    Enjoyed their pizza
    Michele O.

This place hit the spot! It was the end of the day, and we just wanted to grab a quick bite before heading to home. I asked a local where he would choose to eat if he can go anywhere, and he chose the Pupu House. We ordered, and the meals came out quick! The garlic shrimp...we had to order a second plate. Crispy, and tangy, over a bed of greens, soo good! The coconut shrimp was over the top too! Mann, I must've been hungrier than I thought! This came with a sweet sauce and the shrimp size was nice and big. And how about some pizza? Their Pepperoni pizza is delicious!! And this is how we roll! A couple pounds extra, but it hit the spot perfectly.

Singer doing some great mellow tunes.

What a great mellow pace. I stopped in before the rush and was created like an old friend. Later it got busy, bit still I was not neglated. Drinks are well mixed the staff friendly, the singer does a great set. I highly recomm

I'm a big fan of Uncle Bo's, so when I heard he opened up a place in Waikīkī, I had to stop by. TPH is on Lewers, just North of Kalākaua. We already had dinner, so we opted for dessert. The taro beignets a la mode hit the spot. They were light & airy, crispy and paired well w/ the Frangelico honey sauce and ice cream. Regarding the ambiance, its tiki bar in here. TPH has a lot of bar food (pupus), that I will have to return for. Our waiter Zach was super nice, and the beignets came out quickly. I think Uncle Bo's has three other places besides TPH. Hats off to him for being a successful restauranteur in a tough market.

Sorry to report this was a marginally disappointing experience given the advance praise I read about this spot here on Yelp. I also saw how enthusiastic local vloggers Amanda and Felix were about the food on YouTube. Jamie W. and I were not so impressed, and it may be a case of bad timing. First off, while the place is listed as a tiki bar, it was really a sports bar. We found this out firsthand because the place was packed with football fans watching the Niners. We were relegated to the one hi-top table with no view of the big screens. However, that didn't preclude us from the crowd noise accompanying the game. Jamie was good and nursed a Diet Coke, but I went for the $18 Tropical Itch properly named for the complimentary back scratcher (photo: https://yelp.to/1mWLDCmkrC). It consisted of a potent mix of High West Bourbon, Jameson Orange, lilikoi, mango, lemon, and a dark rum float topping (photo). We ordered what was the subject of adulation in the video, the $27.95 Boca-Rota, chopped prime rib sautéed with mushrooms in creamy chili aioli with garlic 'cheesy' bread (photo: https://yelp.to/gtPwe_ESdZ). Sounded tasty, but the execution was off. It honestly tasted like it was assembled a while ago and reheated, especially the bread which was excessively chewy, and the prime rib chunks were overshadowed by the cheese. The other two dishes we ordered were off their Happy Hour menu. Stuffed with pork and minced vegetables and fried liberally in oil, the $6.25 Crispy Potstickers were kinda generic (photo: https://yelp.to/M-72n8HFXq). The remaining dish was the $8.25 Kalua Pig Fried Rice, probably the most satisfying of our trio of plates with the rice wok-fried in garlic, spinach, grilled onions, and bits of pig (photo: https://yelp.to/3WoEl2B_IL). Happy Hour is definitely the time to go for bargain priced bar bites. Service was rather spotty because of the constant demands of the beer-swilling crowd, so we didn't begrudge the server. FOOD / DRINKS - 3 stars...strong cocktails and cheap Happy Hour prices but the food execution was lacking AMBIANCE - 3 stars...sports bar masquerading as tiki SERVICE - 3 stars...spotty TOTAL - 3 stars... I ain't trying to pooh-pooh the pupus here RELATED - Exploring Hawaii? Here's a collection of places I've visited and reviewed: https://bit.ly/3Kz5ksc

