After a successful Sunday Funday in the Heights, we needed a little something in our bellies to end the night. At that time of the night, all you want is something quick and easy. What better place than a taqueria or in this case, The Taco Stand. I already knew it was going to be awesome because it is the same company as The Burger Joint. I was thinking it was going to be some very Tex-Mex type taco, but these tacos were pretty authentic. I went with a couple of carne asada tacos and a pastor taco. They do not skimp on the perfectly seasoned, delicious filling and the tortillas were great as well. We shared some chips and queso which was a generous portion as well and very tasty. Another thing I really enjoyed was some of their salsas. They have a salsa bar with individual portions of salsa and extra condiments. Their habanero salsa was not only delicious, but it packed some really good heat that I love. If this place was closer to me, I could see myself hitting them up often. Decent parking options for the heights with Burger Joint next door. Also features a drive-thru and online order options. Very casual atmosphere on the patio, the tables can be busy depending on time of day/night and generally people to keep it relative clean and there are staff that comes around. I tried out the Supreme Burrito (Carne asada) with added Guac, generous amount of meant and a good balance of rice/beans/pico de gallo. I like their selections of salsas/garnishes and also various alcoholic drinks y aguas frescas. (margaritas specials from 3-6 pm, check out their menu) Overall, It's a good place in the heights for a decent priced meal and drink on the patio (or sobering up after barhopping). The food is nothing special compared to a lot of other Mexican/TexMex places, but for the heights it can be a great option especially since they open late (Midnight everyday). It was actually pretty tender and flavorful. The burrito was HUGE (especially for the price), I split it w/ the boyfriend. Everything else in it was really good too. I can't believe I didn't try this place sooner, but I was looking for a good taco joint around The Heights area! I stumbled upon this place with my friend after we did a workout. It opens late and is a nice casual place, which I really like. It's mainly outdoor seating. We went at night, so the weather felt great. Loved that they have TV's on with the Astros game playing to watch also. You go up to the stand to order and then they give you a buzzer to pick up your food when it goes off. I tried the barbacoa and chicharron tacos on corn tortilla. It was so delicious. I had 3 tacos and I was super full. We also got a regular horchata, which was honestly a very generous size. So I'm on the fence between a 3 and a 4 star bc the service from the lady made it a 4. I was 1 of 3 customers in the establishment and I saw her diligently filling salsas and cleaning up. In addition, I wasn't sure if I was suppose to leave my trash or dispose of it and she gladly told me that i didn't have to worry and that she will take care of it. Now on to the food, I had 1 Barbacoa Taco and 1 Carne Asada Taco with cilantro and onions on both. I made sure to tell the person taking my order bc I read other yelpers say that they forget to put them on there. I didn't have any issues. So the 3 stars comes in bc of the price; the tacos are super tiny and not life changing . The meat was very tender, however I didn't taste any spices or seasoning. The salsa bar gave the tacos the added flavor they needed by way of pickled onions, green and red salsa, and some escabeche. Without those additions the talks are just OK. Someone said let's get some Taco's ,and no one never tried The Taco Stand. When you get there you find a place to seat ,and after that you go to the order window. And, they will give you a buzzer to let you know when your order is ready. Once, your order is ready you go to the Pick-up window. So, I order one grilled fish taco and shrimp quesadillas and a delicious frozen Mango and strawberry margarita. The ambiance is pretty much gives a outdoor feel with shaded area . My current obsession are the vegan beef tacos/burritos. The flavor is just TOO good and the price is cheap!! The food is best eaten in person, as the "meat" is very oily if you get it to go. The rice and beans in the burrito are also vegan btw. And the margs are good as well! read more

