Since I last wrote my last review the Marketplace seems to be stricter about enforcing a mask policy. Almost everyone is wearing a mask in their store now. Several times when I went they had an employee by the front door making sure that people who were coming in were wearing masks. Also since I had such a negative experience with the mask situation at their store before, I tried out them for delivery. And I must say their deliveries are awesome. It's so easy and convenient. Ordering online is super simple. They deliver right to your door. If you have any issues with your order, they are very cooperative in fixing it. Delivery is a great option to use with them if you don't want to go to the store. read more

Jewish/Kosher Supermarket Date and time of incident: 09/19/2023 3:45 pm -400 pm. Department: Bakery. Bakery staff: Hispanic Customer: Black I walked up to the bakery counter, with 4 employees there. I just stood there with my undivided attention focused on them for 3 to 5 minutes. They looked at me, looked away, talked to each other, laughed... When the one who was supposed ask to help decided to say something, he stayed at a distance and murmured, "do you need something?" I replied, "you think I'm just standing here..." He quickly looked away. So I followed up and asked, "so you're not gonna help me?" The 1st employee I spoke with told me I was right, and he understood me and told me to talk to the manager at customer service. So I made my way there and spoke with Shlomer from Customer Service. He was more interested in downplaying the encounter. read more

I witnessed the fish section staff relabeling fresh salmon with newly printed labels, showing a different package date on it. I doubt they did this without management telling them to. My guess is that at stop & shop as well as other larger chains would never try to deceive their customers like that. read more

Pretty good market. A lot of kosher and non-kosher options. Don't ever have to wait too long on line at the checkout. Store can be gross sometimes- it looks dirty sometimes, but 9 times out of 10 it's a good experience. read more

I don't even know where to begin because I still can't quite process what I experienced. I was visiting a friend who lives nearby and needed to pick up some vegetables. As I was walking toward the store, I was stopped in my tracks by an overwhelming stench. I honestly couldn't even identify it at first. But the smell was so bad it made my eyes water and I had to stop walking to dry heave a couple of times.NO EXAGGERATION! In front of the Market Place, I was greeted by the most disgusting sight I've ever seen in my over 40 years as a native New Yorker: In the middle of the hot NYC sizzling afternoon, I am looking at garbage cans Full of rotten, pink, dripping, stringy meat coming out of the bowels of the market place and being lifted into the back of a dump truck. Think I'm exaggerating??Look at the photos of stringy pieces of rotting meat and meat juice pouring into the dump truck. I honestly thought maybe they were filming a movie?? Or a show like Stranger Things? Is the market actually a film studio?? But NOPES! No production crew here. Just trucks of raw unidentifiable meat. The smell was so putrid it's how I imagine zombie farts smell after eating beans mixed with rotting flesh. Then bottle that stench and..VOILA! Thats what was wafting down the sidewalk from the market on this sweltering nyc day. Just as bad they had boxes, upon boxes of food stacked on the sidewalk in the sweltering sun. How is this OK? I don't know how this place doesn't get in trouble with the Dept of Health? Needless to say, I turned right around and will never buy anything from that store. I'd rather not risk my gastrointestinal health. AVOID!! read more

There is no enforcement of the mask wearing policy despite all the posters on the door. Woman without a mask got in my face when I asked her to step back 6 feet. Most of the shoppers and employees are not wearing them, including food preparers. I'm not going back. I don't feel safe there. read more

I will not shop here anymore based on the lack of compliance with covid protocols. This place is not managed well, and clearly does not have any regard for the safety and well being of their staff or customers. Every week it seems to get worse and worse. I was so uncomfortable with the amount of customers and staff unmasked today that I walked out immediately. Not only are the masks an issue, but they have self serve food such as donuts for people to just touch and pick up as they please. Not safe right now. I cannot support this business anymore, which is a shame as it is my neighborhood grocery and I normally go once a week. read more

