The Nook is a convenient and small diner with an incredible selection of sweet items such as pancakes, crepes, French toast, etc. I arrived and enjoyed the friendly service and clean venue. My food was standard breakfast fare: simple and satisfactory. It is a bit more pricey than standard breakfast joints, and the steak could have used some more seasoning. It was tough too. I think this spot is great for a meet up or networking. read more

What happened to The Nook? Food quality went down hill! I ordered The Round Tripper. 2 eggs sunny side up, corn beef hash, French toast and 2 scrambled eggs on the side. I'll start off with the flavorless corn beef and hash that was dry and tasted like saw dust. The French toast was also super dry. no matter how much syrup i'd poor over it, it didnt help. The scrambled eggs were over cooked and super dry. only decent thing on that plate was the sunny side up eggs. My friend also had toasts which was overly toasted (almost burnt). I was told by my wife and friend not to say anything. Oh! on top of it all, I didnt know if this is a new thing for The Nook or not or maybe i'd never paid attention, but they charge addition 4.5% if you use a credit card or debit card. Unless you use cash of course. Our total bill for 3 people having breakfast came out to $74 +$14 tip (good service) = $88. Only nice thing I can say about this place today is the ambiance is nice and the wait staff is on point. Yeah, I wont be coming back here anymore. I think i'm going to give my business to CiCi Cafe in Tarzana. read more

We've eaten at The Nook a number of times in the past, but today was a disappointing experience. I ordered the Razzy Pancakes which I've had many times previously. Today the pancakes were delivered with a minuscule amount of their raspberry sauce. When I brought the problem to the attention of the waitress, she said she could bring more sauce AT AN ADDITIONAL COST. The pancakes were large and the syrup was delivered in a thimble of a container. I asked the waitress for more syrup and she never brought it. Finally I was able to ask a person bussing the tables for the syrup and he was nice enough to bring it, again in a tiny little carafe. Ridiculously small for the size of the pancakes. Especially for pancakes at the price point of $17.63. My wife ordered one of their Benedicts and specifically ordered the eggs medium so that the whites did not run. Of course the whites were runny. It's really not that difficult to cook poached eggs properly, we do it at home all the time. Not a very happy experience. read more

It has been difficult to find a restaurant during Passover, because for those that are closed, most do not put it on their website or the Yelp page. The Nook is a cozy breakfast and lunch location in Encino. I started with black coffee and then ordered the Nutkracker crepe with whipped cream on the side. The dish came with two large crapes, topped with fresh strawberries, chocolate chips, crumbled, macadamia nuts, and powdered sugar and maple syrup. Overall, it was too sweet for me, and the crepe itself, did not cut easily. So I ate only one of the crepes and took the other to go. Service is to the point, prompt and friendly. The breakfast menu has several representatives from each class of favorite breakfast items. There is some thing for everyone. I have to come back to try the other breakfast items that have caught my eye. read more

Our first time... Big portions. We ordered 2 nookie waffles.... Ddd-lish! The green machine...aaahhhh on the bland side. It didn't have as much flavor as I expected.. I guess I'm used to Cici's cafe. But the hash Benedict.... Oooohhh yeah!!! This was worth the drive. It was so flavorful!!! My new favorite spot for this savory dish. Wait time for seating and to get our food was pretty quick. If you are looking to feed breakfast to a group of people with ranging dietary preferences, the Nook is your place! I've taken many here over the years from fitness coaches, family members, friends and dates, they all want to come back to the Nook. From the saliva-inducing pancakes and french toast, they have options for everyone. My go-to is the Big Mama omelette - get it with or without mozzarella cheese as the tomatillo salsa keeps it juicy-juicy. A more recent upgrade over the years is the espresso bar with lattes and cappuccinos. Did I mention they're a speedy and efficient operation? This place is fast and delicious! Thank you for such an awesome and flexible breakfast option! Parking can be tough as the parking lot is busy but you can enjoy a peek at a 400 year old oak tree on Louise near the entrance. read more

One of the best breakfast places in The Valley indeed. The food is freshly cooked and served warm. Nice little restaurant. Was greeted right when we entered. Place was crowded, Saturday morning. It was very loud . Hard to hear. Even the girl taking our order said how loud it was, she couldn't hear us. A lot of employees. I ordered the gluten free pancakes. They didn't taste to good. Almost had a chemical taste to them. A side of ham, was ok a little on the dry side. Also a side of country potatoes, that were probably warmed up in an air fryer. Wasn't thrilled with my food. Wife had an order of crab cakes Benedict which she liked, and an order of crepes called she devil. She liked both. Don't know if we'll return due to the noise level . The Nook in Encino is a good breakfast spot and usually crowded. A nice ambiance with good service and a diverse menu. I had the original pancakes which were excellent and it was a healthy portion of 3 nice-sized cakes. The coffee was great. My friends had various omelettes and eggs Benedict dishes. First time customer and had an enjoyable experience! Big menu, good food and great service, perfect combo to get the day started for breakfast or brunch. Also really liked the ample parking lot, which is rare in Ventura. Cozy inside. My wife and I shared the steak eggs (solid, lots of food for $20) and the crunchy toast, which was really good. Home made whipped cream definitely was the star. Was definitely busy on a Saturday, as expected but wasn't too bad of a wait. Definitely worth a visit. read more

