My in-laws live in Tucson, whenever we come visit from out of state we ALWAYS come here for the tacos. They are amaaaazing!! We are a military family and have lived all over the US and I can't find anything this good or fresh anywhere. I don't have a favorite taco, they're ALL delicious. I read about the Quesadilla on the Eater website and it listed the Quesadilla as one of the "essential Tucson" restaurants. Boy were they right. This place is such a hidden gem. The food is so incredibly delicious and so incredibly reasonably priced I don't know how there is not a line around the block for this place. The staff is super friendly, come on Tucson, get over to the Quesadilla ASAP. I got the Al Pastor Quesadilla 3 out of 4 nights in a row I was in Tucson for work... Oh and I was working on a food network show, so I would hope I know a thing or two about delicious food when I have some. This establishment is a true hole in the wall. But don't let the outside fool ya. The ladies at the register are down right beautiful along with their customer service. Both my hubby & I had the lunch special which included your choice of 2 tacos & 1 quesadilla. I had the asada & pork while my husband had the pork & barbacoa. The tacos were nicely adorned with our choice of meat, certainly didn't disappoint. The quesadillas were nicely filled as well but not overly done in their homemade flour tortillas which were also very tasty. I was recommended the pineapple salsa for my pork taco but I'm not a fan of sweet salsas. But I had to try and seriously it was very good as it wasn't very sweet and it did have a little bite to it. She was patient and kind. She even brought my order outside to me. (The loop on my mask broke and I am not comfortable entering establishments unmasked. She did not know this but I am extremely thankful to her for bringing my order out.) Thirdly, whomever was in the back making the magic happen. THANK YOU!! Everything was full of flavor. The meat was melt-in-your mouth tender. The compote was delicious. (Yes, I drank what remained. This is a judgement free zone.) The salsas were the perfect complement. But here is what surprised me the most... After driving 25 minutes back to my resort, the cheese in the birria tacos were still hot enough to produce a lovely cheese pull. I assumed it was a "mostly lunch" type of place, which is fine. Within ten minutes more than a dozen people arrived in five or six separate groups. I must have just arrived at a lull. It's been awhile since I've had an experience where I had to write about the experience right away, but this place is it. My family had chicken quesadillas and I had the Carne Asada quesadilla. These were easily the best quesadillas we had had in both California and Arizona. The meats have a wonderful grilled flavor that is a nice medley of flavor from the first bite that you notice. This is also present, but not as strong chicken. The tortilla is fresh and a little thinner than I am used to, but that and the ingredients taste very fresh. Quesadillas are meat and cheese only, but there is a wonderful fresh bar in the restaurant with a wonderful selection of sauces, peppers and garnishes, wider than im used to at other places. This place has one of the BEST Quesadillas I have had in a long time. Chicken bacon green chile has some much flavor. OMG- The Quesadillas is Seriously good! We ordered the chicken bacon quesadilla special, taco jaas, taco Barbados, mesquite steak taco ... Every one was served quickly, full of flavor, pretty as a picture ... and THEN, you get to run over the top with a fire-roasted chile salsa , or some kind of escabeche- style salsa with complex flavors and picante ... really, simple, satisfying, so reasonable -and so friggin' good ... this reminds me why Tucson is home... a slice of heaven. My family loves Mexican food, but I usually steer clear because I don't eat cheese or flour. I figured I'd just ask if these guys could accommodate me...and they did! The carne asada meat and mushrooms were delicious piled high with red onions, pico de gallo, and guacamole. My family gobbled up their quesadillas. My husband had a steak quesadilla and said it made his body tingle -- it was that good! My daughter said she loved her chicken quesadilla.
