This place is a must try!! I have been 3 times is the past week, and I enjoyed it every time. My family ordered different salads which were all enjoyable! We had "The Buff N Cluck", "Santorini", "Chicken Caesar Salad", and the "Beef Stro" salads. The baked potato is amazing! I got the chili cheese baked potato with added bacon and steak and omg it was great and so full of flavor. I got the piña colada smoothie and it was so delicious, as are the other ones I've tried in the past. I was able to sample the soups and the chili and all of them are delicious. My favorite might be either the broccoli & cheddar or the chicken tortilla. I sampled the juices as well and they all taste fresh and delicious. They're all organic! My new favorite is the mandarin. I tried their açaí and it is also really good! I'll definitely be back to get an actual açaí bowl soon. This place is always clean, including the bathroom. Great customer service as always, and nice to dine in. Thank you! 10/10 I will definitely be back! Highly recommended.

I can't believe I've missed out frequenting this spot. Fresh, tasty and so many choices. A perfect salad, soup and baked potato restaurant. I got the chicken Waldorf salad which needed a little more dressing but it was good. The clam chowder was delicious. We were given samples of other soups and all were very delicious. I believe they make everything in house.

Food is always fresh. Healthy ingredients that make you feel good. Customer service is always wonderful. The staff always greets you and goes above and beyond to make you feel welcome. The restaurant is clean, bright and comfortable.

Green Smoothie & Pina colada/strawberry smoothie

For a $10 smoothie (LG) $7 (reg) with limited smoothie options I was expecting something super yummy. My group and I were in the area and saw smoothies advertised outside, we swung by and thought our drinks were a little too sweet and not as fresh/tropical as we expected (I know, it's more of a food spot nor a tropical food spot) but a girl can dream! My friends green drink was okay, she got the regular size and ended up throwing away the last of it. lots of seating and no wait. Great customer service from the gentleman in the front & menu options! I'd come back to try the food options but skip the smoothie.

Rick, the owner and all of his employees , were incredibly kind and welcoming! He offered me free soup samples, which was really thoughtful, and he made the whole experience feel very welcoming and friendly. His customer service was amazing, and you can genuinely tell that he cares about his customers and the experience they have. I really appreciated his kindness and generosity. Thank you to the employees aswell :) Definitely a great owner and someone who makes you want to come back! Highly recommend Toss Up!

Walking into The Toss Up for the first time to a warm greeting by owner Rick and teamsters. Food and drinks are amazing. Lots of flavor in this healthy comfort food. Now one of my go-to spots when I return home to visit.

Maya D.

Staff were incredibly friendly and helpful in explaining the menu since it was our first time. I love the idea of a fast casual eatery that has healthy options. And I don't think I've seen another place in the area that has big baked potatoes on their menu! The food was tasty, the space was clean and I loved that they were playing 90s/2000s R&B videos on the screen. No issue parking in the adjacent lot when we arrived, but I could see it getting a bit busy during lunch times with other restaurants in the same plaza. Looking forward to coming back!

When you're in the mood for something healthy yet tasty, The Toss Up has been my go-to for salads! They have a good variety of set options or you can build your own. My favorite is their Baja Salad. It comes with romaine, mixed greens, corn, black beans, red onion, cherry tomatoes, avocado, cilantro, cheddar cheese, tortilla strips, and grilled chicken. I appreciate the variety of fresh ingredients in this salad! It usually comes with a spicy jalapeno dressing, but I prefer their BBQ Ranch. "The Toss Up" Cobb is pretty good as well. This one has romaine, cherry tomatoes, avocado, hard boiled egg, cheddar cheese, bacon, roast turkey, bacon, and red onions. All of their salads come with a piece of flat bread. too. Their pre-set salads are definitely a better deal than if you try to select each ingredient when you build your own bowl. Another thing I like about The Toss Up is they have other pasta, baked potato, and soup options in case you feel like you need something extra on top of a salad. We tried their Loaded Baked Potato Bowl and their Cheddar Broccoli Baked Potato Bowl, and they were HUGE! Definitely good for sharing. We usually order online ahead of time, and the estimated wait time always seems oddly long, but sometimes when we get to the restaurant, there aren't too many people there. Not sure if the estimated pick up time system needs to be calibrated?

Dalia J.

