This is a pricier place in Austin but it's worth at least one visit imo. The food here and ambiance were really nice. We especially liked the mujadarra and the muhamarra, and the vegetarian curry. The drinks were okay, you can get better cocktails at Goldie's which is also in the proper. Service was decent but I felt I had to ask for water refills fairly frequently and someone in our group was flying in that night to join us for dinner and we told them 4 times to not clear the plate of the person that was about to join so I had to take off 1 star. read more

So as a Mediterranean food lover, I had to try a new spot. I know I know it's not really new anymore, but I'm a frequent visitor of Aba, and wanted to show my love elsewhere. So just like any popular spot in Austin, we couldn't get reservations because we decided the night before that this was where we were going. LoL When I called them they said that we could try to walk in, and if not we could always get seating at the lounge area which also serves the full dinner menu. Note to self: Don't depend on eating in the lounge, it was so packed and people were literally standing on top of each other with no room to move. I wouldn't have wanted to eat within that mix, with people breathing literally all over your food. No thank you! So I'd suggest the lounge area purely if you were looking to grab some drinks. Now for the food itself. We ordered the short rib hummus for a starter and the lamb chops for our meal which we shared. The meat on both was so tender and flavorful. We enjoyed them both very much. It is a great place for a special occasion or date night, but honestly I feel that it's a bit overpriced for the experience. I'd definitely come back for the food, but also think I might keep Aba as my first pick. The ambience and overall experience just lacked for me here. read more

Went here for my husband's birthday and absolutely enjoyed the food. Pros: each dish was bursting with flavor. Some dishes were slightly spicy and played well with the depth of garlic and bright citrus. All of the dipping sauces for the kebab platters tasted homemade and fresh. I loved the character in presentation as each kebab skewer looked slightly different than the other. The saffron rice was my favorite side and was very fragrant and yet mild in flavor, and no harissa was spared with the fries and aioli. Cons: when we arrived the hostess did not say hello nor did she smile at us when we checked in. If anything she appeared to be smiling prior to us checking in and affect went flat when checking us in. While this made us feel unwelcomed at first, the warmth of the waiting staff quickly overshadowed any doubt and our overall experience was great. I personally was not a fan of the cardamom honey on the baklava, it had a pumpkin spice flare that I personally didn't enjoy but if you like cardamom then I strongly suggest the baklava. The pudding dessert was definitely the star of the show. Overall, I highly recommend this restaurant. The ambiance and decor was beautiful, the wait staff were wonderful, and the food was excellent. There's also a valet parking option available for convenience. I'd come back for the cocktails and hummus alone. read more

Great evening at the Peacock -- the aesthetic atmosphere, Mediterranean details, and delicious mezze did it for me! Located inside the gorgeous Proper hotel, this was a perfect date night spot and service was great. The manti beef dumplings and beef short rib hummus are both a MUST. Dumplings are full of flavor and melt in your mouth. Hummus was smooth and creamy and made to perfection as was the pita. I'm craving the dumplings and hummus again as I'm typing this. For our main, we ordered the spicy lamb kefta. It was slightly tough and while still flavorful, it was clear the mezze was the star of the show! For our side, we got the potato and herb latkes with a dollop of labneh on top and these were tasty as well. The Bonfire on the Beach cocktail was a delicious mezcal concoction with charred grapefruit and za'atar on the rim. But was it worth $20? I wouldn't say so. For dessert I got a piece of baklava and although it was a one-bite dessert, it was delectable. The nuts, cardamom syrup, flakey pastry -- amazing and worth the $4 bite. Overall, I loved this spot and would return on occasion as it is overpriced -- or perhaps come back just for the dips & mezze! We were in austin for a bachelorette party and this place did not disappoint! The restaurant was aesthetically pleasing and the food was amazing. We ordered a chicken kebab plate and short rib hummus and they were both delicious. We've never had short rib hummus before and was pleasantly shocked that the two combination went really well. The short rib was so tender and just melted in your mouth. The chicken kebab plate was bigger than expected and was perfectly grilled! We enjoyed our time and had a lot of room despite how popular the restaurant was. We also asked to move tables to get a better view and they were kind enough to do so! Will be back next time we're in Austin. read more

I love that Austin has had quite a few Mediterranean restaurants open in the last few years. The Peacock is located in the Austin Proper Hotel and I envy the guests for being able to enjoy this amazing restaurant. I have been twice and both experiences were wonderful. In particular I enjoyed the hummus, the cocktails and the lamb. Our waiter was fantastic and was able to provide excellent advice on food selection. I will definitely be returning in the future. read more

