This place is a must try!! I have been 3 times is the past week, and I enjoyed it every time. My family ordered different salads which were all enjoyable! We had "The Buff N Cluck", "Santorini", "Chicken Caesar Salad", and the "Beef Stro" salads. The baked potato is amazing! I got the chili cheese baked potato with added bacon and steak and omg it was great and so full of flavor. I got the piña colada smoothie and it was so delicious, as are the other ones I've tried in the past. I was able to sample the soups and the chili and all of them are delicious. My favorite might be either the broccoli & cheddar or the chicken tortilla. I sampled the juices as well and they all taste fresh and delicious. They're all organic! My new favorite is the mandarin. I tried their açaí and it is also really good! I'll definitely be back to get an actual açaí bowl soon. This place is always clean, including the bathroom. Great customer service as always, and nice to dine in. Thank you! 10/10 I will definitely be back! Highly recommended.
I can't believe I've missed out frequenting this spot. Fresh, tasty and so many choices. A perfect salad, soup and baked potato restaurant. I got the chicken Waldorf salad which needed a little more dressing but it was good. The clam chowder was delicious. We were given samples of other soups and all were very delicious. I believe they make everything in house.
Food is always fresh. Healthy ingredients that make you feel good. Customer service is always wonderful. The staff always greets you and goes above and beyond to make you feel welcome. The restaurant is clean, bright and comfortable.
For a $10 smoothie (LG) $7 (reg) with limited smoothie options I was expecting something super yummy. My group and I were in the area and saw smoothies advertised outside, we swung by and thought our drinks were a little too sweet and not as fresh/tropical as we expected (I know, it's more of a food spot nor a tropical food spot) but a girl can dream! My friends green drink was okay, she got the regular size and ended up throwing away the last of it. lots of seating and no wait. Great customer service from the gentleman in the front & menu options! I'd come back to try the food options but skip the smoothie.
Rick, the owner and all of his employees , were incredibly kind and welcoming! He offered me free soup samples, which was really thoughtful, and he made the whole experience feel very welcoming and friendly. His customer service was amazing, and you can genuinely tell that he cares about his customers and the experience they have. I really appreciated his kindness and generosity. Thank you to the employees aswell :) Definitely a great owner and someone who makes you want to come back! Highly recommend Toss Up!
Walking into The Toss Up for the first time to a warm greeting by owner Rick and teamsters. Food and drinks are amazing. Lots of flavor in this healthy comfort food. Now one of my go-to spots when I return home to visit.
Staff were incredibly friendly and helpful in explaining the menu since it was our first time. I love the idea of a fast casual eatery that has healthy options. And I don't think I've seen another place in the area that has big baked potatoes on their menu! The food was tasty, the space was clean and I loved that they were playing 90s/2000s R&B videos on the screen. No issue parking in the adjacent lot when we arrived, but I could see it getting a bit busy during lunch times with other restaurants in the same plaza. Looking forward to coming back!
When you're in the mood for something healthy yet tasty, The Toss Up has been my go-to for salads! They have a good variety of set options or you can build your own. My favorite is their Baja Salad. It comes with romaine, mixed greens, corn, black beans, red onion, cherry tomatoes, avocado, cilantro, cheddar cheese, tortilla strips, and grilled chicken. I appreciate the variety of fresh ingredients in this salad! It usually comes with a spicy jalapeno dressing, but I prefer their BBQ Ranch. "The Toss Up" Cobb is pretty good as well. This one has romaine, cherry tomatoes, avocado, hard boiled egg, cheddar cheese, bacon, roast turkey, bacon, and red onions. All of their salads come with a piece of flat bread. too. Their pre-set salads are definitely a better deal than if you try to select each ingredient when you build your own bowl. Another thing I like about The Toss Up is they have other pasta, baked potato, and soup options in case you feel like you need something extra on top of a salad. We tried their Loaded Baked Potato Bowl and their Cheddar Broccoli Baked Potato Bowl, and they were HUGE! Definitely good for sharing. We usually order online ahead of time, and the estimated wait time always seems oddly long, but sometimes when we get to the restaurant, there aren't too many people there. Not sure if the estimated pick up time system needs to be calibrated?
