Came for the first time after having lived close by for a couple years. I was excited to try a new place. It is a order at a counter, take a number, and have your food come out shortly after. We waited TWENTY FIVE MINUTES. Longer than if we were had go to a restaurant with a server for dining. In additional 2/5 things we ordered were completely different than what we had asked for and when asked for the correct things after having waited one was STILL wrong. We were frustrated and gave up at this point. Lastly the over priced brownie was still thawing and cold. We were speechless, what a waste of $$$. read more

Prior to the pandemic we were regulars at The Patio. After getting fully vaccinated and marinated we returned to what was our favorite place for a quick and relaxing lunch. I ordered the Greek Salad and my wife ordered a Pulled Pork plate. We seated ourself outside and in about 10 minutes my wife's dinner came. After waiting and additional 5 minutes I went inside and asked where my salad was. They had no record of a salad ; so I produced the receipt. No apologies from the staff. Finally after 5 additional minutes my salad arrived. After starting on my salad , I discover small black bugs crawling around in my salad. Buy this time; I am furious. We decided to leave rather than take any further chances. My wife's pulled pork was cold and both breads were stale. We approached the kitchen manager and explained to her and she simply shrugged her shoulders and looked at us. I will never return to this restaurant again. read more

Probably won't be going back. Way overpriced for what you get. Half slab of ribs, small pulled pork with fries and small coleslaw plus drink came to $26.40 with tax. You can go to a sit down restaurant and be served for less than that. Food was ok but not spectacular, coleslaw not seasoned to my liking. Half the plate was fries, for this I'm paying over $20 ? Soft drinks $2.50, outrageous and you have to serve yourself. I know meat has gotten expensive but you can do better for less. read more

This was my first time at The Patio! I decided to get a barbecue pulled pork sandwich with sweet potato waffle fries and coleslaw- YUM! I have minimal complaints! I came here last year during St Patrick's day for lunch with my daughter. At the time there was a Rueben sandwich offered only during this time. Being one one my favorite sandwich I ordered it. Much to my surprise this was by far the best Reuben I've ever had. There is no thousand island or Russian dressing on this, just very lean meat, sour kraut and Swiss cheese, toasted on bread (at this moment I can't remember what kind, sourdough, rye?) fast forward to 2023, I'm calling the store asking if still available since not on the website or can order for delivery, and yes, was available until the day I called, SCORE!! We come here 3 or 4 times a year and I am always happy with our dining experience, The menu has lots to chose from. This is a restaurant where you order at the counter, pay, get your drink cup, if you ordered a drink and then take a number and sit down. Your food will be brought to you. Service has always been very quick. There are plenty of cashiers, cooks, and food runners to take care of the customers. The Patio is an elaborately decorated barbecue restaurant located off of Highland Avenue in Lombard directly across the street from Yorktown Mall. The first thing to notice about this place right away is the atmosphere, it's slightly dark on the inside with lots of low lighting and even a fireplace. The dining area is extremely clean and while it has a trendy style to the lights, chairs and overall design of the restaurant it's in no way uncomfortable or or an eye sore. I've been here a few times prior to my most recent visit and have never been particularly impressed with the quality of the food here. On previous visits I've tried both the burger and a pulled pork sandwich and come away unimpressed, though it's been a long enough time to where I don't recall specifics of what did or didn't work with those two meals. On my most recent visit I decided to try the Chicago style hot dog which I will review here. The hot dog I received here was a skinless jumbo dog on a soft poppy seed bun. There was one fairly large slice of tomato that didn't quite cover the entire dog. There were cucumber slices as well which are a nice compliment. The pickle slice included was a bit too thick and wasn't as long as the whole hot dog itself either. The application of mustard, relish and onions was spot on and I have nothing to note about those. There were no sport peppers on this hot dog, nor was there any trace of celery salt. Overall this was an average quality hot dog, somewhat bolstered by the fact that it was a jumbo sized sausage rather than a normal width one. Overall The Patio is a very impressive place from an aesthetic standpoint. The quality of their food however hovers around average. It's a great place to take friends or family due to the ambiance, but not necessarily the best place if you're prioritizing taste over style. I give it three stars. read more

