The steakout does it right! Another family owned restaurant that serves it community with pride. If you cannot tell, I love to visit locally owned and operated restaurants. Why spend on our money on big chains when the money we spend can go back into our small communities. I have been here twice. Once for fish dry that I ate at the bar and one time for a steak in the dining room. Both were absolutely fantastic. The fish fry is what ever Wisconsinite comes to love! And when I ate in the dining room, my filet was absolutely delicious! The service on both occasions was fantastic - and the beautiful ladies behind the bar was a very nice touch! Classy too! Not the best experience. We have always read one of the best steak spots in Milwaukee. So maybe our expectations were high. Very sweet server, But got our order wrong a couple times. Ordered 3 French onion soup (which were Great), She brought 2 and a chicken noodle. My husband had ordered shrimp added on to his ribeye that never came. She didn't recal us ordering the missed items. Our boys like some pink to their steak. They came charred, well. They left hungry. Incredible! Stopped for lunch as we were passing through, just stumbled across this gem of a place. Had prime rib sandwich & smothered chicken sandwich. Excellent food! Responsibly priced. Every year I go here for my birthday dinner for the Steak and Lobster and Godfather martini. It never disappoints. Not only is the food excellent but the waitstaff.. bartenders and everyone else that works there really makes this place special. We were in the mood for an old school steak dinner and decided on The Steakout based on proximity and great Yelp reviews. The Steakout did not disappoint! Despite being a Saturday night walk-in, we were seated quickly. First impression: the restaurant is a little dark, but it worked well with the cozy, homespun thing they've got going on. We ordered drinks and our very nice server came by a few minutes later with bread and butter, and a very Wisco relish tray consisting of a few carrots, pickles, olives, peppers and ice cubes to keep it all nice and cold. We got onion rings for an app and they were lit. Every ring was super crunchy and paired well with their homemade ranch. The French onion soup - bubbly, savory and lightly sweet owing to the caramelized onions - was another home run. And the steaks? On point. My husband ordered the porterhouse and claims it's one of the best he's had. I got the ribeye, and it was buttery, tender and perfectly medium. My side of hashbrowns was also cooked to perfection - crispy on the outside, tender on the in. All in, our bill was $120 and some change, which I found reasonable for a mega steak dinner, apps, drinks and sides. The Steakout is what some in Wisconsin would consider a supper club. It is a family owned business. You will likely be greeted or served by the wife. Your meal will be prepared by the husband or his son. If you look around the Milwaukee area you will likely not find better steak prices. I have been coming here for years and will continue to come back. My suggestion is if you're not a person who likes a good char crust on your steak to ask for light char. Nothing shrimpy about these shrimp! We had the shrimp cocktail (chilled) to start things off. They were perfectly prepared and so big! Our appetizer foreshadowed what to expect from my grilled shrimp entree...5 more giant shrimp! Also perfectly prepared; firm but not over cooked with a nice char from the open grill. Probably one of the best shrimp meals I've ever had. Not realizing that the shrimp would be so filling, I also ordered the a-la-cart lobster tail (5 oz) which was not only not needed but also wasn't all that great. It was mushy and lacked the sweetness and snap I was looking forward too. For me it just wasn't worth the extra $19. My husband had the filet (7 oz) with more gigantic shrimp; tender steak and more yummy shrimp = winning! Baked potatoes, bread basket, salad, relish tray, and creamy clam chowder - everything you want from a Wisconsin supper club! If I could give a negative star I would. This is the second time we had a reservation and it was 20 minutes after our reservation time and we were still waiting for or table. We checked in a half hour before. We went to the bar, had terrible service there. . I finally went to the hostess station after 20 minutes after our reservation time. Hostess said she would seat us I said no we were canceling our reservation as this was the second time this has happened. She didn't seem to care. A classic supper club! This place was a packed house with a full bar. Make a reservation if you want to eat here or you may have to go away hungry. A large party of 12 of us showed up for a 7pm dinner and after about 20 minutes our table was ready to