My husband & I came here for the first time for Father's Day! He was very pleased with his meal!

We celebrated our 19th wedding anniversary here on Saturday at 8:45 pm. My husband book over a week in advance and all the times were booked! This place is popular. We lived in Columbus all our lives and have never been. We always hear great things about it and it always wins best of Columbus Steakhouse. Upon entering, we were very excited. We got seated by the restroom and there was a few people in line. The place was also very very loud! The people who sat next to us were screaming at each other just to hear each other. We ordered our drinks. I got the $13 glass of Malbec and it was huge and delicious. My husband got the Old Fashioned. Drinks were delicious. We got our roll and butter and we ordered the calamari to start. Calamari was so good! It was crispy and hot but not greasy. It was also very tender and not chewy and dipped in the sweet Asian sauce...it was delicious. We chose right! I loved it so much. The waiter also brought out cocktail sauce that had a little kick to it. I ordered the Filet Mignon 8 oz. I had to ask for the price because it sad market price. It was embarrassing but I didn't want a big surprise. Our steak came with 2 sides! I ordered the side salad and the garlic spinach. My husband ordered the Porterhouse 20 oz. With the Ceasar salad and baked potato. We also ordered the Mac and cheese side. The salads were not the best. The Ceasar salad was super fishy. The side salad had way too much blue cheese. We were getting worried about our dinner. Our steaks came out and all our worries went away. Best steak and best sides ever!!! My steak was cooked to perfection. It was so tender and perfectly seasoned. It was the best steak I ever had. My spinach was so good too. I loved the Mac and cheese too! It was the best I've ever had! We were stuffed and left so happy. It was very expensive but worth it for special occasions. read more

Our first stop here is always the bar for a cocktail. We love the vibe here and the cocktails are crafted perfectly! Highly recommend the top old fashioned or manhattan as both are made with Weller 12 yesr. On this visit we were seated on the outside patio which is enclosed with heaters. Our server was absolutely amazing but we always have wonderful service every time we visit. We started with a couple apps including the onion rings which are huge, the bacon and the shrimp cocktail. Nothing disappointed but my personal favorite was the shrimp cocktail. Next came the entrees and once again, everything was great and cooked perfectly. You really cannot go wrong with anything on the menu. We had to finish up with dessert and cocktails, especially when we saw a brandy Alexander on the menu. I came here for my birthday that's how good it is. The Top is genuinely unlike any steakhouse you've been to. It's been the same since 1955 and that's not a complaint. Dim lighting, live piano, leather booths, full Rat Pack energy. Food was good and portions are generous, sides included which you don't always get at this level. Fair warning though: this is not a get-in-get-out dinner. It's an experience, think less 'steakhouse' and more 'guided tour through 1955.' If you're on a time crunch or just want a quick steak, go somewhere else. But if you block out the evening and lean into the vibe, it's a Columbus institution worth doing at least once. read more

I would give this more a 3.5 stars. The parking lot isn't large so we street parked which was free. The atmosphere is dark and cozy. We were seated by the fireplace which was nice. Service was great. Our waiter made sure to check in on us and food came out quick. We got free bread and the calamari to start. The calamari flavor was very good and I liked the chili dipping sauce, but it was very oily. We also got the sirloin steak and the half fried shrimp. Entrees come with 2 sides which is nice. My husband asked for the steak to be medium rare, but it came out pretty rare. I told him to say something, but he didn't. I'm sure they would've fixed it for us if we would've asked. With steak, he ordered the house salad and whipped potatoes. The dressing on the salad was delicious and it was pretty refreshing. He said overall the meal was alright, but doesn't think it's worth the money we paid. My french fried shrimp was cooked perfectly. Slightly crunchy and soft on the inside. It came with a sweet and sour chili dipping sauce. Drinks were good, but on the pricier side. They use higher quality liquor though. read more

If you know you know. Solid steakhouse that's been around for eons. We've been here several times and some nights are flawless with the taste and quality while other nights are slightly off. For example their house made onion rings were crispy, hot and airy but were flavorless. We had to throw some salt on them to make them taste better. The prime rib is great but it appears much smaller than in the past. The drinks were fine. The mac and cheese was outstanding along with their steak. I recommend dining inside as opposed to outside on their patio as the inside has a Very nice ambiance. Overall if you take a date here they'd be very impressed. read more