My Mistake! You ever go to a restaurant and they do things sooo good/right you realize you judged them against previous *meh* experiences? Well, that's what I realized today. I stopped in to pick up lunch for myself and my family. I ordered two shrimp alfredos and two cesar salads. I always get my salads with the dressing mixed in. I'm used to places having watery dressing with barely any flavor so I just assumed The Toss Up would kinda be the same, especially because this is a cesar dressing (and yes, I've been here before to dine in and got the dressing mixed in then too, to the Thai salad). By the time I got home (after making a stop), my salad had wilted a bit and my croutons were not as chrunchy. I'm not mad about it because THE FLAVOR!!!!! OMG!!! this cesar dressing is amazing! Creamy, sumptuous, heavy in the best way possible. Every bite of lettuce, parmesan cheese, chicken, and crouton had dressing on it. And I even ordered an extra dressing! As always, service was great. Such friendly, chatty, kind folks work here. Expect to be greeted when you walk in and get a friendly "bye, see you later" when you leave. BTW, my family loved their food, "delicious" is what they said :) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ This might be a Yelp thing or a me thing but the review above erased my previous review. I was in to The Toss Up on Friday, June 13 and had a great experience. The Thai salad was so flavorful and full of everything fresh and crunchy--veggies and peanuts. We were greeted warmly by the owner who explained the menu to us in detail. My friend and I split the spaghetti and meatballs and I can't recall the last time I had pasta this good. This first experience was just soooo positive it's why I came back. I wanted another delicious meal and wanted my family to know what I've been raving about.

Up close and personal ‍ Thick, rich, and loaded with flavor. Every spoonful hitting, no shortcuts

I finally had time to sit down and do this review I've ordered from them a couple of times after my daughters told me about the place - and let me tell you... The Toss Up! They always Boss Up! Let's start with the packaging - because presentation begins before the first bite. It's like trying to get into Fort Knox You literally have to cut your way in, and I LOVE that. It guarantees your food is sealed, fresh, and not tampered with. Now let's talk about the food... whew! Whether it's their fresh, delicious salads or these humongous, fully loaded potatoes, the quality is always on point. Everything is flavorful, well-seasoned, and made with care. And that chili?! I don't know if it's homemade, but it definitely tastes like it. And if it's not - keep doctoring it up, because it is DELICIOUS! Rich, hearty, and full of flavor. Thank you, The Toss Up! Because like JJ would say... well, if you know, you know; DY-NO-MITE!

On this grey So Cal day I was feeling too lazy to make my own salad. I was hungry, my bestie had time to spare so we headed to The Toss Up for a soup and salad lunch. I love when I'm greeted upon entering a restaurant, it's an acknowledgement that creates a positive experience right from the start. We approached the counter and placed our orders. Simple, straight forward and despite a tiny error that was easily fixed, the process was painless. Our salads, soups and beverages arrived and we dug in. My Baja salad was super yummy - the creamy jalapeño dressing was so good - it has a kick and I loved it. Her Santorini salad was equally yummy and both of us agreed we'd order them again. The broccoli cheddar soups were hot and tasty and we loved that the cheddar tasted authentic - not one of those afterthought soups thrown on a menu to check a box. The chunks of broccoli were perfect in size and the only thing I would have liked to have was a sprinkling of pepper. The service was superb. Friendly and personable which makes the experience even better. These days I don't mind paying more for food if the service is top notch. Would have liked the soda to be accessible for refills. You're given a plastic lid to cover your bowl for leftovers - we didn't have anything to take home, so the lids went unused and became waste. Overall, the menu is loaded with options and coupled with the service, I would visit again. Oh! Almost forgot to mention the R&B music playing in the background! That made the visit memorable. Keep on, keeping on The Toss Up!

Here is the description of the Dreamy Vegan Salad

Evan W.

Incredible!!! My friend and I came here for a healthier option after a day at the theme parks, and this did not disappointed! We were greeted with incredible customer service, and were showered with samples. I ultimately had the Dreamy Vegan, and he built his own salad, but wow!! The size of our salads, and the protein, as well as the dressings, absolutely delicious. I also got to try the broccoli cheddar and tomato soup, and both were bursting with the most delicious flavors! The restaurant was clean, and such a fun atmosphere to spend some time hanging out after a great day! DO NOT SKIP THIS WONDERFUL PLACE!

Southwest Beef Southwest Beef and Bean Bowl with hardly any meat and super mushy rice. Flavor was not good.

Ernie G.

I've been here a few times. I like to support smaller businesses anytime I can, however, I think today might be my last time coming here. My wife ordered the Southwest Beef Bowl. The first issue was the how small the portion was for the bowl and also the amount of meat that was in it. It literally had maybe about 8-10 small cubes of beef and the rest being rice, which also was very mushy and not pleasant to eat. Secondly, the seasoning on their items lack quite a bit, especially the meatballs in their spaghetti. They are just so bland and the meat also has a very odd texture to it. Not exactly sure what they do to it, but it's not good. And this was the second time I've ordered that meal. The salads are pretty decent to good. I've had their Baja Salad and the Texas Smokehouse and they came out pretty good and also a good portion. I tried their "wraps" but really they are just burrito salads with them using a flour tortilla vs a real pita wrap. Not the end of the world, but using flour tortillas makes the wraps taste different and have more tendency of breaking apart easier when eating. I think from now on, I'll just go to Simply Salad down the street as their food is always good and portions are consistent.

