This was the first time at their new location. Looks good! The food as usual was great. The service was fantastic. The server was enthusiastic about everything we ordered which was awesome. I wish we got her name. She was the only server on the patio at 11am on Canada Day. Wait - bill says 'Megan'. I have been there many times. Their pancakes are my favourite. The bbq beef brisket is also great, tender and moist. The only thing make it not perfect is because of too much bbq sauce. If I order again, I will request lighter sauce. Their sausages are served as form of patty, not links. If you don't like toasts for your regular breakfast, you could substitute with a pancake. It was a packed Saturday, and plan A- Yama Cafe- was closed because of the holidays. Suddenly, I realized that despite having previously lived in the area for a year, my boyfriend and I still haven't paid a visit to the Red Wagon. Sure enough, it was packed when we got there. A friendly waitress quickly put us on the list and we got a table after 10 min or so. The wait for the food was a bit long, but this was understandable given the crowd. Boyfriend ordered a Breakfast Bahn Mi with pork belly while I settled for the Eggs Benedict with smoked salmon. I wanted to grab a Mimosa as well, but decided not to. Next time, for sure! My eggs benny was phenomenal. The eggs were perfectly poached, hollandaise creamy and rich, and the salmon and arugula rounded out the entire dish. I loved the homefries as well. I could have easily eaten another side of it, haha! I had a bite of my boyfriend's sandwich without the meat, and I can confirm that it was just as good as the subs you find in Vietnamese restaurants- if not better. * Hipster diner * A diner for hipsters. It has all of the feel of a classic diner, including the menu written with what looks like an old typewriter. The items on that typewritten menu have a bit of a modern twist to them, and the customer base seals the hipster deal. That said, the service was extremely friendly and VERY attentive. While they weren't a wisecracking middle aged waitress ala Flo (bonus points if you get the reference), they were polite and very attentive. The pulled pork sandwich was served on a nice Portuguese bun, and had good flavours (although I would have preferred a bit of a smoke flavour as I think they likely just stewed the pork with a nice BBQ sauce). A must-eat if you're in Vancouver! I'm so glad my cousins took us here during our visit. The 7 of us came on a Monday around 2, and there was no wait. Holy bombshell! I waited in line for 45 minutes here with bae on a holiday morning. While waiting, we wandered over to Platform 7 Coffee Roasters, just across the street, but even when we came back, we waited for another 15 minutes to get seated. Well, let me say that this is (A) a lot of food and (B) the most satisfying breakfast or brunch that you will ever have! The buttermilk pancakes were thick, fluffy, but not too sweet. So, everything that you want your pancakes to be. The pulled pork was on the sweeter side so it complemented the pancakes well. The toast was... toast. The scrambled eggs were... scrambled eggs. Worth the hour wait on a Saturday at 11:30am? Yes. But I was mentally prepared thanks to all of you yeeps. May this be a lesson to us all - waiting for a good thing is a-ok - when you're ready. BE READY. What I wasn't prepared for (and what I'm sure staff weren't expecting)... the freakishly frequent electrical failures that plagued my dining experience. Everyone from the servers to the customers were in good spirits about the ordeal, but I did have to be on my best behaviour about it. The electrical failure meant no coffee. An hour wait, coffeeless, and a coffeeless breakfast? Draw a sad face in my yolks :( It could have gotten really, really ugly... But none of that really mattered after the first few bites of the daily special: pastrami hash topped with poached eggs and hollandaise. Oh, hells yes. I won't go into every mouthwatering detail, because who knows when it will grace the menu again, but I ordered wisely. Pulled pork pancakes and Jack Daniels maple syrup are standard fare at The Red Wagon and with that you can mark my words, I'm heading back. What a fantastic little East Van diner! For the longest time this place was "Kings Cafe" but I had recently noticed that it is now "The Red Wagon". We stopped in one afternoon for a late breakfast and were shown to what seemed to be the only clean table by a friendly waitress. There was only one other customer in there but they had apparently just had a big rush so the place was a bit disorderly. Even though I was hesitant to pay $2.50 for diner coffee I'm glad I did! It was delicious Saltspring coffee not the cheap, burnt tasting garbage I was expecting. Bottomless too! Being somewhat of a greasy breakfast connoisseur I decided to go with the Two Eggs Any Style, because let's be honest, if you can't do that right you shouldn't be cooking food. Period. Everything was pretty good. The bacon was kind of burnt/ crispy (some people like that) and the home fries a tad undercooked but nothing significant enough to ruin my meal. I also had a side of sausages because I love to eat and always order way more food than I actually need. They were PERFECT and there were SIX of them. Pretty rad for a $3.00 side. My boyfriend had the Piperade and Goat Cheese omelette. He said it was the best omelette he'd EVER had and I'm willing to take his word for it considering he didn't say a single word to me the whole time he was eating. Always a long wait at this popular