I kept hearing mixed reviews about this reatraraunt for years. So my friend and I decided to go here for lunch. It was the worst experience I ever encountered! From the waitress/manager to the food. The waitress/manager was the rudest person I ever encountered in food service. I worked in fine dining for many, many years. Our baked potatoes were cold and hard as a rock! I asked if the potatoes were from the night before and she said No. That was simply a lie! We asked for hot potatoes and we were told it would take 8 minutes. 8 minutes while the food we ordered, sat on our table getting colder and colder. We had ordered shrimp. Needless to say, the shrimp were tastless. No seasonings at all! The waitress did confirm this, as we brought it to her attention. She charged me $25 for 3 shrimp and a cup of soup. She didn't care if the food was good, or cold! She also refused to let the chef know. She just wanted the check to be paid. She never asked if everything was okay. She then argued with us. She agrued with my friend about several food items and basically accused her of being a liar! There were other people eating in the restaurant and over heard everything! She was rude to an elderly gentleman as well. He was celebrating his 80th birthday! I was astonished of her remark! I can't understand why any restaurant would have this women representing them in any position in their company!! Word is mouth is a powerful tool. We will never go there again!! read more

Nice setting with dark, intimate feel. While I liked the darker lighting, a few at our table felt it was too dark. My meal (Seafood Combo) was very good overall. While no one seafood item jumped out as fantastic, the entire meal as a whole was very good. The French Onion Soup and the Hash Browns were wonderful. read more

The service was great, friendly and attentive. The food was outdated and bland. The menu is somewhat misleading, as I ordered the walleye which was stated as being pan fried, but came out breaded and deep fried. It was just boring. For a restaurant in the middle of nowhere to offer no happy hours or specials and have prices comparable to say The Capitol Grille in downtown Milwaukee is just asking for failure, I'm surprised it's lasted this long. Yesterday was our anniversary, and this place was recommended to us. First an foremost, I don't understand why you need to make a reservation when they aren't prompt about it. As we were seated, I see the waitresses working VERY hard, running back and forth, but what really threw me through the roof was while they are "cleaning" these tables (especially during pandemic) that they just flip the table cloths around the opposite way.. using the same ones for different customers REPEATEDLY. Anyways, for spending over a hundred dollars for two people, you would think that you would be served better bread and butter. Mind you, it was cold and tasted VERY old.. not house made. And the butter was also cold, and hard as a brick. How did you expect us to spread it??? When I received the filet mignon, it was so rough on the outside, and overly charred. My "steamed broccoli" was basically raw, and room temperate, and my baked potato was dry. So overall, I don't know what the hype was about. You guys have old windows on the outside that obviously need to be updated, and I'm pretty positive you have the money for it, CONSIDERING what you charge for what you call food. You have paint chipping on your walls, and your servers are overworked, obviously because they barely stop to check on their tables. Lower your prices and get better cooks. read more

It's not Morton's or Eddie Martini's, but oddly enough the steak is always good. That means a lot these days. Mark this place for bulletproof, reasonable priced meal, with good service. Ambiance is basically white tablecloth over small table dimly lit (dark), but nothing romantic hear. Well, there was that time where I was in the middle of my steak, and a one man band started up in the bar. That sure kicked off a night of fun and dancing - so you never know. I have to start by saying we went on Valentine's Day and it was a Saturday so it was packed. We had a reservation at 5pm and got there 5 minutes early. We had to sit at the bar for a few minutes, but it was to be expected given the circumstances. They sat us at a tiny table for two. Our waitress came promptly to ask us for our drink order. I'm the type of person who likes to know what I'm ordering for dinner before picking my drink, so I ordered a water to start and started looking at the dinner menu. Typical steak place with not much else on the menu. My coworker recommended the filet mignon to me and since I typically like that cut, I ordered the junior filet. My husband ordered his favorite cut, the ribeye. I realized about then that I hadn't seen a wine list or drink menu, so I had to ask the waitress for one. I ordered a glass of Cabernet to complement my steak. The waitress brought out bread to start with which was cold. But not just room temperature cold, like almost freezer cold. Which is odd because I overheard the waitress telling another guest they get it from a bakery on Oklahoma. It would take ten seconds to warm that bread up in a microwave. I don't care how busy you are-I can wait ten extra seconds. Then our salads came. I have never had such white iceberg lettuce in my life. No green at all. Just white. The one tomato wedge was mealy and the Italian dressing tasted like Kraft. So by now my husband and I were thinking what the hell are we doing here. I still hadn't gotten my glass of wine and when the waitress cleared away our salad plates. My husband asked about my wine and she said she knew and that it was coming. Well then our steaks came. Still no wine. I couldn't wait and so I cut into one. Perfect medium cook (I had them butterfly it). This steak was amazing. One of the top three filets I've ever eaten in my life. My husband agreed. It was melt in your mouth good. I was enjoying my steak but didn't get my wine until at least a quarter of the way through. When it came there were tiny pieces of cork floating in it. But whatever, it was good wine and it went perfectly with my delicious steak. I got potato wedges and they were good, but the steak was the hero. My husbands opinion of his ribeye was definitely not the same as my filet. He said it was cooked perfectly, but a bad cut and not at all seasoned. We had no salt and pepper on our table so we had to steal some from the table next to us. Awkward. We will not be back despite my amazing filet. It wasn't enough with all of the negatives. Too bad too because you could tell the guy grilling up the steaks was really great and knew exactly what he was doing, but everything else just let us down. read more

