Was disappointed with tip tap room. Went for drinks after work for their draft selection but found the layout super uncomfortable. As somewhere that advertises itself for having a great drink selection it's completely not bar friendly. 0 space to stand, seating sections are awkwardly put around what should be a mainly bar area. Overall layout was bad, staff seemed frantic and senior staff wears suits? Seems like the establishment is having a slight identity crisis in regards to whether it wants to focus on the dining or bar aspect. Nonetheless the drinks were great, served quickly and cold but lack of space and awkward setup was horrible. Bar is setup poorly. read more

So many awesome dishes to mentioned! For vegetarian, you got to try the cauliflower dish. The flavor is so different that I absolutely love it!!! Then there are so many exotic meats to try. Go here!!! I was in Boston for the first tome and really wanted to get out and try something new. I was not disappointed. Upon arrival in a taxi around 8:00pm I was greeted by a door guy. I found this odd as it's a restaurant. Why would they need a bouncer? Upon entering I found the folks at the hostess stand to be very welcoming and offering to place my name on the bar seating waiting list since I was a party of one. When I luckily scored a seat at the bar rather quickly I found the bartender to be very nice. He told me about the menus and seemed to be pretty open about the menu. I met some great people sitting at the bar that added to my great night. I ordered 2 of their lovely house recipe cocktails and beer. Do not miss the special cocktails! I ordered the wold boar chops. Amazing!!! I am not a game meat eater and I would definitely get it again. Go here for the food, drinks, service and the people. The worst meal of our Boston trip. A bona fide tourist trap! After walking atound Beacon Hill, our kids had to go to the Museum of Science, so we had to eat in the area. Regrettably, we walked into this restaurant. Service was slow - 15 min. to get our drinks, 40 min. to get our food. We were excited to finally get our food but everything was flavorless and mediocre at best. We got pea soup, Caesar salad w/chicken, Tip Tap salad, and steak sandwich. The chicken in Caesar salad was dry to the point of being a choking hazard and we agreed only good thing were the fries that came with the sandwich. Do not eat here! read more

I've been here on a business lunch on a beautiful summer day. We were sat next to the open window and the breeze was great. Our server was excellent and took our limitless drink orders. The food was pretty good! I got the BLT and my 2 coworkers got the steak tips. Really loved the environment. I heard this place is pretty happening on weekend nights and I can totally see why! Also they have sooo many beers on tap that you're sure to find something you'll like if you love beer. I just went here for the first time over the weekend and really enjoyed it. I went in a Sunday, around brunch time, and it went super busy. I was able to get a table and receive great service. The people there are friendly and never leave a table alone for too long. The menu wasn't dense. It was pretty much a menu built around brunch items and a few entree options. I got one of their burgers and wasn't disappointed. All the ingredients were fresh and it came with a good portion of French fries. Enticed to hop into this place when my daughter was visiting from the West Coast. She is an avid beer fan and the beer list here is pretty phenomenal. Hip and upbeat vibe when you walk in with inviting environment. We ordered some appetizers to share and naturally a good IPA on tap. My boyfriend and I loved this place. We stopped in one afternoon for a couple drinks and even though we had already eaten we decided to come back later for dinner. They usually have a wild game special (lunch had camel burgers, and for dinner it was veal) and an amazing beer selection. We had to wait about 20 minutes for a table at around 7:30 on a Saturday night, we passed the time grabbing drinks at the bar. Our bartender was attentive and helpful and served us quickly. After we were seated our waiter was Skylar and he was awesome!! He was well versed in the specials and we ended up getting all of the them. The tuna tartare was delicious and fresh and I wish I could have had more. Then our dinner entrees came out right on time, I had the schezuan seafood soup and my boyfriend had the veal entree and both were amazing! Worst. Service. Ever. (Read entire list for the full details) Went to the Tip Tap Room after a show at the Garden last night for a quick bit and a drink. Hostess was neutral seated us in a decent amount of time. Waitress Meghan D. took her time coming over to take our drink order....so long that we had decided on food and placed our food and drink order all at once. That was the last we heard of Meghan D. We got our food, ate, finished our drinks looked for Meghan to order more food and another round of drinks but she was for whatever reason not servicing our table. Never came back to ask how our food was, if we wanted more water, another round, nothing. Meghan was not interested in helping us at all! I asked some nervous manager for the check after I was finally able to call our waitress over and tell her we were unsatisfied. I would not recommend the Tip Tap Room if you want any level of decent service. Meghan D. And the nervous night manager should consider careers not servicing or helping people Wait..there is a silver lining my food (risotto) was to die for. I wanted to order the steak tips but again no one came over to check on me so I could not. In addition to the risotto I had the best dirty martini! Kudos to the kitchen and bar staff, front of the house wait and managers have a lot of work to do. I'll never go back..... So I went back! The GM we nice enough to immediately respond to my message above and invite my cousin and I back. Jerry was great he was attentive and and obviously did everything in his power to reverse the bad service from our previous visit. The food similar to when we went last time was amazing. We finally got the steak tips that were cooked perfectly and were able to enjoy some great appetizers....the stand out being the oysters! I saw this place on the phantom gourmet and had to check it out, even though I consider steak tips to be a very hit or miss proposition. To start, they have a great selection of beers, many new ones that I've never seem before. It being the first time I had to try the the steak tips, even though the piedmontese tips looked very interesting. The presentation wasn't my favorite, with steak on top of mash, but it was so good. These were the best steak tips I've ever had, cooked to perfection. The horseradish mash potatoes was amazing. The cherry peppers seemed out of place, and I left them on the plate. The bordelaise was the perfect compliment. The service was fast and extremely friendly. This restaurant will go on my downtown Boston short list of places to eat. read more