The Top is one of my absolute favorite steakhouses in all of Columbus. They have those classic steakhouse vibes with a dark lighting ambience; an amazing bar, and the service is spectacular! Everything is absolutely delicious here! The cuts of steak are fantastic, & they're cooked & seasoned perfectly You can't go wrong with any of their martinis and starting the meal with the shrimp cocktail is perfect to share with the whole table. Had a fantastic meal at The Top last night. Decided to sit at the bar after the Columbus Clippers game was rained out. Lilah and David did a fantastic job at the bar. Super nice and attentive. They both also make an excellent Martini. I started with the Escargot which was delish. As my main I had the Rib Eye rare plus with Spinach and Baked Potato. David came by with a butter and sour cream service which I thought was a nice touch. The steak was delish I was really satisfied by the meat in my mouth. The calamari was so salty as to be inedible. It was cooked well but served on a bed of salt. It was entirely too salty. My wife's filet was ok, nothing to rave about. My steak was cooked to perfection but it was so full of gristle that it ruined the meal. My wife thought her mashed potatoes were good. My baked potato was served on its side. At this price point hand selected potatoes should be served. It was difficult to keep the butter in the potato rather than all over the plate. Server disappeared about halfway through way through the dinner. He had asked if I wanted another Guinness and I told him not yet but soon. He didn't come back until the meal was done. This place probably looked great back in the fifties when grandad proposed to grandma but now it just looks worn and dilapidated. The restroom situation means a line at the door. Honestly Longhorn Steakhouse serves a better steak at a much lower cost. We will not be back. read more

DO NOT GO!!!!!! My husband and I chose this place for our anniversary dinner, and the experience was beyond disappointing. We understood it was busy for a Wednesday night, but being busy does not excuse terrible management or awful customer service. Our reservation was at 7:00 PM. We were seated around 7:10. What was NOT fine was waiting until almost 8:30 PM for our food. Our drinks took 30-40 minutes, and when I asked about our bread and appetizers, the server admitted they had been forgotten completely. I genuinely felt bad for her because she was clearly overwhelmed and doing the best she could. The real issue was the manager. When we calmly voiced our concerns, instead of apologizing or attempting to make our anniversary dinner right, he acted as though WE were the problem for expecting basic service. His response was essentially that long waits are "typical" and because they were busy, we just needed to deal with it. That level of arrogance and lack of accountability is unacceptable in any restaurant, especially one trying to charge premium prices for an "experience." On top of that, the restaurant is so loud you can barely hear the people sitting at your own table. Between the noise, forgotten items, hour-and-a-half wait for food, and dismissive management, the entire night was ruined. After reading other reviews, it's clear this is not a one-time issue. The food was okay, but no meal is worth being treated like your concerns are an inconvenience. If you want a meaningful night out, anniversary dinner, or any experience where customer service actually matters, spend your money somewhere else. We will absolutely not be returning. read more

