Really enjoyed breakfast at the pancake house. When it first opened, I thought it was an odd addition to downtown Westport. But, on the days you crave breakfast, it's the perfect spot in town. The other breakfast places - diners really - aren't too close so the pancake house fills the bill. Love they have exclusively real maple syrup and a variety from which to choose. I highly recommend this spot but beware it is pricey. Pancakes (and all dishes really) are priced high compared to other breakfast spots - guess they need to cover the exorbitant Westport rent. And, if you're traveling through on i-95, it's not too far from the highway. FYI - the challah French toast was very very thin. Like normal French toast. Much too pricey for what it was. read more

I went into this place well aware of the low rating so I was mentally prepared for whatever may happen. This is a restaurant with two floors with the majority of seating options upstairs and a bar/counter option on the ground level. You're met with a sign saying please wait to be seated. I waited a good 5 minutes before deciding to walk upstairs with my friend as no one was present to greet us. They told us it'd be a few minutes for a table which was fine as we noticed most tables were totally dirty with dishes and whatnot. I noticed that the tables remained that way throughout my entire meal. The waiter was very nice but constantly out of breath and visibly sweaty. I had a feeling like the restaurant was ran poorly, but not at the fault of the table staff. I think my waiter may have been waiting the entire second floor alone because it felt like he went missing a few times. The food I ordered was delicious and lived up to my expectations. If I didn't look at the menu beforehand, I would've been shocked by the price of my order as it was near $20 for something on the simpler side. In fact, the menu is genuinely overpriced. Like other reviewers stated, there is a gross and awkward fly/gnat problem in the establishment which is a massive turnoff as a diner. Hopefully they can get that under control because it was bad enough to interrupt the meal several times. All in all, I think there may be some management issues that reflect on the people doing the actual labor (the waiters and other floor staff), where it almost felt like an amateur business. I have been to OPH's across the country. This one is okay. The service is continuous and the staff is responsive to your needs. The decor is great. Love the cast iron skillet chandelier!! The elevator needs to work, especially with the restroom downstairs. The food does not taste like the usual OPH. The pancakes lacked that distinct flavor even with the syrup. Our first visit to the OPH in Westport and we enjoyed it. We got here early on a Sunday morning and were one of like three tables occupied for the first 20 minutes, they seated us in the upstairs section which has plenty of room. The service was great with friendly staff. The food was perfect for a breakfast place. Nothing too fancy with all the regulars being represented. My wife ordered the pecan waffle with extra strawberries and cream. That plate came with 2 eggs and bacon. That's a lot of food. Waffle and eggs were cooked perfect. The bacon was a little overcooked. I had the mini minced ham breakfast which comes with scrambled eggs and diced ham and a side of 3 pancakes. I got blueberry pancakes for an extra couple of bucks. The pancakes were not huge so three was a perfect amount. We both went conservative and got the maple syrup but for the adventurous there are several more flavors. The first Original Pancake House was founded in Portland, Oregon in 1953. Decades later it came to Connecticut. Years and years ago in the 1980's, the Original Pancake House was located in New Haven. They made the most wonderful cast-iron German apple pancakes. They were light and fluffy and melted in your mouth. When we found out that the Original Pancake House had opened again in Westport, we were eager to give it a try. They advertise that they had the German apple pancakes among a nice variety of other breakfast dishes. The apple pancake today was good, but definitely not in the same league as the place located in New Haven. They were also very short staffed and many tables needed to be cleaned. I would give the Original Pancake House another try perhaps when they are less crowded or better staffed. Fortunately, there are a lot of other super places to explore in Westport, so it wasn't a complete loss. read more

One of my favorite Pancake houses! Everything is great at this place, down to their coffee. I absolutely love getting up early to have breakfast here. The service has always been so friendly and fast. There's a small parking lot that I find to be always full when I go but there's meter parking right in from and across the street that I always find. It's a NO for me. A friend recommended we meet here for breakfast to catch up. I'm a Yelp review Queen and unfortunately didn't look this place up before we went because if I did, I would have immediately suggested another place. When we arrived we were quickly seated. The restaurant was quite empty. As soon as we sat down we noticed gnats flying around. We ordered and the gnat problem just got worse. They were everywhere, it was disgusting to be honest because if they were like that in the dining area I can only imagine what they were like in the kitchen. They absolutely have to have an infestation because it was so bad that we both had to cover our orange juices with napkins and were waving them off from around our food. Next, we got our food and it was barely mediocre. I ate one half of my breakfast sandwich. The homefries are definitely bagged potatoes, tasted bland and dry and was unseasoned and barely warm. I didn't even bother to ask for them to be heated up because microwaved or not, they were nasty. The audacity kicked in for me when the check came. We got an omelet (came with homefries) two orange juices, two coffees, and a breakfast sandwich (also came with homefries) and our bill was $70. That is WILD. The two orange juices cost $12! Folks, don't waste your money here. You might as well just go to IHOP. And their making money just because they're located is westport. I'll never return. Not even if they gave me free food because the food was that mediocre and they have a bad gnat infestation that needs attention asap. Connecticut is a state that is known for its local diners. I suggest you find one and get a nice home cooked breakfast because this place isn't it. I was greeted by the manager Jean immediately with a warm welcome he's a familiar face within the Connecticut hospitality group, so as soon as I saw him, I knew I was in a good place, because he never picks places that are not delicious to work at! Our waiter was kind knowledgeable took the time to answer all of her questions thoroughly and made great recommendations. The space is absolutely gorgeous. It's a multi level. Queen restaurant downstairs has a little bit of a bar type feels very beautiful. I cannot say enough great things about the food. We ordered two entrées and sign. The orange juice felt like I was drinking it straight out of an orange. Other reviews about this place are fairly accurate. Been coming here since 11/23 and service is mediocre at best. Today we came in, were promptly seated and then waited 8-10 minutes watching one server running around, another server standing around, and the manager chatting and laughing with another employee before my fiancé got up and said asked if our waitress was coming over to get our drink order. I've grown up in restaurants. I've worked front and back for the last 28 years. If your coworker is drowning, and you're free, you at least help their new table and ask if they want something to drink until you can get freed up and help them. And as a manager, you never stand around laughing in front customers. Period! Too easy for people to take it the wrong way, and you certainly don't do it while tables are sitting waiting to be served. Our server when she did come over, may not realize how loud she really is but we all felt like she was yelling to us rather than speaking to us. Food is good, and portion size is very reasonable, Been here seven times now and never noticed a fly problem, The place needs new management that knows how to run a restaurant and understands customer service. The team can't be faulted if must is the problem. Also, be sure to check your receipt before you pay. Come hungry because eggs and bacon come with pancakes , and vice versa . The pancakes were light and fluffy . I also recommend the fresh strawberry waffle with or without whipped cream. The corned beef hash was good but I prefer both sides to be more browned and crispy. Prices are reasonable and are not that far off from the "International" place when it used to be in Westport (adjusted for inflation) but there's a difference in quality and this place (and probably the entire chain) is many notches above. My better half had the Senior Plate (you don't have to be in your Golden Years) and the pancakes were larger than medallions but fluffy and light. Will definitely be back, since I also joined their customer loyalty program and got points for this first breakfast - plus they comped me for today's coffee! Poor experience and service. Food is fine but not worth it for the service. Drinks were delivered but we were missing one coffee and had had to ask 5 times and two different people just to get that cup of coffee. Ordered a chocolate milk and got a hot chocolate instead.