TIP: If you go here, you MUST try this. Don't even look at the menu, just order it while you're getting seated, thank me later! Hands down one of the best calamari's I have ever had in my life. It was so fresh, light, and crispy all at once! It's not like other restaurants that give you a lemon and marinara sauce on the side. No, no, they made their own citrusy sauce that's under the calamari so each bite was delicately touched with the yummy goodness. I would go back just for this moment again! The rest of the food was good, I do recommend the Turkey Tips, which was my meal for the night. The cranberry sauce was delectable :D. The place had a nice ambience inside with medium noise level. One side of the restaurant was dedicated to sit down dining, the other side had a bar and high tables, with plenty of space to stand and mingle. On their menu they suggest what to drink with every item which would be awesome since my family and I are clueless when it comes to pairing drinks with food. The burgers are unbelievably good. I liked the blackberry cocktail (they described it as a Brazilian tropical rum punch). I enjoyed the shrimp and scallop pasta and its taste but was disappointed that it came with only 1 scallop and 3 shrimp. Not acceptable for a $27 entree. The options are on the pricier side for entrees, but the quality of the food and the trendy atmosphere make it worth the visit. I walk by here all the time and it always seems busy, no matter what day or time. There are always a ton of people standing/hanging out on the bar side and the tables are usually full on the dining side. I was really excited when I got opportunity to finally try it out. Their cocktail and beer selection is great. We came on a Friday night at around 7:30pm without a reservation and were seated right away. The bar side seemed busier but still comfortable. I had two cocktails, the High & Tight, which was my favorite, and another one made with gin but I cannot remember the name - there are only 2 gin cocktails on the menu, so the one that isn't the Hight & Tight! They have a large selection of tips on the menu and they all looked really good. I had the pork tenderloin tips and my friend had the piedmontese tips. Mine was delicious and my friend enjoyed hers as well. They have a very diverse selection of meat and a good amount of game specials. I appreciated seeing different options than you would typically see at other restaurants in the area. The atmosphere is also really lovely. The windows open up to the street so it is a nice touch on warmer nights. It is a little on the loud side, it is a lively place combined with the fact that it is right on Cambridge St with firetrucks/ambulances going by frequently due it's location to MGH and the fire station. Not a place to have meaningful conversation but a really great place to have casual drinks and dinner. I am excited to come back and try more of their cocktails! read more

I have been to Tip Tap Room several times and it is one of my favorite Beacon Hill restaurants. They have a very wide range of draught beer selections. My brother and I brought my parents here for that reason as they love trying different beers. The bartenders are very helpful and attentive. I have had no problem getting a drink at the bar, and was amazed by how well they handled large orders. Tip Tap is known for their unique dishes that they serve. I don't do different meats, but my brother, parents and hubby have tried the antelope and steak. My favorite dish is the turkey burger, minus the cranberry. I always get a side of the cheese sauce to dip the amazing fries in. My hubby and I have also been to Tip Tap for the tipsy brunch. He loved his bloody mary and french toast and I enjoyed my Cambridge Street cocktail and signature omelet (so so good!). read more

