Who doesn't love the round up? Here in the hood we tend to call it by its secret name, which is "Schooner." The round up is super fun because it's always a different mix of people. You have the executives, students, moms, the regulars. There's a unique culture... lots of memorabilia as well as games and music. I think the bartenders are fabulous and so are the bouncers. I highly recommend a visit to the round up, if you're ever in Lafayette. I would just bring some cash, but if you forget, there's always the ATM. read more

This place tries to be "ironically cool" because it's a shit bar in the middle of swanky Lafayette. The place is alright, but most of the people there suck. Amongst the semi-attractive cougars, wannabe bikers/tough guys, fat bald guys who wish they were still in Jr. College, and your typical Lafayette douchebag brosephs, the clientele usually makes me want to leave. On the positive side, I've had good interactions with the bar tender, they have a couple of arcade games and a pool table. read more

I love the Round Up. My friends introduced to me to this place after moving to Walnut Creek. Apparently it's the only bar in Laffayette, which would explain why it's always packed! But man, this bar has characters! The people that are at the Round Up are Saint Mary's kids, married couples that would be my parent's friends, old men and their buds (as my friends would say, if they are old enough, call the Uncle), and then the bunch of me, mid 20s overly single girls. This place is always a good time and good laugh! Knocked the star off because the DJ would let random people do karoke for hours. NO THANKS. But other than that, Bartenders are sweet, bouncers are great, and the decor is questionable. Also, beware for the bathroom. It being a round up... it's a little small and yeah... Growing up in Moraga you always hear about the night before Thanksgiving at the Round Up, which simplified means high school reunion of Acalanes and Campolindo...and get wasted. I've never been to the Round Up outside of this "event" so I really can't judge it outside of a reunion context. But I will tell you this... Great atmosphere, they really know how to prepare for an invasion of ex-Moraga high school kids (they put everything away to clear up room). Cheap beer, cheap drinks, not a lot of bathroom space (but that's okay because there's always the alleys nearby). An overall great experience. Sure I won't go anymore, but that's not the Round Ups fault, I just don't want to be an old pervey guy with a bunch of young kids. What can i say about the Round Up except it is dirty and cheap, just like i like my women. It is a dive bar in a ritzy town. I love to come here at 10am and getting S#!^ faced and watching football. Drink prices are not bad but the entertainment they have is usually horrible. However you can't ever go wrong here. I wish they had more of a beer selection but who cares they got MF'n Hamms beer. Thats right nothing beats a a $3 Hamms in downtown lafayette. I feel like royalty with Hamms beer in my hand. Now the downside. The Curly haired brunette is the meanest, rudest, unhappiest bartender i have met and it kind of turns me on. But seriously what is her problem. She seems angry at the world. This place has been around since my dad was living here, which was, oh, maybe 25-30 years ago. He loves the fact that it's still around, and when he is in town visiting we sometimes stop by there for a drink. It is fun to hang out here, and has a good pool table. The Round Up is really what you make of it. If you're looking for a happenin' night spot with a bunch of hot young people then don't come here. If you're looking for a cool place to hang out, play pool, drink some beers and maybe play some shuffleboard, this is your place. I've seen some beautiful women come and go here and they certainly stand out, like a pig in a chicken coop. The place is meant more for an older than thirty crowd meaning a more mature drunken crowd. Often times I've seen older men with younger women in here. Don't assume like I did that they're father/daughter. More like father/daughter complexes. Which is cool, I guess. I do like a little bit of the old Round Up. Good things: 1. It's right across the street from our apartment which makes for the shortest stumble home ever. 2. They have pool. 3. SHUFFLEBOARD!!! 4. What's with all the bad reviews? I love this place! The age is between 21 and 70 i'm sure but that's why it's so awesome. Karaoke nights are my favorite. How have I not reviewed this place yet? This is the classic spot for my friends and I. The drinks are decently price and the atmosphere is chill. It's the only bar worth hanging out at in Lafayette. Came here on a Thursday evening after dinner in Orinda. We're we're a group of five. Ordered cocktails with the bartender, Clarissa. We all got our drinks .. except my friend ordered a shot of tequila with a water. She made it as a mixed cocktail... TEQUILA AND WATER! Who drinks that? I never imagined getting kicked out of a dive like the Round Up, but I apparently caught GBB on a *REALLY* bad night. So I guess that's all water under the bridge, but I have been known to hold a little bit of a grudge or two. I've reluctantly returned several times since then, because the truth is, I do like the weird mix of people that seem to convene here, and for some reason, this place is the preferred meeting spot for after-work drinks with my coworkers. I came here for a drink on New Years, and after a really great Mandarin kamikaze shot, I felt brave enough to show off my sub par singing skills! so i been coming here for months and then i got a job as a security guard there after some medical issues that kept arising i was forced to quit and thats when the staff in particular a bartender named Roxanne got really nasty. I came in about a week after i quit to participate for kareoke and then pool. As i was sitting at the bar, The bartender Roxanne approached me and started screaming at me in front of everyone saying i pissed alot of people off by quitting and just totally embarassed me in front of everyone and also told me to leave and never come back to the bar that i was once a loyal customer and employee of. I spoke to the owner Mike the next day and he said that i pissed off people by quitting. He also stated that i could come back to the bar when the bartender was not working but then he also said i could come when she was working if i didnt speak to her so i agreed. Last tuesday on free pool night i came in and not even 10 minutes she comes over to me and pulls me in private and then starts screaming at me and tells me to leave, i told her i had permission by owner to be there and she said no i didnt even tho i have the text message to prove it. Just to avoid any drama i left but i have never in my life as a security guard of 15 years and going to bars n pubs have i been so harrassed and discriminated against. I spoke with owner next day and he said "maybe its best you go to some other bars" Wow im ashamed to ever have worked for a place that treats people like this. all the other bartenders are amazing and im really sorry i wont be able to see them and laugh and have fun with them. read more

