I have been here in multiple occasions and every time really enjoying the experience. Service was good and the food was excellent. The onion rings have a good flavor as does the calamari. I highly recommend the shrimp appetizer and lobster bisque as well. The perch sandwhich is on the smaller side, but tastes excellent. My wife enjoyed the Orange roughy and My daughter's meal was free. The establishment itself is a bit lacking in decor, but it does have a bit of a charm to it that is unique. Had supper at the Seafood Restaurant. Was very impressed. Food was all good from the fish Tacos to the fresh Lake Erie perch dinner. It definitely is not a 5star, decor is dated, kind of dark. But food is definitely good. Only downer was the noise. Accoustics was terrible, especially when you are sitting beside a puffy haired blonde who talked a mile a minute with a voice that would break glass. Oh well, take the good with the bad. We came here on the advice of my sister Nikki, who lives here. I on the other hand am from the East Coast; Providence, Rhode Island where we have some of the fine seafood. I was not excited when asking about the seafood was told that everything is flash frozen. That doesn't make it necessarily bad but as we discovered however, as the food came out, the grouper, frog legs, shrimp, scallops were all somewhat dry, especially the Grouper. Even the crab cakes...Why, with a seafood platter would you not include drawn butter? That would have made everything more moist and butter makes everything taste better. It was very crowded too, they didn't seem to be sectioning people off because of the covid guidelines. The Seafood has been around for a long time. Their food is the same as when I had eaten there in the 80's the decor seems to fit the times as well. Great seafood and steaks but the sides lacked quality. Old baked potato, bottled tin flavored coleslaw sadly not homemade. Great service over took the outdated decor which was fast and friendly. My mom rarely gets to go out, and even more rarely gets to have seafood, so last summer when we were in town, we took her here, which was a place I vaguely remembered from childhood. More hometown than even Red Lobster is what I would call this place, and the menu is expansive. This is not sophisticated seafood by any stretch of the imagination, but they serve a lot of it and it is downright cheap. We have leftovers, which isn't exactly great with seafood, but you definitely get bang for your buck. The staff was very nice and similarly homey. No complaints with service on a night when the house was packed. The food was fine. Solid, not revelatory, frequently fried, and did I mention dirt cheap? But the 2 stars is for the oysters, which were really unforgivable. They were similarly ridiculously cheap at $19/dozen. Which is why we ordered 2 dozen on the half shell--we almost never have the opportunity to order that many oysters in one sitting due to cost. And the oysters we were served were absolutely enormous, the biggest I have ever seen. However, they were served lukewarm, which was straight-up disgusting and frankly made us pretty concerned we were going to have a righteous case of food poisoning later (which thankfully we did not). Further, I have never, ever seen oysters presented this way, it was pretty shocking, actually. Our fav oyster accompaniment is mignonette, which of course was not served, and which my waitress could not even comprehend enough to ask the kitchen to make when I explained the ingredients (I think I lost her at "shallots"). So, if anyone who actually works in the kitchen is reading this, even without mignonette, please FOR THE LOVE OF GOD serve those beautiful, giant raw oysters on a bed of ice and NEVER let them get warm. I don't even know where to begin. I went with two other people. I will say the place is clean and pleasant and the wait staff was courteous, professional and helpful. And it kind of went downhill from there. One member of our party ordered fish and chips. It was allegedly perch....very tiny perch. He got 4 one inch wide and 3 inch long strips of fish and a ton of lukewarm curly fries. This cost him 11.95 My other dining companion and I both ordered the "House Club" sandwich...and oh what a disaster that turned out to be. When our sandwiches came...mine had been assembled on wheat bread with turkey, swiss cheese, tomato and limp lettuce and hers had been assembled on rye bread with ham, bacon, swiss, tomato and limp lettuce. Anyone who is familiar with a club sandwich knows that you're supposed to get turkey AND ham, unless otherwise specified. I suggested to my companion that we reassemble our sandwiches since they were obviousy wrong. She wanted nothing to do with that because she was very content with double ham, double bacon. So I sent mine back and the sandwich came back half its original size because I got only half the regular amount of ham added and still no bacon. By this time my fries were freezing cold and I was fed up. The waitress apologized profusely and did not charge me for the meal, for which I am grateful. Now I realize this is a seafood restaurant and club sandwiches are not their specialty, but really? How hard is it to put together a club sandwich???? The waitress said she was surprised because this was done by one of their best sandwich makers. As my dining companion said to me "Thank God you got their sandwich expert or think of how bad it could have been?" Boggle the imagination. read more