go. We had all indulged in some cocktails at the bar and everyone was pleased with that. I ordered a nice scotch and got a massive pour. The gf had some old fashioneds and claimed to be some of the best she's ever had. Though she admits to a hard day so perhaps that helped a little. This is naturally... a steak place! So I and many others had steaks that were pretty good. Not holy cow amazing, but just good char grill steaks that don't need anything else. A number of folks went with the fish fry that looked good and the vegetarian of our group was able to order a number of sides as a meal. She had pasta, baked potato, vegetables and maybe one other thing and left full. We had great service and they made things easy for our large group. It had been a long time since I've been to this restaurant. Tonight I had the king cut prime rib along with hash browns and sauteed mushrooms. For a King cut I was expecting a little bigger size then I received. It was done just right but was not as hot as I would've liked it. The hash browns we're an interesting twist but very good. It was a little dark in the restaurant you couldn't really see your food I think they went overboard on ambience. The waitress was outstanding ,friendly and very efficient. The ambience of the whole place was enjoyable. The lounge singer for the night was entertaining and sang classic songs. I'm not a French onion soup kind of person, but I got it with my entree to try and I will admit, it was the best French onion soup I've ever tried. I got the filet steak and it was cooked perfectly. So, Tonight was my wife and my 24th anniversary. We (I) felt it was a great idea to choose the Steakout, as it was where we had gone when we started dating. I made reservations for 6:30 by calling well ahead (11:00 a.m.). We showed up 5 minutes early. Told to grab a drink while our table was readied. 30 minutes later, I asked the hostess what order we were in, and told we were 2nd. I could tell the hostess was stressed. Anyhow, around 10 minutes later, another couple approached the hostess and she broke down crying and ran to the restroom. This wasn't her issue. Now it's been an hour and after seeing 3-4 groups / couples get seated, I went up again. Another couple was complaining indicating they had same reservations as us. At that time, we were told we were next. Anyhow, after 15 more minutes, and seeing the hostess break down 2 more times, I stepped up and took our name off the list and left. This was 7:45. My wife and I attempted to go to 3 other restaurants, but without reservations, we ended up eating fast food. Again, this was no fault of the hostess, but it was definitely the issue of management regarding overbooking. Had dinner here on a Saturday night and it was a full house. It is a large place with a good sized bar area that also has live music playing. It is definitely an old school steak house- with relish trays, good sized portions and an older crowd that has probably been eating there for decades. I did think it was strange that a month after Xmas they still had all their decorations up though... I had the Jr Filet which was 10oz and it was very good but perhaps a little more rare than the medium I requested. Came with a choice of sides (there were MANY options) and I had the garlic pasta which was good as well. The others at my table had ribs (verdict was they were so-so), Lemon Chicken with Capers (very good) and the special of the night that was Sicilian Steak (also good). Both Chicken Noodle and house French Onion soups were delicious and served with warm bread. The staff was friendly and attentive. The noise level was pretty high- especially because we were next to a table of 25 with screaming small children. Went out for our anniversary and haven't been to Steakout for about 25 years. It's your basic neighborhood supper club type place where all the of the older people like to hang out and bring their families. Menu selection is good. Service was good. This place is apparently pretty busy because there was a constant turn around of people in and out and I'm not sure why. Perhaps because its unique for it's area and has a "name" in the community. The bar is a hot spot but the drinks are weak. My overall impression was "meh". I have had better steaks elsewhere, especially for the price. The relish tray was humorous (2 pickles, 2 carrot sticks and 2 onions) The bread basket was 3 pieces of bread that was stale. Back to the steak. The steak was ok, just ok. They cook it so it's charred on the outside and supposed to be tender on the inside but it actually tasted more like pot roast, not steak. Disappointed. I have to be fair to the fact that if I have not had steaks at other places which I consider my favorites now, I'm sure this would have been much better to me but I will not be returning anytime soon. read more