Tacos here are tasty although not justified by the price. Feel that for what you pay, you should get a larger portion or the flavors should jump out and hit you senseless. Unfortunately neither of those happen. Best one Ive had is probably the carnitas which is the best value IMO. The mushroom isn't bad either. However there is a drive-thru and online ordering which makes it easy to pickup. Complimentary sauces/salsas/garnishes are next to the order window when you want to spice up your handheld concoctions. This is my first time visiting. The service was great and staff was well knowledgeable of the menu even offering suggestions. The Restaurant is clean. Every thing was fine except my food. Barely any meat. The bowl was overly loaded with rice and beans at the bottom, then loaded with guac, sour cream, and lettuce. I ate mostly the meat with some of the rice and beans. It was so loaded with fillers that it was hard to taste the meat or anything. Elote - Soupy and salty. No mayo. Chips and queso - My friend ordered this. It was the only thing I liked. Chips are deep fried and thick. Queso was good and had some poblanos in it. Someone in the group ordered a quesadilla, which looked better. Ample parking for The Heights area. Lots of seating, but when you come in a crowd, save tables. This place is too overpriced for the quality/flavor of food. They have ads on the napkins for $5 margaritas from 3-6 pm Monday-Friday. Was bummed they don't serve breakfast tacos after 11 am. I wanted to try the chorizo and egg taco. It was ok to try, but I don't recommend. There are plenty of better taco places. read more

The service here is absolutely atrocious. It does not matter if you order a day in advance for a pick up or 10 to 15 minutes prior to getting there. I watched a gentleman stand at the window for 10 minutes waiting for his order. We saw a bag inside the window. They finally came up and asked him about his order and they handed him that bag. I then watched another lady walk up and they never took her order. She must've stood there for at least 10 minutes. Just awful service. If you can get past that, the tacos are pretty good. read more

We got a text saying it was ready around 11:15 so my husband went inside and they told him the order was still processing and to wait a bit. He waits outside and goes back in and around 11:30 they said they're starting on the order now. He waits in the drive thru and it's now 12:15. They tell him they're still working on it. He asks why it takes so long. The girl tells him that online orders come in last and the texts are automated. We get our food. All the sauces aren't in there. The rice in our burrito and bowl is undercooked. The elote had a huge clump of cotija and tons of cayenne. Barely any corn. His Jamaica drink was good. I didn't get my limonda. I got horchata instead. Did not drink. Don't think I'll be ordering from here again. Took over an hour just to be frustrated and disappointed. read more

I loveeeee taco stand. It's our go to spot after soccer games & it's also my favorite place to go after night shift to get a breakfast burrito. Have not been disappointed so far. Dined in for dinner and ordered four burritos to-go. The ordering experience was quite easy and I only waited about 15 minutes for the order to be ready. I was offered water while waiting, and before I could order chips and salsa to snack on, the order was ready. All in all, we ordered two Carnitas burritos and two Carne Asada burritos. I will say that was the MOST EXQUISITE Carnitas burrito I have ever had!!!! The Carnitas was cooked to perfection, falling off the bone, licking your fingers, wanting more, good. Beyond exquisite!! Everything was homemade fresh, including the tortilla on the burrito, and the rice and beans that were slabbed on there as well. I will definitely return to the taco stand, because that was next-level carnitas. We've had our eye on this place every time we went to HEB wondering when they would open and today we saw a line so decided to stop by. We called our order in and was told the food would be ready in 10 min so extra points for efficiency. I'm glad they allow togo orders to pay at the pickup counter instead of making us wait in the ordering line which was surprisingly quite long. They had a nice covered patio area with heat lamps and seating. We ordered the pastor taco, carnitas, barbacoa, campechano de puerco (carnitas, chorizo, chicharron). We also had a mixed meat (chicken and carne asada) and cheese quesadilla, guacamole, elote, and chicharrons. My favorite tacos were the barbacoa and pastor. Both had a lot of flavor. It's not the best meat I've had but a good medium between taco stand taste and restaurant establishment tacos/service. The guacamole portion was also large and very cheap at 3.99. The elote needed more spice and lime. The main thing that caught me off guard was that our tacos didn't come w any cilantro, lime, or onions. It makes such a big difference and I saw that other pics on Yelp had it so I didn't think I would have to specifically ask for it. I was a little disappointed by this.