@Emily- yes we ate our food that I paid $400 for. As a beef cattle farmer - yes the steak was mediocre. Yes the drinks were mediocre compared to top restaurants that I have given 5 star reviews to for drinks. None of that was the cause of my review- as I stated. I am always fair in my reviews and never have I ever given such a disappointing review before. Yes the menu says in small print in the bottom right about a party of 5 but again it is well know that is not a standard practice for a party of 5. Also- as I explained, it was not the food that was my issue it is the disappointing business practices and your comments further illustrate that. I've been coming to the top for about 5 years. We favor the bar (shout out to Amy) we come in about 3/4 times a year and Amy knows us enough to have a glass of wine and a beer ready. We alternate steak and app options but LOVE the ribeye. Wine is always top notch! Will be a loyal customer for many more years to come! Very disappointed. We had high hopes for our anniversary dinner, but this experience was a letdown from start to finish. Despite having a reservation, we were seated in a cramped corner right next to the bathrooms and kitchen, with our table pushed against a wall. The noise level was overwhelming--so loud I could hardly hear myself think and actually made my head spin. They seated far too many tables at once, and it took our server nearly 10 minutes just to greet us. Drink refills were rare, and service overall felt rushed and inattentive. My steak, which I ordered medium-well, came out burnt. My husband's steak and baked potato arrived without the butter and sour cream we had to chase down after finally flagging someone. Even the calamari appetizer was overcooked. They did offer dessert for our anniversary, but by that point we just wanted to leave. Laurie was our server and she is 5*. Helped out four-top in so many ways. Great gimlet and Sazerac. Impressive. Our Rez was in the patio but there were heating issues. We were lucky we arrived early and were able to switch to the dining room. I'm not sure others would be able to do that, when we left at 745 the restaurant was super crowded. We've been coming here for over 30 years, and it has always been our go-to spot for special occasions, which makes this visit especially disappointing. My New York strip was on the thin-cut side, quite fatty, and almost seemed over-tenderized. My husband's prime rib, unfortunately, was tough. The side of spinach was overly salty and heavy on the garlic to the point where it overpowered the dish. On the positive side, the drinks all around were well made. Service was very good -- attentive, friendly, and professional throughout the evening. At this point, the Night Owl special is probably the better (and more affordable) option if you want steak. While the restaurant still has a nice old-school ambiance that we've always loved, it gets very loud when full, making conversation difficult. Sadly, despite decades of loyalty, we probably won't be returning anytime soon for dinner. It's disappointing to say, but the experience just didn't live up to the standards that once made this place so special to us. read more

While I was in Columbus for a nursery convention I was invited to dinner at this establishment. It was a bit off the beaten path but obviously it has been here for some time. So it must be good right? When you walk in it is quite dark and it is a bit of a labyrinth. I needed a guide to get me to the outside patio area and our table. As we wove through the smaller rooms and dark halls it felt like something out of a spy movie... I kept expecting nefarious deeds to be being performed around he next corner or someone to say "Bond... James Bond" or "shaken not stirred". Once outside at my table it was much more normal. they had these just planters that were outstanding in various places. The patio area was filled with plants and planters... it created a nice scene. Once we were ready the table ordered various apps and drinks. Crab cakes, calamari, etc. it was all good... nothing exceptional but good. For our mains, well it is a steakhouse, so I ordered the 14oz ribeye. With sautéed mushrooms. I asked fir medium rare but it came out medium to medium well. It wasn't shoe leather but it was on its way. The steak was seasoned nice but there was little to no juiciness. The potatoes I got as my side were good, yep that's right not mushrooms... turns out they were out of those. In the end I ate what I could of the steak and it was ok. I usually pass on desert but they were boasting a bread pudding on the desert menu and that is my favorite desert. I ordered one against my better judgement and what my stomach was telling me. I should have listened. The bread pudding was dry and really only marginally good. It certainly was not worth getting. The flavor was minimal and a dry bread pudding is not something worth eating. Our service was fantastic. Having a table of 10 was a chore for the staff and getting everything out relatively at the same time is no easy task but this crew did it. My meal was not terrible... but if I had been paying these prices for just mediocre food I would have been much more upset. By the way I tried to get out of this place after dinner and had to send up smoke signals to be rescued. They sent out a search party and they rescued me. This is a confusing building! read more

We always loved the Top... been going there for 30 years. But 2 bad experiences in a row and I doubt we go back. Last night the service was great, but my medium rare filet came out medium well, To not make a scene i tried to eat it but just too overcooked. Our server immediately asked the kitchen to refire one, but it took over 20 minutes and everyone else was done eating and plates were cleared. Then the second steak was terrible as well. Not overcooked, but way over seasoned to the point of being inedible, and I don't know how you cook a steak where the top third and bottom third are well done and tough, and the middle is cold and rare, but they did it. Baked potato's always were salted and tasty, this one felt like it came out of the microwave. Just a bad meal. The time before we were guests of a family member, so I did not send the lamb back, but it was as tough as shoe leather, overcooked, over seasoned and just bad. I have actually watched the rating for this place going down, and have had several friends mention poor experiences. Sad but it looks like a long time Columbus staple is no longer on our list to go to. read more

The food here is amazing! The restaurant has been around for quite some time and that's not a bad thing as I think that is one of the main reasons the food does taste so good. I think the ovens have a very strong influence on the taste. Don't forget the chefs are some of the best in the city and deliver consistently.