Unfortunately I can no longer go to The Marketplace due to their lack of compliance when it comes to COVID. It was not only the rude, selfish customers that take off their masks while shopping or talking on their phones but the checkout personnel that don't wear a mask or do not wear it correctly with their nose exposed. My children forbid me from shopping there but I went twice anyway. It's very sad that I cannot have the kosher products available to me because of it. I would love to have my groceries delivered but even though they advertise that they go many places they will not deliver to my neighborhood of Bed Stuy just 2 miles away. In fact, they probably pass my street as they head to Williamsburg. read more

This place is fantastic! I tend to buy my staple items from Trader Joe's or even the Family Dollar around the corner, because their prices can be just a little bit higher than normal, but I am consistently blown away by the amazing service and great quality this store provides. I don't keep kosher, but I am vegetarian, so this place is a great stop to pick up vegetarian items. The produce section is phenomenal, and the man who runs it is proud of it! Everyone I have encountered in this store, from the staff to members of the local Jewish community, has been incredibly friendly and outgoing. I can't recommend this place highly enough! read more

Just discovered this place randomly. It's a bit of a hassle to get to from my apartment, I've got 3 grocery stores within a block of me and it's a 15 minute drive to get to the market place...despite all of that I plan to go back there on a weekly basis. As others have said, they have great looking and reasonably priced produce, amazing baked goods, and some terrific prepared specialty Jewish food. I picked up pre-made dinner for me and my wife and it was on par with our favorite Israeli restaurant. One weird thing, they seem to have given us someone else's groceries as well...got two mysterious packages of cheese and a container of hummus in our grocery bag. We didn't get charged for it, so I imagine someone else lost some food.. read more

We all know how hard shopping for food can be in Brooklyn. Whether it is hopping several stores or neighborhoods to get the right items at a decent quality or going to the closest dirty shop with no room to walk. Fortunately for Crown Heights we have one of the best places in Brooklyn to go. The place is clean, and every one that works there is very helpful and friendly... But lets talk about why I really loved it. The isle at The Market Place are comfortably wide so no more trying to stand while waiting for others to give you angry glares just for being nice and waiting for them to move on with selecting their food. The food selection is fantastic! The selection of meats is clean, fresh, but most of all quality and deliciousness. Produce is flawless and perfect way to invite your thoughts on meal preparation just as you walk in; (I like to shop what is fresh and looks good not from a plan or recipe). And the frozen and other foods like cheese and snacks are perfect and not something I would be afraid to share with people. If you live in Crown Heights this is the place to go in my opinion. read more

Great place for all your kosher grocery shopping needs. Large selection of fresh produce, a fresh deli/takeout, beer etc etc the best kosher supermarket in the Crown Heights/Park Slop area. Service is quick and friendly. They are always well stocked. Prices are on par with most kosher places (a little higher than your average supermarket), but that's expected as every single solitary item is certified kosher, and that certification, which is a luxury, comes with some added cost. read more

Double check all of your purchases that are perishable, do not trust the labels in the store. The food they sell goes bad or becomes moldy suspiciously quickly. Unless you intend to eat the food you intend to purchase immediately, consider buying it elsewhere. read more

Blatant COVID non-compliance. 80% wore their mask under their nose or on their chin, 10% did not wear one at all, the other 10% wore them properly. They clearly do not care for their employees or their customers. read more

I received recommendation from a friend to order catering from here for my son's birthday party. I have to say that I am very impressed. The chef/manager really went above and beyond to make sure I received everything I asked for. The salads and wraps were very fresh and delicious. There were three different types of wraps - avocado, tuna and egg. There were about 15 different salads, each one tasting better than the last! The presentation of the food was on point and very professionally made. All of the attendees at the party asked where I ordered from. I will definitely be using them again for the next party and for Shabbat dinners. Great service, amazing food. Can't go wrong with this place! read more

This place is really set up nicely, you can see that they clearly invested time money and thought into making this supermarket looks and feels amazing, they have a large selection of good quality fruits and veggies, and also have a nice deli and bakery. Isles are neat and contain a lot of goods, this is a one stop shop where you can find anything from meat produce dairy baked goods sushi ect One thing though they are pretty pricey! read more

This my one-stop shop for everything on Shabbos! The convenience cannot be underestimated. The prepared foods and salatim are amazing- I've never tried anything I didn't like! It can be a bit pricy, but it's worth it. For household items like sponges, cleaning materials, and foil it's pretty reasonable. I could not live without The Market Place! read more

