We ordered the mandu, kimbap and kalbi to dine in. You have to order at the register and then a robot brings your food out. We wanted to share but there were no share plates. My sister also wanted some sauce so I went back to the register to ask for some plates and sauce but the only front man was in the back talking to the cook. I could see him from a distance and tried to wave to get his attention but he was completely unaware of my presence. After standing there and waving my arms for a couple minutes to no avail, I finally whistled (which i hated to do) in order to get his attention. Felt a little ridiculous to have to do that to get a couple plates and some sauce. Food was decent and I recommend the the mandu but nothing to write home about. read more

Out of all the Korean restaurants here in Portland, this is by far the best one I've been to. The food reminds me of home, their service is amazing, and the ambiance here is immaculate. Returned on multiple occasions and am happy to report this place is still amazingly great. They grow all their own microgreens on premises and the food is remarkably fresh and delicious. I have explored new dishes since my obsession with their beef bulgogi bim bim bap. Recently the soondubu. Jjigae (a wonderful silky tofu soup), the japae noodles and the fried chicken sandwich have made me super happy. And on game day their beef bulgogi chili fries are so delicious and fun! The restaurant is own and run by an incredibly friendly Korean family with mom cooking in the back and the father and son running the place creating a friendly/homey ambiance with good service. They have recently expanded into the old Uno Mas space in the Civic. The greens were tasty, and everything was seasoned/textured to mouth watering deliciousness. Very cool seeing the greens growing right next to us on the window sill. Our favorite part was probably the chicken. While it is smaller in size, the crisp outside, and flavor-packed bites meant the bones were picked clean. All I had was the kalbi and the kimbap. Both were exquisite. You can taste the marinade in the kalbi and the meat was tender and juicy, especially with the fat from it. I am not one to eat the fat off of meat but this kalbi was a game changer that the fat made it taste even better. The service was quick and easy. The Soop is a great addition to the area. I've been wanting to try this for a while but it's often really crowded around games with long waits for food, so glad to finally get to try it. It's low key with a clean aesthetic and they even grow their own micro greens, which you can see in the window. I tried the kimbap and dolsot bibimbap. You order at the counter (and can add additional items from the table) then a robot waiter brings out the dishes, that's why it's important to not switch seats if you order from the table. While ordering is a breeze, the service was a little slow to get the meal. However, the food was all very fresh and delicious and I was joyfully surprised by the robot waiter. Vegitable kimpop had perfectly light seasoning. If you like things salty, you can deep into soy sauce. However I think you can taste the ingredients better as is. Interesting place that grows plants indoors. It's not that big inside but they have plenty of seats outside if you have a big group. Decently clean and organized, not too crazy. I got the japchae which was a first for me. I added spicy pork (which was definitely medium level as he indicated) and bulgogi. It filled me up pretty well and I had a bit of leftovers. I think the Soop is hands down the best Korean restaurant in central Portland. Everything is fresh and tasty, down to greens grown at the restaurant and homemade kimchi and gochuchong sauce. Recently I've been coming here for coffee. The have good cold brew for the hot summer months, but surprisingly they also offer siphon coffee. It's kind of like a chemistry experiment making great coffee. I've had siphon coffee in other cities (and in another country) but this is the only place I've seen it brewed in Portland. Definitely an interesting twist to the Korean food menu. read more

The Dolsot is my go to dish to fight the winter temperatures. It comes out sizzling, and the rice is still cooking while I'm eating so the bottom becomes nicely grilled once I get there, like a rice burger patty. Owners are so nice. They are also one of the very few places in Portland that offer coffee brewed via Siphon. It's the cleanest cup you'll ever taste. Highly recommend, and thankful to have them in Goose Hollow. read more

Both me an my friend came in here to charge up our mobility scooter which they allowed. While charging we thought we'd charge our bodies with food. I ordered the Japchae with pork bulgogi. When the food arrived in the table I noticed that all I had was noodles. It was delish btw but I ordered it with meat. It was hard to get someone's attention because they had a robot server. The girl would come out to help the robot serve the food but she would quickly go back into the kitchen. Nobody around to notify of the error made. So I had to get up and walk up to the counter where again nobody was standing. It took me a while to peer into the kitchen to get the owners attention. Once I did he got the girl to come out and ask what was wrong. So I advised. She said I got the wrong order which I already knew. Anyway hungry as I was I started eating the noodles and half way through the meat came in a small bowl. So towards finishing my dish all was left was the meat. A little disappointing although I have to say the food was great. It's a quiet atmosphere but they were playing elevator music a bit loud. So I'm on the fence to give this a recommendation. What a find! Housegrown micro greens became the best bibimbap I have ever had. The robot waiter adds a layer of whimsy to the experience of eating at The Soop but the staff was also very friendly. I couldn't resist the siphon coffee that I saw on the menu.
