I was only able to get the stuffed French toast (15$) because the spoon stack was sadly not served on the weekend. The stuffed French toast was pretty good but it wasn't really a stuffed French toast, the top of the French toast just had a lot of the "stuffing" but on the inside there wasn't any of the "stuffing". All in all, the spot was decent and I would consider returning to be able to try the spoon stack. read more

Front the outside aesthetic to the inside ambiance was completely comforting as my son says it's like a home. First we started off with cherry limeade drinks and a virgin on was on spot on point. Then we order few appetizers. Our server Sam was pleasant to help and take order and answered our questions we didn't know about certain items. Mushroom toast is amazing from the lite cream sauce on bread pallet pleasure for sure light ,soft texture, but delicious flavor. The Rustic Spoon is kind of an underrated brunch spot in Hampton Roads in my opinion. This is in comparison to the Bay Local, Bee and the Biscuit, and Egg Bistro establishments. It's not as well known but I believe it should be! It's located past Bayside in an inconspicuous area. The parking is not too plentiful but it is still enough. We came for a large group celebrating a birthday. Luckily, there is an upstairs dining area which accommodates us nicely. It is a brunch rest but it also offers delicious lunch/dinner options. The interior is clean and well decorated. We ordered the Bay Burger and the Carnitas Hash with a kids pancake entree. The food came out with an acceptable wait due to a large party but it was not too long. The Bay Burger with the juicy Hereford beef and crab cake was an absolute hit! The Baja sauce complimented the crab cake perfectly and the burger was done medium rare. The carnitas hash was pretty good with the sauces and toppings but it was nothing special. I've tried the Rustic Spoon in the Red Mills neighborhood but not the biggest fan of it, but finally got a chance to try the OG Rustic Spoon, and I'm not disappointed! I shall say this restaurant is PRETTY! They definitely gave us the Rustic atmosphere and decor style like their name. There is a second floor along the big space on the first floor, so the restaurant is definitely good for big parties. The staff are nice and friendly too. Although the food took some time to be served, it makes sense because of how pretty every dishes looks! I ordered the Shrimp & Grits with a side of biscuit. I've had this dish from the Red Mills location before but just couple bites from my bf(using my gf card lol), and it is as delicious as it was! Unlike the typical old bay shrimp & grits, the Rustic Spoon's Shrimp & Grits CAKE is very tomato-ish, filled with cut sausages, and the grits are stacked into a rectangle and seared so it stays stacked. The shrinps are fresh, HUGE and with simple but nice flavor. They tryely made this Shrimp & Grits to proves that you don't need to put old bay on seafood to make it taste/look good. My coworkers all LOVE their food. One of them was still talking about how delicious amd pretty her burger was when we headed back to the office. I came to the Pleasure House location. I chose to sit out side. The patio had several tables with umbrellas. To start, I knew that I wanted an afternoon cocktail. My waitress Jordan, who was great but the way, suggested their Mimosas. To save time, I ordered two drinks. I ordered a $3 pineapple mimosa and a watermelon mojito. The mimosa was the perfect balance of champagne and juice. The watermelon mojito was served in a cute mason jar, which was so refreshing and delicious! There were so many options on the menu that I wanted to try, but I was short on time. I ordered the biscuit appetizer. it came with 2 biscuits, strawberry jam, and butter. 7 out of 10. But the star of the visit was my entree. I ordered a carnita hash! OH MY GOODNESS! Talk about a party for my taste buds. pork carnita, roasted corn, potatoes, onions, and cojita cheese, and I'm not sure what 6 it was amazing. The flavors were so bright and well balanced. This was the first and last time I visited The Rustic Spoon. The name should be the Rusty Spoon. The food was disappointing to say the least. The chicken was dry a day the French toast was soggy. Also members in my party complained that the food was cold, the French Fries were hard and the mac & cheese was gummy. We left more food on the plate than we were able to eat. We could have gotten a better meal at Mc Donald's or Wendy's. Than there was hidden fee that showed up on the bill. I was over charged by almost $75. Not worth your time or effort. What a wonderful experience for my girlfriend Sally her friend and myself. Our first time there for brunch was amazing From the moment we walked in everyone was nice and pleasant. After a few minutes at the bar our table was ready. Our server Cooper was awesome! Very knowledgeable and attentive. Never hovering or rushing us. Our food was delicious! Couldn't ask for better. Cooked as we asked, good portions and seasoned well. Also priced well. Even with full tables you could easily carry on your conversation. The decor was clean and pleasing. Cute two level place with great seating and atmosphere. We went on Mother's Day so it was crazy from the word go. We started with their famous Scotch Egg which was PHENOMENAL!!!! Like we all could've just eaten those! Their Bloody Mary - OMG so delicious in flavor and I'm a HUGE fan of celery salt and a bacon slice - not many restaurants serve it that way. The filet was perfectly cooked and the yolks were left with the perfect easy flow. Everyone said the food tasted very good however our food was lukewarm at best some things even cold. Had it been any other day than Mother's Day, probably would have said something but we did mention it to the manager at the end so he was aware and perhaps prevent others from having the same issue. The Rustic Spoon was sooooo good oh my goodness. I went here for brunch and it was actually pretty busy for a Tuesday morning! The atmosphere was casually classy and it was very cute. The service was great as well! Our server told us her favorite items on both the food and drink menus and it helped us decide what to get. It seemed like she was serving the entire restaurant at one point but it didn't feel like we waiting long at all or had to ask her for more refills or anything like that. Very good service! I loved that they also had a lot of vegetarian options as well and the menu was well-labeled to show which ones were vegetarian/gluten-free/etc. I thought this was super considerate! We started with an espresso martini as well as the cereal shooter flight! The martini was very well-balanced and the flights tasted just like the leftover milk after eating a bowl of cereal! There was a cinnamon