This is the restaurant that we've driven past hundreds of times and always said "we have to try this place sometime", and always forget. Well, today was the day. A spontaneous visit as our nights out often are. We called in advance to see if we needed reservations for a table of 2, and were told it is strongly recommended. So we did. We got there about 1/2 hour early, and they were able to seat us right away. Bonus! Now on to the part you've been waiting for...the food. It was all delicious! My husband asked, why does everything taste better at a supper club? It was so true! From the homemade parm peppercorn dressing on my salad, to the croutons, the relish tray (the freshest, crispest carrot sticks I've ever had, and the green onions that we dipped in salt just like my grandpa used to), to the lobster tail that melted in my mouth, and the steamed broccoli that was bright green and steamed to perfection! While there are a lot of traditional heavy wisconsin foods on the menu, it is still possible to eat healthy also. Bonus again! Went last weekend and couldn't have been more pleased with the food, atmosphere, and service. For an appetizer, a friend and I shared a pan fried shrimp cocktail and some garlic bread. The garlic bread was tasty and the shrimp cocktail had the most uniquely thin and crispy crust I've ever had. For dinner, I enjoyed the 14oz filet mignon while a friend tasted the grilled salmon. Both tasted simply delicious, especially after one of the best french onion soups I've had in Milwaukee. I opted for the potato wedges which were a perfect side, while my friend had a well crisped hash brown which also tasted very well. I'm a foodie and frequent the chic, new-age restaurants downtown like Sake Tumi, Carnevor, and Bacchus quite often. All are great, however, I've never appreciated such simple, rustic flavors as I have the Steakout. We left very pleased and have already made reservations for this weekend. It's a great place down south to retreat from the overly complicated and technical dishes that have swooned Milwaukee Chefs during the past 5 or so years. Last year my wife and I went to get steaks for our anniversary and our waitress misunderstood our order and gave us a senior filet instead of a junior filet. We called in advance for a 7:30 reservation & left our phone number. We arrived at the restaurant at @ 7:10 to find the place packed solid and were told we did not have a reservation. The hostess said she would get us in a "just a short wait". We finally got seats at the bar around 7:45 so I went to inform the hostess. She said great and asked if we still wanted a table for dinner! We finally got a table at 8:20. W waited for a server and when she finally came over she informed us that they were up of prime rib, which was why we went there. We selected different items which were poorly prepared. Steaks were way over-seasoned with some kind of spice and an excessive amount of salt. I ordered pan-fried shrimp which came breaded and considerably underdone. Sever never asked if we wanted more drinks or wine with our dinner. Just a bad experience! Will not go there again. read more

We ate here recently for the first time, and man was it delicious! The filets and ribeye were cooked perfectly. The amount of food you get for the price is great. We left full and happy! Our server was very attentive, and everyone who worked there was very nice. We've never had stronger martinis - don't let the small glasses fool you, they kicked our asses. So if you don't want to feel like you're three sheets to the wind after one, I'd suggest you drink something else. I won't be getting a martini here again, but it's a good bang for your buck if you're looking for booze. Two other people had old fashioneds and said they were great. Most places you go, you don't hear raves about the house salads, but half our group had them and said they were super fresh and very tasty. The only thing we weren't a fan of at our meal was the french onion soup. The broth tasted like chicken ramen flavor instead of a beef base. Otherwise, it was a great meal. I can't fault a place for being overly boozy, and french onion can be hard to nail perfectly, so I will give them 5 stars to keep up the good rating since we can't do a 4.5 stars (comon yelp, give us that option). I've eaten here periodically over the last 15 years or so. I'm not a regular but maybe about once a year. The bar is overseen by what I believe is the brother-in-law of the owner. He's a very friendly young man of Asian heritage. The drinks are kind of watered down and they should put some peanuts or something on the bar. The Hostess, I was told the sister-in-law of the owner, is friendly but maybe it's a cultural thing but she didn't really connect with our group of 9 and came across as a bit flustered. I was most recently there on a busy Saturday night and the place was packed with regulars who mostly appeared middle aged or older. Our waitress was the wife of the owner and she was attentive and friendly. Members of our group mostly had steaks and I had grilled salmon. The relish tray, a mainstay of Wisconsin Super Clubs, was a bit skimpy but met our needs. I do love seeing the chefs prepare the grilled foods and I'm told it's the owner who mans the grill. Service was great with no complaints. They provide good sized portions and the prices are fair for the amount of food provided. My salmon was very good but not memorable compared to other restaurants. We sat in the bar for quite some time after dinner and live music and the Badger Game provided great entertainment in addition to people watching. I'd certainly eat there again but I think the competition from the new Bartolotta Supper Club in Greendale may eat away at their younger base. They should maybe take some tips from what the Bartolotta's are doing. read more

