The food is great, but the service needs major attention! We had been recommended to try The Roost by several friends so we decided to give it a try this past Sunday. When we arrived there was just a little wait which was no big deal. The hostess was friendly and got us to our table quickly. Our server, Maria, was a different story. I ordered the chicken and waffles and my husband wanted the Daybreak Platter with a waffle instead of pancakes. Maria let us know that the waffle would be a la carte which we were fine with. But then she said we couldn't do the Daybreak platter at all and if we wanted to the waffle we would have to build my husband's entire meal a la carte which didn't make sense. She then proceeds to verbally outloud say she was deleting the Daybreak and started adding everything separately. Like adding the items a La carte and saying the price of them out loud which was unnecessary. Highlighting that the waffle by itself is like $9. I let her know we didn't care about the price just wanted the food we were asking for. She then huffs, rolls her eyes, and walks away. A few moments later she comes back with some excuse of her throat is burning but she's not sick it's because the air is dry while proceeding to cough at the table. Strange. At that moment, I really wanted to be all done here but I decided to continue on as we had heard such great reviews about Roost. I advised her of our order explaining exactly how I wanted it. So we ordered the Chicken and Waffles, Daybreak Platter, and a kids breakfast plate. She had made such a huge deal about adding the waffle my husband didn't even want it anymore. That was probably the most unprofessional and awkward ordering experience I have ever had. Nonetheless, our food came quickly and was brought out by a very nice gentleman. All of our food was delicious! The waffle had bacon and cheese inside which was great and something I hadn't seen before! Maria came over a few times to check on us but after the ordering fiasco the vibe was just off. Overall, the food was delicious but the service could surely be improved. Went to The Roost today for the first time as part of Devour Indy. They had 2 can dine for $35. Which included two beverages, one shared snack item, and two entrees. We ordered: -two mimosas -cinnamon roll -bougie French toast -chicken and waffles I really enjoyed the drinks, cinnamon roll and French toast. The French toast came covered in a lemon custard and fresh fruit. So delicious. The chicken in waffles was a savory waffle. Not my thing, but my husband ordered it. We also ordered a side of their hash brown casserole and biscuits and gravy. Both I'd give high marks to! My daughter wouldn't stop eating the hash brown casserole and asked for another order! Kids meals are huge and definitely worth the price! I hate when the kids meals are small portions that only 1-3 year olds would fill up on. My kids are 6 and 8 so the meal was large enough to satisfy them and at $7! I definitely plan on coming back! read more

I love this place! It's probably a good thing it's on the opposite side of town from where I live, I'd definitely be there multiple times a week. We stopped in on a Sunday morning around 9 and it wasn't super busy. We got seated right away. The staff were all really friendly. The hardest part was choosing what to order. Every single latte sounded amazing. I settled on the coffee cake latte and it was delicious. I loved that it came with a little slice of Sahm's coffee cake. Chilaquiles is one of my favorite breakfast/brunch foods so of course I had to order it. It was delicious. Everything was reasonably priced and the portions were really big. read more

