The Naam is a vegetarian institution so it was about time I tried it! We arrived early on a Saturday night in the hopes of avoiding a wait. We entered the restaurant and waited...and waited...just for an acknowledgement or a welcome. After about 10 minutes, one of the staff greeted us and seated is right away. So that was not a good start. The menu is extensive and lots of choice for veggies and vegans. I went with the classic Naam burger, adding sautéed mushrooms and onions. The platter comes with oven baked fries and salad. The portion was massive; the plate overflowing. The fries and burger were mediocre in terms of flavour. I like my fries crispy and these were not. For dessert I tried the Apple crumble, according to the menu: a classic. It was a'right. I LOVE dessert and I didn't finish this one. So you know, overall, meh. Update: after visiting for a second time I realized that I definitely got the staff on an off day. Food was delicious again, the bathrooms were clean and in working order, and the waiters were on top of their shit. Brunch was delicious! And the house coffee is good as well. The wait staff seemed to be pretty scattered and our waiter specifically was quite smelly-but nice. The bathroom was horrifying and the toilets were nasty. I don't even like vegetables. But I like the Naam. If you are looking for natural, fresh, innovative and creative veggie dishes, this place is perfect. The best: it's 24 hours, only closed on Christmas- so whenever you're hungry and want a creative and healthier option, the Naam is there for you! The servers tend to space out a bit- maybe it's part of their down-to-earth style, or maybe it's the fact it's 4am on a Wednesday. Vegetarian dreamland. I ordered enchiladas, and, even though I'm from Texas and expected something completely different, I was blown away. The salad dressing was absurdly good - creamy cilantro? Yes please! My friends and I shared dishes and the diversity of flavor was really impressive - a lot of veggie places tend to use similar ingredients in everything, but the Naam's dishes appear to be well-thought-out and are consistently amazing. Service is not in a rush, so come here with a group when you can take your time. There are a few duds on the menu, so start with the cashew and avocado enchilada or the golden dragon bowl with daiya cheese. Mix the grated beet and carrot into the sauce and you'll love it. If you are looking for authentic Indian, Thai, or Asian cuisine there are plenty of other restaurants to choose from. This is hippie food not authentic exotic food. I love both. I don't really see why anyone would hold the inauthenticity against the Naam but personally I appreciate that the menu has been consistent for so long. Love this place. Came here on my birthday and it was so lovely. I turned 15 so I got a 15% discount on my main. Atmosphere is great, servers are so friendly. I got two desserts, a vegan carrot raisin chocolate cake, and a vegan blueberry pie. I was blown away by the warm blueberry pie. I went to the Naam last night and realized, holy catz, I've been coming here for 26 years! This place has been around for 87 years!!!!! And very little has changed. I love the food! Fresh and copious. Their menu is extensive and everything on it is good. It's still one of my favourite places to eat. On the weekends they have live music which may or may not suit your taste. Usually a single performer. I find that the space is a little small for this and when an artist is playing it can be hard to converse with your dinner mate. But big ups for supporting local artists! The only downside is if you go at a peak time (say 7pm on a Friday or Saturday night or brunch on the weekend) you're going to have a wait. We waited (happily) for more than half an hour to get in last night. Once in it can take a while to get your food because great food takes time to prepare. So if you're impatient this is NOT the place to go. All in all, as long as the Naam is standing, I will continue to enjoy my visits and the great food! read more

So I came here because a friend told me vegetarian food can be very tasty. Let's just put it this way, the frozen veggie burger patties you can buy at the grocery store is by far better than the burgers at the naam. The Maui Maui burger was a dried out, flavourless, disappointing mess. And to top it off, the customer service was virtually non existent. I most definitely did not mind leaving no tip. Don't get the carrot cake on Sunday! Normally we really enjoy naam's carrot cake, I fact we've even recommended it. But tonight was a different story. I have been to the Naam probably over 20 times. It is a cute place that's great for vegan/ vegetarians. Lately I've been disappointed though. The Naam has always been a little disorganized but have many kind people working here. Our server was familiar with the menu, but it look a very long time for him to greet us and many tables around us seemed frustrated as well. He seemed overwhelmed but it was not busy in the restaurant. Our dessert was forgotten about until we mentioned it and it came overall 20+ mins after we ordered it. We wanted to come in for a quick bite but we ended up spending 1.5 hours here just waiting for service/food. Too bad to see the service going downhill because the food is always great. read more

