My husband and I ate here tonight for the first time. We started with the deviled eggs which were delicious...perfectly cooked eggs. I had the Blackfin tuna while my husband had the porkchops. It was good. I would say there are a few similarly priced restaurants downtown that are just as good if not better. But I have to give them props for having an evolving menu. I tried two small plates and an appetizer and both were good but nothing really jumped out at me. I've had better deviled eggs. the bacon was cut too thick and so chewy when it should have been crispy. deviled eggs seem to be popular now and since everyone makes them at home they really need to stand out in a restaurant The dessert was probably my favorite part of the meal and I had what was basically a blueberry bread pudding. but I think the owners and chefs are trying something really different and they doing a good job. It was reasonably priced as well: had a drink, an app, two small plates and dessert for 50 bucks. I'll go back. read more

Noble South takes Southern Cuisine to a level where its never been before. I work downtown and this is my absolute favorite lunch spot. You can close your eyes and put your finger anywhere on the menu, and you'll love it. The vegetables are all local, fresh and unique in their preparation. The atmosphere is very upscale but casual. Possibly the best restaurant in Mobile. I have been to the Noble South roughly 10 times and have been impressed every time. Ingredients are locally sourced and always fresh. Menu changes periodically, which keeps things interesting, but a few of their staples remain each time. They prioritize quality over quantity, but I find the portions to be very reasonable, sometimes even on the large side at lunch. I would absolutely reccomend trying the Noble South if you have not already done so. read more

What a find. The space is dramatic, with a great combination of modern design and preservation of historical elements. You might think from the metal chairs that it was more casual cooking, but the quality of the food was first-rate. Their combination of contemporary cooking inspired by southern traditions totally works. The kale salad was the first one my wife and I have ever enjoyed, and the server suggested a great wine pairing. I had the beef cheek and my wife had the shrimp and grits, both of which were great. The parsnips and the turnips with the been cheeks were crunchy and full of flavor. The pecan tart was very good as well. The prices are quite reasonable for the quality of the food. Great Brunch. Went for our first Sunday Brunch at Noble South - we were not disappointed. Their brunch is as good or better than their lunch or dinners. I had steak and eggs - it was excellent. Head and shoulders above any I have had. I love the portion size and the amount of seasoning - just right - not too much like many other Mobile restaurants. We were disappointed that they ran out of chicken and waffles - had looked forward to that. I will definitely go back and try to get there earlier so they do not run out! read more

We had high hopes for our lunch experience here but were sorely disappointed. I ordered the BLT which had Greek Goddess dressing. With the first bite, I noticed that both sides of the bread were DRENCHED with dressing. I told our server and she offered to have some of the dressing scraped off! I asked for light dressing on only one slice. She returned the sandwich a few minutes later in the exact same condition. I tried to pick around and eat some but ended up eating from someone at our table who got the pimento cheese sandwich with bacon and a fried egg. Gabby finally checked back in with us and seemed disappointed and offered to discount it or give us a free dessert. When the check came, she had given us her discount which amounted to $2!!! We were in a hurry to get back on the road so we didn't pursue the matter but have a really bad taste in our mouths from this experience. If you are ever in or near Mobile do yourself a favor and stop in here. Had brunch and I am forever happy about it. The Sausage Ball were a delicious start, but when I tried the biscuits and gravy I was hooked. My friend ordered Croque Madame, my gf got the Chicken Biscuits, and I got sides bc I couldn't decide, lol. Croquet Madame was divine and the Chicken Biscuits was definitely better than anything else I have ever had with that name. For my sides I got over medium eggs, sausage, grits , and the hashbrown casserole. All were great but the hashbrown casserole was possibly the best thing I have ever eaten. The drinks were good. Gf and friend got mimosas and I got a bloody mary. Mimosas were great and the bloody mary was acceptable. Being a fan of grapefruit I decided to try a Pamplemousse, another amazing choice. I can't wait for a reason to come back to Mobile to try this place again. read more

Weary and disappointed by our delayed road trip due to a faulty uhaul truck it was amazing to be able to find a safe haven to nourish our bodies and shelter to escape the heat. I went there for a business dinner with a group from our medical practice. Three words for this place "DON'T GO HUNGRY!" I ordered the New York strip with green beans and potatoes. I was shocked to be served a very large plate with the following contents...5 band-aid sized slices of meat, 5 green beans and 2 potatoes the size of a ping pong ball.WHAT??? The meat was so tough it was like beef jerky and the server never came by to ask how anyone's meal was. Perhaps because she knew better. All this for a $30 price tag. Totally ridiculous! This place is a joke and made a very bad impression on a group of about 20. I went home and ate some leftover pizza. read more

