Watch out for the spice level! Level 1-5. We always do level 2 to be on the safe side. 3 is spicy and 4 is burning hot spicy ! I can't imagine eating level 5! Food is always delicious here. Customer service is superb and they are very attentive. During lunch hour the line is moderate but if you go during dinner hour, expect to be on the waiting list.

Papaya salad - Thai style - mild and was spicy for me but good!

Pretty decent Thai food, a bit pricier than I like, but these days, prices just keep increasing yet no increase in salary. You have to do more with less, so frustrating. Ridiculous wars jacking up prices which I didnt vote for. OK enough of my complaining and onto the review. After a failed to go order to a Thai place 5 min away, I called this place to place a papaya salad order. There are 3 options and next time I will try the Laos version. I asked for mild. I can't do spicy. I ordered a tofu pad Thai, also mild. Woman on the phone was efficient and said my order would be ready in 10 min. I drove over and sure enough, within less than 10 min, my order was ready! With tax and tip, both entrees came to $40! Wow! Happy to report that both items were good, not the best Thai I have ever eaten (been to Thailand and had the real deal all over Thailand), but very solid. Fresh ingredients, fast and efficient ordering and pick up and close to where I am, I will be back to explore more of their interesting menu! Their tomyum noodle was so good! I love anything tomyum so this definitely hit the spot. Their green curry was also another one of my favorites, everything here was so good! i used to come here all the time growing up but unfortunately, i can't justify it anymore. they have some of the best thai food i've ever tasted but have put an included gratuity that they don't make enough of an effort to notify their customers of. there's no visible sign in the restaurant either. they also have really bad service that i've always just ignored because the food was really that good. also extra cilantro being 3 bucks is wild.

I haven't been back here in a couple of years since the last experience was disappointing, but well, I'm here. Last time: I ordered takeout during the pandemic and the quality had gone down so much. The pad thai was sopping wet with an overly sweet sauce. The drunken noodle (with level 1 spice) was mushy and just a dash of ground black pepper. Come on, give us a real Level 1 Thai spice! I came back because a friend wanted to come here for dinner and so here I am. The pad thai was much drier this time, and the level 1 spice had a good kick. The crab fried rice was fried correctly, though the crab flavor wasn't really too present. There is crab, just not flavorful. I don't think you can tell it was crab fried rice if you ate it with your eyes closed. It could have just been egg fried rice. My friend ordered the level 4 seafood tom yum and she really enjoyed the spice. Rice still needs to be ordered separately for the soups and curries, which is really strange. The other thai restaurant nearby, Aaharn 56 gives rice together with your and for several dollars cheaper too. While there was some improvement in cooking, I haven't found any dish that would make me specifically come here. Suggested tip starts at 20%

My friend lives a 3 minute walk away from this plaza and we decided to give another chance and okaaay a lot better than last time! Our server this time understood our spice levels perfectly. Last time we went I think we went too mild and they also interpreted us to handle even less spice. Red curry spice level 4: 5/5 yum!!! Real vegetables and not frozen cheap cubed vegetables this time. Good amount of spice. Larb () spice level 3: 3/5 can never find larb as good as in Thailand but it was still good Pad Thai () spice level 2: 4/5 hard to get this one wrong Also was able to get free iced tea for checking in via Yelp, so that was a W too. They're well known for their authentic and very spicy Thai dishes. Unfortunately, I feel like I enjoyed the food at the original location in Linda Vista better. That location shut down a while back. My go to dishes is drunken noodles, boat noodles, fried pork ribs, garlic chicken wings, grilled pork neck and papaya salad. 1st time trying the beef pineapple fried rice, beef tendon soup and the beef salad. Pineapple fried rice is good, the meat in the soup is tender but the broth got a little salty for me and I wished the beef in the salad isn't so well done. TBH I've had better elsewhere but not bad. Spice level 3 is their medium and can be pretty spicy. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's usually a full house.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Our servers have always been pleasant & food comes out quick.

I had dinner here with my daughter. We ordered the drunken noodles, tom yum noodle bowl, and mango sticky rice. The Thai flavors tasted authentic, as if there was a Thai grandma cooking in the kitchen. We enjoyed the food and found the service to be pleasant as well. This is a small Thai restaurant and it's not as fancy as some of the other Thai restaurants I've visited. However, where they lacked in decor, they made up in flavor. Food presentation was ordinary but the flavors were extraordinary!