We have been eating fish on Fridays during lent. Today we ordered from our old stand-by, The Seafood in Sylvania. One person had French onion soup, which had a moderate amount of cheese and was tasty. His shrimp cocktail contained firm, but small shrimp in a delectable sauce. He had a fried shrimp dinner and crispy hash browns and enjoyed it all. I had a tossed salad loaded with plain iceberg lettuce, 2 cucumber slices, 1 cherry tomato, and some mushy croutons. My bourbon salmon was sweet and flakey. I asked for sweet potato fries, but got hash browns. The third person in our party had lobster bisque which had a good flavor, but hardly enough lobster. He asked for coleslaw, but got another lettuce bowl! His broiled scallops were tender and good. He also had some tasty, soft bread with butter. We had enough lemon, butter, and cocktail sauce. The food itself was good, but not epic for the price of nearly $110 before tip. We could carry out from Sidelines or the Black Pearl for an equal meal for quite a bit less. This place has gone straight down hill. I remember coming here 10, 20 and even 30 years ago. There was a time I would eagerly take guests here for the fried perch and pickerel, but that day is long gone. I ordered to go last night. The perch were fried so long they were dry little chips. Inedible. The pickerel was fair, but nothing to get excited about. I suspect it had been frozen. No excuse for that around here. Both perch and pickerel come straight out of Lake Erie. On the plus side, we all enjoyed our salads. Not very happy since I spent $85 on three dinners to go. In the future I'll just drive over to DeMores in Sandusky when I want old fashioned fish fry. This restaurant has been there for decades and is a neighborhood mainstay. That being said, looking at the food and the interior you get the feeling they figured out how they were going to do things in the 1960's and kept it that way. Menu offerings and food are very dated and bland. Grouper seemed like it was frozen as it was dry. Shrimp was over cooked to the point of being like chewing a pencil eraser. The perch seemed fresh but unseasoned and bland. A salad comes with the entree which obviously comes out of a pre-made bag, is covered with store-bought croutons and covered in canned beets. We received a basket of bread filled with those old fashioned Lance bread stick packs as well as a loaf of warm marble rye bread...with a stale slice of bread I assume from another table tucked underneath. Butter is in those tiny 1/2 pat packs that you need to open 4 of to butter a slice of bread. The dining room is fairly small but for some reason the 4-5 wait staff seemed to be overworked. On the upside their clam chowder is fantastic and tasted fresh. The bar menu had some interesting offerings as well. Soft shell crab were on the menu and they were also well prepared (the sauce they were served with was a bit odd though). My honest suggestion: send the kitchen staff to a few other restaurants in different cities to see how things are being done now. Food trends for the last 15 years have been "make it fresh and simple." A good indication you're not following market trends is if your clientele seem to be getting older and older because they're coming to your restaurant out of habit rather than fantastic food. Frozen seafood = dry seafood...if you can't get it fresh, don't serve it. A fresh salad placed on a plate with homemade dressings is quick, easy, and makes a great first impression! If you're serving baked bread, get rid of the prepackaged breadsticks- or make your own breadsticks! Learn about basting and using herbs on your fish offerings! Get some passion back into the food so people get passionate about eating there again! read more

I've had an interest in Toledo's restaurant history that has been steadily growing over the past few years. I've been attempting to explore our more hidden gems, especially ones that have stood the test of time. The Seafood is a place I've been wanting to try for a while now, learning that it's a decades-old staple for Toledo's more....wise....generation. What I'm saying is this place is for old people. Straight up. I like it that way. The vibe is really cool. No frills. What you see is what you get and what you get happens to be pretty damn sick. I kicked it off with clam chowder which has to be amongst Toledo's best. The Caesar salad was great. That's a must. For my entree, I rolled with the 6 oz. filet mignon and a baked potato. Both were pretty good but loses them a star because the filet was a bit underdone. Straight up though...I loved the place and highly recommend it to anyone with a love for Toledo and its "in the know" dinner spots. read more

This is my go-to-on-my-birthday place. I love the fish, I love the home fries,and they have the best blue cheese dressing and croutons for their salad. Old fashioned bread basked with hot bread, crackers and bread sticks in assorted flavor. When you walk in the place, look at the menu and get your food, you are time warped back to the 1970s. My spouse and I ate here for the first time Friday, June 14th. There was a wait, but it was minimal and we hadn't called and made reservations. We were seated after about 20 minutes, much less than we had anticipated, so that was great. The server came around and took our drink order pretty quickly and brought us back some pumpernickel bread that had been sitting in a bread warmer and some 1970s throwback breadsticks. Regardless, I was still hopeful. We ordered the crabcake appetizer and they sure had a lot of crab in them, unfortunately, it tasted a little off. The server began taking our entree order and I ask her if the calamari was fresh and she tells me no, its frozen. She then offers, "actually, all of our seafood is frozen." Ugghhh. I order the perch, my spouse gets the Ahi Tuna. We leave without dessert. This place is very overpriced for frozen fish, cole slaw that comes out a giant plastic bucket, and bland, overcooked side dishes. read more

We have been going to The Seafood for several years and love their food, the wait staff and the hostess/owner is great also. I must confess most times we usually have perch broiled with lemon pepper flavoring. It is delicious and rather than fried it is a great way to experience the full flavor of perch. Their home fries or hash browns with onions added are a perfect side and they have a generous salad that also accompanies the meal. Try the peal and eat shrimp as an appetizer. They are huge and prepared just right and they will give you individual containers of cocktail sauce which is perfect for double dipping! The wait staff are friendly and well trained and do a great job in accomodating your every need. The hostess and owner is very professional and good at what she does. There may be a wait if you don't have reservations but she will usually give you a good estimate of the wait time and then make sure you get a table as soon as possible.