toast one, fruit loops, Reese's peanut butter one and a cocoa pebble shooter. The cocoa pebble shooter was my favorite (this was the sweetest one to me)! The mushroom toast was our appetizer and it was SO GOOD. The hero was definitely the mushroom but it paired perfectly with all the other ingredients. The bread was fluffy and not too tough to cut apart. A nice savory and umami dish for sure :) The meatloaf was probably the best meatloaf I've ever had. It's pairing with the gravy and the roasted tomato corn salsa was like heaven. The carnitas hash was amazing. It was tangier than I imagined it to be, but I loved it. I expected it to be more salty but how they managed to have the tangy-ness in every bite was perfection. The dark chocolate waffle was so rich but not overly sweet/bitter! I could definitely taste the cocoa in it even without the chocolate syrup and I thought that was impressive. The spoon stack (soufflé pancakes) were not as sweet as I imagined! It was a little more eggy but was still delicious. It was super fluffy and paired nicely with the fruit and whipped cream. I will caveat the spoon stack does take about 20-25 mins to make so if you plan on ordering this as your main entree, definitely plan to wait a bit longer for this since it's a delicate process the chef has to take! I think it's worth the wait if you've never had them before :) Overall this restaurant is a 10 out of 10 when it comes to the quality/service/atmosphere! Brought my husband here yesterday for brunch for his birthday. I do like to support local and so I believe with a few tweaks this place could probably be stellar, but unfortunately we didn't feel it was worth the money paid :( We started with the blueberry biscuits - these had good flavor, but were very very dry. Knowing how to make these fluffy and moist would be a game changer. They don't have an espresso machine, so there are no special coffee drinks; this to me is a huge thumbs down. Any restaurant who knows a thing or two would be wise to invest in coffee-related sales. The coffee was fine. I think this place caters to the boozy brunch crowd, which we don't care for. A mimosa is cool every once in awhile, but it's not where I spend my dollars mostly. Invest in an espresso machine! On to the other food; my shrimp and grit cake was swimmmmmmming in gravy. Swimming. The shrimp was also super tough. My husband had the French toast and they gave him a steak knife to cut through it. Red flag. The bread was dense but the custard filling was actually quite nice and the cream was also very good. He did order a side of bacon which looked like it had only been cooked for 60 seconds. No way, José. Make that bacon crispy!!! The service was also just...fine. We probably could have been checked on more. I think this is a place you probably have to truly try for yourself. I made a reservation here for brunch and since it was for a larger party I had to call it in. It was a very seamless process and they were flexible when I updated the party number. It was a Sunday so the restaurant was busy but the service was still great. It has a very comfy atmosphere. I ordered the hot chocolate and it was delicious, but came out a little too hot. For an entree I chose the steak and eggs and it was very good. I prefer more spices on my steak but it was still very satisfying. The biscuits are amazing with the butter that's served on the side. This restaurant sits in a spot that you'd miss if you didn't know it was there. Once inside it is very nice. Beautiful woodwork. We were seated upstairs which is like an open loft. We ordered the scotch eggs - phenomenal! I would've been satisfied with just that! Also tried the fried oysters Benedict. You get 2 oysters on each half. They do get soggy because of the egg, sauce, and green tomato. I do wish a fried green tomato was used. I think this would've given more flavor ands somewhat saved the oysters. The filet mignon was cooked as requested and tender. The hollandaise sauce didn't have much flavor. Staff was accommodating and very knowledgeable of the menu. The decor and the ambuince of the place is nice! It gives me a cozy fancy vibe. There is also a wide spread bar if you prefer to sit there. The menu had a wide spread of variety of breakfast foods. I struggled trying to decide what I wanted because it all sounded so good. I ended up getting the chicken and waffle sliders. It was pretty good! I went here for today for a late lunch with family. It was a great experience for all. I choose the alcoholic lavender lemonade & it was SO good & refreshing. They have a wide selection of alcoholic beverages to satisfy any craving. I opted for the Short Rib Mac Melt, which was very tasty. I would say the one downside was the meat was tougher than I'd like on a sandwich. The macaroni was very tasty though, I just think the carnitas or a pulled pork would be an ever better combination. It's a very reasonable price especially coming with fries. My cousin's kid got the stuffed French toast which is gigantic & I think the biggest hype about it. I ordered the Scotch Egg with a Loaded omelet and homefries, hollandaise sauce on the side, and Lilly Mae's biscuits... My sister ordered calamari and Lilly Mae's biscuit's also. Everything was ready when we got there When we got there the parking lot was loaded... They were really busy today. Its our first time eating there so we didn't know what to expect. We were greeted right away and shown the bar so we could get our order. The bartender/cashier was nice when she checked us out. It was a little loud in there due to all the people there so i'm assuming this is the go to spot... The loaded omelet was very good with the hollandaise sauce.... That sauce really did the trick.. The scotch egg was $10, so after seeing the size of it i felt ripped off a bit... But after tasting it I know i'd get it again.. The sauce that came with it made it even better!! Food was subpar and that is just for what was given correctly. I came with my partner and friend and both of their orders were incorrect, cold- like had been in the fridge for an hour kind of cold, and overall not seasoned or flavorful at all. Both of them decided to not eat and we would have asked to have something else swapped out had we seen our waitress again. They swapped her for someone else after we waited almost 35 minutes to order drinks, finally ordered our food around the 1 hour mark of being there, received it about 45 minutes later and then had to ask someone else (this would've been the 3rd or 4th person we'd had to interact with) to get the check. Definitely not a fan. The building is crowded, uncomfortable and we were seated in a tucked away corner so we were easily forgotten. With all the other options in the area- this one doesn't even make it past Waffle House. read more