Great setting, location, great beer selection (although there could be more local brews) and really good cocktails. My friend who only likes sweeter cocktails could not find something he liked and the bartender was friendly but she could not offer any suggestions for someone who likes sweeter drinks (all the cocktails are quite sour). I did appreciate how attentive the bartenders were. Also, it's a little annoying to get ID-d at the door when the place is so empty, which happened both times I went (a Sunday and a Saturday). The first time I came we were offered a complimentary cucumber salad, which I was thrilled about because I had just forgone it for another choice on the menu. Being the true carnivore that I am, this place intrigued me from the moment I laid my eyes on their menu--lamb, kangaroo, boar, antelope and so many more to choose from. I ordered a medium lamb burger with mushrooms and swiss that day cuz i was really craving a burger and my friend ordered a grill steak salad and we shared the blondie sundae. My burger was okay, I wish it was more flavorful. My friend also said the same of her salad. The dessert was really bizarre-- interesting but definitely not your typical dessert. The dishes we ordered would probably earn 3 stars, but the service was great, especially that of the manager. He was really nice. Based on the food-gasm-splosion that is TTR, I am completely redefining my rating algorithm. There's just no way that Tip Tap Room should be allowed to be in the same category as Tasty Burger (no offense, Tasty Burger, I still love you). It should be illegal, do you hear me? Goddamn illegal to even consider the possibility. I mean, based on my previous metric, Tip Tap Room should be rated about 10,000 stars. INFINITY STAR!!! I should start quoting Shakespeare now, like when Juliet waxes poetic about Romeo's face and how it's like all the stars in the sky or whatever. Bullshit! That wasn't Romeo's face, that was Tip Tap Room, son. In this restaurant, literally everything single thing you can put in your mouth is insanely delicious. Including the cocktails, including the tablecloths, including the wait staff, should you charm your way into letting you lick their faces. These people are made of gumdrops and jelly beans. But. The best best BEST item on the menu is, in my humble opinion, the wild boar meatballs. Remember when I called ANYTHING ELSE amazeballs? I was wrong. THESE are AMAZE BALLS! These are literal, tangible amaze balls you can put in your mouth. And trust me, you will want these balls in your mouth. Since the menu is always changing, I would just recommend you skim through the entire thing and select what looks like the craziest, most unappetizing item. Order it, eat it, and I promise you won't regret it. And wouldn't you know, the genius behind this glorious establishment, Brian Poe, is just about the most generous, dedicated, RIDICULOUS (in an awesome way) man you'll ever meet. Every night he drives around town and surveys his three restaurants, chatting with customers and just gushing all his food-love, which he has a LOT of. It's like his food-heart is 3x the size of a normal person's, and it's overflowing with passion for the culinary arts. If you get the chance, say hello, listen to him describe his recipes, take a ride in his jeep. He will probably offer you one. Just like the menu, it might sound crazy, but just go with it. How this place is not completely packed for brunch at 11:30 on a beautiful Sunday morning is beyond me. My party of three was able to waltz right in and get a seat by the large open window right away (not sure if this is normal or if we just got extraordinarily lucky). I guess the Tip Tap Room is a little expensive for brunch (it being Beacon Hill and all), but the price is totally justified by the tasty and imaginative menu. The baked brie was the perfect starter for our table. Paired with tender endives and mushrooms and smothered with a healthy dose of bacon marmalade (?!), this dish sent my taste buds working into overdrive in the most welcome of ways. The Tipsy's take on Eggs Benedict is exquisite. Rather than serve the poached eggs and ham on English muffins, the Tip Tap Room opts for a crumb dusted, butter fried smashed potato cake filled with cheese. Can you say upgrade?? The portion was a little on the small side, but was rich enough that it was probably ok. I would, however, have enjoyed a side of greens or something to round out the plate. The menu is not divided into appetizers and entrees, so be sure to ask your server which is which. I got excited by the prospect of boar meatballs, but was shocked to find out that, at $13.95, they were a small appetizer-sized portion. My dining companions opted for an omelette and a burger, and both were solid. In addition to all that's been mentioned and drooled over, The Tip Tap Room offers a rotating selection of game meats. I feel like there are so many good tings to say about Poe's new place so I'm going to break it down into categories. Space: Gorgeous. I had the chance to look around a few days before the opening and love the openness of the place, especially if you consider what it looked like before the renovation. On Monday it absolutely accommodated the crowd. Bar: For the time being the only fermented beverage choices for us Celiacs is one cider on tap and one bottled. However I have high hopes that between the growing popularity of The Alchemist (Vermont) and Poe's ambition for local brews I may see some tasty gluten free beer behind the bar on my next visit home. Food: I'm extremely biased in this category - I simply adore whatever Poe makes (that I can eat, anyhow). After assuring me that my choices were Laura-friendly, I devoured the fig appetizer and swordfish tips. Amazing. I'm drooling right now over the memory. For people used to Rattlesnake fare, fyi Poe is keeping the spicy there. This is an entirely different kettle of fish. Still, no matter which Poe kitchen you're in if you have any questions about allergens or intolerance you can always be assured that our favorite chef has your best interest at heart to make sure you have a safe, super tasty meal. Staff: I gave 5 stars because I'm assuming that whatever kinks there were on opening night will works themselves out when it comes to getting into the flow of a place. The food was delicious (fried calamari and the steak frites), but the service was so-so (slow, forgetting dishes). They were NOT good about accommodating my garlic allergy, even to the point of bringing my food with a garlic-containing sauce in a cup on the plate. I had to ask the waiter if it had garlic and he said, "Yes, that's why it's on the side." Imagine saying to someone with a shellfish allergy "I put the shrimp on the side." The steak was very rare (he hadn't asked me how I wanted it cooked) so I sent it back and it was returned still rare and like-warm. The food really was delicious, and it's possible the waiter, rather than the restaurant was the problem, hence the 4 stars. Be careful if you have a good allergy. read more