I'd been to this Roost location once before for lunch, but this was my first try for breakfast. When it comes to breakfast, I almost exclusively go for savory (with the exception of fruit), and it's got to be high protein. I have to say, I was unimpressed with the options as well as what I eventually ended up with. First, I ordered the matcha latte and asked if it would be sweet if my milk of choice was whole milk or half n half. I even said, "I sometimes order matcha in a restaurant, and it's sweet. But plain matcha powder isn't sweet unless sweetened, so which is it--do you know?" I was assured it wasn't sweet. While it may have been true that they don't add a syrup, the matcha mix they use is in fact sweet--uggh. Nonetheless, it wasn't too hard to get it down because their mugs are small. I ordered the Country Skillet with chorizo and two eggs over easy. I debated a lot on what to order because so few items here are gluten-free including all the Tex Mex style entrees, like the current quesadilla special. It is abundantly difficult in the Midwest to get a corn tortilla in place of a flour one, though the former is far more traditional and GF. But I digress. Relegated to the Country Skillet of I wanted my chorizo fix, I noted it came with a bread of choice, so I ordered whatever the GF bread option was, just to hear that they ran out of GF bread. Seriously frustrated because I sort of wanted to go back to the drawing board at that point but now everyone was putting orders in and there wasn't time. I was resigned to enjoy my meal without the bready side. But after it came, I was hard pressed to find the chorizo! It was decidedly a hash-style presentation whereby the shredded potato was completely mixed in with the chorizo, but I'm no idiot. I think there was a thimbleful of meat in the whole entree. The eggs were cooked perfectly, and they sat on a paper thin layer of melted Jack cheese. Nonetheless, the main part of the dish was dry as a bone. The hash was overcooked and crunchy in most places, so much so that a few bites hurt my teeth. I snagged a friend's side of green sauce to choke it down and took half of it home to doctor it further there. This was definitely a case of little annoyances that collectively added up to my not enjoying the meal, save for the company that is. Don't think I'll be back anytime soon. read more

There was a TINY bit of the "stuffing" ingredients dribbled on top of the very center of it. Think I barely got a taste of the bacon toward the end and a couple tastes of the cheese. We stopped in for a quick bite while touring the next door apartment complex and we just weren't completely impressed by our server nor everything we ordered. Gabe was our waiter but it felt like we were always asking someone else for assistance. I had a 1/2 order of the Biscuits & Gravy with an add on of two eggs, the gravy had a strong sour cream taste to it that was very different. He had the Country King omelette that was large and was tasty - he ordered raisin bread as his toast but that was forgotten (we ended up taking that to go), the raisin bread tastes homemade so that was a very nice surprise! A friend and I stopped in here for brunch today before taking a stroll on the monon. It's a great location. The server we had was wonderful but the food was a letdown. The omelette was dry and barely had any cheese. The hash browns were cold in the middle and bland. They need more butter and seasoning. The corn pudding I had ended up having a hair in it, but at that point we were ready to go and didn't say anything. Good breakfast burritos. Pro tip, though: Ask them to put hash browns inside the burrito. That will take your good breakfast burrito and make it great. The breakfast burrito comes with your choice of meat (I chose chorizo) and a little thing of salsa. The salsa was excellent. The whole burrito was pretty big -- so big that I could only eat half and ate the rest for lunch. We also got biscuits and gravy, which are always great at The Roost, including the one in Fishers. My kids split a cinnamon roll, which they devoured. We got our food to go, which I think is good for a breakfast burrito because they're portable, but really, The Roost is a place to sit and eat with a cup of hot coffee. I'm not familiar with this area having only been to the Fashion Mall once before the pandemic hit us, but my GPS took me to the correct parking lot for The Roost. But once in the parking lot, I had trouble finding it. I double checked the reviews and thanks to the Richard P and Missi R reviews, I knew I was in the correct location. I guess I was looking for a big sign like for The Big Lug or Sahm's. The Roost only has signage on their door and window. I stopped in for lunch at 11:30 am. Yes, they have a lunch menu and even though they are listed as a breakfast and brunch spot they offer lunch. When I left around 12:15 they were three parties waiting to be seated as all tables were full, but not the bar where I sat. There was plenty of seats, over ten at least, available at the bar. I ordered the Grilled Chicken Sandwich on a knotted roll with lettuce, tomato (held the mayo) and the optional BBQ sauce. I substituted the fries for the potato chips which were Ruffles (with Ridges). You probably can't tell from my photo but the sandwich had two layers of thickly cut chicken. The BBC was not spicy, thank goodness, and mild too as in not real tangy. The sandwich was excellent. And even though my stomach has shrunk from losing weight this past year, I finished the whole thing and I was not stuffed. The restrooms were clean and very nice. Parking was not an issue. It seemed like there were plenty of spaces nearby that you could "borrow" from other places that were not being used at all due to a fraction of a walk. read more

