One of my all time favorite restaurants! My friend brought me here after a beach day to celebrate my birthday, it's a beautiful location right across from the beach (gorgeous views) we sat outside and it was so warm and watched the sunset. We were spoiled by our server and the bartender who created a few cocktails just for us! We had a spicy citrus margarita, a twist on a lemon drop and a few others. As for the food, we ordered the burrata which I order everywhere and I really enjoyed it. The portion size and quality of food is sooo fairly priced, especially given the location. My friend devoured her seafood pasta dish and was scraping the plate for the sauce at the end, she was in bliss. I had a pasta dish as well and really enjoyed it, would return for everything we ordered! They really went the extra mile to make us feel special! I came here with my friend for lunch over the weekend because she wanted to try it. It's not bad, just a mediocre experience. The food was good, but nothing great. The restaurant was nearly empty on a Saturday during lunch time, even though the beach area was packed. We had a table next to the window and the view was great. It definitely more of a place to stop by if you happen to be in the area and hungry, rather than drive to. I got the fish tacos and added guac to it. The tacos were tasty, but the guac had a tangy taste to it, so I didn't eat it. Overall, I enjoyed my meal and will stop by if I happen to be in the area. Jim G and I went in with lower expectations because of other reviews and the location. Due to that, and the great service from Anna, we had a great time! The location really Is stunning, with only a small road separating you from the mostly isolated sand. We sat in an area that had huge windows opened for full appreciation of the view and the sea breeze. I forgot how chilly it can get in Malibu and I was dressed for the heat in the West Valley, lol! We drove out to Malibu to escape the 5th consecutive day of the SCV heatwave. It was a beautiful 76 degrees when we arrived at The Sunset for dinner. Zuma beach was crowded! Cars were bumper to bumper on the small road leading up to the restaurant, but the valet guys were amazing. They moved cars in and out seamlessly while welcoming patrons to the restaurant. We had reservations and were seated right away at a table next to large open windows. We started with the Shrimp Cocktail and Sunset Clam Chowder. For the main course my husband had the Grilled Strip Steak while I had the Striped Bass Filet. For dessert our server recommended the Pistachio Tres Leches and Tiramisu so we ordered both. From start to finish, it was all so, so delicious! Service was relaxed which allowed us to savor each course while enjoying the cool ocean breeze and views of the setting sun. Our table was cleared and drinks refilled without asking. It was perfect. With the Pacific ocean just a few steps away, we crossed the street to take a short walk on the beach before heading back to the Valet. Our first experience at The Sunset was simply remarkable. I was informed after we sat down at 12:30 for Brunch that there was no Brunch menu that it concluded at 12:00, when the website clearly says 3pm. The Mgr wanted nothing to do with my complaint and could care less about my reservations that was made 1 week in advance for Father's Day Brunch with my daughter. He was very rude and his only answer was he's been working there 12yrs and didn't really care that we came there for brunch. I've been going there for years and will NEVER go back to somewhere that was so RUDE and could care less about my complaint. On top of all that, the service was horrible, it took 10min to get a server and never brought the correct menu that we asked for, now I know why. We ordered a drink, which never came, so we decided to cancel the drink and left. On top of that, I paid 10.00 for valet parking and was there about 20min. What a horrible experience for one of my favorite places that I will never go back or recommend to anyone. read more

After dinner valet parking was trying to charge us $50 by pressuring of an assumption, that we went to the beach before dinner( we did not go to the beach). My husband forgot his cap( which had a sentimental value to it. It was gifted by our daughter from her very first paycheck) and called right after we got home. Whoever answer the phone acknowledged the lost item and we asked if they can mail it to us. The answer was( manager) :" We'll, I don't have that kind of money ". The next day we issued a prepaid label from the UPS and emailed it to the manager , so they can" afford" to mail it to us( we live around Burbank, CA) . Back and forth millions of calls of confirmation with Ron( manager) and hearing all the accusations from him , that's it's our fault, that we forgot the cap ,ect... until he said , that it's nowhere can be found. We went here for the first time yesterday. It was such a beautiful day, we wanted to venture out. This restaurant is right across the street from the beach. Literally walking distance. When we arrived theres Valet, which is