My best friend and I ordered the catfish, collard greens, yams, macaroni and cheese, red Kool-Aid, strawberry cake, and lemon cake so we could sample a little bit of everything. Every single item was absolutely phenomenal. The food was seasoned to perfection, and you could truly taste the love that went into every dish. The cornbread deserves its own review! It was soft like a piece of cake, perfectly sweet, and practically melted in my mouth. I took one bite, and it made my toes curl! There was a bit of a wait for our food, but coming from Los Angeles, I know that when you're waiting, it's usually because your food is being prepared fresh. It was well worth the wait. Everything tasted authentic, homemade, and like true Southern soul food. The atmosphere was just as wonderful as the food. It was warm, cozy, laid back, and welcoming. The music was pleasant, the décor was beautiful, and the entire restaurant had an inviting energy that made us want to stay. My best friend and I sat at the bar near the entrance so we could take in the whole room, and I absolutely loved the ambiance. The staff was exceptional. Everyone was kind, personable, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. They checked on us throughout our meal to make sure we had everything we needed, and the customer service was truly top-tier. I especially want to recognize the young lady who was back there preparing the food. Hats off to the cook--chef's kiss! This was easily one of the best soul food meals I've had in my lifetime. To finish the meal I did order the lemon pound cake but they ran out of that so they sent me the strawberry cheesecake cake. The shrimp were good and hot! Maybe these owners are from Louisiana because the shrimp had that slow heat that creeps up on you the same way Louisiana cuisine does. So Yummers! That shrimp was plump, very very well cooked, and didn't need a condiment. They were really good, very tasty! I would definitely order again! The Mac and cheese was just okay. It either needed something or didn't need something but I just know it wasn't the best. However it was edible and had a decent flavor. The candied yams were very good. They hit all the points of candied yams without being cloyingly sweet. Very tender with the cinnamon glaze. Yummers! Now, I definitely wanted to try the lemon pound cake but they ran out so I got the strawberry cheesecake cake and that was definitely top tier! It was moist and very delicious. Not too sweet. I usually order a 10 wing combo with half hot and half lemon pepper. The hot sauce - imagine hot sauce with seasoning mixed in; the lemon pepper sauce - imagine a wet (versus a dry rub) tangy lemon pepper sauce. They keep seasonings and ketchup at the counter to add to your fries before you leave. I also had peach drink. It was good! But, again...just sugary, peach flavored drink. The guy at the counter was completely unfriendly...which is consistent with the ADs in Atlanta. I actually tried to engage him in friendly conversation by saying, "smile".