Have tried it several times hoping things would get better but here is the issue. 1. They have very good food (although the omelets are usually overcooked) and are known for pancakes and waffles with various toppings. 2. The servers are very nice when they pay attention which leads to the major recurring issue that has happened every time I have eaten here... 3. Once you get your food forget about additional service. There are always 3-5 people (some who don't seem to be waiters) just standing around behind the counter drinking coffee and hanging out. Literally every time we have to ask for a check a million times. And for some reason paying the bill seems to confuse them. Four of us meet for breakfast every Sunday in the area and last Sunday they were officially removed from our rotation. As an aside, this place used to be packed and seems to be less busy each time so others must be dealing with same service. read more

Where do I start this been on my list for a long time and I finally came through. Came Thursday Morning with my cousin . We like trying different dishes. So I got the Steak Bendict's & the chocolate crunchy toast. The Steak bendicts were good love the portion but to be honest I wish the eggs were poached and omg the hash browns was the star on this dish so crunchy I loved them.. Crunchy Toast guys let me tell you the French toast was fire never had anything like that.. Definitely will be coming back to explore the menu.. One of my favorite breakfast spots! So many options, they have everything! I usually get the Turkey Scrambler with hash browns and rye bread, mm mmm! Such a huge portion, I don't normally finish. The scramble has such great flavors and is not watery (Like some scrambles I've had). The hash browns are nice and crispy. I've also had the Queen Bee Waffle; strawberries and blueberries were sweet and fresh. Once, I got the King Kong pancake and as expected, SO SWEET. Definitely something to share with the table! I love peanut butter so I couldn't resist trying it at some point. We got there at 9am on a Saturday and was seated right away! Highly recommend!! read more

Oh my goodness was this food delicious!!! I took my time savoring this breakfast! The prices were decent but you won't find anything under $15 really. But the portions are fantastic for the price! First time at The Nook for brunch on a Sunday. Our wait time wasn't that long to be seated. We waited about 17 minutes for a party of 7. We had a great table at the very corner by the fountain and it was just our table which was nice. Our server was excellent. We didn't get his name but he was nice and checked on us a couple of times. We also informed him our child had food allergies specifically peanut and tree nuts. Our child's Monte Cristo sandwich was served first and he informed us the cook made sure it was peanut free and nut free and no risk of cross contamination. It was nice to know they can cater to families with food allergies. We also called ahead before coming here to inquire. I will definitely tell our social circles about how awesome the customer service is at The Nook especially for a big family. Our food was delicious, hot and fresh. We ordered 2 Monte Cristo, 2 Round Tripper, Nookies Patty Melt Burger, Nookies Steak Fajitas Burrito, Banana Crepe, Pastrami Melt Sandwich, strawberry smoothie and coffee. Steak was cooked to perfection. It was tender and flavorful. One of the best Monte Cristo and Pastrami Melt Sandwiches we've tasted in a long time. Steak fajitas are full of steak not just cheese and vegetables. Also, their servings are huge and we had plenty of leftover for to go. Can't wait for our next brunch at The Nook. The chicken was well seasoned and crispy paired with tangy pickled vegetables and a tasty pretzel bun. The combination of flavours packed a punch but we did wish for a thicker slice of chicken. The tater tots were very well seasoned too and the sauces were yummy, something acidic would be a nice addition to cut through the fatty goodness. When we asked for utensils they didn't have any forks so they gave us one spoon and one knife. We made it work. Definitely want to come back to try other things on their menu whenever they rotate it.

Aside from our booth being in use, there were some people at the bar, another 2 booths occupied towards the kitchen side, and one table behind us at the corner in use, so it wasn't about them being busy. I'm hoping this was just a one-time experience because I've genuinely enjoyed my previous visits and would like to come back. The restaurant has a great atmosphere, and I hope future visits feel a little more relaxed and allow guests to enjoy their time without feeling rushed to pay and leave.

And I sat waiting at least 8 minutes staring at the rice. I assured my young man that the servers would be fine with me getting another plate to save them from having to. And once I did, he suddenly started eating from my plate of my peanut butter free fried rice. And of course, when a server did attend to us and I let her know, she was glad I took matters into my own hands instead of not eating for 15 minutes. Thoughts: Go for dinner, and order from the full dinner menu, skip the skimpy street eats menu. With reservations you can sit in the main restaurant area that has some view to the outdoors. Without it - back to the black room you go! Know that it will be expensive. And it will be original. Not sure I'll go back. It's very "special occasion" upscale dining. I'm definitely looking forward to coming back to try their breakfast menu and other items though. Because peeking at the other tables they offerings looked delicious.

