My first day in Spokane! Stacey suggested the Satellite as she had been before - she said the has browns were fantastic! Turned out to be a sports bar - and PACKED and the Seahawks were playing. Apparently if you live in Spokane have you to be a Seahawks fanatic!! We waited an hour for food. Probably more. But the bloody Mary was perfect and the nicest staff ever!! I decided on the eggs Benny as our server said it was her favourite thing on the menu. Unfortunately although the taste was good, everything arrived lukewarm and the "crispy" hash browns were mainly white. And not hot. When you wait that long you want piping hot. Can we just take a moment to speak on the amazingness that is Lane C? I took my girlfriend out for her birthday. The staff, as expected, is ready to go home. Humans are assholes, and unfortunately out cooking staff has to put up with us. Lane was informed that we were out for a birthday celebration. Immediately we were seated and orders were taken. Lane is a golden god! Customer service is second to none when it comes to Lane. I haven't seen my family flown this much since we were experiencing electricity. I'm sorry to have to post this. Saw them listed on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. Looked so good. Decided to try them for brunch. Upon arrival, I was warned of a 30 minute wait just to get seated, and then up to an hour wait for food from when we're seated! No thanks... Went to Frank's Diner instead. What a machine! Reliable timing and delicious. Would definitely go back. Fast forward to late night dinner. Given they were still open, decided to try Satellite again. Was seated immediately which was great! Oh, but what a disappointment from there. Over one hour later, food finally arrived. The food itself was the saving grace (warranting the 2 stars I gave) but not enough for us to ever consider it a win. We will never be back. Their system is so incredibly broken. In addition to a clearly inefficient order management system (so much random paper!), I watched the cook staff and saw first-hand so clearly they were under-performing. Either under- qualified or perhaps so very over-worked (or just under- staffed?). Either way, the owner should be on top of this and address accordingly. It's worth noting the wait staff was super pleasant but were clearly powerless and certainly clueless on timing. Bottom line, avoid this place. Period. Note to owner: Please participate in your business to see first-hand the inefficiency with your operation. Took over 2hrs to get our food. My parking meter ran out before we got served. Restaurant was half full. We were there for breakfast and the waitperson offered us soup, the only thing ready made to tide us over. Not their fault, they were pleasant and apologetic. But we won't be back. Oh my goodness! I have to admit that I LOVE diner food, though living in Southern California, It's hard to find a hard-core diner!!! Well here it is folks, came here for a research conference and I believe I started out my trip with a highlight that will be tough to beat! I ordered the chicken fried steak which came with hash browns, 2 eggs, and your choice of bread which they of course butter up for you! Anyhow this was the best chicken fried steak you could imagine; nice and crispy on the outside, oh so moist, tender and well seasoned in the Inside with the right touch of kicked in spice! And that sausage gravy on top.... ohhh hell noooo.... and Mr. Hashbrowns? Delicious! Someone mentioned that they preferred theirs crispier, which I would have to agree, but they did it oh so perfectly that I have to hand it to the purists of this place. You are yummy. You make my tummy happy. Breakfast options are spot-on. Biscuits and gravy? More like a biscuit the size of your face, with an exceptional country gravy generously atop. Breakfast burrito is huge. For me, it took 2 sittings to finish. Haven't had cocktails there..... but even just peeking at a quick menu while waiting for take out( Which, BTW, they are very friendly and accommodating about!!!), I'll Definitely be stopping in to give a few to try, when I am in the mood for some libations. For being located in downtown Spokane, it's actually pretty easy to access parking. I have found a spot directly in front of the satellite, at all given time day or night, weekday and weekend. This felt like the most "diner" of diners. There were some tears in the booth seats and the kitchen is open to the rest of the place with a giant hood above the grill. There were three of us and we were very hungry, but I wasn't expecting to be wowed. I ordered the BLT (because: DINER!) and was blown away. It was the best BLT I have had in at least 30 years--the thick egg bread and perfectly cooked bacon were top contributors, but the sandwich was just phenomenal! I'm drooling just thinking about it. Awful breakfast experience. We were told it would be twenty minutes to get a seat. Once we set down we were then told we had an hour wait once we put our order in. Figured we already waited smelled great in there this will be okay. We ended up spending seventy dollars for breakfast. Honestly, we had a good time except for the staff. They were the rudest people I've dealt with. As in- looking us in the eye and telling us to get the eff out, even though it was before closing. They gave "last call" 10 minutes before they kicked people out. To which, we did not order another- but rather ordered our Uber and were still rudely told to leave immediately. We were neither disruptive or roudy. And I would not be writing this if we were either. It was just unfortunate treatment from the staff and I am both genuinely hurt and disappointed. This was an easy access from the Davenport Grand. Love the Messy and anything covered and smothered. Our service was good and at 130am most nights... it was awesome to find them open and serving. We still try to try new places here and there, but the satellite has become a regular (again because we used to frequent in our 20's) because she is phenomenal. we make it a point to sit in her area because she's so delightful! The atmosphere: typical American diner vibe. Good decorations to look at. It's a little bit greasy inside and dim. The diner is attached to a dive bar. The restroom has a fun surprise since the walls are chalkboard and you can draw on them. The wait: it's a little slow. We went at an off hour and there was only one other party in the diner. We ended up having to seat ourselves. We waited about 15 mins before someone noticed and came to take our order. The food came out quickly though. The great thing about this Diner is that it is downtown, and it is open late at night. If you are looking for something simple like food to soak up some beer or hard alcohol you will find it, and you will be happy here. Go much further than the chicken tenders and burgers however and you are getting into kind of gross food territory. Breakfast for dinner? Go for it! But really that doesn't merit more than three stars. Don't expect anything elaborate here, you won't get it.