breakfast spot but what made the wait worth it was the hot sugar coated homemade donuts that we got to sample while in line outside. Thankfully, because it was just the two of us we were seated a lot quicker than larger groups. I had the smoked salmon scramble which was yummy although it was similar to something I make at home. The hubby went with the super trucker and thoroughly enjoyed his breakfast as well. There was an option for $3 extra for the JD spiked syrup which was essentially maple syrup spiked with Jack Daniels. "Indulgent" is the perfect word to describe this place. Some of the items on the menu are just downright sinful. First off, you have pulled-pork pancakes. Next, there is the Croque Monseiur, a sandwich that has a creamy, cheesy sauce on top with a fried egg. This sandwich is very very heavy and filling. It is tasty, but I have trouble finishing it because it is so rich. There is also the Croque Madame, which is similar. Moreover, they make their own chips and fries. I enjoy the food. It is definitely comfort. My rating is a bit low because I can't get over the service. It is super slow. It takes a really long time to get the food, and the waitresses are not attentive enough to make the wait tolerable. The food itself is good, but inside, I feel I might be able to create just as sinful a sandwich at home for a quarter of the price; not to mention, I wouldn't have to wait forever to get it. The burgers are FAR too greasy, the buns are practically non-existent, and the cheese is lackluster at best. -The onion rings are completely tasteless. The batter is pretty much flour, water, and salt - and nothing else. -In this day and age, charging for refills is just stupid. -The restaurant can't decide what it is. It's got full menus for a burger joint, a breakfast place, and a Mexican restaurant. It's a bit schitzophrenic, and there's just no way a place with this many entrees can do them all well. I was really satisfied with the brunch options here, and the one I finally settled on. I had the pulled pork Banh Mi, which was filling and tasty. The portion was big, so I had to take half to go. The place has wifi which is great for when you're waiting for the food to arrive. Now to get to the good part, namely the food. First off if you're here and you have the option get the potatoes over the fries. These potatoes are amazing! The sandwich itself was pretty damn good. Nothing mind blowing unlike the potatoes. All in all the place is above average. Good food, friendly staff, average diner coffee (hot, strong, in good amount), oh and wifi is always a plus. The only reason it's not getting 5 stars is because it smells slightly funny here. Then again maybe it's just because it's a rainy day. 4/5 worth the 40min public transport journey on a rainy day. The food was ok, but based on the horrible experience I had with the service, I am never going back. I was seated a full 5 minutes before this other couple even came into the restaurant and were seated next to us by the same guy. They were asked right away whether they wanted a menu. We had been waiting for 5 minutes and had to ask the guy on the way back to get us our menus. After quickly deciding on what to eat, we waved down a server but she said that our own server will take our order, which is fine. I waved down our server and when she finally came, she actually walked around us to go to the the other couple first, who were FURTHER AWAY from her before coming back to take our order. When our drinks finally came, she put all our drinks on a tray and again, walked to the further table with a tray full of drinks instead of dropping off ours first (seriously this had to be intentional to some degree because why would anyone take a full tray further than they had to when they can make it easier by dropping off half of the content first), and then proceeded to even get that wrong by giving our drinks to the other couple. Then she proceeded to give us waters, and the exact same thing happened. Then because she took the order first from the couple that came later, our food literally did not come until they had FINISHED THEIR FOOD. They were also asked how they were doing within 5 minutes of getting their food, and at least 2 times after that (I noticed because obviously I still had not gotten my food and was getting bored and annoyed), while we were asked only when we were basically finished. So basically I came before this other couple and did not get our food before they finished theirs. The only reason I could think of for all of this was that I looked like I wouldn't tip as much. Let's be real, Asians on average probably don't tip as much (I myself usually tips 15-20% depending on service though), so this is honestly not the first time I got shafted on service (this has happened enough times for me to think that this is not a one-off). However, I've never had an experience as blatant as this, and I've never had a meal where I was actually pissed off at the service, because I see that they actually DO provide good service to others, like the other couple. All in all, think before you go in, and if you're Asian, think about whether you care about the service first. read more

Quality breakfast menu with different specials each week. Good serving size with very good quality food. Everything is cook perfectly with really good pricing to match (approx. $13). The only drawback is that the space is tight due to high volumn of people. Great food, great service, and nice decor. The breakfast is worth lining up for and this place always seems to be buzzing.
