breakfast before church after coming down for graduation. It was recommended by our hotel staff. We were in and out in under 45 minutes. I ordered the pancakes and they were delicious! Definitely NOT from a box or mix. My eggs were fine and they even had veggie sausage, which I never tried before, but it was a decent meat substitute. After living in Tallahassee all of my life, I just recently went here. Everything was delicious! You can also eat so much food for little money, which is always great on a college student budget. I have never seen this place not busy and now I know why. Inside things are a little crowded but that adds to the home-like feel I think. The staff here are so incredible and hardworking! I ordered their breakfast special with came with literally so much food that I could not finish it all and only cost me about $10. The only thing that is not great about this place is the parking because there are such limited spaces. I am definitely coming back and want to try out the lunch options because I know those are going to be just as good. read more

My friends and I come here all of the time. We love the cheap breakfast food which keeps both our stomachs and wallets full. Window seats are great, I would recommend sitting there. I would absolutely not recommend sitting in the back in the little cramped room that is always sticky and has lingering air that makes you claustrophobic. read more

Darn. I should have checked the reviews on Yelp before I went to Jennys. So, here is how it went down: The place was packed when we got there on Sunday 9/19. We were greeted right-away and told "sit anywhere". The ONLY table we could find was in the back; despite that the other 2 tables next to us were checked y their waitresses 3-4 times in the 10-15 minutes it took the waitress that greeted us to realize no one had checked on us. When she took the order she did not explain anything, no specials, etc. Both of us spent $20 on 2 plates of your basic breakfast foods: eggs, bacon, french toast, gritz, bread, coffee. Not to mention that else were for that kind of money your plate is heaping with food, not here. Nothing extra-ordinary except for the lack of service. read more

Like another reviewer said--I wanted to like this place. I thought I found a good find on the cheap (was up there 2 weeks ago to move my boys into FSU). Somewhat cute and retro and glad we got a seat without a wait. I don't do the pork, bacon, and sausage thing, so maybe it's just not the right place for me. but when I started seeing lots of little ants on the wall, things went south. our table butted against the wall so they were on the table too. and then I realized the walls were dirty and stained, and then noticed the carpet was real dingy. None of us finished our meals, which wasn't a good sign. after I was turned off from my grits, which weren't cooked right (unless you like lots of hard lumps of unmixed stuff) I tasted my son's pancake. not sure if they were heated up from the freezer or just a real cheap mix, but didn't take a second bite. I guess if you're not a germophobe and need a cheap place to eat something, it works. but when the bathroom is outside (because it's an old gas station) and next to the ice machine that isn't kept locked, it doesn't work for me. I think it's a dive and just pray the kitchen is clean. They get one star because the servers were nice and attentive. A few bucks more will buy you a world of difference at The Egg on Capital Circle. read more