If you try to eat here at lunch be sure you have plenty of time. Like most people in the downtown area we get one hour for lunch. We went there as a group of about 8 arriving at 11:30. We didn't get our checks to sign until after 1:00 so it took 1.5 hours for lunch. The service we received was horrible, it took forever for our food to come out and we had problems just getting our drinks re-filled. After we were finished it was a long time before we could get our checks to pay and then they were messed up and had to be done again. The manager seemed to be oblivious to the fact that we were there for so long and had to wait so long to pay. On top of that there was an automatic 20% tip added to our bills. I have to say that the food there is excellent so if you have adequate time to spend and don't mind extremely slow service then this would be a good choice. If you have an hour for lunch then you need to go somewhere else. read more

I had lunch there on a recent business trip to Mobile. It's a great location and had a nice atmosphere. The server was very good. I had the most amazing pork chops that I ever had in my life. For my sides I had butter beans which were awesome, turnips which were nothing to write home about and I ordered the cole slaw which was horrible. In spite of the terrible cole slaw Id go back again for those pork chops. Next time I'll stick with french fries and the butter beans. read more

This was my second time at noble south. While the service was great the food was mediocre. We ordered the smoked catfish dip to start which basically just tasted like smoke and the eggplant tapenade which tasted like straight garlic. We then shared the oxtail and marinated crab claws, both were pretty bland and left us unsatisfied. The atmosphere is sterile and cold, which could be fixed with some simple candles/lower lighting to warm the place up. Not the best. read more

This was our first visit to this restaurant although I have eaten their food at events that they catered. The restaurant is small, quiet and lends itself to a very relaxed dining experience with lots of room, and a simple pleasant décor. The menu changes daily but you can preview it on line. There are ample choices so that even not previewing the menu is acceptable. This is a very talented chef and the whole experience is memorable. The staff is remarkable. Diana B., our server was pleasant, professional and a true hostess. Each course of the meal is a delight. What happens is that we were all tasting each others choices because each selection is an experience and the presentation and flavors of all dishes are seriously good, from the shrimp and grits to the meat selections to the fish. They have what are called small plates but these are more than appetizers. The prices are amazingly reasonable for food of this caliber. The wine choices are good. What makes this place so unique is that is small, quiet, and has not only great food but a truly great staff. We will be back frequently as this is luxury leisurely dining and that is something that Mobile needs more restaurants to provide. We stopped in Mobile, AL as a quick stop for lunch on our way to New Orleans. We wandered around until we stumbled into this place. We decided to try it and left with no regrets. We ordered a chicken salad sandwich and a Kale salad. It was awesome. The Kale was the best we've ever eaten. It's a small hip place. We definitely will recommend it. read more

I had heard so many good things about this restaurant and had had a good meal there about three years ago, but I was sorely disappointed last night. The noise level was over the top, but the kind waitress moved us from a corner to a central location that was some better. Her service was great. The main reason we went was for rabbit (on the menu on their web site), but they did not offer it any longer. "Snacks" were not appealing,. The main course choices were three or four seafood items, wagu steak and pork (made with cucumbers and peanuts?) and served with polenta, quail with creamed corn and spring onion, and a vegetable plate. My husband's steak was very good but about 6 oz. of meat and a small number of potatoes. No salads or sides were offered. I had the quail, but asked for polenta instead of creamed corn. While the quail was quite good (all four bites of it), the polenta (which I thought, mistakenly was creamed corn by appearance) was awful. I am Italian and eat polenta often, and it resembled nothing familiar. It was the consistency of runny oatmeal with a bunch of corn thrown in. My last bite was to taste the spring onion. It was so strong that it was still lingering in my mouth hours later. I will say the presentation of our meals was nice, but we stopped for a burger on the way home. My wife and I decided to go with snacks and smalls so we could try a variety if dishes tapas style. We started with the deviled eggs which, as stated in an earlier review, were a bit too salty. We then had the pork rillette which was wonderful. It had a perfect balance of flavor, and the spicy peach chutney was an excellent compliment to the pork. We just needed more toast points. The Cuban Duo wasn't great, but not bad either. The sandwich was a little bit salty, and the black beans were overpowered by one spice. The tomato "ceviche" was refreshing and delicious. The shaved lime ice made the dish. The seafood sausage was ok, but I wouldn't order it again. Maybe just not our thing. The pickled slaw was nice though. The highlight of our meal was the oxtail with sweet potato gnocchi. It was delicious and the flavors well balanced. Would love to see it as a full meal on the menu. I guess I will have to order 2 next time. We had the banana pudding for desert which my wife really liked. The decor was fresh and clean. I liked the atmosphere even though the temperature was a bit on the warm side. Our server, Hunter, did an excellent job. I could not have asked for better service. read more