It's no secret that I'm a fan of the Sahm's family of restaurants. As a person who is single, I tend to be drawn to those restaurants that operate with a sense of welcome that isn't really all that common. The Roost is the second location for the breakfast/brunch theme within the Sahm's universe with the beloved original still located in Fishers at 116th and Allisonville. While Nora isn't necessarily that much closer to me, it's closer enough for me that I can easily justify a Nora trip for the right meal and the right experience. This spot takes over for another Sahm's establishment - Sahm's Ale House - and is also right next to Big Lug Canteen. I've always felt like this parking lot is a bit congested and it's even moreso now that there's an apartment building just south of the Sahm's building. However, it also has appropriate accessible parking and a pretty decent ramp access right at the corner between Big Lug and The Roost. The curb is fairly small anyway and I'm known to jump it. The decor here is somewhat consistent to The Ale House and it's right along the Monon. It's actually a great spot and I know there's some outdoor dining, though I'm not quite sure if it all belongs to Big Lug or if it will eventually be shared. There's a double glass door entryway and once you enter there's a hosting station. There's a small bar area slightly to the left and a nicely decorated dining room to the right. They also have a private room option and it looked like there's another room to the side. This was one of the rare times when being a single diner paid off. A handful of folks were waiting, but they had a small 2-top and I got seated right away. The main dining area is kind of unique and a little lacking in terms of accessibility. There's some attractive booths that mostly have a step up into them and some higher-top tables. There's a mid-section that does have all fairly accessible tables, though it's a congested area. It works, but it may be challenging if you have a bigger wheelchair. My server, Jade, was a highlight of the experience. She was friendly, attentive, and added small touches of service - like bringing a tea refill without my having to ask and not putting the check down right away after delivering that refill. I was here in the early afternoon and the rush was slowing down a bit, but they were still busy and I never felt rushed. This is a breakfast/brunch joint. I often find with this set-up that lunch is an afterthought, but Sahm establishments don't really do afterthoughts. I ended up ordering a smash burger with tots. Yes, it's a little pricey but it's fair and everyone's prices have gone up these days. It was a good meal and I was happy with it. My bill came in at about $16 without tip. I would easily order both items again, though next time I'll probably defer to breakfast. While I'd prefer a bit better access and maybe just a bit more of a relaxing environment, I have to say I can't find anything flawed about this experience and am opting to stick with the 5-star with the minor disclaimer that those with mobility issues may need to plan a bit. There's enough table options that it will work and Sahm's is strong enough in customer service that they will make it work. Some places I wouldn't have that confidence - here? I do. Overall, I'm quite pleased and look forward to visiting again. Sahm restaurants are locally owned (if you've lived in this city any length of time you've seen the Sahm name on more than a few places) and they nearly always give me what I want - a place I feel welcome, good service, good to great food, a comfortable atmosphere, and fair prices. My son and I stopped in for breakfast -- he dug his chocolate chip waffle, and I enjoyed my corned beef hash with scrambled egg and a biscuit. Drip coffee usually isn't good at cafes and diners. The weather was nice and I didn't expect this gorgeous patio dining area. It was right next to monon trail so it was perfect to take a walk after the meal. We ordered two omelettes, waffle and iced latte. It was good comfort food and nothing disappointed me. It was nice that you can have the greens as a side dish without extra charge. I thought it was nice that they give you healthier options other than casserole or something fried. Maple leaf latte was pretty good and overall, I absolutely enjoyed patio dining experience under the shade. My friends and I had been waiting with great anticipation for the Roost on the Monon to open. We are regulars at Big Lug next door, and had been seeing signs for awhile that Roost would be opening soon. I love breakfast and brunch restaurants, and I can already guess that I will be a regular here. The interior is very inviting, with booths, tables, and counter dining. Facing the Monon is a beautiful patio, which will be a wonderful place for breakfast dining once the weather warms up. The menu is huge, with many unique breakfast entrees as well as the usual standards. Service is very, very friendly. The servers are very welcoming and helpful. My food was super! I ordered Huevos Divorcé and a cinnamon roll. I would definitely order the same entree again but there is so much more to explore. I was especially happy to see a breakfast poutine on the menu, with an option for mushroom gravy. I will be returning very soon to try some of the other breakfast entrées. read more

