Doesn't look like much on the outside but this lil gem was definitely worth my stop! From the beautiful wood decor on top of the bar to the warm warm welcome from everyone there I came across while dining there, I truly enjoyed myself there! I cannot remember no ones name but the bartender was super friendly and attentive to my group and I. She recommended drinks but we ended up getting 2 Bloody Mary's and a margarita that were all delicious! When we did go to our table, our waitress was super friendly and so attentive and never far away! I ended up getting the surf and turf with the sour cream and onion fries. I don't understand why everyone was complaining about the lobster but my lobster came out hot to the touch, it was a little tough for my liking (yes, the lobster meat) but still edible and delicious and the steak was cooked to my standard which is perfection! I didn't care much for the sour cream and onion wedges but it was ok. My boyfriend ordered the special which was an 18oz steak with the baked potato with sour cream and cheese and bacon which was to die for! Of course I tried his steak and it was well cooked! They can cook a mean steak at this place! Also the house salad with the peppercorn dressing was amazing! I completely devoured that salad. My friend said the French onion soup with the cheese topping was delicious and very filling, and I also ended up getting a Tito's and strawberry lemonade which delicious! My family had dinner here last night and it was wonderful. We were celebrating my husband's birthday. There were five of us and we ordered a wide variety of items from the menu: ribs, salmon, scallops, steaks and a lobster dinner. We all were very impressed with the French onion soup. It's actually the best I've had locally. I'd also like to add that the service was impeccable as well. I even have an appreciation for leftovers being taken and boxed away from the table as is seldom done anywhere these days. Everything was fine until we asked about dessert. It was at this point that I mentioned that I have a severe tree nut allergy. (I did not mention this earlier since I was not worried about the soup or lobster having tree nuts involved in their preparation.) The waitress came back and informed me that they could not recommend any of the desserts for me and walked back to the kitchen. (In the future, let the customer decide, the cheesecake was probably safe. The manufacturers now mark all these products in this way to avoid being sued. There is almost zero chance of nuts being in that cake. ) It took me a moment to realize that she failed to take orders from the rest of the party. She then returned with a tiny piece of carrot cake with a candle on it for my husband. At that point, we asked her to take the dessert order. My children ordered the cheesecake (which my husband probably would have ordered had he not been given the carrot cake). Btw, when I say his cake was tiny I mean tiny. When the host of the evening is also the birthday boy and the bill is about $300, the slice of cake if not large should at least be normal. If you don't want to be generous on your customer's birthday, then just forget it. Better yet, let the customer order their own dessert. Overall, the meal was marvelous and the service was great. Steakout is one of my Wife's favorite restaurants. Went there yesterday for dinner for a date night. Normally I give this restaurant 5 stars but they changed quite a bit. They use to serve bread and a veggie tray before the meal but not anymore, at least we didn't get any. My wife ordered surf and turf, cooked perfectly, Med Rare. I ordered a larger Filet, Med Rare but came out Rare. There was a bad storm outside and i don't mind eating rare steaks occasionally, so didn't say anything. My wife ordered second glass of wine never got it. It sat on the bar. Told waitress to cancel but still charged for it. Just wanted to get home. read more

We frequent this establishment about once a month. New Years Eve was a disappointment. Special menu (we were prepared for limited menu) was increased prices. The meat was all excellent (filet, porterhouse and prime rib). However, we waited at our table for 1/2 hr for a server. The French onion soup was lukewarm, the baked potato was under done. Hate to waste $264 for a sub par experience. The real travesty was the drink prices. 2 grasshoppers, a Baileys on the rocks and a whiskey coke was $79.. Seems the lovely bartenders had a license to charge whatever they wanted. We watched as an elderly adorable couple were charged $44.50 for their two drinks. Certainly changed their happy demeanor to a shocked expression. Don't know what they ordered, but it wasn't ice cream drinks. I am a sucker for supper clubs and The Steakout and is a legit classic supper club. The atmosphere was dimly lit, great bar, a spot for a musician (which I can't wait to go back for). The food was excellent! I had the prime rib and shrimp combination. The prime rib was as good as I remember having at some of the supper clubs back in the day as a child. I can't think of another Milwaukee based supper club that serves such a generous portion with such amazing flavor. I will definitely be back! read more