Great selection, especially their vegetable department which is excellent. The downside is it is slightly pricey and the cashiers are not very polite. But still a gem in the neighborhood! Update: Over the past 2 months I have had several incidents where I have gotten unsolicited sexual comments about my body by some of the male staff. Mask issue. There were about eleven employees this morning not wearing their masks. Some had them on their ears and down below their chins, others had no masks at all. Very disappointing as I think this is a great grocery, but truly nervous to continue shopping here. I understand it's not comfortable to be in a mask all day, but if the store's policy is "no mask no entry", which I appreciate, why isn't the staff abiding by these same rules? read more

This place is cleaner than the co-owned Empire Kosher and has a decent takeout. Their Shabbes salads are good. However, their service is absolutely LOUSY. The people working there are nasty, pushing their storage carts intentionally into you, while not letting you pass through the isles until they fill up the isle with their fruits and vegetables - all seem to be muttering under their breath. If you expect politeness and gratefulness that you are shopping there, you've come to the wrong store. The checkout cashiers have ZERO idea how to use their checkout equipment, and more often then not, they get stuck and woe is to the person that has to wait online when a checkout person get's stuck. The staff wouldn't move you to another line, you just have to wait a long time. One particular new cashier, a big red haired guy with a bushy beard wouldn't take my 3/4 empty cart when he opened the cash register and signaled to someone to go ahead of me, claiming I had "too much stuff" in my cart. So I had to wait behind a broken cashier. When I questioned him why he allowed others with MORE items than me through, and told me to wait on the other line, he ignored me. In disgust, I just left my cart there, and swore off going back, even though I live close by. Bottom line - DON'T SHOP AT THE MARKETPLACE if you expect customer service and appreciation. read more

The manager of the takeout section was very friendly and went above and beyond to help me selecting through the array of options. I've come back again and again for the fresh hummus (seriously, better than any of those from the big brands), babaganoush, and Moroccan carrot and beet salads. Worst customer service on the planet. They leave things on the shelf long after they expire. When confronted, they give you the run around instead of apologizing. No immediate refund and continue to leave the stuff on the shelf even after you point out to them that their "fresh" baked goods were baked weeks ago. Disgusting business practices. read more

As a gentile, I love the prospect of new things to try as they carry a lot of kosher/imported items not found at other grocery stores but the Fri/Sat hours are something to get used to. read more

I am in my late 60s and after cancer. Believe it or not, Covid is not yet over. I know that people seem to find this hard to believe, but I personally know people who are still getting sick now with Covid in Crown Heights. When I went into the store, the manager was not wearing a mask. 85% of the customers were not wearing masks. Only 2 of the cashiers were wearing masks, and another one had their mask down by their chin. I was in an aisle and a young girl came right next to me practically breathing on me, I asked her very politely to please step back or put on her mask. She responded to me with great chutzpah. This is the only supermarket I can go to. I cannot buy $100 worth of groceries each time so I can qualify for delivery. It is New York City LAW that management, staff, and customers must wear masks inside. I asked the manager to make an announcement, he never did. Where shall I go to buy groceries? I am almost ready to go to Manhattan once a week to buy groceries, because I feel safer there, and I live a few doors away from the Marketplace supermarket. This is insane. Plus illegal. PLEASE do something. People will start complaining to the city about you. read more

I would come here in 2014 when I worked in the area. The prepared foods were ok. They had a very good chulent and yapchik, potato kugel with chunks of tender meat. The honey mustard corned beef was really good, too, and they had a decent bakery. The cashiers left much to be desired in many ways, though, and the staff could be perfunctory at times, but looking at the demographics they're dealing with, this is understandable. Definitely the nicest and largest kosher market in the Crown Heights area. read more

Love this market. Super convenient if you live within a couple blocks. Slightly pricier than other grocery stores in the neighborhood. Love the bakery within the market. Doesn't necessarily cater to the diversity in the neighborhood but the produce is amazing. Wish they would have more concise hours of operation for those of us who don't observe Shabbat. read more