My Mistake! You ever go to a restaurant and they do things sooo good/right you realize you judged them against previous *meh* experiences? Well, that's what I realized today. I stopped in to pick up lunch for myself and my family. I ordered two shrimp alfredos and two cesar salads. I always get my salads with the dressing mixed in. I'm used to places having watery dressing with barely any flavor so I just assumed The Toss Up would kinda be the same, especially because this is a cesar dressing (and yes, I've been here before to dine in and got the dressing mixed in then too, to the Thai salad). By the time I got home (after making a stop), my salad had wilted a bit and my croutons were not as chrunchy. I'm not mad about it because THE FLAVOR!!!!! OMG!!! this cesar dressing is amazing! Creamy, sumptuous, heavy in the best way possible. Every bite of lettuce, parmesan cheese, chicken, and crouton had dressing on it. And I even ordered an extra dressing! As always, service was great. Such friendly, chatty, kind folks work here. Expect to be greeted when you walk in and get a friendly "bye, see you later" when you leave. BTW, my family loved their food, "delicious" is what they said :) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ This might be a Yelp thing or a me thing but the review above erased my previous review. I was in to The Toss Up on Friday, June 13 and had a great experience. The Thai salad was so flavorful and full of everything fresh and crunchy--veggies and peanuts. We were greeted warmly by the owner who explained the menu to us in detail. My friend and I split the spaghetti and meatballs and I can't recall the last time I had pasta this good. This first experience was just soooo positive it's why I came back. I wanted another delicious meal and wanted my family to know what I've been raving about.
I finally had time to sit down and do this review I've ordered from them a couple of times after my daughters told me about the place - and let me tell you... The Toss Up! They always Boss Up! Let's start with the packaging - because presentation begins before the first bite. It's like trying to get into Fort Knox You literally have to cut your way in, and I LOVE that. It guarantees your food is sealed, fresh, and not tampered with. Now let's talk about the food... whew! Whether it's their fresh, delicious salads or these humongous, fully loaded potatoes, the quality is always on point. Everything is flavorful, well-seasoned, and made with care. And that chili?! I don't know if it's homemade, but it definitely tastes like it. And if it's not - keep doctoring it up, because it is DELICIOUS! Rich, hearty, and full of flavor. Thank you, The Toss Up! On this grey So Cal day I was feeling too lazy to make my own salad. I was hungry, my bestie had time to spare so we headed to The Toss Up for a soup and salad lunch. I love when I'm greeted upon entering a restaurant, it's an acknowledgement that creates a positive experience right from the start. We approached the counter and placed our orders. Simple, straight forward and despite a tiny error that was easily fixed, the process was painless. Our salads, soups and beverages arrived and we dug in. My Baja salad was super yummy - the creamy jalapeño dressing was so good - it has a kick and I loved it. Her Santorini salad was equally yummy and both of us agreed we'd order them again. The broccoli cheddar soups were hot and tasty and we loved that the cheddar tasted authentic - not one of those afterthought soups thrown on a menu to check a box. The chunks of broccoli were perfect in size and the only thing I would have liked to have was a sprinkling of pepper. The service was superb. Friendly and personable which makes the experience even better. These days I don't mind paying more for food if the service is top notch. Would have liked the soda to be accessible for refills. You're given a plastic lid to cover your bowl for leftovers - we didn't have anything to take home, so the lids went unused and became waste. Overall, the menu is loaded with options and coupled with the service, I would visit again. Oh! Almost forgot to mention the R&B music playing in the background! That made the visit memorable. Keep on, keeping on The Toss Up!
Incredible!!! My friend and I came here for a healthier option after a day at the theme parks, and this did not disappointed! We were greeted with incredible customer service, and were showered with samples. I ultimately had the Dreamy Vegan, and he built his own salad, but wow!! The size of our salads, and the protein, as well as the dressings, absolutely delicious. I also got to try the broccoli cheddar and tomato soup, and both were bursting with the most delicious flavors! The restaurant was clean, and such a fun atmosphere to spend some time hanging out after a great day! DO NOT SKIP THIS WONDERFUL PLACE!
I've been here a few times. I like to support smaller businesses anytime I can, however, I think today might be my last time coming here. My wife ordered the Southwest Beef Bowl. The first issue was the how small the portion was for the bowl and also the amount of meat that was in it. It literally had maybe about 8-10 small cubes of beef and the rest being rice, which also was very mushy and not pleasant to eat. Secondly, the seasoning on their items lack quite a bit, especially the meatballs in their spaghetti. They are just so bland and the meat also has a very odd texture to it. Not exactly sure what they do to it, but it's not good. And this was the second time I've ordered that meal. The salads are pretty decent to good. I've had their Baja Salad and the Texas Smokehouse and they came out pretty good and also a good portion. I tried their "wraps" but really they are just burrito salads with them using a flour tortilla vs a real pita wrap. Not the end of the world, but using flour tortillas makes the wraps taste different and have more tendency of breaking apart easier when eating. I think from now on, I'll just go to Simply Salad down the street as their food is always good and portions are consistent.