    Pipikaula Short Ribs

I forgot I had this draft in there... My sister wanted to try this spot because we were walking around Waikiki looking for a new place to try for her last day there. She saw the word Pupus and got excited so we, a party of 10, walked in and were lucky to get seated. The place is definitely made to look like a tiki, shipwreck bar. The place was decorated with all kinds of things like fish nets, puffer fish, surfboards, etc. I thought it definitely hit the hawaii tourist vibes. It took awhile for our food to come to us but maybe it was because they wanted to bring it all out at the same time. So we ordered drinks, of course. They were boozy as hell. Which definitely made it worth it. My sister got the chicken wings, I had the Pipikaula Ribs, my mom had the Chinese style fish and my GF had the Smoked Meat. I don't know what the rest of the party had but it looked good. I will say, when my sis and I saw the Chinese style fish we looked at each other and laughed. Usually the Chinese style steamed fish is...steamed, (whole fisfillet) with a pour over of oil and shoyu or ponzu. The fish that was set down in front of us was dry and caked with seasoning. When our Mom came back from the bathroom, she was just as surprised. My sister's chicken wings were salty and a little dry. I think they banked on their boozy drinks to make their food taste good. My GF's smoked meat was good. It was cooked perfectly. I think our dishes just missed the cut.

Adorable and well priced place in Waikiki. Hidden gem. $7 Bartenders choice cocktails available til 7pm !! Love this spot! Had the pleasure of meeting Nick, as he took care of us. You must take advantage of their Happy Hour! We ordered edamame and pot stickers and they were perfect! We paired them with coconut margaritas, but you also have other options. Would definitely come back!

We wanted to celebrate our friend's wedding a little longer and this was just a short walk from their hotel at embassy suites. The hostess was so helpful asking how many we were expecting and was able to accommodate our walk in of up to 15 people that slowly came they reserved more tables. Upon arriving there was live music and ambiance was nice. Not too loud and not too dark. Food was yummy and comparable to other uncle bo's establishments which we were familiar with. We got the pepperoni fries, spinach avocado dip. They have a happy hour and reverse happy hour that started at 10pm. This is the old moose's mcgilly cuddy's and they kept some of the drink items and also the big moose head is on the wall for those that can appreciate the nostalgia. When we left looked like there was a nightclub upstairs, kiki's if you needed some extra dance/drinking to do. But we enjoyed this spot especially for locals looking for a spot to dine and drink in waikiki

potstickers, dynamite shrimp ( a little too gloppy ) and perfect sliders.
    Karen P.

A good little stop for a drink, pupus and live music.. Lucky for us the place was not busy on a Tues night.. we just missed the first happy hour which ended at 7pm. Uncle Bo is popular for his spin on local food and for some unique creations. Not hungry enough for his famous Boca Rota cheesy, meaty bread, and yet had room for 3 mini sliders, dynamite shrimp, and pot stickers. Eating light. Burgers were well prepared, quality beef, toasted sweet rolls...shrimp and potstickers were good, pretty standard fare. Service was fast, server friendly, altho a little distracted and slow with the check. Love the musician celebrating his grandmas bday..

Pipikaula short ribs, served with a spicy sauce and marinated onions. Yum!
    Anissa R.

Gotta love me some pupu! After seeing several YouTube reviews for The Pupu House, we had to stop by! This is a MUST for happy hour! We popped in real quick for a nibble of their pipikaula short ribs (not HH special) and a drink (HH lychee-tiki & HH draft pour of lilikoi cider). We loved it! It does give a touristy-trap vibe but the snacks and drank delivered! Staff were friendly, music was great, and the overall environment was fun! Highly recommend!

    Poutine fries. So good.
    Tony H.

One of the few places in Waikiki beach that was open late night mid week that was still serving food. We got to Hawaii around 9pm on a Thursday. Pretty much all the resort restaurants were already done serving food at this time so we made our way over to Pupu House after one of the resort employees recommended. The food hit the spot, they even had a late night happy hour with drink and food specials.

    Paulina A.