My family has been coming here for years and I love the steakout! I have gotten to know much of the staff and they know me too, so it is very nice to walk in to a place that knows your drink and what you want to eat! For appetizers I love the Pizza Bread! Its a large order, so plan to split it with the table! For dinner, I have had everything form Friday Fish Fry, to sandwiches, to thier Filet Mignon. Each time has been delicious! Live music on the weekends is already very nice! They even have a dancefloor, but I have never seen anyone on it. read more

Great tasting steaks,..... BUT.... I watched the chef cook the whole time I was there facing him. Over seasoning with some kind of mix in a shaker, pouring melted butter from a pot all over each steak at the time of serving. I know NOW to ask for the chef not to do that!!! He never washed his hands the whole time I was there, just wiped them on his apron!!! slapping steaks on the grill with them even after touching his face!!! I went here to meet with some customers this past week on the recommendation of said customer who lives in the area. It's a supper club whatever that means although I hear that word a lot when in the area. We don't have them at home....I suppose it means that you get a relish tray before the meal. It's an old building / restaurant that has some wear on it. We sat at the bar and enjoyed a few cocktails before dinner. When we were seated that have a maily meat centric focused menu. We ordered appetizers of zucchini sticks and mushrooms. The zucchini sticks came out piping hot and the mushrooms were more of a side dish and not that wonderful. My 14 oz fillet came out perfect. It was seasoned well and cooked to perfection which is hard to do with a thick cut like this fillet. These guys know what they're doing! We were seated by the grill in the back and I didn't realize how hot I was until the end of the meal, but cooled off quickly in the fall like night air. All in all, a solid choice for a good steak and sides. read more

I know people like that but it wasn't like I ordered it medium well or well done). So the first bite wasn't the best but as I continued on through the steak it started to taste slightly better. Overall, it was just an OK steak especially for the price (which I'd say is mid-range for steakhouse). The steamed broccoli was... well... steamed broccoli.. I thought places usually season their vegetables with something but not this time. Just steamed broccoli. :-) My parents who were with me on this experience I believe enjoyed their meals a little better than I did. My dad got the prime rib and my mother tried out Lemon Chicken with capers. I don't know... given that the place specializes in steaks I expected a little more out of it but just had a so-so experience. Service? A little on the slow side Other thoughts: I hope it didn't count against us but we did come here after a Brewers game so we weren't quite completely dressed for the place. Very disappointing for a restaurant that was reviewed as 4 stars. I am having trouble giving it 2 stars. Started with ice cold bread being served...like they had it in the refrigerator :( Salad was not fresh nor was the relish tray. Both wife and I ordered the Filet Mignon, medium well. We should have sent it back, especially my wife's. Hers was completely charred on one side and not edible. I didn't realize it until she was half done eating it (my wife is not a complainer). The seasoning of the steak was ok, but was served sitting in a pool of butter :( For the prices they charge we were expecting a lot better food. We would not go back. read more

We always do a special dinner for a birthday, so I was really excited to try Steakout. I ordered my filet medium and it was burnt. Two bites and I returned it. My lobster was also way over cooked, but I hadn't eaten all day, and was starving and didn't even mention it. The lobster was supposed to be an add on of $19. They did take off the steak, but then charged me the full dinner price of $27. Yes, I ate the soup, not the noodles. So the small cup of soup costed $8 (the only thing that was good) and at the time of eating it, I assumed I'd be getting at least a reasonably good surf and turf meal. Last time I was here was about 20 years ago. Friendly atmosphere. Service very good. $40 bone-in Ribeyes were good, not great. Have had better steaks for the price. My husband ordered medium rare and it was very rare and had to be put back on grill. We rarely ask for things to be redone. Came back very salty. Not sure if they grilled it again or microwaved it. French onion soup was Ok. Too beefy and salty. Tasted like a soup mix for a packet. 7 layer chocolate cake was very good. Will think about coming back again. read more