required and is $9. The ambiance is definitely open and airy since it's at the beach. It gave me a modern bohemian feel. There is plenty if indoor and outdoor seating. We were sat right by a window with a view of the beach. It was so pretty. I actually saw a dolphin fin in the water while at our table and thought it was a shark....lol The server was nice and attentive. They give you bread and butter before your meal. We ordered the seared scallops first as an appetizer. They were absolutely delicious. They were on top of greens with sweet onions and apples. It all tasted great together. It gave just the right amount of salty and savory.... Perfect. The waitress did say that was one of their most popular dishes. The Peruvian scallops on the other hand....They were good but lacked flavor. The topping was like a garnish on top of the scallop but did not tie in with the flavor of the scallop, the two seemed totally separate. For our entrées we ordered the Waygu burger and the Waygu bolognese spaghetti, both were delicious. For the drinks.... I ordered my signature drink as I must try wherever I go..... A whiskey sour. I gave it a 3/5. It was just okay. Next drink was a mimosa, which you cannot go wrong. It was 5/5. My dining companion had a Bloody Mary, which he said was a 4/5. The manager made rounds while we were there and was extremely friendly. He stopped to ask us how everything was as I was making a fuss over the dolphins. He stopped, talked with us, we laughed. He made us feel welcome. After our meal we left our car in valet and went across the street to relax on the beach. The guys in the valet were all extremely nice and accommodating. We were able to get our blanket out of the car and left the car there for the two hours we were on the beach. We double paid for the valet as a thank you for letting us leave our car there because there is a parking lot further down the road they could of made us park in, but they didn't. I saw this place on YouTube and been wanting to try the lobster pasta. I made a reservation a few weeks ahead. This place seemed more on the casual side. We were seated by the window and was able to catch the sunset. It was beautiful. If you check in on yelp you can get a free glass of wine. The pasta had a good amount of lobster meat and a whole lobster cut in half. The flavor was simple and not over whelming. My boyfriend got the skirt steak with fries and he enjoyed it. read more

I had the Seafood Linguine and while it tasted decent, every piece of seafood was over cooked and nearly unchewable. My friend had the bolognese rigatoni and the flavor and texture of the meat tasted not too far off from a powdered meat substitute. After this, I then experienced a night of sickness which was caused by none other than the only food I had that day. TLDR Okay spot for food but its conveniently located next to a beach. I found most of their dishes to be uninspiring and pretty bland, besides the brussel sprouts. They do have HH from Sun-Thurs 3-close at their bar area only so that is probably a better value especially being near a beach. I would come back for happy hour if I was in the area. Our server kept checking food for us and said the manager will come to give us an explanation on the slow service, the manager never came. Best tacos!!! After some hiking and walking along the beach, we stopped at The Sunset for a late lunch. We sat outside to enjoy the wonderful ocean breeze. There are a ton of umbrellas for shade if you prefer to stay out of the sun. First off, the tacos are stuffed! I had to eat half of the fish before I was able to eat the tacos without dropping everything. The fish tastes so fresh and the filets are quite big. Amazing Food and Views -- But One Server Hurt the Experience (Gabriela) Let me start by saying the food was incredible and the view was absolutely stunning -- this place has everything it takes to be a 5-star spot. However, I'm giving 3 stars solely because of the service we received from our server, Gabriela. This was my first time here, and while the overall atmosphere was great, Gabriela's service left a lot to be desired. Despite the restaurant not being busy (there were multiple empty tables), it took 35 minutes to get our drinks after ordering, and she didn't check on us once during that time. When we politely brought it up and let her know we'd also been ready to order our food for a while, her response was defensive and off-putting -- which made the situation even more frustrating. To be clear, this review is not a reflection of the entire staff -- I can't speak for the other servers. But in our experience, Gabriela's attitude and lack of attentiveness seriously impacted what could've been a perfect night. They offered more chips which was generous. I would just say, beware of their Wagyu beef burger. Looked and tasted like ground beef in my opinion. The burger wasn't bad but just beware of what kind of beef they're actually using in their burgers if you're expecting Wagyu beef in your burger. The other thing to be aware of. Stopped at The Sunset Restaurant after a hike up Point Dume