The Pupu House is a great place to stop by for light bites and cocktails! It has a Tiki bar theme and we really enjoyed Karaoke night and watching the performers. So fun and entertaining! The staff was all very nice and friendly and the ambiance is laidback, island casual. The food was not mouthwatering but it was satisfying. I enjoyed the guava cocktail for happy hour! Come here for post-dinner drinks at happy hour. You won't regret it!

This was our last night here in Oahu. I wanted to do something special, we had gone twice to Duke's…read morerestaurant and enjoyed it but wanted to do something different. Chat gpt recommended this place and I have to say the AI was right! The place is really fun. You can park downstairs and they valet Park you and they will stamp you for free parking. The atmosphere is a fun vibe. They had live music. It's a indoor outdoor place. One thing to note, they don't serve their lunch menu after 4:00 so we went there expecting burgers and they don't serve them. So we kind of stayed reluctantly. I ended up ordering the guava ribs and my wife got them too. Those had to be the best ribs I think I have ever had! They literally fall off the bone as you're trying to pick up the meat. One of the reasons we wanted to go here was we wanted the options of seafood but one of our adults doesn't like seafood and they said that they had all kinds of stuff, which they do. Our server Maka, was incredible. He brings us out a free appetizer and said that was from the chef. I don't know if it was the chef or him but I was impressed and it was good. It was some kind of little fried dumpling. It was awesome! One of the people in our party had thought he was not going to order something and I gave him one of my ribs and after he tasted it, suddenly he wanted some too. I grabbed Maka and asked him If he could get those ribs fast because the rest of us were already halfway through our meals. He got right on it and had that order in. The ribs came out just in time and everybody was happy. It ended up being one of the nicest meals that we had the whole week. We were here and it was a great way to end our vacation here in Hawaii.

Completely overrated. This place is definitely turned into a tourist trap…read more We went to Tiki's years ago and it was absolutely fantastic! We were dying to go back this trip and sad to say, we left disappointed. The whole vibe changed from a fun Hawaiian restaurant to a yuppie upscale restaurant... however they still have the live music, which was a nice. The atmosphere was nice too. The menu items were minimal and surprising to us, none looked appealing. We did get a couple of appetizers, which were good... and a few samplers from the chef which were the best thing we had. But overall, is was a waste of money - and a lot of it!- I will share a positive though, the crème brûlée served in the bottom of a pineapple was delicious! It had a tangy, sweetness of pineapple that was delicious, as well as beautiful! Overall, not the same Tiki's. We did eat at food trucks and little hole in the wall places that had food that was better. Skip the bougie restaurants and go straight to the food trucks and little restaurants. Tip: ask the locals were the good food is. They will tell you it is for sure not at restaurants like these.... We asked.

When you come through the beach, you have the option of dining at the bar, which seems to be a totally different experience. The bar serves burgers and other bar foods, and we wanted something a little less casual. After entering through the bar, we ended up having to go to the desk inside. They added my name and took down my phone number to text when the table is ready. This place is huge. There is indoor seating with lots of grass "skirt" trim around some of the ceiling and bars, and the upholstery of the dining chairs are different colorful aloha prints. On the deck there are think torches and umbrellas and string lights. On the level just a few steps down are more umbrella tables and some musicians playing Hawaiian music. All around are photos of the famous Olympic champion, surgery, and actor Duke Kahanamoku. Much to my surprise, as I was looking around while waiting for a table, a girl asked if I was Denise. They didn't text me; rather, they jot down a brief description so they can just look around and find you. She sat us on the beach deck. Our server was fantastic, so friendly with lots of explanations and recommendations. They use an ordering system and it's fun like a week liked machine. Hubby's beer was delivered to our table before our server even walked away! We both ordered the teriyaki sirloin steak with mashed potatoes. It. Was. Freaking. Delicious. I was full, but couldn't stop eating because it was so good. Dukes is really a place where you know you are in Hawaii--the decor, the food, the music, the friendly service.