I've been a big fan of The Patio for over ten years. I've also dined at all five locations more than once. This Lombard location is my second favorite behind the Bridgeview location on Harlem. This is a "Counter Service" restaurant. You order at the counter, are given a number to place in the holder on the table you choose, and then an employee brings parts of your order as they are ready (soup and appetizers come first). Then employees bus the tables while you dine to remove stuff you are done with. Depending on the location and employees on staff they also sometimes offer to get you refills on your soda or iced tea and also offer to-go containers for your left overs (but this has NOT happened to me at this Lombard location yet). My favorite thing here is the Garlic Mashed Potatoes. Simply to die for! I also really like their soups (they sell big containers of soup to take home too), the Pulled Pork, and they also usually carry a Pulled Turkey that is moist and tangy. Most BBQ items here don't come with much sauce. There are regular and hot BBQ sauces at each table so you can add it to taste. They also have a wide variety of burgers and salads but I rarely eat those because I almost always get a Pulled Pork Sandwich. The Baked Beans are good but overpriced for the size of the dish. They offer bottled beer and wine by the glass at very reasonable prices. Restrooms are usually spotlessly clean. And at this location after washing your hands you can use paper towels or a Dyson Blade dryer. Feel free to hang out as long as you like. It's rare that the customer flow is great enough to fill all the tables so take your time. They have a drive thru but if you are in a rush you are better calling five minutes ahead and ordering. Then you pick it up and go on your way while all the other silly people are sitting and waiting for their food to be freshly made. Register and bussing employees here tend to not be as friendly and is the reason for my one star reduction. Smiles, greetings, and customer engagement is lacking here. Recently I asked an employee to change the channel on the TV to the Blackhawks game because no one in my section was watching the current show. The employee rolled his eyes and while pointing said "Go ask the manager behind the counter". Not cool. He could have easily just changed it or asked the manager to do so as he went past the manager every few minutes. read more

I would say more like 4.5, but round up. It was really good. Never having been here before, just want everyone to know, it is on the west side of Highland, across from the mall. It is cheery, clean, there is a bar in here and a fireplace. You order at the counter and within a very short time, your food is brought to your table, or booth ~ piping hot (the way a hot meal should be served). I had the BBQ pulled pork, come on, it's a BBQ spot. It was very tasty and there is additional BBQ sauce on the table to help make your sandwich extra messy ~ YUM. Another member of our party had the beer battered cod ~ 3 pieces, hot, and you could hear the crispiness. She said it was very good. Heads up, only the dinners are served with any sides, otherwise they are additional. I did bring home a package of their frozen ribs, fully cooked, to save myself having to cook sometime in the near future. Between the website and the facility itself, this restaurant seems pretty corporate. I had heard good things about their barbecue and consequently planned a day trip to the southwest suburbs in part to eat here. But when we pulled up and went inside, I lowered my expectations. It just looked so...personalityless. But as it turned out, the food was really good and I'm glad that we made the trek. So obviously, you can't judge a book by its cover. I should say that the meats were really good. The sides of cole slaw, french fries, and roasted vegetables were merely satisfactory. But oh those meats. I ordered the half-rack of ribs and pulled pork combination. I don't keep an official or unofficial list of the best ribs around, but if I did these would go near the top. They were frustratingly oversauced, but the meat itself was outstanding, firm and smoky. A true pleasure to eat. The pulled pork was also very good, but like the ribs should be left to shine on its own without a deluge of the house sauce. The ribs were a standard half-rack, but the pulled pork was about a cup worth, making this a truly decadent meal. I took the french bread which comes with the dinner (plus my wife's) and made two nice-sized pulled-pork sandwiches. So it basically came out to a half rack of ribs, two sandwiches, and a couple of sides for sixteen bucks. Now that's value. I doubt that I would drive 30 miles out of my way to eat here again, but I might try to make excuses to find myself in the neighborhood. read more

Reading other Yelper reviews, I conclude that this place has spotty food. First off, the aroma wafting from the building when you're out in the parking lot smells ethereal and makes your mouth start to water immediately. Inside you have a large menu, order like fast food, fill your own drinks at a fountain, and get your food delivered to your table. That person is NOT a waiter, don't expect them to come back- get off your keishter and take care of yourself, Lazy butt. For so many glowing reviews on the ribs, mine were one star. It was exactly like beef jerky. It definitely is smoked, and finished off on the grill, but I had a very hard time trying to even use a knife to cut into them when good ribs can be pulled apart by hand. On the other hand, the pulled pork was 4 stars. Great flavor, juicy as all get out, had the crunchy bark pieces and a little bit of fatty pieces for extra flavor. I loaded up the french bread roll they gave me with it to make a sandwich. Garlic mashed potatoes were very good, slaw was normal coleslaw. A tip- they have two sauces, the regular BBQ is in an unmarked squirt bottle on every table, but the Hot 'n Spicy sauce is in little plastic sealed containers with magenta lids that are not on every table, so if you want to use that, seek out a table with them. read more