Almost impossible to throw out generalizations about the Round Up, nearly every night is a different experience. The off nights consist of the local drunks and a few randoms shooting pool. Every night has a different promotion, and off the top of my head it goes something like this: Sunday- guitar hero Monday- ping pong Tuesday- free pool and $2 drafts Wednesday- karaoke Thursday- super weak with an evil bartender Friday- ohhhh, I think Diamond Dave is in the house Saturday- karaoke In my mind, Wednesdays are the most entertaining and eclectic. I loved the crowd and the karaoke was fun... drinks were a bit pricy considering they only take cash (wierd) but all the reviews were right about the bartenders! Wow, I needed a stick to poke them to get some attention! It was crazy crowded and one bartender dissappeared! There was only 2... ON MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND!!! Dumb on the owners part!. Great local dive bar with wonderful characters and awesome live music.

A small hole in the wall bar from the outside but a bit bigger inside. They have four pool tables and I think I saw a shuffle board table too. It was crowded around 9:00 but the crowd started to thin out around 10ish. Live music, my friends band was performing, Highwater Blues, she is the lead singer so I went to see them. Major complaint the place was so cold we could not get warm and kept our coats on. Also the back door which is behind the band everyone kept going in and out of to smoke and opening and closing the door while the guitar player standing there was playing. They said the heaters were on but we even tried to get warm dancing and it did not help. I was so anxious to get in my car to turn on the heater. It is hard to enjoy a venue when it's too hot or too cold. The ladies bathroom left a lot to be desired. I had an open window that you could not close and anyone in the parking lot could see into it. NOT GOOD. There was writing all over the walls they really need to invest a little of that beer money in fixing it up a bit. I have walked into this place and seen not so casual attire (evening cocktail hour must have gone into working for the weekend, catch my drift?) and, in contrast, stinky chaos that made me think I would hate it forever. But a small group of us went there twice in the last few months when they were hosting karaoke, and it was a surprising explosion of super fun times! People like to know that there is a reliable dive in their hood and I am beginning to believe that the Roundup is it. The three stars are because i am not totally sure about the fun being something to count on, but if it is a matter of certain nights, go for karaoke and cheap drinks! Female bartender has a decent figure and a good sense of humor. The drinks are moderately priced but the whiskey is sub par, the paler ales are ok. I mean, come on, what are you really expecting from here? Just by looking at the outside you should know what you are getting into. Growing up I had passed this bar every day on my to and from camp. When I finally was of age this was at the top of places I had to try. In my mind I had made this place into a dingy dark bar full of cowboys. What this place is instead is a mix of regulars and people passing through. The atmosphere is very friendly and very warm. The decor is definitely very dingy and run down but it adds to that local bar charm. On my last visit playing a game of shuffle board we were joined by a slightly tipsy couple. They were heckling us and joking. Totally felt like I had been there my whole life. The only draw back is that they take only cash, boo, but there is an ATM, yay! When you come to the round up it is not going to a be a ritzy time, but they beer is good and the people are interesting. read more

You never know what your gonna get at the roundup. The crowd can be young, old or a strange combination. The bartenders are good except for roxy or Roxeanne. Her drinks taste good because there's hardly any alcohol in them. Usually it's a good thing when bartenders don't measure alcohol but I wish she did. I don't like the taste of alcohol and I'm sensitive to it, so i notice easily that she hardly puts any alcohol in mixed drinks. Don't ask her personal questions either because she will react as if you propositioned her for sex. She's the one that looks like she may have been pretty 20 years ago. She is the most unfriendly bartender I've ever met. Try one of her drinks and try another bartenders drinks. It's a substantial difference. read more

A weird mix of old alcoholic regulars, college students, middle-aged men trying to pick up on women half their age, cougars, MILFs, bikers, and bankers. Drink prices are fair, they have free food on the weekends sometimes, always some theme night of some sort, pool, shuffle-board, so-so jukebox. Most importantly, it's right by BART so if you get too tore up you can just slap your shoes on your knees and crawl there. BONUS! I think it's a neat bar. Definitely a dive. It seems to be good if you went to Acalanes (I didn't) and want to run into old high school friends, but I also had a blast listening to karaoke. Let's just say that Lafayette would be a sterile, bland, bedroom community....Wait, let me rephrase. Lafayette is all the above but the Round Up makes the town worth going to. This bar is a town institution, everything from newly minted 21-year-olds, to cougars, dirty old men and snotty St. Mary's College kids, and some bikers. Full-sized shuffleboard table, hard to get on because it's popular, a few pool tables and some decent bands. It's an active spot. My only knock on the place is that the male and female bartenders on Thursday nights really don't seem to enjoy their jobs. Rarely smile or engage the customers. They act put upon but they are probably making good money in tips. Drinks are good and the right price. So if one was to find him or herself trapped in Lafayette, this would be the place to head to for some fun. read more