I work in the service industry and I must say I never been into a establishment and Been greeted by the owner and introduced to a food establishment as well explained and genuine as I have at this place. RICK was that person so ask for him when your their because I've been there 3 times since the first and he's there everytime. I build my own salad everytime so far but they also have pastas wraps smoothies and all of the above and you could see them make it and see the ingredients. Overall a amazin establishment and great food and I'll be a reg forsure. All the employees hold the same caliber of service that he showed me soon as I walk in.. highly recommended!!! read more

I should have taken pictures of the food, but we ate it before I gave it a thought. Let me start over. I was waiting on mini me to finish volleyball practice and was hungry. Some recent test results have me rethinking the food that I eat so I was looking for healthier lighter options and this place popped up in my search. I looked through the pics on Yelp and saw the menu was vast. Really liked that they had salad, soups, pastas and baked potato because each of these are different family members "go to" foods. I rush there and I get there shortly before they closed. They still greeted me in a positive manner and was patient with me as I tried to hurry up and decide what to order for the hubby. I ordered the loaded baked potato, chicken Caesar salad, a beef stro (can't recall exact name) and shrimp Alfredo. All looked really good. The loaded baked potato was really good (I tried it) and a big portion. My son who eats me out of my house did not finish it. My mini me is pretty picky with her pasta and she enjoyed the shrimp and Alfredo. I'm not a seafood person so I didn't try this dish. My chicken Caesar was good, just what you would expect. They also had a little piece of bread which I really enjoyed to top it off in the salad and Alfredo. The beef stro was also good. I didn't try this either because I was full from my Caesar. All the foods were really good portion sizes. So, the food is good and heathy, the folks are nice, the place was very clean (huge plus) and the people that work there look like me so I'm definitely going to be returning and will let my fam know about this spot as well. read more

Quick review. Friendly and smart service. Was able to customize a keto option for their salad options. The beef stro salad was quite delicious, fresh, and actually filling. The ambience is great with a nice modern wood and green theme. The prices are just a bit more than I'm comfortable with but the food you get does make it worth it. I'd they could figure out a way to get prices around Chipotle levels they would be my first option in the area when eating out. read more

Ordered two salads and waited 30+ minutes after pick up time. It was busy, but it felt unreasonably long considering people came in ordering after me, were walking out with their order while I was still waiting. I'm not one to complain much since I have worked in the food industry and I have never left any kind of review but this one really upset me. I politely asked them 3 times within the 30+ minute wait if they had my order and they kept saying it was being made. Also, who seemed to be the owner or manager had people being prioritized over me even though I had been waiting for an extended time. There was a couple people that had walked in that actually knew this person and their orders were brought out within 5-10 minutes, which again was weird because I had been waiting for at least 20 by then. I finally did get my order and on top of everything it was missing a dressing. Will not be going back. read more

Never did I ever think I'd be leaving a review at a restaurant who's bread and butter... does not come from bread and butter, let alone giving it 5 stars. Our visit took place midweek about 20 minutes before closing, as we walked through the door I expected to hear a sigh or two as we were coming in so close to closing. Instead we were greeted by the entire restaurant and a cashier more than willing to give us the run down of the ENTIRE menu in less than two breathes. I went with his suggestion of the Cobb salad-no substitutions. I felt the price was ok... a bit on the higher side, until the food arrived at our table and saw the portion. It looked amazing and tasted even better, the ingredients were so fresh and without realizing I was scarfing it down faster than an animal style double double. The portion was filling and I couldn't get enough. I'm not entirely sure if this is the healthiest option but if I ever "die by salad"... I hope it's this salad. To the staff, you guys are awesome and I'm glad we stumbled in here and hope to have the same experience every time we visit. read more

But honestly, that's part of the charm. It's like Gardena's version of a speakeasy... except instead of cocktails, you're sneaking in for a fat Italian sandwich. Let me tell you, my Pop's Italian sandwich came out looking like it was sexy and ready to be destroyed. All grown. Mature. Responsible. If you're looking for a spot that's casual, clean, and gives you that sports‑bar‑but-make-it-chill vibe, The Toss Up in Gardena is exactly that. TVs on, energy relaxed, and the kind of place where you can walk in looking like you just survived a weekend of bad decisions. It's got that friendly neighborhood sports‑bar feel, bright, tidy, and comfortable without trying too hard. You can actually hear yourself think, which is great because I needed a quiet moment to reflect on all the carbs I inhaled over the weekend. The Toss Up feels like a reset button disguised as a restaurant. Service is quick, welcoming, and on point. They greet you like they already know you're here to make better choices today. No judgment, just vibes and efficiency. Now let's talk about my chicken salad, aka my attempt at redemption. Fresh greens, juicy chicken, and enough flavor to make me forget I wasn't eating fries. It's satisfying without being heavy, the kind of salad that makes you feel like you're doing something responsible for your body, even if your body is still processing Saturday night. I took one bite and thought, "Wow... maybe I can turn my life around." Second bite: "Okay, maybe not today, but this salad is a good start." Listen, after eating like a raccoon in a trash can all weekend, this chicken salad felt like a spiritual cleanse. I swear my stomach whispered, "Thank you, bro." If salads had Yelp accounts, this one would leave me a five‑star review for finally behaving. Miguel read more