I have enjoyed my dining a few different occasions and I returned last night. I ordered the Ribeye and was disappointed with what they served. It was thinner than what I expected and was actually thinner than a grocery store steak. I asked for medium but came out well done...why bother asking how people want it done when it's a 1/4" thick. The "lobster" Mac cheese was cold when arrived and was kinda pathetic in flavor. Tonight's meal was not one I would repeat getting or suggest for others. I also ordered the grilled shrimp as an add-on and it was in the shell (messy as heck to deal with and did not expect to be doing that at the table). Service and attention to detail at the table was great which made up for the meal. I gave 4 stars because of the excellent service but that ribeye was pathetic. It's not just that the food is consistently excellent or that our server Amy L was friendly and timed our courses to perfection or that the restaurant is run by a family for decades. It is all that together that makes this our go-to steakhouse when we visit Milwaukee. Anita and Bobbie are the consummate hosts. It had been about five years since my last visit here. I was out and about Sunday afternoon and was hungry so I impulsively stopped by as I was driving by. It was 4:00 PM and they were just opening up for the evening. But no worries. They were ready and people were starting to flow in right behind me. I had a couple cocktails at the bar made a served by an attentive, pleasant, and skilled bartender. Of note she was also greeting guests and answering the phone. The girl was hustling! Well done. After the two martinis I moved to a table and was attended by a pleasant and skilled server. Again, really hustling because all the staff had not yet arrived. Again, well done. My steak and sides were perfectly cooked. Beverages etc well attended to. All in all, perfect. I made a promise to myself to get back for another visit very soon. read more

I was really looking forward to a nice steak and some drinks but what I got was an OK steak (tough n over-seasoned) and weak Brandy Old Fashions with no fruit. They use an old fashioned mix. I never was served an Old Fashion without fruit in it, ever. I had to ask. It was weird cuz some other people in my party of 18 had olives, cherries and an orange in theirs?? So when I ordered another it came with no fruit again! It had to be the bartender I thought. So the Porterhouse I had was kinda chewy and over seasoned a bit. It came with a baked potato and soup or salad. I had the chicken rice soup that was also heavily over-seasoned with Tyme but was still very good and hearty. I wanted a steak and in this part of South Milwaukee, there really aren't too many choices. So I headed over to Steakout. Very slow greeting at the hostess stand. There's a bartender, two waitresses that had too many tables and a teenager doing the hostess work. Lots of movement, not much exercise. But I chose to stick it out. I was eventually brought to a table, where I watched the waitstaff running about for a few minutes. She wanted to just take my drink order (they have a short wine list and several bottled beers as well as a full bar) but I figured to get my dinner order done at the same time. Wedge salad with blue cheese, and while she warned me that the blue cheese "dressing" was actually crumbles and a scoop of sour cream, I stuck with it. I would recommend something else if you want a good salad. For main, I requested the 14 ounce filet mignon, medium rare. When the steak arrived, it was nicely charred on the outside. But this was a very big piece of meat - at least three inches square, so the outer edges of it were nicely medium rare, the middle core of it was still rare. And with a knife that could have used a good sharpening, it wasn't that easy to eat. The baked potato came plain - thankfully I still had the butter from the (cold) bread basket. While tucking in to my steak, two tables near me had problems with their orders. One got the wrong steak (a filet instead of the strip) and the other said his 16 ounce steak was too small. After three visits now, I have to upgrade The Steakout. It's an adorable little supper Club. Check out some live singing on Friday and Saturday nights. It's like a classic movie in there :) Complete with 80s, sometimes 70s style patrons which make for an old school vibe. The relish tray that starts the meal fits the supper club theme, but often goes uneaten. On it are: carrots, celery, pickle, black olive, scallions, green pepper and another type of pepper that I didn't venture to try. The wine list leaves something to be desired. It would serve them well for updating once a year, at least! The martini list has some interesting choices, but would also serve them well to stock their booze inventory so that they could make everything on the list. Twice I've come in within a couple of months between visits and they don't seem to care enough to purchase St. Germaine, which is required for the French Martini (of course, one that I would like). The baked French onion soup was spectacular tonight. Really, opt for this instead of the salad that comes with your meal. My choice was the combo filet and shrimp. It was only $35 and I could choose between shrimp or lobster but the sever, Jessica (who was excellent), suggested the shrimp. There was a shrimp option between breaded or grilled in the shell -- duh! Shrimp is too good to bread! The shell was something you had to rip off using your fingers, was totally worth it and the three shrimp were huge. The filet was smaller but between the opinion soup and broccoli and extra side of a baked potato that I ordered, it was more than enough for a satisfying meal. For dessert a Golden Cadillac ice cream drink!!! Why oh why have ice cream drinks gone out of style?! People, you are missing out. Yum to the yum-yum! read more