This is the BEST Thai restaurant in San Diego! We came here for small bites, everything we had was a 10/10!! We had: - Garlic chicken wings - $13.40 for 5 pieces, crispy, flavorful, just right - Fried pork ribs - $13.40 lots of garlic on top, sauce packed with flavor - Thai-Isan sausage - $12.34 hits all the taste buds, served with ginger, cucumber, lettuce, peanuts, and a few dried peppers, VERY GOOD Everything we tried was amazing, HIGHLY recommend! After all these years, this place is still good! Nice little restaurant in a nice area. I really enjoyed the beef jerky and papaya salad. The beef soup was delicious. The green curry was on point. And the mango with sticky rice was an awesome treat! Prices are decent. The service was good. We will probably come back again!

It was a full house when I came in but I got seated pretty quick since I wanted to sit outside. I was craving soup and so glad I came here for the boat noodles! They were very tasty, with tender beef and rich, flavorful broth. The food came out quickly, which was a big plus. I also ordered a Thai tea and it was delicious--perfectly sweet and refreshing.

The food at Sab-E-Lee (SEL) has always been good-to-great, especially at their offshoot, Thai Papaya, but god damn has it been difficult keeping up as the restaurant opened, moved, split, morphed, closed, reopened, endured several changes of ownership and, more importantly, kitchen staff. Here, according to an article published last summer on Sandiegoville, is where we are, and how we got here: 2008 - Original SEL was founded by Don Runowski in Linda Vista 2012 - Second Original SEL opened in Rancho Penasquitos 2015 - Thai Papaya opened in original Original SEL location, and that Original SEL moved to Linda Vista Shopping Mall plaza 2021 - Thai Papaya closed 2022 - Original Original SEL sold, and rebranded Zab Linda 2024 - Second Original SEL sold; name remains "Original Sab-E-Lee" as of March 2025 As I say, I've always enjoyed dining with whoever runs whatever iteration of Original Sab-E-Lee I visited. You'll note that I've omitted any mention of Sab-E-Lee Santee. Its history of ownership and management is sketchy; some folks mistakenly believe that the "original owner" left Linda Vista to open the place in East County, but there's no record of a Runowski connected with the Santee business, so that's not right. And anyway, SEL Santee was rebranded in 2024; it's now called "Faidang Thai Restaurant". And anyway, I don't think I'll eat there, since, in February 2025, Faidang was closed by the San Diego County Department of Environmental Health and Quality for these infractions: Holding Temperatures - Major; Vermin - Major; Food Contact Surfaces - Minor; Equipment and Utensil Storage, Use - Out of Compliance; Floors, Walls, and Ceilings - Out of Compliance; Impoundment - Out of Compliance.

One of the best places for authentic Lao food. Delish. Service is always top notch here, water refills every few minutes so you never run out of water with the spicy Thai chili peppers! Went on a lunch date with a friend and we split the Tom Yum Soup and Cashew Nut rice dish - so delicious! The soup broth was super flavorful (a bit spicy if you like a kick) and the cashew nut's sauce was so yummyyyy (sweet and salty). The food came out really fast too. After we ordered I stopped by the bathroom, and when I went to sit back down after a few minutes, our plates were already coming out! Waitress was very nice. Plentyful seating in the restaurant with nice photos or decor in the room to look at. Store is located in a Vons plaza so easy parking. Would recommend! read more

You know you've ordered right when the servers ask you if you've ever been to the country of the food's origin. I got the raw beef, raw shrimp, and one of the pork neck options. Everything was so good that I genuinely almost cried. Took leftovers home and finished those within half an hour. If you're eating here, I would highly recommend branching out from more generally popular Thai dishes. Super fresh, friendly, fast, and incredibly delicious. I went here to take myself on a date around lunch time, and there was barely anyone. You know what I ordered - the boat noodles. I was having a great day but sh-t week and needed something to cheer me up. This brought me allll the way up. Especially, when I asked for the chili oil. Dude, that stuff is lethal. Just a little bit and your mouth will be on fire. I find that the quality here is always soooo consistent. I also love the efficiency, friendliness and service. Everyone is so attentive and I am happy to come back soon for another round! read more

Love this place!! The green curry is so flavorful, that I like to take home the curry base to make more meals from it! Be careful on the spice tho, I can take spicy but even a 2/10 was a lot for me! It's been many years since I've last had Sab-E-Lee and omg I fell in love with it all over again, even harder. I visited on a Saturday evening recently with no wait for 2 people, but a pretty full restaurant. We shared the Yellow Curry with Chicken, Tom Yum Soup with Shrimp, Thai Fried Rice with Beef, white rice, and Thai iced tea. Everything tasted great and had a lot of flavor. Service was nice. The menu has a variety of choices not found on a regular Thai restaurant. I ordered their delicious beef and tendon Thai soup which is reminiscent of Pho soup with a twist of Thai flavors. The ambiance is cozy with enough room to move about comfortably. The service is good. Our waitress took our orders and were served in a short while. Overall, it was a very pleasant experience and definitely recommend this restaurant. read more