Dinner at the Peacock Mediterranean Grill at the Proper Hotels in Austin with Mohnish Pabrai & Lyn, my Baby Doc Sis. My eyes glimmered with subtle excitement when I was told the choice of dinner this Saturday evening was "mediterranean", thinking kebabs are my fave food trip. I thought I was versed with this cuisine but little did I know that what I knew was just a scratch on the surface. I liked everything we ordered and my favorite was the Wood grilled Octopus, which is my goals if I go to Greece. However the Sticky Toffee Pudding was the champion of all. Oh well, I felt like Dora the Explorer for yet another food adventure. This is a posh place that I would have loved to give a 5 for good food and great food presentation if only the noise level is a tad lower. read more

The experience was hit or miss. Door and being seated were seamless and very well executed. The waiter was polite and professional. The misses: waiter either new or over worked. Not very attentive. When he did engage he was very good. Some of the items we ordered did not make it to the table until after and lengthy wait and our asking about them. Finally the food. Some items were very good. But the main items (lamb kabobs, and tenderloin kabobs) were unremarkable. The lamb tasted and had the texture of food that had spent too long under a warming light as it waited to be brought to the table. We went on a Wednesday evening. It was packed. Perhaps they are not used to that number of clients on a Wednesday and were short staffed. The elements to be a wonderful restaurant and experience appear to be in place and on a different day it might be. read more

I have eaten here two times in the last week and both experiences were very pleasant. The staff is great, very eager to please. We had the crispy shallot hummus, manti dumplings, grilled octopus and beef tenderloin and shrimp kebab served family style. These dishes must be the greatest hits as both times it was recommended to us by our server. The food is delicious! I kinda regret not trying something else but I always go off the server's recos. The patio has a great space with a nice breeze that comes through. However there are small round tables and I think they would be better off replacing with a rectangular table that would be more comfortable and fit all the food. I look forward to returning for brunch some time. read more

Our group of four had a reservation on a busy Thursday night. We began with the crispy shallot hummus, a delicious start, especially with the warm pita bread. For dinner, we tried the chicken thigh kebab, lamb kefta kebab, and chicken Tajine. The chicken thigh kebab was the clear winner, while the other dishes were decent. Came here on a Sunday afternoon and sat outside with a girlfriend. We loved the outdoor area but of course it got hot pretty quickly in the summer heat. The service was a bit slow and either too attentive or not attentive enough. When we were ready to check out, we went inside as it was so hot and it took a good 15 mins for someone to take our payment. Not sure if the waitress didn't notice we were gone or what. The Mezze plate was good but $22 for a scoop of hummus, babbaganoush, a piece of pita bread and smoked salmon seems like a bit over priced to me. Hotel prices, I guess. The waitress did bring water for a friend and his dog who stopped by for a moment which was very thoughtful. The indoor space is very well decorated and comfortable. On Friday night, I've heard it gets quite busy with young professionals. read more

To me, I think this is the best Mediterranean food in the city. I put it over ABA. This place is FANTASTIC. The ambiance is incredible. Beautiful no matter where you sit. But try to come on a cool night and sit outside. GET THE APPETIZERS. Every time I come, I stick to the appetizers. Best if you are on a date and you two split them. Get 4 or 5 of the appetizers and that's your meal. They are all 10 out of 10. read more

Overpriced and Underwhelming The staff at Peacock Restaurant was nice, and our waitress was very friendly, but this review isn't about them--it's about the ridiculous practices of restaurant owners trying to squeeze every penny out of customers. $8 for a so-called "NYC" bagel? First, this bagel was nowhere near a real New York bagel--maybe from Kansas or something. If you're going to charge eight bucks for a bagel and slap "NYC" on the menu, at least make it taste decent instead of like a bargain-bin piece of bread. Breakfast for two--a simple order of eggs, coffee, a bagel, and shakshuka--costs over $100. That's absurd. And to top it off, they added a wellness surcharge to the bill. Let's be clear: the cost of doing business is the owner's responsibility, not the customer's. Stop hiding these costs in sneaky fees and inflated menu prices. Again, this isn't about the service, which was great; it's about feeling exploited by yet another restaurant with sky-high prices and extra fees. Please save your money and go somewhere that respects its customers. read more