Trail. We were worried it would brunch only, that our attire wouldn't be appropriate or getting a reservation would be impossible given its being Easter Sunday and our impromptu decision for lunch. We called and the hostess squeezed us in (20 mins from our call) and told us there is no dress code requirement. The short of it: we were def underdressed. I don't know if that's because of Easter Sunday or in general, but they never made us feel under dressed (we deduced it quite easily). Still: we were seated immediately and had a fabulous view of Malibu beach to our south and a canyon to the west! Gorgeous! Service was prompt and friendly. The restaurant interior is modern bo-ho, very nice! We ordered a cheese plate (delicious), lobster tacos (heavenly) and lobster truffle Mac n' cheese (the best I've ever had!). The portions were quite large and the food was perfection! Drinks were likewise delicious. One caveat that might be problematic for others is the parking availability--or the lack thereof. Valet parking is required and is $9. The attendants were quite prompt, but they ran out of spots and there was a long line of cars waiting for a spot when we left. ProTip: When I checked in on the Yelp App, a prompt came up for a free glass of wine. Score! Our total was $122 (pre-tip) and worth every penny! I will absolutely eat here again when in the area! You can't beat the relaxed atmosphere and beach view! They have indoor and outdoor seating and happy hour starts at 3! Full bar with exotic cocktails and a nice variety of happy hour food. I loved my eggplant parmigiana and my friends loved the homemade guacamole with chips, the tasty fish tacos and the meatballs! The server was especially helpful when I was charged for a ice tea I never got and he closed out the bill and redid it. I'd only ever been to the sunset for a wedding and it was such a beautiful space the beach right across the street was the perfect backdrop for the ceremony. The restaurant is pretty much on its own at that corner so there's plenty of street parking however it is still beachfront so it fills up with not only restaurant goers but people go into the beach as well. Luckily the restaurant does offer valet parking. On our visit we didn't have to use it because just as we we're approaching there happen to be an open spot on the street. However from what I did see while we were sitting in the patio the folks who run the valet stand are friendly and super quick. We visited on a Friday afternoon around 3 o'clock and when we went to the hostess and they asked if we had a reservation we didn't but they were still able to accommodate us and actually put us in our ideal spot which is in the patio that's closest to the valet parking lot. Andre was helping us out on our visit and he was super nice and funny and really helped to set the tone for an excellent experience. We were a party of three and my friends seemed to enjoy their selections -- I thoroughly enjoyed my Linguini Seafood. The sauce wasn't too thick but it was still flavor packed. And they were super generous with the seafood. For dessert my friends had the Tres leches and really enjoyed it. I went for the carrot cake and it was probably in the top five carrot cakes I've ever had in my life. So we actually visited the restaurant because BTS' RM Shared on Instagram that he was there - and after the great service and delicious eats I'm so glad we did. read more

The Sunset restaurant hosted my wedding reception, after the Palisades fire changed our plans with only four months to go. They were amazingly helpful and accommodating every step of the way, our server James was attentive and managed everything seamlessly. We have many memories here from date nights to birthdays and it is always a pleasure to dine here. Came here a few weeks ago after spending the day in Ojai. Buddy and I wanted some Oceanside eats and found this place. Sitting on the far end of Zuma Beach, Sunset Restaurant really can't be beat for location. I had oysters as a starter and seafood pasta for my main. My friend had their chowder and and lobster pasta and neither of us were complaining. The food was great, the service was friendly and the location was fun. This isn't a super-posh place but I'd say a little more upscale-casual. Definitely a place to know about if you want to get some sea air and get out of LA. read more

My sister lives in Malibu and eats here about every two weeks or so. She recommends the hamburgers but we wanted fish.l think living in LA can be quite horrifying with the politics, homeless, very expensive, traffic, rules about Covid are the strictest, etc. But, when you drive a short distance to have dinner with an ocean front view of the sunset in winter you realize this is why I live in LA! It's priceless no matter what you eat! I loved the meatballs with spinach, the drinks and deserts were great. The pastas were pretty good as well. We didn't really like the calamari too much. Also, our server was pretty new and not the best, that's basically why I gave four stars instead of five. But overall a really great evening.