I ordered a Spinach Melt: Grilled spinach spread, bacon, tomato, cheddar, mozzarella, alfalfa sprouts. Ended up with a Turkey Spinach Melt: Spinach mix grilled, sliced turkey breast, bacon, tomato, cheddar, mozzarella, alfalfa sprouts. Kinda threw me when it came out with turkey on it. Didnt realize I got the wrong thing till looking up the menu for this review. It didn't have any sprouts on it. It was good. Would have preferred no turkey. Side of Cottage Cheese over priced for the size. Tater tots good and crispy. Husband ordered a Bacon and Cheese 4 egg omolette: Diced bacon, mozzarella, American. He was super disapointed. It had very very little bacon in it. What was there was only in about half the omolette. The american cheese was a slice of ( like kraft ) cheese melted on top. Was pretty good, but the beef patty was a little under seasoned just add some hot sauce and it is all fine. I did ask for egg over easy, but my yolk ended up cooking all the way, so was a little sad by that but the sandwich itself was still good. Got it with the hashbrown, not the best ones had but also not the worst. The servers here were kind and courtesy, which always a win in my book. Honestly the prices here are also reasonable. If I were to get this burger in Califonria I would probably be paying over 20 bucks there, but I paid around 15 for mine here in Indy. Taking over the one side of Big Lug is their new-ish breakfast/brunch/lunch spot closing at 3pm. There is plenty of seating so we didn't have to wait during the brunch rush on a weekend which was nice. Huge menu! The entire front of the menu was breakfast based and the back was more towards anyone who would enjoy a lunch meal. I opted for the quiche - they had 5 types when I asked what there was! I went in with veggie. It was a huge slice of crust-less quiche that was pillowy. I definitely needed some salt but it was delicious otherwise. The omelettes looked really tasty too I would try that next time I'm in! I felt it was very reasonable in price as well- a whole dish would be about $13. I had regular drip (Hubbard and Cravens) coffee but there were a lot of specialty options available that would make a perfect DCT. read more

I ate here on Saturday for the Devour Menu with a friend! The wait was quite long, but that is to be expected for a Saturday brunch. I believe we waited about 30 minutes. The only thing I will say about this part is that they def need to give a better waiting area option as everyone was kind of awkwardly placed trying to find a spot to wait. The food was very good. I got a mimosa and the Hoosier breakfast. My friend got the drip coffee (free refills) and also the same breakfast. We split a cinnamon roll. The cinnamon roll was a little dry in my opinion, but everything else tasted amazing! I LOVE the cornbread casserole, I have never seen another restaurant offer that. The waitress was very kind and helpful. My only complaint about the atmosphere was that it was awfully hot in there. I was sweating just sitting down and talking. The waitress said she was warm but hadn't been sure if it was just her since she was working. All in all, I've been here several times before and I am sure to be back. I went and had brunch with a friend on Friday. The place was PACKED! They were on a 15 min wait when I arrived which quickly went up to an hour+ as groups continued to walk in. My 15min wait turned into about 20-25. It was fine. As we were seated it took another 5-7min for our server to come over to us. We completely understood considering the amount of patrons there. We knew what we wanted to order, food and drinks...the drinks we received in a timely fashion, however...the food literally took forever. About 30 min. We were unsure whether it was because it was so busy or maybe because the server forgot. That was disappointing. Once the food arrived, it was good. I ordered the chilaquiles and the cornbread casserole. My friend got the chicken and waffles. Everything was so flavorful, including the drinks. The restaurant is a good size. Bright colors. Sahms always does things right with their restaurants and they met the mark with the Roost as well. We stopped in on a Sunday afternoon and got seated immediately. Loved the diner-like atmosphere and staff was really friendly and prompt. The menu is huge and quite frankly took a long time to read over. They have breakfast and lunch options so it's a crowd pleaser. I loved my half chicken salad and everyone else loved their breakfast entrees. The hash brown casserole and eggs Benedict looked delicious. They also made sure to keep your coffee cup filled to the brim. The only downfall is that it's on the pricier side for a breakfast joint. The rebranding of "Sahm's Alehouse" to "The Roost" makes sense. Wish the outdoor signage would be updated (and it may be in the works, who knows.) When using gps to navigate I just put in Big Lug Canteen since I was not sure. How can you eat somewhere when you don't know the actual name or location? Beyond that the food is solid and they have a nice interior and full bar which most "breakfast/brunch" spots don't have. Lots of options on the menu for either breakfast or lunch, it was hard to decide! I got the tuna melt and was satisfied. Given the options and price point of the menu it's a great spot to please everyone. read more