We live walking distance from The Peacock. We had some friends who were visiting from out of town so we decided to take them here since we walk by it all the time and it always looks so pretty from the outside. We were disappointed to learn that this place does not offer happy hour. We sat for dinner and ordered a bunch of different items on the menu. Definitely recommend doing family style here so that you can try a bunch of different dishes and share since everything is pretty expensive but small portions. We ordered: - Beef Short Rib Shwarma Hummus - Gulf Snapper Crudo - Wood Fire Grilled Octopus - Atlantic Salmon - Aleppo & Garlic Gulf Shrimp - Saffron Rice - Couscous - Asparagus Everything was pretty great overall! Service was attentive and made great suggestions for us based on the number of people we had and portion sizes. We had to order a lot since the portions were so small and we finished still feeling slightly hungry despite the amount of money we spent. Drinks were also okay, mostly for the aesthetic. Giving this place 4 stars because I liked it, but didn't love it and wasn't changed by it. Ambience is definitely super nice, it's a pretty cute place but I'd visit other spots before returning here since it's so pricey. read more

An "it" spot for an Austinite. If you're contemplating Mediterranean food with your friends or coworkers, this spot is the place. Very beautifully elegant on the inside with attentive waitstaff. The kebabs are a good portion with a beautiful char on the shrimp, but the item to die for is the octopus. Eaten like a steak, but wonderfully tender to the point where I had to write a review despite first trying it over a month ago. If there's anything to make sure to get, it's that. Although some people might not be dazzled by chicken, their yogurt marinated chicken thigh also pulls through as a great choice. Price sits anywhere around $50+ a person with an entree and smaller plate (choosing from tajine and mezze sections). Although the outside is open to the street, it's secluded enough to feel secure. However, the heat of Texas will probably warrant indoor reservations for most of the year. read more

Food was good, service was shit. Waited 10 minutes for a server to come by and when they did they asked "are yall ready?" We're not from Austin, why not tell us what you recommend or ask us if we've been here before. We ordered the Hawaii Chile Hummus. It was actually so yummy!!! Didn't get to order anything else bc he never recommended ANYTHING or asked if we would be getting meals. I guess we didn't look fancy enough to belong there. It was pretty frustrating and I wasn't about to beg for help in order to spend my money at a restaurant that obviously didn't want us there, so we left. Do better next time read more

We had high expectations for our meal at the Peacock, but they weren't fully met. We ordered the muhammara, which we've enjoyed at other places and also made at home. The muhammara here was creamy in texture, more like hummus, and the favor was muted. The mezze plate was all right as well, but didn't hit the spot; the flavors could have been richer. Bread was served warm, which was nice; service was good but a little slow when we visited, late afternoon. the stay was great , we had an issue on the third morning with the poached eggs and toast for breakfast, the eggs were hard instead of soft they took them away and I had to say please bring back a fresh plate with toast , the eggs then arrived on their own and I said I want them served with the toas , they were then served on a side dish at which point I went to the chef and asked for a large plate . Erica cam over she apologised and really looked after us not charging for breakfast, every interaction with her thereafter was excellent, this morning Mark came over to introduce himself and apologise for yesterday. Excellent dinner spot. Everything was on point from service, ambiance, and food. Tried a few different things, but what stood out to me was the octopus-- just incredibly fresh and perfectly cooked. I was also highly impressed with the wine selection, and the Somme (I believe his name was Ainsley or Ames? Something with an A) was SO AWESOME and had great recs. I would love to come back and sit on the beautiful wrap around patio when the weather cools down. Overall, an absolute Austin MUST! Kid friendly! This restaurant is beautiful--simply decorated, modern, earthy. Loved the ambiance, service, and food of course! Kids thoroughly enjoyed a cheeseburger and we had the yogurt marinated chicken kebab skewers which came with tzatziki, turmeric rice, hummus and Lebanese salad. The place is trendy and a comes across as upscale. We went for lunch during the week after seeing all the reviews. I was disappointed as we were looking for Mediterranean and this came up. Their menu had a limited selection of food. We were able to find hummus, by no gyros, Greek salad, or shawarma. The chicken wrap I selected was delicious but not worth the price. I'm sure the $37 plates would be filling. I just wish there's been more selections that were under $20 for lunch options. Despite the tasty food and adequate service (waiter came to check on us 1x after ordering), I wouldn't come back when there are so many other better places in Austin to choose from. read more

I have a severe dairy allergy and got the Peacock Brunch Burger. The fries were very good, but unfortunately, the burger gave me an allergic reaction. There was a questionable sauce and potato pancake on the burger, but the waitress assured me it was completely dairy free. If you have severe allergies to a very common ingredient, I would recommend brunch somewhere else. Our waitress was also a bit rude- we had a large group of people and every one of us thought she had a bit of an attitude. Everyone else in my group seemed to like their meals. read more