I had dinner here last Saturday night, and I'll admit that my expectaions were exceeded. When we entered, the bar was full and there was a small line of people waiting to check in with the hostess. The place was packed around 7:00, and our server told us that was unusual. Maybe all the people who gave up meat for Lent wanted to get caught up. The dining room has a view of the grill where the steaks are made and the atmosphere on our visit was lively. I reviewed their menu online and already knew I was ordering the Bone-in Rib-eye ($39). Entrees include soup or salad, bread basket, choice of side, and a relish tray, which included scallions, carrots, pickles, black olives, and peppers on our visit. I would have loved if the relish tray veggies were all pickled, but they were solid as is. I ordered the Baked French Onion soup and loved it! It was one of the most flavorful broths I've had for French Onion soup, with flavors that differentiated it from all others. The cheese on top was browned, but I wouldn't call it burned. It was very good. I ordered my steak medium. I should learn to start ordering medium rare, but on the few occasions that I have at other places, I've been disappointed with it being too rare and cold. This place would have probvably made it correctly. My steak was medium through most of it, but closer to medium well and well done, the closer I cut to the bone. The flavor of the seasoning, the fat, the bone, and the char from the grill combined for a great tasting steak, and they didn't need to put it in a bath of au jus to provide flavor (you know who you are)! The steak came with a fresh, sauteed mushroom garnish and a few onion rings. The onion rings were perfect, and among the best I've had! The ratio of breading to onion was spot on, the breading had a good flavor, and they were perfectly crisp so that when I bit into one, it didn't come apart and let the entire onion follow the one bite into my mouth. I chose hash browns as my side dish because I had a baked potato earlier that week and I wasn't in the mood for potato wedges. The hash browns were also cooked to near perfection, very crispy with a softer center. I don't even think I had to add seasoning. Our server, Jessica (I'm pretty sure that was her name), was outstanding! She was attentive, very engaging, and made great recommendations to us. Her fun and friendly personality enhanced our dining experience. Toward the end of dinner, the live music started. The singer played the keyboard and sang classic songs from a couple of genres including R&B and jazz. This is one old school suppoer club that I would be comfortable recommending and returning to. read more

Ahhhjh nothing like the old school Wisconsin steak houses. The prices are reasonable, the food is plentiful and there should always be a relish tray. The Steakout didn't disappoint. The French onion soup was very tasty and had the requisite monster chunk of gooey mozzarella. My wife loved her filet which was a perfect medium rare. I had the ribeye and it was cooked perfectly too. My wife's baked potato was fluffy an delicious. I'd avoid the hash browns as they were pretty greasy. The service was a bit slow but we had a nice relaxing meal and we will go back. read more

