We eat here all the time, for both breakfast or lunch. By far my favorite place in SLO county. The owners are incredibly friendly and instantly make you feel like part of their family. I will start by saying the food here is good. We got the chicken fried steak because I've been craving it all week long and I heard good things about the food. However, we won't be back because the experience was pretty bad. We arrived at 10 on a Sunday and were sat in like 10 mins but or orders weren't taken for like 20 min and our food did not arrive until 1135. No one checked on us or even really looked at us. Two tables were sat, fed and paid by the time our food arrived. I was disappointed about my experience here recently. I used to love this place and recommended it as a favorite breakfast place. The wait for the food was almost 2 hrs which was not worth the wait at all and the food was cold. I understand they might be understaffed and are trying their best but I don't think they shouldn't take extra customers if they can't even handle the current customers they are serving. My sandwich was dry no flavor hardly. The burrito my boyfriend got was ok the meat needed more seasoning the fries were good and the portion of onion rings was small. If they are having people wait so long they should have at least some biscuits or muffins to offer on the tables that might help. I saw a large party and other group of people leave and not wait for their food due to the long wait. I will give 2 stars cause my boyfriend and I liked the coffee, we got a nice place to sit outside, the fries were ok and the large mason jars with ice cold water was good and I know the staff was trying. I also know the wait could be due to making the food fresh and cooked to order but still the wait was long and not worth that long of a wait, I just think others should know ahead of time that there is a long wait here. read more

Solid 3.5 stars! If you want cheap, affordable breakfast food with fairly large portions, try the Mayor's place! I was staying in Santa Maria and my family were craving some affordable breakfast food. The place is definitely small although they offer larger tables out on their patio. Most tables indoors were meant for smaller groups of 4 or less. The outdoor patio isn't a bad place to sit either, but dress appropriately! Notable dishes were the fried steak burrito, the french toast and the tuna melt. Family overall enjoyed the food here with not many compliants. Their potato hash browns were fresh and very delicious. The tuna melt was toasted to perfection although their choice of cheese on the melt could have been better. The fried steak burrito was drenched in their gravy sauce and had eggs and cheese inside. Not a bad meal if you are starving, except I thought their eggs were kinda bland. Their other standard meals were pretty decent. Not the most amazing breakfast joint I've been to, but their affordability and portions will make me come back. read more

