This was my first time here and it will definitely not be my last. Ruben made sure my mom and sister (which were first timers as well) feel really special. He took the time to go over the menu, he was polite, had an exceptional customer service and he also made us laugh which was a plus in my book! The food was amazing, mauricio i think that was his name ( he was new and was his 3rd day there) made sure our water cups were never empty. The elite style of service along with amazing food made us feel spectacular. This place sure knows that they're doing when it comes to food and service. I'll definitely recommend this place to my friends and family and thank you Ruben! We wanted to take you home! Food and service here is always top notch. I'm a long-time customer, first-time reviewer of The Olive in recognition of the amazing service that my family and I received tonight from our waiter Bryan B. We ordered the spicy potatoes and spicy hummus for starts; a Chicken Kabob plate, a Grilled Salmon Kabob plate, and a Tabbouli Salad. The kabobs were just right, juicy and seasoned perfectly and the salad was fresh and lemony. Bryan was so respectful, attentive, and hustled to get drinks refilled, extra plates and pita on our table. He provided the kind of service that I would return for again and again. read more

Great food and service, just check your order, I got chicken skewers instead of the salmon I had ordered. I brought it to the servers attention and told him it was not a big deal, the chicken was good and I had already eaten half of the meal. To our surprise, the one meal was comped. Totally not necessary but it was appreciated, we left him a really good tip. read more

Growing up with Middle Eastern food having this gem in my own backyard is awesome! Having visited several times now The Olive Restobar never disappoints! They have a large menu with lots of choices. The chicken kabobs are delicious and of generous portions shareable. The hummus is above and beyond authentic. I love the arugula salad!! I could go on and on! I have lived by this restaurant for years, but it was always crowded. A friend wanted to go so I decided to go. BEST veggie panini I have every had. The veggies were crunchy not soft, the bread excellent! The atmosphere and service were great also. We set outside nice day! I would give it 5 stars but I have only been there once. THIS PLACE IS DISGUSTING!! Never coming here again!! I order a chicken Alfredo pasta and I got this disgusting thing! THERES NO SEASONING what so ever. I tried to add cheese and seasoning at home but it was just gross. I felt like I was eating paper!! Waste of money! Couldn't even eat one bit. We have been to this place many times and always enjoy the food. I am constantly singing this places praises to anyone that will list, regarding them being one of the best resturantes in Downey. We went in 3/17/23 and we had a reservation. We were seated prompt.and over, the service of everyone involved was great. I ordered.the surf and turf, which seems to be the emost expensive thing on the menu. That's not a flex, steak is just what I love and what I order when I'm out. They advertise the surf and turf as, I believe, a 10 oz herb crusted ribeye with shrimp. If they mentioned somewhere the number rof shrimp, I missed it. It was 4 or 5 shrimp. Not 5 jumbo "I can't believe how big and meaty these are. These are 4-5 plain ass, boring and plain shrimp. As for the steak? When will I learn? I Ordered my steak Medeum The steak was thin, far too thin for any questions around desirable doness to be relevant. read more

The waiter recommended the skewer plate so my friend and I tried this and we both enjoyed our plates. I had the lamb and steak, my friend had the shrimp and steak. The rice texture was a smidge 'wet' for my liking, but it was very flavorful so I still enjoyed it (I tend to like rice on the slightly Al dente/ less watery side vs. more watery/ mushy/ soft) . Lamb didn't have a gamey taste, and it was seasoned with herbs that enhanced the flavor without being overpowering. It was happy hour so we also tried a bunch of different appetizers. We tried the tzatziki, a fried potato plate, a cheese spread dip thing, and the fried cauliflower. Not mind blowing, but good solid. My favorite was the cauliflower and if I had to choose a non favorite, I would say the fried potatoes. I don't think I was expecting the jalapeño flavor profile with Mediterranean food. It was good, just unexpected. If you like potatoes with a jalapeño kick, and would enjoy with your meal, I'd still recommend it. We were celebrating an event so we also splurged and ordered a crème brûlée. The texture of it was perfect- the top sugar layer was thin, crunchy, and gave the satisfying back-of-spoon shatter. The taste of the crème brûlée was ok. Not bad, but not amazing. This could be due to the fact that I overate way more than I should have and I was too full to eat anything else. TL;DR - solid place that didn't knock my socks off, but 100% met my expectations. I'll def be back to try everything else on their menu. I recommend coming during happy hour and taking advantage of their happy hour menu. read more