I have eaten here a couple of times and enjoyed the meal and other times it was just average. The last time was the worst. I will not go back. The server asked why I didn't want a box and I explained the fish was terribly rubbery (like it was microwaved). She said she would tell the chef and then there was not another word about it. I got my bill and questioned her if she intended to adjust my check in some way and she replied, "oh no, I can't do that". I asked why she bothered to tell the chef and was told they would have re-made my meal, but she failed to offer me anything like that until my party was done and the check had come. Our table ordered 3 filets and a $48 special bone in New York strip. All were undercooked. 2 filets were so raw they had to be sent back. By the time they came back to the table others were done eating. All were very tough. Could not possibly be choice or prime. I emailed the owners hoping for at least an apology before I wrote this but got no response so I wrote this. I got the fish fry and it was very good. I hope they get their act together. Just visited recently with my Mom who was in a wheelchair. Right from the start, someone came to hold the door open for us. We had reservations and were seated promptly. We were also promptly greeted by our server and ordered beverages. The service was amazing from all of the staff!!!! I ordered the filet mignon with steamed broccoli and salad. The salad was just average with iceburg lettuce. The broccoli was steamed to perfection and the filet was just slightly undercooked (but was fine as I planned to reheat that portion the next day). For the price for the filet, I expected it to melt in my mouth. I was a bit disappointed as it was very crispy and salty on the exterior. I wanted to share a piece with Mom but it was too tough. Mom ordered the scallops (sauteed), baked potato and french onion soup. The scallops came with a breading on them (I don't remember seeing this on the menu) and she was disappointed but they tasted good. The baked potato was just average but the soup was out of this world!!!! We shared the carrot cake for dessert and it was wonderful. We usually pick the Steak Out when we are considering a nice sit down dinner. We went yesterday and My husband and I were so disappointed. The service was fine but she never came back to ask if we wanted another drink or refill our water. We had to hunt her down to get something to drink. I usually get the shrimp. which in the past was wonderful...yesterday not the case. They were over cooked, chewy and the panfried coating was soggy. My husbands Walley was the same. The coating was soggy. Our meal came so fast we didn't even get a chance to finish our salads and a conversation. When you go to nicer restaurant and spend over $100 you'd like to take in the ambiance, relax and enjoy. We felt rushed and unimportant. (lets get you in and out of here!) I really hope this was just a one time occurrence because it would be a shame have another nice restaurant cut corners and lose customers because of this. Such a disappointing experience. read more

The Steakout is a gem that combines two of my favorite things: steak and supper clubs. When you step inside the restaurant, you immediately pick up on the old school vibe of the place. The dim lighting, the dark interior, the old style bar area. All of which I am a huge fan of. The staff is always very nice and provides great service. My husband and I were recently here with some of his coworkers for dinner. While waiting for the rest of our group to arrive, we sat in the bar area. The bartender was very nice and knew how to make a good drink. I had a Brandy Old Fashioned Sweet, and my husband had a Moscow Mule. I was looking forward to diving in to the filet mignon (which is what The Steakout is famous for!), and as usual, they did not disappoint. I asked for the steak to be prepared as rare as possible, and they delivered! The steak was a beautiful shade of red on the inside and super tender. For my soup choice, I definitely had to go with the French Onion. It was very flavorful, with lots of cheese and onion. Oh, and I must give props for the awesome selection of add-ons that you can add to your meal. You have your choice of: scallops, 5oz lobster tail, crab legs, grill or pan fried shrimp, and caramelized onions. I always go with the 5oz lobster tail. If you can't decide whether you want steak or seafood, The Steakout offers combination dinners, so you can have the best of both worlds. And if you're in a seafood only state of mind, they have seafood dinner options as well. From the food to the ambiance and overall dining experience, this place is worth every penny! read more