The salads here are so good! Since it is really close to where I live, I have come here multiple times. The salad portions are also pretty big and sometimes I can't even finish it. They're loaded with flavor! I haven't been disappointed with anything I have ordered. Only downside is that it does take a while for them to get the food ready. Wait times for it can be pretty long though so I think it's better to call in ahead of time to make an order and pick it up. Otherwise, if you order there, expect to wait a while. read more

I love to support local business and the Toss Up is such a healthy option in the Southbay. The restaurant is clean and modern with very friendly and helpful service, and they have ample parking considering the other restaurants in the center. I ordered a Chinese chicken salad wrap and a large broccoli cheddar soup. The wrap had very fresh vegetables and large chunks of chicken breast within. My only suggestion is that the salad dressing (that was delicious) was not uniformly in the wrap. I had some parts of the wrap replete with dressing and a ton of dressing on the ends. The broccoli cheddar soup was a little underwhelming and needed some salt. I think the soup needs more broccoli as well and the consistency was more like a chowder. When I added crackers to the soup, the flavor popped out. Overall this business has many different offerings including pasta and açaí bowls. The price was reasonable and I will return to try out other options. Perhaps I will get a side of dressing next time so that I can control the amount of dressing in the salad. Okay After an extremely long work day I craved a loaded bake potato, I didn't feel like going to the market or preparing a potato so I drove for an hour to get one. Upon my arrival to "The Toss Up" there was one person ahead of me in line . As I reviewed the menu , I noticed / overheard the pleasant conversation the cashier was having with the customer ahead of me, which really set my tone (after a long day/ drive) of communicating when placing my order. I can now say that I have had the BEST salad I have ever had in my lifetime. We found The Toss Up just by seeing their GRAND OPENING sign. They were closed at the time but we saw it was a salad place and we love a great salad. So we remembered this spot and drove back from Long Beach to Gardena to check it out. The 13.5 mile drive was so WORTH IT. I had the BEST SALAD I HAVE EVER HAD IN MY LIFETIME. SIMPLY AMAZING FRESHNESS & FLAVOR. You can make your own salad by telling them what to put on it. The list of ingredients is HUGE. Or you can try one of their many salad recipes. I decided to try the BEEF-STRO salad. I could not believe how delicious this was. Now I keep going back but it's hard to not order it every time. My partner an I have tried other things now and EVERYTHING is delicious...EVERYTHING...SOUPS, PASTAS, WRAPS, SMOOTHIES. Everything is so fresh tasting and you will have unique salad dressings that is their OWN recipes. You will not find these dressings elsewhere and they are MEMORABLE. This is a family owned business and not part of a chain (YET) but it could easily be a franchise if they wanted it to be. The size of the portions and the pricing is FANTASTIC. The steak on the Beef-stro salad tastes as if you were eating filet mignon from a fine steak house. All of the meats are delicious. I highly recommend this BEAUTIFUL, VERY CLEAN, FULLY STAFFED WITH GREAT PEOPLE, AND DELICIOUS EATERY. No matter where you are at, it's worth the drive. I've only been to this spot 2 times (in a row) and already I'm impressed. The staff is super friendly and kind. The first day I went a very nice gentleman went over the entire menu with me and made sure I knew my options. Their salads are great. Tasty and a large enough size to get full from. Was driving down the Main Street and looked over to see that there was a salad bar. We pulled up, went inside and was greeted with the friendliest staff I've ever encountered. They had a movie playing, some music, I decided to dine in. The salads were so good, I finished my husbands lol. We also ordered a mandarin and very berry fresh juice drinks that were tasty. This a new place for salads. The place is clean. The staff is extremely helpful and nice. My cashier was Barry excellent customer service. The place is spacious with large booths. They have two big screen televisions on the wall that were playing sports. A worker came by and give us a sample of a strawberry smoothie and it was delicious. They do not just have salads they have baked potatoes that we're huge, soups, wraps lifestyle bowls and acai bowls. I can't wait to try something different the next time around. I only had one issue with my order I paid for extra salad dressing and did not get it. My bad for not checking I guess. I hope it's not some bomb homemade ranch then I'm gone be disappointed.
