This is my go-to spot for tacos. The Beyond Meat taco on flour tortilla has so much flavor. It can be a little too spicy at times but overall delicious. I started adding gauc to mine and that takes it to the next level. Their potato and egg breakfast tacos are also a favorite. The service is always nice and fast with getting the order complete. I also like that it's mostly outside for a nice breeze and to just enjoy the surroundings of the Heights. Overall 10's across the board. read more

After flying in from chilly Minnesota, the Taco Stand is the standard first stop when visiting family here. A well-shaded patio with lots of fans is the perfect setting to greet Houston in her more temperate moods. The tacos are good! Normally I would go for a classic street taco corn tortilla, but their flour tortillas are especially fresh. The el pastor was delicious; and I will be back next time for more of the delicious chips and queso and another frozen margarita!!! Oh and they have a nice selection of sauces and garnishes - a trait of the best "taco stands." But that's not to comment on how it stands up against the taco competition, there is a lot of it. Maybe it's not a top foodie spot - and if you're a taco enthusiast this is just one choice of many. but a terrific patio lunch for sure. Often what separates one restaurant from the next is the people that work there. People like Jesus at the to-go counter make all the difference. That guy has a knack for service. He's just super nice and accomodating. Taco Stand is very affordable and the business model is here to stay. They could be super busy and packed to the brim but because of the way they run things, you never wait long for your food. I've enjoyed everything I've ordered there but their pastor is up there with the best of them. read more

Montrose doesn't have much sit down Mexican restaurants, this is probably the best thing you'll get for what's available, not that the food is meh but it's not as great as your hole in the wall or food truck that'll deliver authentic Mexican food and I know that's a silly comparison but the only reason I'm doing such comparison is because of the prices, $16 dollars... for 4 corn tacos, what made me laugh out loud to the cashier was that the menu read "50¢ for cheese" so I ask her is the 50¢ added on top of the cost of the 4 tacos or is it 50¢ added on for each taco? She told me it was the 2nd option, yeah that's just silly but you know I still tried the spot out and I will say it delivered on great taste and they offer a topping bar with a great selection, I will say though for the price you do get a lot of meat so that was great to see the tacos were loaded with meat, again I only got 4 pastor tacos so my judgment is based off that, I wouldn't return here on purpose but if I'm in the area late at night and want some Mexican food, sure I'll head in and get over the somewhat ridiculous price, overall though definitely worth checking out and service was great as well and the place itself is really nice and has great vibes. read more

We have eaten here a couple of times and the food has flavor, however the chips always seem stale; the flavor is okay but too difficult to chew, taking away from the overall experience. The staff was nice enough and the service is okay. The ambiance is an indoor/outdoor open air concept with A/C and fans which allows for flies and other unwanted pests. We have eaten here once for breakfast at 10:00 am and going again we arrived at 11:02 am and told we were too late for breakfast (stop serving at 11:00) So we had grilled fish tacos (MahiMahi) which were okay but a bit dry. My friend and I decided to grab breakfast from The Taco Stand on a Saturday morning and I'm so glad we did! Their patio is dog friendly and provides a very casual atmosphere! Because of the fans and the open air seating, it was still pleasant on the hot day (early enough in the day). My friend ordered a Chorizo & Egg Burrito and I ordered a Bacon, Egg & Cheese Burrito. The Chorizo & Egg burrito was too spicy for my liking but my friend loved his order and thought it was perfect. I also appreciated that they had a little stand of ready to grab salsas and toppings. Most of the salsas and items were again too spicy for me but were loved by others (I'm a wimp with spicy). Taco Stand has become one of my go to places for breakfast tacos! The first time I tried it I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the tortillas. My favorite is the potato and egg taco, but other choices like egg and brisket or a la mexicana are great choices too. The plethora of hot sauces also elevates the tacos. My family loves to grab breakfast tacos when they're in town (and we're a taco snob kind of family). Staff is usually very friendly. Thanks Taco Stand for the excellent tacos! read more

