Everything here is absolutely amazing. The poke was like butter! The honey glazed wings, we came back a second time for round 2. The dynamite shrimp were bursting with flavor. Shrimp tacos delish! Boca rota is a must order. And the hobo binets were sooo so good. I will add that on our second visit we also ordered the angry Hawaiian pizza with kalua pig (honey on za has always been a win for us), unfortunately it was very lackluster. Premade crust which was soggy and not just in the middle, the whole pizza was a drippy droopy mess. Plus in an area where your food needs to stand out to survive, this just wasn't cutting it. This place hit the spot! It was the end of the day, and we just wanted to grab a quick bite before heading to home. I asked a local where he would choose to eat if he can go anywhere, and he chose the Pupu House. We ordered, and the meals came out quick! The garlic shrimp...we had to order a second plate. I'm a big fan of Uncle Bo's, so when I heard he opened up a place in Waikīkī, I had to stop by. TPH is on Lewers, just North of Kalākaua. We already had dinner, so we opted for dessert. The taro beignets a la mode hit the spot. They were light & airy, crispy and paired well w/ the Frangelico honey sauce and ice cream. Regarding the ambiance, its tiki bar in here. TPH has a lot of bar food (pupus), that I will have to return for. Our waiter Zach was super nice, and the beignets came out quickly. I think Uncle Bo's has three other places besides TPH. I also saw how enthusiastic local vloggers Amanda and Felix were about the food on YouTube. Jamie W. and I were not so impressed, and it may be a case of bad timing. I forgot I had this draft in there... My sister wanted to try this spot because we were walking around Waikiki looking for a new place to try for her last day there. We wanted to celebrate our friend's wedding a little longer and this was just a short walk from their hotel at embassy suites. This was actually the first place I stopped (after our hotel) when I was in Honolulu for a couple days on vacation last month - mainly because I'd never had saimin, theirs was highly rated, and it was listed as being on happy hour. Unfortunately, it turned out they'd removed it from their happy hour menu literally a few days before we got there - it is still a solid, though small happy hour menu, though (this review assumes you get there between 5-7 like we did.) We obviously still had to get the saimin, which at $20, I'd say was enjoyable but not nearly as recommendable as if it'd been half off (still arguably worth it, though). The pot stickers definitely wouldn't be worth $13, but during happy hour, definitely *were* worth 6.25 - they're nothing special, but they were perfectly crispy and entirely enjoyable pot stickers. The pork fried rice, though, is the reason I'd recommend everyone come here, though, food-wise - it's 8.25 for a whole *bunch* of fried rice, its great fried rice and with plenty of great pork. If I lived in the area, I'd probably be there all the time for that. Well, that and their happy hour drink prices - partially in that they have a rotating local craft hard cider for $7 (during happy hour - normally 9), partially in that they have $8 hh lycheetinis. While that basically just means well vodka and lychee juice, it's *hard* to find good lychee juice, and it is good lychee juice. (We were actually there here the following night, just for a couple more lycheetinis, cause $8 is a pretty good price for cocktails in Waikiki!) The vibe of the place is definitely just "generic overpriced tourist bar" (the one thing we didn't like: their taste in very mediocre mainstream 90s pop music, played slightly too loudly) - but the happy hour is very worth it. OH MY GASTRO!! We just happened upon The Pupu House at Happy Hour. Yes, it was nice to have a discount for drinks and food but to be honest, the food is absolutely worth paying full price for! Staff was super rude and threatening. I have a chronically illness that causes me to have seizure episodes. The staff was threatening to throw out myself and my wife because I was about to have a seizure episode and said that they didn't care about my health condition. I was literally in the corner of the bar away from all the other guests to not cause any disturbances and the staff was still extremely hostile. If they would've forced me to leave at that moment, I would have had a seizure right then and there because they were more worried about their reputation, instead of someone's health.