Wow! This place has a cool and trendy vibe. The building has been converted into a restaurant but you can tell it is a historic building. I was curious to know what it was before; the brick building with a wood accent interior makes for a fascinating ambiance. The food was perfectly portioned and each mouthful was delectable. I opted for the veggie plate and my husband had the meatloaf. His meat loaf was moist and spicy. My favorite thing (although it was all good) was the squash casserole. After a very hard and long week for my wife and me, we decided to try out Noble South. Entering the restaurant is the first wow of the night for us. They converted a two story building in to one and exposed all the character that many buildings in Mobile, AL has. We we sat at the bar while we waited for our table to be ready. The bartender was extremely nice and fixed two handcrafted drinks for us. Don't remember the names but the taste was suburb. We sat at our table towards the back of the restaurant with a great view looking towards the entrance. We started off dinner with a locally made pepper jelly and goat cheese mousse with toasted bread. The mouse/pepper jelly combination hit every tastebud imaginable. We had to send the bread back due to it being burnt but was quickly replaced with quality toasted bread. My wife had a cup of the soup of the day. It was a herbed chicken and rice soup filled with chunks of roasted chicken, vegetables and an extra kick of spice. Would like to have the recipe and a large bowl on a dreary/rainy mobile day. For the main course my wife had a soft shell crab blt which was a little bit misleading. She thought she was ordering a sandwich but it was brought out in a clever deconstructed form. The bacon was definitely house made. Perfectly fried crab but was a tad salty. Might would order this again. My main course was the braised beef cheek with broccoli stems, turnips, mushrooms, potatoes and a red wine sauce. The meat melted in my mouth it was so tender. I am not a broccoli fan but that didn't matter to me. It was one of the best dishes I've had in Mobile, AL. Although it was heavy handed with salt, I would order this again and again. We almost left without trying a dessert but decided if the main food was good then so would the dessert. We split the buttermilk pie with a bourbon caramel sauce. They were very stingy with the caramel sauce. Probably because they were eating it by the spoonful. They should make caramel candy out of it. The buttermilk pie had a great custard consistency and paired well with the caramel sauce...that was left on the plate. I want so badly to give a 5 but because of the heavy hand with the salt, I have to give this a 4+. Highly recommend. read more

Just happened to stop in here for a quick bite and ended up staying for hours! Delicious speciality drinks. The habanero vodka drink was not too spicy but had just the best kick to it. Oysters were fresh and big. Pepper jelly with sourdough toast was a MUST! Could even eat for dessert. Deviled eggs were the best I've ever had. The squash blossoms had the best Chipotle dip inside and were amazing! Great waitress named Frances who was very sweet and informative! Loved this place! read more

Rating isn't for the food, because I didn't even stay to eat here. I was treated like I was less important because I was dining alone. Even though there were tables open, the hostess asked if I would mind sitting at the bar. When I stated that I preferred a table, she asked if I could sit at the table near the door, implying that since I was dining alone I should sit at the least desirable table. At that point, I told her I would be dining elsewhere. I don't blame the hostess, as I'm sure she was following orders from management. It made me feel like management thinks the dining experience of solo diners is less important. I could have been a repeat customer, could have returned with dining companions, could have left the biggest tip of the day - but instead I will never be eating at this restaurant. Luckily I am accustomed to eating alone and so this experience was more irritating than embarrassing, but I can imagine that if someone less accustomed to eating alone were to go to this restaurant, they would have left humiliated. Nobel South is an amazing creative restaurant specializing in unique fine dining plates. The service is always kind and friendly. And if you want a fine cocktail, the side car lounge (it's Sister bar right next store) has some of the finest things that you can find in Mobile. Both in uniqueness and deliciousness. I usually go to the side car side because the bar tender, Randy, takes extra care in what he specializes in. Literally just look at his tools. They are amazing. And it pairs amazingly with the food. The food is served in four styles that break down to Apps, small plates, and traditional meal sizes. They change periodically but you can't go wrong with pepper jelly. It is always fantastic. If they have sizzling cobbler get it. And beef cheek is superb. The pairings are amazing! If you are looking for deliciousness, with a fine dining but affordable style, go to this wonderful restaurant!!! read more

This place is so cute! The staff was very nice and attentive. We had the deviled eggs as our appetizer, so good. My husband had the oyster pot pie and I had the pork cheek for our entrees, and both dishes were absolutely DELICIOUS! And we shared their banana pudding for dessert, also very good.
