I've never been compelled to write a Yelp! review, but after my experience at The Right Touch, I feel I need to let y'all know how my trip here went. So here goes my first review. To start off, I purchased a coupon from kgb deals - $18 for $60 mani/pedi. This nail salon is run by one person, Ruth. Booking an appointment was pretty difficult. I'm sure this was because she recently did a daily deal and everyone was trying to get in to use their coupons. There is a parking lot, validated for one hour, after that it's $1/half hour. Walking into her salon, I was very excited about the services I was to receive; everything looks very warm and welcoming. She had me pick out colors right away, but the lighting made it pretty difficult to see all the different shades. I had an idea of the color I wanted, usually when I ask the nail technicians for help, they are eager to suggest and search for something I may like. After asking her, she only pointed to some addition places she had polishes and told me to take a gander. In addition to not being too helpful, I was waiting for quite awhile before my service began. Not that I had a lot going on, but my parking minutes were ticking!! As for the services, they started off great. Ruth is a great conversationist; very fun and easy to hold a conversation with. But then the nail clipping began, she " accidentally" cut off a HUGE chunk of my pinky toenail. Immediately, I squealed, so she asked if it hurt. I mean, she cut the nail to the root and ripped, of course it hurt! F-ing OWW!! Even after she did this, the same thing happened to my pinky toenail on my other foot. Wait, really?!?! Now that I was missing pieces from both my pinky toenails, we moved onto my hands. She rushed through my mani, probably because she had what seemed like a long time client waiting for her. Attached pictures show results of her haste work on my fingers. There were parts of my nail that were missing polish and the polish that should have ended up on those areas ended up on my cuticles. In addition, she didn't at all clip/clean up my cuticles too much. You can also see in my photos the excess skin on the sides of my fingers. In conclusion, I think its bogus that her mani/pedi's are normally $60. I would be throwing even bigger fits if I paid anything more than $18. Unless, she gives higher paying clients better service than those that bought a coupon. In which case, these coupon deals are a chance for these small businesses to gain potential clients and build their book of business. If you don't give us a good impression, what reason do we have to come back? My suggestion, go to one of those Asian nail salons. Yes, they might talk about you in a language you most likely don't understand or not talk to you at all, but they do a good job and you get your money's worth. read more

I am a huge fan of deals and trying new things, I love groupon and yelp and go daily deals because they help me learn about smaller businesses in the area and help promote the smaller businesses. This is one business I would highly suggest ALL yelpers to stay away from. Not only is the location "dingy, small and unsanitary-looking" as my mom said, but the service is incredibly unprofessional. I purchased a coupon for $17 and, as Michelle said before me, had a difficult time scheduling an appointment (I called at the end of October and the first appointment I could get was December 10th, that's ridiculous). The story: The woman who runs this business, Ruth, is both unprofessional and rude. I knew I could not make the scheduled appointment as I had a lesson that I couldn't miss. So, knowing how difficult it had been to schedule this initially, I gave the coupon to my mom so that she could enjoy it. She was excited at this "early Christmas gift" but left a bit late so I called to let Ruth know that I couldn't make it because I was stuck in traffic (I didn't want to blame it on my mom) and she said that she could move it to a time in January but that I would have to pay a $20 late fee for rescheduling. At this point, I didn't know if my mom was going to make it on time so I rescheduled. Then I thought about it a bit more and realized that $20 extra is more than the cost of my coupon. That's ridiculous, why would I do that and how does that make this a deal? So I called her back literally one minute after hanging up with her and she didn't answer so I left a message on her voice mail letting her know that my mother was the individual who was going to be going but she would be late since she was still driving there. When my mom arrived ten minutes late, Ruth told her that she hadn't received my voice mail, didn't know that it was going to be my mom and not me, and could not take her. My mom offered to wait or to have Ruth do half the service or whatever would fit into the appointment that was left. Instead she said "no, I have someone in an hour and I am now working on someone else." She was very short to my mom and refused her service so I gave Ruth a call after my lesson an hour later. Ruth answered my phone call this time and proceeded to rudely say that "she doesn't check her voice mail every second of the day" and "as I have said, I have a wait-list of ten people per appointment so it's not surprising someone else walked in" which I questioned since, first of all, she had NOT told me about this wait-list nor did this "wait-list" have anything to do with this individual who walked in. She also tried to get me off the phone quite a few times telling me "I am still with a customer right now," as if my questions concerning the treatment of my mother in her place of business were not important. The Spark Notes/Moral: This is not a business that I would suggest in any way, shape, or form, unless you like being treated rudely and unprofessionally in a location that is subpar, in which case, go and look for the one star- and two star-rated businesses here because they're just for you! read more