We were taken by surprise at the generous portion sizes. With ingredients being so expensive these days, that certainly was a shock to us. The prices are still quite reasonable. Food is good, but service is a hit or miss. This review is based on my dine-in experience with one of the staff members. ZERO STARS. I had a Mio water enhancer in my purse so I decided to add some to my water cup, which was only half-filled at this point. I noticed one of the girls (not even our server) kept eyeballing my cup, so I sensed the vibe that she didn't like that I didn't order a drink from their menu. I finished my drink off and had the intention to *not* add Mio again to my water when they refilled my water (not a big deal, I can respect if restaurants don't like that. I'm not a jerk). A few minutes later, the same girl who was eyeballing my cup comes over to refill my brother's cup and says to me that they don't allow outside drinks. I said, 'Yeah, sorry. It was just a flavor thing for my water. That's fine, I'll just keep it as water.' She walks away without refilling my cup and I ask her if she can refill my water and she shakes her head no and walks away! What kind of restaurant refuses tap/drinking water to a customer? All the while I see two other tables with customers drinking from their hydro flasks. It was so bewildering you had to laugh about it. That night our bill was $100+, but I will NEVER give my money to this business ever again because a staff member decided to hassle me about free drinking water. So ridiculous. read more

This used to be my favorite thai restaurant, but I stopped eating here because they're never consistent with their spicy levels. I like food with flavor, but even when I order a level 2, it's the equivalent of a 6-7 and sometimes it's inedible. Their eggplant dish is too greasy and I have to fix it by adding in vegetables and tofu to dilute the spice and sauce. I do love their curry puffs; I think it's the best thing they carry. However, they get sold out of them. The drunken noodles are hit or miss. Sometimes it tastes great, authentic and other times, it's Americanized. I just arrived here; hopefully my experience and will meet or exceed my experiences at the original Ulric Street location. Ambiance and atmosphere are definitely very, very nice. I will add (now that I have a moment) that the food was well presented and wonderfully tasty. The drawback is that Sab-E-Lee prepares their food with plenty of MSG. I did not feel we'll after leaving - I (like many others) have bad reaction to MSG. In this day and age, stop using MSG. I would give Sab-E-Lee 5 Stars if they would NOT use MSG (unless customer requests), and if they would provide vegetarian/vegan curries (no Thai fish sauce). read more

The food here is not that great. Some of the dishes that they serve are completely different from what you would expect from the menu. One time I ordered the Boat Noodles and was served with a totally different dish with a weird soup base. I was really disappointed and upset that it was completely different from what I expected. Pretty much the only thai place in PQ. Like other reviewers say, it's highly inconsistent with the spicy levels, and they tend to bill wrong. Err on side of lower spice levels. No refunds, even if you order the same dish all the time, they don't know how spicy each individual chili peppers are, so a spicy 2 can taste like 8 one time and 3 next time, thus making ordering food there challenging. If it wasn't for this, I'd get food there every week! But in a pinch, I still like to get takeout here on occasion. read more

We were recommended here by a dear friend and honestly to say we were very disappointed. Service was not good. Food was not fresh. Among many others we ordered the boat noodles (few pieces of the beef tasted very weird) and the pad-see-ew (few pieces of the pork tasted sour). In addition, they charge $1 for hot water, $2 for rice when we ordered curry, and did not provide chopsticks at all (had to ask multiple times)... read more

Been wanting to try this place cruised in with my boy to have some lunch. Little did I know my life would be changed forever. When you walk in the is a giant statue of a gold Buddha smiling holding up a bowl above his head. Weird I thought to my self, as I took the first bite of my yellow curry I now understand. I am the Buddha and I'm smiling because this yellow curry so good almost had sex with the bowl!!! read more

This restaurant provides amazing service as well as enjoyable meals. One of my favourite places around here. The food and drinks arrived quick and the rates were economical. I recommend this place. Good food at a good price makes us happy and we'll definitely be keeping this spot in mind, especially considering we haven't been impressed by any other Thai options in Mira Mesa. As for the food, I ordered the pad see ew with chicken and was pleased with the flavor of the meal. He ordered the drunken noodles with tofu and cleaned his plate, which I take as a good sign. read more

I usually order curry with rice and pad-see-u. Here, spicy compared to any other thai restaurant, it is way spicier. I usually get spicy level around 6, and if you like spicy, go up higher!! Food is good, but service is not quite good. They usually through bill to me, I haven't had any good service here. But the foods come pretty quick, and delicious. read more

The food is really good and very spicy. It is easy to miss so keep your eyes out. The price is outrageous, for the Beef garlic and pepper it was $8.50 and to add rice it is another $1.50. I have never seen a thai place that charges extra for rice. However the next thai place is in Encinitas. So if it is pay day I suggest you try it out. read more