Food's eh. Service pretty damn good. It's what made me put the four stars. I ordered the country fried steak and eggs. I wasn't a fan, but it did its job. I wished the gravy had more flavor and the country fried wasn't as soggy, but that's me being picky. I liked the service. It seemed the server and busboy were a couple and they hung out with me and my family talking about the area and complimenting my dog, Mochi, who was sitting at the patio area. We had such a delicious Sunday breakfast at The Mayor's Place in Nipomo! It is a quaint little family run restaurant with a goal of serving yummy home cooked meals. You have to understand that it's a tiny little kitchen so if you are in a hurry, you might not be happy. We were prepared for a nice relaxing sit so the wait didn't bother us at all. Especially when our breakfast did arrive! The hash browns I ordered were perfect. And the bacon was nice and crispy like I asked (but not burnt!). My eggs were just like I try to make them at home. And their pancakes were so yummy that I didn't even use syrup. So pop on in and sit awhile. Maybe visit with the person or people you are siting with or near and enjoy life. On November 30, 2019, four of us went for "lunch." The Klondike Gold was loved. The hashbrowns were prepared crispy as requested, the over easy egg preparation was perfect, and the pancakes delicious. The Porky Pig omelette was flavorful (Lisa, ham, bacon, sausage and cheese...) and filling to say the least. The hashbrowns perfectly crispy as requested and the pancakes were delicious. The (mushroom) burger was nothing special however the mushrooms were obviously freshly grilled right there and they were delicious. I would definitely pass/not order the onion rings next time. Had a great experience! The outside decor is fun! And the inside decor's punny signs add so much pizazz and character. Our server kept referring to her mom when we had questions about the special and customer's favorites. So I was super glad to support this family business. I love the different selections and combination possibilities on the menu! And the prices are great for what you get. Everyone inside was super friendly (I assume it was the owner, and his children). Inside is small, but cozy and cute. There's plenty of parking outside on the property, and on the street. My Santa Fe turkey sandwich was yummy!! Extra buttery sourdough bread, with a cheesy turkey and green chiles filling. A tad bit too salty for my taste, but still enjoyed it and would order again. I chose onion rings as my side but they were soggy by the time I got home to eat them. Garlic chicken sausage breakfast was good! Sausages were juicy, well seasoned, and had a nice kick to it. Came with 2 eggs, and my choices of a cup of cottage cheese and a whole grain toast. Chicken and tri-tip dinner was delicious. Both the chicken and tri-tip had a great flavor, and were cooked perfectly. High-Protein Low-Fat breakfast is a genius option to include in the menu. The 4oz chicken breast tasted great, loved the flavor, but it was quite dry. They make the eggs any way you want, and they cook them properly! Been there a few times for breakfast as the breakfast burritos are delicious. Last time there, the service was slow. Tried again today and calling it slow is an understatement. 45 minutes after ordering, the table that ordered before us hasn't gotten their food. We asked the waiter and were told the other table would be served first and the kitchen was working on it. Don't think any food had come out of the kitchen in at least 30 minutes. At the hour mark we finished our coffee and told them to cancel our order. Was just taking too long. Would have been nice if they comped us the two cups of coffee, but no, handed us a $6 bill. COGS on coffee is nothing and you just pissed off a repeat customer. Ended up going to Cow Girl Cafe and got excellent food with quick service. Will not give the mayor another chance. Came here this past weekend with friends, sat on their porch, and other tables did seem like they 6ft.apart! Which I appreciated. I ordered an omelette that comes with 2 sides, I chose hash browns and biscuits with gravy. The omelette was too well done, but still had a good taste. I really liked the hash browns and coffee. It's all about who you know. I've eaten here before. It's good. Not great. This last time, it seemed that when they ask you to wait to be seated outside, what they really mean is, "grab any table the second it clears and we will clean it around you." Otherwise, those in the know, just walk right by you, seat themselves, and get served. The waiter in back, who saw us waiting, and the front counter person, did noting to stop this. Twice. Prices have gone up. $4 for a cup of coffee at a diner? $4.50 for a little kids hot chocolate? We were seated within about 10m. We placed our order, we had our children with us. We waited an hour and a half...after we ordered...to leave. They only had one cook, I get it that's alot of people for one cook. This should have been communicated to us. Something like "we're happy to seat you, the wait for food though is almost 2 hours" - but I'm sure anyone would leave if they heard that. :/ We told them we were leaving and instead of apologizing and trying to make up for it with some good customer service, they charged us for our drinks and shrugged when we were surprised. Unfortunately, we will not be back. We understand being short staffed. Tell your customers how long the wait is, so we can decide for ourselves if we are able to stay and wait. If they had tried to make up for it with customer service, we'd understand and try them again another time. But we aren't going back and we live so close it' such a shame. read more

You can't always judge a book by its cover. First glance, no thanks. Exterior is a mix of whack-a-doodle and an episode of Hoarders. But the food is tasty, it's served quickly, and by friendly folks. Business associate wanted a lunch stop halfway between Santa Maria and AG. I'd heard about The Mayors Place for years, so I suggested we meet there. Quick online glance at the menu was encouraging (although prices online are out-of-date by a couple of bucks). Very small. Maybe 6-8 tables and 5-6 stools at a counter. Homey and down home. We each had tri-tip sandwiches. Tender. Tasty. Thick cut. The coleslaw is creamy and on the sweet side. The bun was toasted. The soup was Chicken /Rice and was excellent (no salt needed). I saw another diner's breakfast and it looked awesome. I'm going to make it back down and try their breakfast, soon. read more