I should've read the reviews before buying a voucher for her services. I called multiple times and left messages but she NEVER returned the call. I finally got through to her a few minutes ago and she was so - what's the word? - BLAH. I let her know I had a voucher and she was like "Well you need to make an appointment right away because it expires January 31st".... but I let her know that the one I bought expires February 24th and she was like "Huh. That's weird, I don't know why that's like that... Are you sure?" "Yes I have it right in front of me..." "Huh"......... I was like....... ... OK???? It got so uncomfortable so quickly!!! In any case I quickly said "But I will be calling in a second to make an appointment so that I could look at my schedule" and what did she do?! SHE HUNG UP. HUNG. UP. I just emailed the place I got the voucher from and demanded a refund. Why on EARTH would a person that runs a business be so RUDE to its potential customers? It's pointless! If I had a one-woman business like her I would be the sweetest little angel in the world to my customers so that they could keep coming and recommending me to their friends and I would PROFIT from my business. I came here excited to get my nails done. I'd never had any professional nail services before, and, after this experience, it is doubtful I ever will again. My friends told me never to go to those crazy Asian spots because they talk trash and are illegal immigrants so I went to the right touch. I felt like a movie star walking into the establishment, and walking out I was in pain from the rough way she treated my nails and cuticles. I'm thoroughly disappointed, will be contacting the bureau of better business, and am spreading the word about the nightmarish experience I had. You've been warned. read more

Amazing, amazing, amazing! NOT. Husband decides to treat me to a mani/pedi (he purchased an online coupon - $18 for mani/pedi value of $60) with a KGB deal... after attempting to reach the establishment three separate times to book my appt and to no avail husband decides to research an alternative number... finally a call back from Ruth who given the circumstances kindly obliges an extension to the expired date. Sat Nov 19, 2011 @ 3p was the settled appt date NOW THE TIMELINE... 9:42a: 1st call / I call nail place morning of appt (5+ hrs before appt) Whilst husband and I are on the road from Los Angeles to Mission Viejo to run errands for the day; I decide to give the Right Touch a courtesy call. I figured given that it wasn't even 10am yet and btw the way the 5N traffic already looked; I would be proactive in letting them know that I might be a tad bit late for my 3p appt later that afternoon. Unbeknownst to me and according to husband I spoke directly with Ruth (the owner) and inquired how long my intended appt will take... Ruth says 1.5 hrs... and reminds me that her next client is due in @ 5p... thus given her prior statement... 3:30p would presumably be the latest I could arrive for a 1.5 hr mani/pedi... right? Well not exactly... Ruth proceeds to suggest I reschedule for a Wednesday Dec 14 slot at 11am... uhhhh duh... what if I have a full time job that doesn't allow me the leisure of walking away much less driving to Pasadena for a 1.5 hour mani/pedi??? And I'm not about to take a day off just to accommodate her schedule... I mean need I even state the obvious??? Who exactly is the customer here?! 9:55am: 2nd call / nail place calls me back morning of appt Ruth asks me if I intend to be late. I kindly reminded her that I can not predict Los Angeles traffic but we will try our best to be there before 3p -- 3:30p at the latest. She then asks if I would like to cancel my appointment... I again repeat very slowly this time, "We - will - try - our - best - to - be - there - on-time / by - 3-p-m. And low and behold she hangs up on me. WTF! Now even more determined to meet this kooky character... Husband and I resolve that we may need to cut our planned errands in OC short that day just so we can be there even earlier than 3p! And I jokingly suggest if we're graced by some lag time perhaps we can probably pop by a bookstore to pick up a copy of "The Art of Customer Service in America" so I can add it to her tip. 2:10pm: 3rd call / nail place calls me less than an hour before appt By this time we're are in route off the 605 fwy & the 5 fwy junction (mind you we busted our tail to already be more than half way back from Mission Viejo) when we receive another call from none other than Ruth herself... surprise, surprise... She begins by stating the wrong name... "Kim?" ... I answer, "no". and ff conversation ensues: She states that: since I will not be able to make my appt today; she suggests I just get a refund for the mani/pedi instead... Absolutely floored with this snide and presumptuous remark... I explain to her that we are already on our way... and she says she will still NOT be able to take me in... mind you, IT WASN'T EVEN 2:30p yet! Thus giving us ample time to make it to Pasadena from Artesia... She reluctantly says sorry. And I mention that she never even gave us a chance to show up ON TIME... and I proceed to ask, "Well what if I show up at the nail place before 3p?" Ruth says "I have the right to refuse service. I answer back with: "You didn't even give us a chance to show up" and Ruth says: "Thank you. CLICK." Now, if I wasn't infuriated then, believe you me... I was definitely appalled and speechless now! Needless to say husband and I then decide to pull over and grab a bite to eat to calm our nerves and call it what it was --- a VERY long day. Seriously who pays $60 for a mani/pedi these days? Last I checked this wasn't exactly Burke Williams. W-O-W, I can clearly see why Ruth is so stuck on her repeat customers; God knows she could use all the help she can get esp. since they're probably the only two souls who apparently gave her kudos on yelp out of a total of a mere six reviews... mine being #7. As for the communicating directly w Ruth as suggested by the review prior to mine... my timeline above is more than enough proof that no amount of communication can counter nor justify her unprofessional and down right RUDE behavior. Ruth: I'm sure your mama taught you better manners than that. Do us and this country a favor and please, please, please learn to run a business by taking a much needed class in "Customer Service 101." Amazing, amazing, amazing! Sooooooooooo N-O-T. God help you. I bought a groupon-type deal for a mani-pedi. The first two times I called to make an appointment, I left a message, but never got a call back. By the time I got through, she only had a handful of appointments left before the coupon expired, and none were convenient. I told her that I'd left messages, but she gave me an excuse for not calling back which was basically "I was too busy". She was not willing to extend the expiration date of the deal. After that interaction, I was uncomfortable having her do my nails, and managed to get a refund from the website where I bought the coupon. It seems to me that she sells more coupons than she can reasonably fulfill, and I would recommend NOT buying a coupon to this business. read more