Loved the veggie omelette. Packed full and cooked perfectly. I've never reviewed toast before, but it was great. Service was quick and friendly. My only criticism was the hash browns and it's something I've seen in a lot of places. They appear to have been cooked much earlier and the reheated or kept under a lamp. Lots of places do this and it s lazy. They tasted old and like leftovers from the previous day. I've eaten at enough Waffle Houses to know that hash browns don't take that long to make, so whatever time/labor savings there are to this reheated method is not worth it in my opinion. After waiting about 25 minutes and noticing people who came in after us were being served our server came over to tell us there was a "tech issue" and our order was never put in. What a great place! I've been twice now. On this visit, my husband had the chicken and waffles. He admittedly wasn't in love with his meal. He's a fan of Big Lug's chicken and was expecting the chicken to be prepared similarly. Also, the waffle was very sweet. It came out with syrup already on top, and it was too much for his liking. Maybe ask for it to be on the side if you don't have a big sweet tooth. He did love the hash brown casserole. I had an omelette with bacon, sausage, ham, caramelized onion, and Swiss. I cannot recall the name of the dish. It was an incredibly generous portion and so so good. I would 100% order it again. I had the hash brown casserole as my side and a pancake. Loved everything, and had leftovers for the next morning even after sharing my meal with our son. My husband and I had lattes that came with a small slice of Sahm's famous coffee cake. Tik Tok made me do it! I was minding my business when a video about a spot with good food and bottomless mimosas jumped on my phone. Next thing you know a week later I've made plans with friends to go. We had a party of 5 and arrived at the restaurant around 11:30. We had a small wait for a table. We were immediately greeted and we had questions about the bottomless mimosas that attracted us. Our waitress explained everything and let us have time to check the menu. I ordered The Daybreak and got a side of potatoes. Everything was good and we enjoyed ourselves so much at we shut down the restaurant. We did have a "large party" gratuity added but I tipped on top of that since we had been there so long. I will be back soon! read more

Great breakfast at The Roost!! I tried the Nashville Chicken Sandwich Breakfast with Corn Casserole and it was so great!! I also got their Coffee Cake Latte and it came with coffee cake which was SO good. The service was fantastic and everyone was very kind. Gosh i wish i knew of this place when we lived in the area. First time visit was during Devour Indy based upon their menu and we've been back several times since. Love their orange juice! Everything I've had for breakfast has been delicious. Service is friendly and we had only one time when it was very busy that it looked like there was some confusion with service but nothing ruinous. Free parking for a place tucked away in the corner, a hidden gem for sure! read more

Second time here and yep, still 5 stars. Service was great. Arrived around 10am on a Saturday, looks like we missed the breakfast rush. This particular Roost is next door to Big Lug, which I've not tried. The biscuits and gravy are on point here...creamy with great flavor and soft biscuits. Tried the corn casserole this time, tasty and not overly sweet. Tried the raspberry white truffle latte, opted for one shot espresso instead of the two it comes with because I'm not a huge coffee drinker. Very tasty with the right amount of sweetness. Glad we came back...until next time! read more