My wife and I were in the mood for a fish fry and we hadn't tried The Steakout since moving to Greendale. My wife's first bite was fishy tasting. Mine was not, but the heavy batter was bland and gave the fish the consistency of rubber. The fish fry comes with waffle fries....those were very underdone. I ate a few out of desperation. My wife substituted a pasta with red sauce. The pasta was soggy and limp. The service was good and the other customers seemed to be enjoying themselves. Still, I'm not likely to give it another shot. First of all, our server rushed us from the time we sat down until the end when the server asked us to leave because we were "staying too long", even though we had paid the bill and tipped her quite generously. I grew up in Milwaukee and always make it a point to stop in for dinner whenever I'm back in the City. What I particularly love, aside from the food, is how welcome this place makes me feel. Much of this I attribute to Andrew - the owner and chef. It's very important to him that you fully enjoy your experience and meal at The Steakout which I've found is an increasingly rare characteristic among restaurants. With regard to the food, the filet mignon is my go-to dinner meal. It was fantastic during my last visit, as it is always. They spoiled my birthday!! My husband called two weeks ahead to reserve a table. He let them know that it was for the day of my birthday and asked for a romantic table near the grill so we could watch the chef and hold hands (even after 20 years we are still like newlyweds). I work second shift and my husband is involuntarily unemployed, so not only did I have to take a day off of work, but money is VERY tight. Even so, we came prepared to spend money and really enjoy my special evening. We started out by having a drink at the bar. That was the ONLY enjoyable part of the night. When we went to the host to let him know we were ready to be seated, he led us to a table along the outside wall, as far from the chef as was possible. The table was set so that we had to sit across from each other, so there would be no handholding tonight!! Once we sat down we noticed that five tables were pushed together between our table and the grill to accommodate a large party. They were seated shortly after we were and immediately became so boisterous that we couldn't hear each other if we tried to talk. Apparently, they ordered fish frys for everyone in their party. No intimate conversations for us tonight, either! We decided to make the best of things anyway, since I don't get many evenings off, and ordered a $27.00 house-special filet for each of us. We both love our steaks medium-rare and were looking forward to a great treat. When the dinners arrived, my steak was completely undercooked and cold in the middle. My husband's was fine, he said. I sent mine back and when it finally was re-served, it was the same steak, black on the outside and barely more cooked on the inside!!!! I told the waitress and she made excuses for the chef, but did nothing more about it. So I picked at a third of it and had the rest bagged (so I could give it to my neighbor's dog). It wasn't good when it was freshly prepared (and then re-prepared), so there is no way it could be any good re-heated yet again. Now for the kicker!! We had been steaming mad because they had failed to make a notation on the reservation about the special evening, but we figured at least it wasn't the fault of the staff working tonight. All of a sudden, the waitress comes out with a piece of cake, candle blazing, and sets it in front of MY HUSBAND, saying Happy Birthday Jim!! We lost our patience and let her know just how far wrong the night had gone with each and every step of the process, and she looked surprised as she scurried away, cake in hand. She came back with the bill and in spite of everything; it was full price for both meals. She must have realized her tip was in jeopardy at that point because it was only then that she apologized for the host, the chef and said that when she looked up the reservation, there was an obvious note about my husband's request. We will not be going there to celebrate any more special events any time soon. The place seems to be geared more toward a barroom fish-fry these days rather than an elegant dinner place. I could have gone to Chuck E. Cheese's if I had wanted to yell to my husband and eat poorly cooked food. Just a great place! The ambiance in Steakout is fantastic. White table cloth dining but without the stiffness and price tag. We went on a Saturday night which I assume is their busiest night and even though they were jam packed the service was the best in town. Everyone was so friendly and cordial. I'm not a big fan of red meat so I went with their grilled salmon and the only salmon I've had that compares was in California. My wife said her 10 oz. Filet was excellent as well. If you're looking for a great place to bring friends or that romantic night out, the steak out in Greendale is perfect. read more

I was there tonight with my wife who has an allergy to gluten. We ordered steaks and were assured there was no gluten on the mushrooms that came with it. She is now sick which ruined our night. Now let's get to the food. I ordered a medium steak that was well done. My wife ordered a medium well steak and it was well done. I brought this to the waitress's attention and she offered a new steak. I was already paying for a babysitter and didn't want to wait another 20 minutes for another one. She said she would see what she could do for us. The bill was what we ordered. I will never go there again and let as many people know as I can about what a terrible steak they make. It probably wouldn't have been good if cooked correctly. Bad pieces of meat. Go down the street to Joey Gerard's if you are needing a steak in close vicinity.