This place has the basics down. Good tortilla, salsa, meat. However, I try to order things with veggies and it just doesn't work out. For example, the burrito: it's supposed to have sour cream and pico de gulio. But usually, it's just meat and rice and some beans. First time here! The food wasn't too bad. Our initial order of 4 tacos came out timely and fresh however, our second order which consisted of 1 taco and 1 tortilla took extremely long. Someone from the back came to advise my husband it was ready even though the pager he was given did not vibrate. When he got to the counter it was still not ready. We were there on a not so busy Sunday. Reason for the 1 star is because it was extremely hot on the inside. When I asked about the AC, I was given an unacceptable excuse that they weren't sure other than it must be broken. When I went to the ladies room, it was fine there as well as the hall area. It would have been nice to have her check on the reason why it wasn't cool especially considering how hot it was outside. I'm back with a follow up review after I left a 1 star review about my previous experience at the Taco Stand. Basically, my google review stated that they forgot one of my tacos in my order, elote was bad, flour tortilla was undercooked, and a few more concerns. However, I respect the management of this business by exhibiting the epitome of great customer service. They take customers concerns seriously, they try to satisfy the customer, and then attempt to solve the issue. I went today to the taco stand around the same time as my previous visit and I witnessed management retraining/training cooks. I told my partner: "I know my food about to be fire" and it was! I enjoyed my food today. My partner didn't like that the potatoes were largely cubed and the coke being flat in the drive through is a reoccurring problem. read more

The cuisine was delightful, but goodness gracious, your kitchen is in dire need of some TLC! Seriously, tidy up, tidy up! And could you please educate your staff on the proper way to wear pants? One of your employees, where customers pick up their orders, had his pants practically falling off, revealing his bright red boxers. The quality has deteriorated, the serving size had decreased, the price increases are outrageous ($4.64 for 1 potato and egg taco!) and the wait time is unacceptable. Today it took 10 minutes to get 1 taco. The person who took my order entered my order wrong, no problem, he apologized and quickly corrected it. The kitchen staff took 10 minutes to put together 1 taco. They filled multiple orders while I sat in the drive-through window watching. When I tried to get the person in charge's attention, she ignored me. When the person who took my order came back to the window, I asked him what was taking so long. As he began to answer, the girl who had ignored me came and shoved him out of the way and asked, very rudely, if I wanted my money back. I said no, I want my order, she closed the window, went and looked for it, found it, gave it to me and closed the window. No apology, no explanation, nothing. I used to go around twice a week for breakfast but about 6-7 months ago I noticed that every time I went, there were new people taking the orders and in the kitchen. I started going less and less frequently. Curiously, they are always hiring. Whoever is in charge has dropped the ball, they should study how Chik-Fil-A does it and learn a thing or two, especially about efficiency and customer service. Ambiance was nice. There was a bit of a line when we arrived but it moved fairly quickly. They have a good selection of Mexican tap beers (modelo, negra modelo, pacifico and corona). Burrito 3/5: nothing special. Tacos 2/5: carne asada was cold and not much flavor. Al pastor was okay. Barbacoa needed salt but aside from that, it was okay. Chips n' queso 4/5: chips were yummy and fresh. Queso Also had good flavor. Price was reasonable considering the actual quantity of each taco/burrito so no biggie. We grabbed breakfast tacos at the drive-through at The Taco Stand, and they were great! The tortillas were clearly homemade, and I really liked how they mixed in big pieces of bacon into the scrambled eggs, rather than just throwing once piece of bacon on top of the eggs. I was told no they were able to make it, which I am confused because yall literally have everything to make it on the menu??? This place has a drive-thru window. This building looked like it had some history to it. What I ordered: 1 shrimp, 1 fish, 1 al pastor, and 1 carne asada. Good size tacos and loaded with toppings! As a proud Taco Stand customer for the past 4 years, I'd like to voice my opinion. Consistency is majorly lacking. For example, the pastor quesadilla. The one unchanging variable is the taste of the pork pastor - always great. The variables that change wildly: 1. Amount of cheese 2. Amount of cheese that's actually melted 3. Amount of pork pastor 4. How much grease is added to the tortilla while being cooked 5. Crispness of the tortilla Over my last 5-10 visits, no two quesadillas have been the same. Some are nearly inedible due to the amount of grease, and some are very unappetizing due to the excess of cold cheese in the quesadilla. I love coming here every month or two, but the recent visits have been disappointing. I hope they can focus on improving the quality and consistency of their food. read more

I like their selections of salsas/garnishes and also various alcoholic drinks y aguas frescas. (margaritas specials from 3-6 pm, check out their menu) Overall, It's a good place in the heights for a decent priced meal and drink on the patio (or sobering up after barhopping). The food is nothing special compared to a lot of other Mexican/TexMex places, but for the heights it can be a great option especially since they open late (Midnight everyday).