The Patio is my mom's favorite restaurant. Now that we have one in Lombard, we are giving it more of a try too. My mom can eat a full slab of ribs- she loves them! My dad loves the beer battered cod. I think their hot dogs are fantastic- not many places will put both cucumber and pickle on their dogs- I like that. I also really like their chopped salad- it's delicious. And it comes with tasty bread and butter. This location seems very popular and busy. They have a great selection and the menu boards are big, clear and specific, and I like that you can look at the menu boards before you get in line so you don't hold anyone up as you make up your mind. You order at the counter and then get your drinks and then sit down and they bring your food to you. It seemed pretty quick. I think the fountain drink/iced tea counter is crowded and had a lot of people running into each other- not very pleasant. Otherwise, it was a good experience, with many people working and clearing tables. Great restaurant and location! They have a drive thru too. One more thing- one time last summer my mom asked us to pick up a container of cole slaw for the 4th of July. That's all we ordered, and the person at the counter asked us if we wanted it for here or to go! :) I guess a lot of people like to sit down with a big container of cole slaw with two forks and go to town. Heard so much about this place but living in Schaumburg- I never really go to this area until a friend asked me to meet her for dinner. I am not sure what I was expecting but this was actually really nice. The real star at this place is actually anything you order. The menu looks semi standard for a Chicago style eatery with a zillion (its a word trust me) choices. I had the cajun style kabob with fresh peppers which was something different and was wowed. It was over a bed of Jambalaya which was also an unexpected flavorful side dish. The chicken was juicy and charred as it should be. The prices are reasonable- I really need to go back to try other things-- maybe everything but it will take years with the choices they have! The dining room is truly like a patio with both indoor and outdoor seating and a very nice staff. Cleanliness is paramount here! Plenty of parking and options galore. Today was my second time eating at this restaurant and I gotta say, the quality of the food is pretty decent. On top of that, they provide a wide range of selection. For instance, they serve burgers, salad, ribs, fish, pasta, etc. I really like the interior design of this place. Very spacious on the inside and plenty of tables for the customers. One of my friends is obsessed with the chopped salad (with chicken) at this place. Every time we come here for dinner, she always ended up getting the same entree. The salad reminded me of Portillo's chopped salad. For my first visit, I ordered myself a half-roasted chicken and it was delicious. The chicken was cooked to perfection and the meat was tender. For my side dish, I got mac and cheese. Normally, I am not a big fan of mac and cheese, but I will make an exception for this place. Today was my second time and I got the pulled pork sandwich. I've been a fan of the Patio ribs for as long as I can remember, and while my experience this past weekend was not the greatest, I would still recommend them. These are not fall off the bone ribs - if that's what you're expecting. While in previous visits (over the course of my life), there was a lot of meat on the ribs, this past time on Saturday during lunch, they were definitely lacking. I still love the sauce and actually think it's one of my favorite around. It could also be that I'm just nostalgic for something I've loved since childhood. The ribs come with you choice of potato, cole slaw and bread. I got the french fries - which are always nice and tasty, and I also like the cole slaw there - not as mayonaissey - but with a little vinegar in it. My husband got the Srichacha Fajita Burger - which he thought was okay - but not the best burger around. It had a little too many ingredients on it - from the roasted chiles to the onions to the peppers. Everything just came sliding out. The menu has definitely expanded over the years and they seem to have something for everyone. I think the venue is really nice and we love the inside of the restaurant b/c it feels so light and airy with all the windows. I will come back again, but I think I might have to try something else besides my beloved ribs. I can always hope that it was just an off day for them b/c I can't believe after loving the place for close to 30 years that they would have changed their high standard of ribs. read more

Had a coupon on the phone for free side, no one understood how to validate it and managed who came to help was rude and like I was doing him a favor. We popped into Patio to pick up dinner to go so I really cannot say much about this specific location. However, I can tell you that the ribs are DELICIOUS and so worth a visit (if you've never been). Personally, I prefer the dry-rub (so I can dip them into the hot BBQ sauce) but the regular-style is also enjoyable. The sides as well are very tasty... really you just cannot go wrong. Additionally, we had a LARGE order (five full slab dinners + extra sides) and we only had to wait about 10mins - and this was during a normal dinner time. Our go to place! There is literally something for everyone! The expansive menu has plenty a delectable morsels to choose from. My most recent choice was the rib combo meal. (Half rack of baby back ribs, bbq chicken, choice of potatoes, Cole slaw, and French bread) $18.50. When you place your order they give you a number and bring it to your table. They have a drive thru and carry out available. I find the staff very helpful. Most often I am bringing food back to my family in central Illinois and they carefully pack it so it makes the journey well. They've also get a nice little dessert/bar section that's pretty popular as well. I tried this place out for the first time today and it was great! I haven't been here in a long time so we thought we'd give it a try. Basically it was quite disappointing. We ordered full slab of barbecue ribs and forgot that they are offered with sauce and dry. Of course we had wanted them dry and naturally they came sauced with terrible metallic raw tasting barbecue sauce. I can't believe they battled this crap. The other meal was salmon lemon herbed. That was very nice complete with crispy vegetables underneath they were a great surprise. I love the friendly staff here! Because of Covid I wasn't allowed to stay in the Emergency Room when I took a friend to Good Sam's. I ordered lunch and hung out here. They were so nice to me that I got in the habit of ordering before hospital visits so I could take BBQ to my friend in the hospital. Absolutely love this place. Very casual, fast but super delicious food. I love their pulled pork sandwiches. Their sampler mushroom and zucchini are really tasty. Their fries are good. I just really love this place and would choose it over most fast food places everytime! The staff is so friendly and outgoing it's refreshing, not like other fast food places.