DO NOT ORDER THE CRAB CAKE BENEDICT Let me start by saying that prior to my most recent visit I've been to the Nook two or three times and based on those visits the place would get five stars. I don't believe in over-penalizing an establishment for one bad experience. But this was one bad experience that went wrong in multiple ways. The first problem was how long it took to get service. I don't mean the wait to get a table (give yourselves plenty of time to be seated), I mean that once we were seated it took forever for someone to bring us drinks or take our orders. The second issue was with the crab cake benedict. I regret that I did not take a picture of what I received but there is no way this thing could be considered a crab cake. It looked like a deep fried compressed crab patty (if there was really any crab in it). Imagine if Del Taco had crab cakes, that's what this looked like. It was clearly something right out of a box in the freezer and thrown on top of an english muffin. It didn't look like a crap cake and it didn't taste like crab. It is really false advertising and grossly overpriced for what it is. Yuck. This was so disappointing. And it makes me nervous about exploring other new dishes that I haven't had before. Maybe I got lucky the first 2-3 times and there are many other nightmares like this hiding on the menu. Who knows. read more

The Nook in Sherman Oaks is one of those places that instantly feels like home. I have been coming to the Nook for the past six months. A friend tipped me off about this place, and I have been coming here at least once a week since then. So why have I become such a fan of The Nook? First of all, staff is really nice and on top of their game. In addition, the menu offers a very good selection of different dishes. Usually I get the Krunch Berry pancake. I mean, how could you go wrong with fresh strawberries and bananas on whole wheat cakes, topped with almonds? You really can't, especially when the strawberries are really, really fresh. I have read some of the other reviews, especially critiques of the coffee, but I personally like the coffee. It can be a trifle strong, but I like my coffee that way. So, all in all, this is a very good place for breakfast. read more

I had breakfast this morning at the Nook and everything that could have gone wrong, went wrong. My order was prepared wrong and I had to send it back and waited another 15-20 minutes. When I did get my meal it was still not correct and I had to send a portion of it back (which I never actually received). I called the manager who was our server, Natalie, and she was truly rude and unapologetic. I told her that I ordered the food a certain way and she was insistent that I ordered it differently. I also told her about the other item on my order that I never received and she said "it is what it is". I paid my bill in full (no courtesy discount). Please do not go to this place. Service is not what it used to be. Such an awful experience and they don't care about customer service. read more

This is one of my favorite local places to grab brunch. The food is consistently good, but, like most good brunch places, it gets fairly crowded on Saturday and Sunday morning and afternoons. However, the Nook is well worth the wait. I particularly like the crepes at The Nook. My favorite crepe is the She Devil, which is a delicious blend of mascarpone sauce, fresh strawberries and whipped cream. It is rich and delicious, and the perfect item when you are in an indulgent mood. If you are feeling particularly hungry, then you should go for the Vive la France combination. We came in put our names down for a party of 3 and were told it was about a 20 minute wait, while waiting I went inside to ask where the bathroom was and the host rudely told me while on her phone to "go wait outside, I'll tell you when you can come in" I didn't even get to ask her where the bathroom was. Underwhelmed. I ordered a coffee when we first sat down and I had to remind the waitress to bring it about 10 minutes later. I ordered eggs over medium and they came out with the whites WAY runny and undercooked. Came in here to pick-up a take-out and found that they were serving people despite the fact that all restaurants were ordered to shut down dine in patronage during the GLOBAL CORONA PANDEMIC!!!! Totally pleased with this place for breakfast. We've waited in line before but it was just taking too long to get in. While we are fans of Mama's on Washington, this was a great place to stop since the wait was not very long. The menu has so many delicious and hearty offerings. The service was fast and friendly. If I were the owner of this place I'd change up the hostess asap. Incredibly rude and unprofessional. Doesn't know how to do their job and thinks they're doing you a favor. It's also really dark, loud and stuffy inside the restaurant. If I were to ever go back sitting outside would be a must. Come here about once a week for breakfast, totally reliable, friendly place. Pancakes are very good, as are the many different omlettes. Nice friendly service, good coffee, relaxing spot with lots of locals.Only complainti have is in the warmer months they need to improve on their cooling system ,as it is now the doors are frequently open and it tends to get quite warm then. I really liked the Nook, it was good food and nice portions. Not too big but not too small. The home cooked cornbeef hash looked amazing and next time I am going to have to try it. The lady marmalade, or pumpkin pancakes, were not excessively sweet, striking a harmonious balance of pumpkin flavor.