Fantastic experience -- phenomenal food, drinks, atmosphere, and service. The hummus and chicke n kebabs cannot be beat...truly the best hummus I've ever had. It's a great spot for two or three people, as most of the food is family style. The inside gets VERY loud, but the patio is lovely for those who like a quieter vibe. I have no words..but actually I do. This was an EXPERIENCE sprinkled with magical golden dust and good vibes all around. Truly feels like you are in another country when you sit down and eat here as the sun sets. The music, the servers, the all hands on deck approach, the attentiveness and professionalism--it all matters and adds to your meal. Let's just say, I didn't look like I belonged here but wow, I wasn't treated that way! It is pricey but 1,000% worth every penny because the quality is INSANE. You can tell each dish is made with so much love and intention. Your mouth with be in heaven with the explosiveness of flavors. I have eaten at many Mediterranean cuisines but this is hands down the best food I've ever had. The quality of the food is so top notch that it doesn't leave you feeling sluggish or over fed but perfectly nourished. You can't go wrong with whatever is on the menu. We went with one of the ginger infused mock tails, lamb chops, braised beef hummus, roasted carrots, dumplings, crème brûlée, baklava, pudding--ohhhhhh and the fresh pitaaaaa.. woooo it was all perfect sharing together with my friend! Service was slow. The waiter was very nice but took 45 min to check on me post appetizer to add on to my order. Dumplings were a delight. Speciality drink was strong and bitter but doable. Unfortunately, the experience was nothing like what I had seen from the pop-ups in other cities. The biggest disappointment was how little there actually was to the experience. The kitchen table wasn't even there. The girls famously gathered around that table eating cheesecake. There were no cheesecake props, which seemed like an obvious and essential part of The Golden Girls experience. Blanche's bedroom was completely outside in a completely different building, which made the whole setup feel disconnected. Even the wall phone, which was supposed to have the girls talking did not provide the experience I had seen from Instagram reels from other cities. Then came the cocktails. At $16 each, I expected them to at least be made correctly. My Blanche Devereaux cocktail was made with club soda instead of Sprite. Club soda tastes like Alka-Seltzer. I had to ask for a different drink. The second cocktail, The Dorothy, was made with Prosecco and unfortunately wasn't good either. Even the one lady sitting at this isolated bar with me said her drink was bad too. They double charged me. Which is another major issue. My ticket was $23.34 including taxes and fees and the complimentary drink was supposed to be included, with only a one-cent charge when I arrived. Instead, I was charged an additional $23.08, including $11.54 for the drink that was supposed to be included in the ticket price. Is there an explanation? Will this be corrected? My credit card company has already been notified. But what a hassle I have to go through. Just scan my QR code, and don't charge me .01 cent. I paid my ticket and "free" drink. Also as a solo guest, I was also extremely uncomfortable with where I was seated. I was placed away from everyone else at a very narrow bar along the wall, completely isolated from the rest of the group. Honestly, it felt like being sent to the kids' table at Thanksgiving--off in another room away from the adults. It was humiliating and made an already disappointing experience even worse. The entire experience amounted to roughly 15 minutes of taking a few pictures, drinking a poorly made cocktail, and leaving. For what I paid and what was advertised, I expected something much more immersive and fun. I couldn't wait to leave. Thank God I didn't pay for parking. I'm extremely disappointed. I went in excited to celebrate one of my favorite shows and left feeling like I had wasted my time and money. Based on this experience, I would not return to Wanderlust Wine Company.

I rarely leave negative reviews, but our experience at Peacock definitely deserved one. We had a reservation for 7:00 PM and still ended up waiting a full 30 minutes to be seated. What made it worse was the complete lack of communication--no updates, no explanation, not even a simple apology for the delay. Once we were finally seated, the service didn't improve. It felt unorganized and inattentive from start to finish. We had to wait far too long just to get water and place our order, and it seemed like no one was really keeping track of our table. By the time our food came out, the whole experience already felt frustrating. Overall, it was not worth the time or money. The long wait despite having a reservation and the poor service throughout made this visit really disappointing. I won't be returning anytime soon. read more

4 of us went for brunch on Sat. Made reservations a day before. Upon arriving, we were greeted and seated right away. Our server was very polite and helpful with menu since it was our first time. We order humus with black garlic which was amazing along with hot beverages. The hot beverages were tad on luke warm side. Each one of ordered our dish, spicy lamb kebab, lamb meatball and egg dishes and french toast which were amazing. Smoked salmon dish were ok though.