I had a drink a few years ago (Sloe Gin Ramos) and not many bartenders know how to make it, nor do they want to take the time to make it. Amanda and Chris jumped right in and made it (takes 10-15 minutes to make). It was delicious and the preparation was a show! Loved it. All bartenders, servers, and bar backs were working in unison, like an orchestra. You could tell they all enjoyed their jobs and coworkers! It made for a beautiful ambiance. Mediterranean Treat in Downey - Worth the Splurge 4.5 Stars Great ambience--clean, modern interiors with both indoor and outdoor seating. Service was excellent: warm smiles, friendly staff, and impressively fast turnaround. Management clearly cares about guests and goes the extra mile. If you decide to order the house specialty, the King's Kebab, I'd recommend letting them know how you'd like it prepared. The chef's choice of cooking it all the way through wasn't ideal for me--it made the meat a bit chewy. Asking for it medium will keep it softer and juicier. The same goes for the fries that come with it--they were softer than I'd hoped for and not as crunchy on the outside. So it's worth mentioning that when you order. Appetizers were delicious and portioned generously--perfect for 2-3 people to share. The King's Kebab platter itself easily feeds 2-3, depending on appetite. For dessert, the bread pudding with croissant-chocolate ice cream was well-balanced and not overly sweet. Just a heads up: it's more of a rich ice cream with toppings than an actual croissant dessert. They offer a nice wine list plus a good selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. I tried the non-alcoholic piña colada--it was refreshing, though I imagine it would shine even more with a splash of rum. I had to skip that part since I was driving. This may not be your go-to everyday lunch spot, as the price point is on the higher side--but it's absolutely worth it when you're looking for something special. My mom got the chicken and steak combo, while my nana, aunt, and I got steak and shrimp. Now let's discuss the steak. Flavorful? Yes. Seasoned? Absolutely. Tender? Baby... no That steak was fighting back. It was definitely overcooked and tough, which was disappointing because the flavor itself was actually really good. Here are the official family reviews because everybody had SOMETHING to say: My mom: "It was okay. I feel like the people who bring the food out need to have a better attitude and actually listen to the customers regarding their food." My nana: "I think it was simply amazing! The food was great, the atmosphere was wonderful, and the servers were awesome giving extras and all. The food here is seriously SO good. The baby loved the chicken kabob plate! Every bite tasted fresh, flavorful, and just exactly what I needed. I was a little indecisive before ordering (pregnancy cravings are no joke ), but our server Kenneth was incredibly patient, kind, and attentive to both my husband and me. He really took the time to explain the menu and helped me figure out exactly what to get, which I appreciated so much. Everything he recommended turned out AMAZING like, I was genuinely impressed with every dish. The service honestly made the whole experience stand out. We stopped by this place for lunch. We were greeted and seated right away since they had couple of tables available. Our waiter Carlos we very friendly nice and professional. For appetizer we had the loaded Labneh and Greek salad. The Labneh with their warm soft pita bread was really good and the salad was so fresh crisp and refreshing in a hot day like today. For entree I ordered the shrimp Provençal and my girlfriend ordered the Scottish Salmon. The ingredients were extremely fresh and they were prepared very nicely delicately and plated very elegantly and appetizing to the point that I didn't even take a picture of it and just dug in Food tasted really delicious and it was so well balanced and palatable. We both finished our food which it happens rarely. We were both full but the quality of food and the presentation was so good that we decided to share a Cream brûlée for dessert. That's really creamy and delicious too. All I can say is that if you are looking for a great food and amazing vibe this place is for you.