I've been getting manicures and pedicures from Ruth at The Right Touch for 10 years. Her manicures hold up beautifully. I always get compliments on my nails and the manicures last up to two weeks. This is a small, one-person shop, so be sure to book an appointment in advance. The atmosphere is relaxed, unhurried and very friendly. There is parking in the back - the entrance is on Green Street. Look I have been a client of Ruth's for 4 years. I have always gotten GREAT service from her. She does her best to make sure I get what I want. She will order food and drinks, so that you enjoy yourself while you get your massage, exfoliation,cuticle, paraben wrap, color change and trim. All inclusive price includes the last sentence. Ruth is a fun and charming business woman who runs her business smooth and professionally. With her you're garanteed one on one personal care and attention which is a key source to relaxing and being pampered. I was originally referred to her through another friend and am very grateful for it. She uses excellent top of the line products to ensure that your nails start and continue to grow healthly even with acrylics (which are my favorite). I've unfortunately read people's negative comments on here about The Right Touch and or Ruth herself and all I can say is....you obviously weren't open to the amazing and bright experience of her nail salon. Well since learning and growing hooked to The Right Touch I haven't stepped foot inside another chain nail shop ever again! My own nails as well as with acrylics have never looked better or more healthy. Great attention to detail, lovely atmosphere, but be prepared to stay for a lot longer than most other salons

I've been a customer of Ruth's since 1995. The Right Touch is not a fast food type experience. She takes her time. She's an aesthetician from the old school which translates into 1) excellent customer service; 2) meticulous attention to detail; and 3) pride in her work. That is why I still go to Ruth even though I've moved several times since first meeting her and why I will commute to Pasadena to let her work on my nails even though I now live in the heart of Los Angeles. You will not get a rush job with Ruth, so you might as well sit back, relax and enjoy your session. If you get there early or need to dawdle while your nails dry, you won't need a magazine even though Ruth provides them. Ruth's salon doubles as a boutique where she has at any one time lots of jewelry, handbags and other accessories for sale. Ruth also has an extensive collection of nail colors to choose from which she tries to display by color scheme. If you take a fancy to any of them, she is happy to sell them to you. Ruth charges a fair price for her work and time that she takes with each client. Remember, you aren't paying for fast food or junk and you and your nails are worth her "right touch". read more