It's very loud and quite cramped, but the food portions are so generous that everybody takes a to-go box home. The Naam achieves granola curnchiness without being all pissy and pretentious. Not too hippy to scare off those of us who aren't vegan. Service is always swift, friendly and avoids being obnoxious as so many vegetarian places can seem. Portions are riduculously huge as is the menu with a vast array of options. The room itself is small and cozy but set up in a way that leaves each table with enough room so that you don't feel as though you're dining with the neighbouring tables. I am a serious meat eater but The Naam today had me so satisfied it made me question my love of meat. I went in the afternoon with my boyfriend. There was a bit of a wait as the place was packed, but it wasn't long before we got a cozy little booth in the back corner. Our server was friendly, prompt, cool and calm during this very busy time. I had the Gold Dragon bowl, my boyfriend ordered the Maui Maui burger. The burger was delicious and nutty without being overwhelmingly earthy. My gold dragon bowl was like the most epic poutine ever. Sesame potatoes with cheese, savory miso gravy, carrots, grated beets, sprouts and a ton of other vegetables. The portion was so huge I was able to take a lot of it home for a midnight snack. We finished off our meal with the hot apple crisp with vanilla ice cream! The best apple crisp I have ever had the pleasure of eating. All in all this place is definitely worth checking out. There are so many vegetarian/vegan options its hard to choose just one thing! I'll be back again to try a milkshake, and breakfast sometime in the near future. read more

There aren't many places in Vancouver that have been around for more than 25 years. There are almost no places here that have been around for over 50. The Naam is one of my favorite spots in the whole city. Not only for their really delicious food (I'm not a vegetarian and I still love just about everything on the menu), but also because it has such a history to it. Plus the miso gravy and home fries are so good my mouth is watering just thinking about them. The service can be iffy and there's almost always a long wait for a table. But the food and the feeling of years and years of history there, make it a really special place in a city that doesn't have very many special places left. read more

The Naam is great. They have great vegetarian food and even if you're a meat lover you will enjoy their food. The portions are huge and you will never leave hungry. We always end up with doggy bags from there - great leftovers. We ordered the cashew & avocado enchiladas along with the Thai noodles. I think the enchilada was the highlight of the meal, but we loved both. For dessert we split the pie and blueberry milkshake made with soy milk - absolutely delicious. First review I have written. I had to write it. I used to love the Naam. The ambience, the funkiness. And although I always thought the service was slow, and the food was so so (but I do like the croissant melt with their guacamole, and the stuffed chapati), the atmosphere kind of made up for it, and I could overlook the shortcomings. Until now! The other night, my girlfriend and I went in there around 11pm. The place was maybe 1/4 full. We were served water after quite a long wait, and then just sat there forever to have our orders taken. We called out to this short chubby scruffy looking guy with glasses, who was wiping the table nearby, and at first he completely ignored us! We asked again, and after some eye-rolling, and incredible rudeness, he mumbled that our server will be there, which didn't happen. After another 10 minutes, we just left the water on the table, and got up to leave (I don't think I have ever done that before). Then he mumbles again " I told you the server will be there soon", looking really annoyed. I just couldn't believe how rude the guy was. How can you get away with such poooooor service? I finally got to eat at this famous Vancouver institution, for the first and last time. For the low prices, the food was ok. Lots of vegan-izable options. But the service was a joke. Our server brought us 2 of the 3 courses we ordered (we were sharing) and never came back. After sitting with emptied plates in front of us for 15 minutes while he twiddled his thumbs at the front counter, we finally went to pay. He actually gave us attitude for not telling him he forgot a dish, when he never came to check on us anyway. Mediocre food and unbelievably rude service. I was hoping it would surpass its reputation but it did not. I'll take Bandidas, Heirloom, or Wallflower any day. read more
