I don't remember my whole story for that night but I saw the sheriff department behind us while my Girlfriend was trying to find us a Lyft. We Lyfted from 1.5hrs away to see this place because we saw the owners video. I grew up in Europe and have visited 20 countries and this place reminded me a lot Europe . Came here for a team event and loved it! Even though we were unlucky with the weather and got caught in a downpour, the food more than made up for it. We ordered calamari, raw seafood platters and I got the seafood linguine for my entree. Everything was super tasty and well cooked! One minor nit with the calamari is that the breading on the outside didn't seem that well attached, it fell off very easily and you had to be pretty careful with eating it lest it fall onto the table (and go to waste). Seafood linguine was an incredibly generous portion and I left feeling stuffed. Perfectly cooked seafood and noodles; the sauce was a little bit on the sweeter side due to them using sweeter tomatoes. I like my tomatoes and my tomato sauce a little more tangy but not a huge deal overall. Spice level was just right on the linguine and I could taste the red pepper flakes. We sat in the middle area where the sunny bright sky welcomed us. We were a party of 6 and we didn't have a rezzy on a Sunday, we were sat right away. The food was amazing! Especially the calamari and the fish tacos. Absolutely delicious cocktails... dirty martini, expresso martini and some beers... we knew we made the right decision coming here. The staff could have been a little more warm and friendly... it also took a bit of time for our cocktails and food to come but once they arrived, they were delectable. The ocean views are my favorite... we wanted to stay all day. There isn't a place quite like The Sunset... where you know you're going to get quality. This was a very pleasant experience overall. So I had to get up and ask a different server to bring us some because our server was nowhere to be found. Big restaurant with very busy bar & scattered bistro tables, large main dining room, beach sand patio, and upstairs. Sunset Restaurant is not on the beach side of the road so parked cars in front obstruct a clear field view of the beach. The upstairs room by a window may be the way to go.  We arrived about 45 minutes before sunset to witness the ochre sun set in a gap between two parked cars. I had to do a huge crop job to make the photo look "romantic".  Our mission in coming to Point Dume, Malibu was to see the Perseid Meteor Shower which originates from debris left by comet Swift-Tuttle. A streaking, flaming fire ball with the Milky Way in the background left a huge impression.   Since the owner of Sunset is from Bari, Apuglia, I thought the Liguine with good quality, 1 lb whole lobster would be appropriate. Maine Lobster shell is already cut in half to reveal the steamed, firm yet sweet, moist, slightly fibrous white meat dressed American style with a lot of butter.   Linguine pasta was properly al dente in a mild white wine sauce with cherry tomatoes, touch of fresh basil chiffonade, random chunks of lobster that was enhanced by the butter from the lobster.   It may be the most expensive item on the menu, but it is so big & filling that there is no reason to order an appetizer. That makes ordering this dish a deal.  Since I had to keep awake to see the meteors, ordered refillable ice tea which was rather weak although a summery, cold, crisp rosé wine would have been ideal.  Got the Tres Leches Cake shaped in a timbale so it looks like a round turret. Light sponge cake is drenched in milk, evaporated milk, & condensed milk.  Added feature was whipped cream filling and crushed roasted pistacchio nuts on top for a textural contrast. Chocolate and caramel syrup streaks on plate for decoration. It's a satisfying dairy intensive, light dessert.  Not the best beach viewing restaurant, but the food here passes muster. Service is friendly, laid back, but waiters must hurry on since they have to cover so many tables. Valet parking is a must at $10 plus tip.  4- stars for unhurried dining in a busy restaurant. read more

He ruined the whole brunch experience for my guests visiting from Canada. He is not only rude but treats people with disrespect and a demeaning attitude . He shows how ignorant he is and is a mistake to have him greeting people. He was so distasteful pretending this is a high end place. The place is cool but the food is nothing special and the place is run down . We regretted our decision to come here but we had to stay because we were just passing by the area. Such a beautiful and romantic location! The food was exquisite, the service impeccable, amazing ambiance, pristinely clean restaurant and restrooms, gorgeous view, and despite it being a very busy night on Valentine's Day, the manager and owner were checking on everyone and making sure everything was top notch. We could not have asked for a better experience! We had the scallops to start, then sashimi and steak for our entrees. The food was flavorful, fresh, and absolutely lovely in every way. The steak was part of the Valentine's Day special menu so it even came with a complementary glass of Prosecco (yum) and we ordered a raspberry chocolate martini for dessert as well and it was divine! We will be back for sure! The manager Ron went above and beyond to make sure we were enjoying our evening and mentioned that they were just getting back on their feet after all the recent fires so be sure to visit these restaurants that are open again! We enjoyed the cheese board which came with two types of cheese, fruits and spreads. The Mai Tais were well-balanced and perfect for the beach; and the wine list was full of great selections-- we really enjoyed the Malbec. For Entrees we ordered the sea bass and the chicken sandwich, both of which were well-enjoyed. The sea bass was perfectly tender and the Mediterranean olive/tomato sauce on top complimented it well. We booked in for a special 4th of July birthday, party of 5. The calamari and Wagu meatballs was delicious. We ordered a variety of dishes so we could enjoy a selection. The Wagu burger, excellent, tasty, cooked perfectly med rare. The seafood linguine was tasty but had a small rock in it! The sea bass was covered in a tomato sauce w olives. Not the flaky fish we're used to w sea bass.... My med rare flank steak w chimichurri sauce came out 30 minutes after my table finished and their plates cleared. I would like to start by saying this spot is probably one of Malibu's best kept secrets . While last ok'ing for a place to dine I came across this beautiful place right on the beach . The spot itself is very nice with a good mix of tourist and locals . Ambiance- the sunset you get to see here are beautiful just like the name states . While the place seems loud and busy you can actually have a nice quiet dinner with family and friends. Service- great service the waiter (an Italian gentleman) was great he not only had great suggestions but made sure our dinning experience was memorable. Not once did I have to ask him for a drink he was on it . Food- AMAZING has the jumbo scallops as an appetizer I have to say delicious . For our entree we had a full main lobster linguine and clam linguine. Both dishes were amazing and reasonably priced . We finished our meal with a pistachio nut tres leches cake . I will never again look at tres leches as boring again. This was a light but delicious desert . Drinks were amazing as well . Only bad thing is that parking is a pain even if you valet park . Just had a very good experience of my first time dining during the happy hour at Sunset Restaurant in Malibu! Well, the place was beautifully arranged since we walked in... cozy and inviting. It was happy hour so everything on the menu looked very well priced comparing to their regular selection. We went full classic and ordered everything around the menu with no disappointment in every bite. Really brought it back to the drink specials. Between the wine specials and well drinks, we all made it rain on affordable prices. A chilled glass of wine served sea side was pure bliss. And man, the view we had was amazing as fuck from observing into ocean. The view itself was almost surreal it felt like the sun set up a scene just for us The only small hiccup we found was the sofa seating became a bit warm after some time, but that very minor flaw against what an awesome experience it was. Great service -- our server was friendly and attentive, being there at the right time to check on us or make sure that we got all what we need. Again, the ambiance of this restuarant was relaxed but upscale and a great to wind down. One thing keeping this from a 5 star review is the manager. We witnessed the floor manager reprimand a host for trying to seat me and my family (two strollers) without walking us to the front. She had a RBF, and the attitude and personality to go along with it. She basically belittled the host and forced us to navigate the entire restaurant with two strollers to the front just to literally get the menus and walk back to the table we were at initially.