Title: A Gem in LA - Toss-Up! Review: A visit to Toss-Up was a delightful experience from start to finish! The Thai tuna bowl, with a shrimp substitution, was a flavor explosion, and the berry juice drink hit the spot - fresh, not overly sweet, just perfect! The owner surprised us with a sample of their acai smoothie, tasting like fresh ice cream - a real treat that has me hooked. Forget Jamba Juice; Toss-Up is my new go-to spot in LA! The environment is spotlessly clean, sleek, cute, and modern, creating a wonderful atmosphere for a meal. I absolutely recommend experiencing the wonders of this fantastic restaurant. Needless to say, I'll be coming back for more. One standout feature is their diverse menu options that cater to all diets. It's evident that Toss-Up considers every guest's preferences, ensuring a satisfying dining experience for everyone. In addition to the great food and welcoming atmosphere, the exceptional service and hospitality elevate the overall experience. Portion sizes are generous, guaranteeing you won't leave hungry. Toss-Up has truly won me over - a hidden gem that deserves all the praise. Don't miss out on this culinary gem in LA! read more

The food at this restaurant is not only healthy, but also delicious. The customer service is exceptional, thanks to the owner Rick who is always welcoming and full of positive energy. The menu offers a variety of options including salads, soups, and wraps, and I highly recommend trying the build-your-own salad with fresh greens, cilantro, peppers, and sauteed mushrooms with salmon. The portion of salmon was generous and the flavor was amazing. There are also a variety of tasty dressings to choose from. But the best part was when Rick let my friend and I taste his chili, tortilla, and clam chowder soups, which were all unique and delicious in their own way. The tortilla soup had just the right amount of spice and all the soups had a rich and flavorful taste. I will definitely be coming back to this restaurant with friends and family, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a healthy and enjoyable dining experience. Thank you, Rick, for your friendly staff and amazing energy that make this place a must-visit! read more

I had an incredible experience at TossUp, and I just have to share how amazing the customer service is! On my first visit, one of the employees was so friendly and took the time to explain the menu, offering great suggestions. The next day, I had the pleasure of speaking with the owner, who was equally kind. He even let me sample the dressings to find my favorite and offered a taste of the soup, which was a nice touch. What I love about TossUp is that they offer more than just salads--they have delicious potatoes, pasta, and smoothies as well. The food itself was fantastic! As you can see from the picture, everything is beautifully prepared, with fresh ingredients chopped perfectly for easy eating. The attention to detail is clear, and it really enhances the overall experience. I can't wait to come back and spread the word about TossUp. It's hands down the best salad you'll find, and once you try it, you won't want to go anywhere else! read more

The cali burrito, house made chips and smash burger were all fantastic, flavorful, not overly salty and fresh tasting. All their foods, sauces and dressings are made in house. Even their cookies and drip coffee are delicious and made in house. So glad we have found a new lunch spot. They apparently also have taco tuesdays and pizza thursdays, so we'll gladly be coming back.

I can confidently say i have tried nearly everything in the menu except for the tuna melt. I love that they upgrade their menu every few months because it never gets boring. The staff has always been extremely friendly since day 1. My favorite item on the menu would have to be the breakfast tacos. The food is always loaded never skimpy which is a plus. Definitely always try to recommend to everyone :)

He said the fried rice was 10/10, pork was disgusting and the orange chicken was super disgusting unbeatable. They fried the orange chicken in old rancid oil and it stunk. I can't speak to the tacos sold at a place that does drinks as I haven't tried them, but I can say the following: Ambiance (3/5): Small but cute, they don't skimp on AC even as it's a sunny little shop. Great for studying if you're able to nab a seat; they have three tables that seat 4 (maybe 5 if you bunch up on the bench). The natural lighting makes it pretty nice to so some work in there. They have an extension cord with multiple outlets tucked in the corner under the corner table. Service (4/5): Server was friendly and quick. I'm glad he asked if regular milk was okay because it reminded me that it's not for my husband. It's a small thing but it's appreciated! I also loved the little surprise of getting some extra smoothie in a small cup, perfect for my daughter. Why can't other shops be like this? Appreciate it! Drink (4/5): The strawberry banana smoothies tasted fresh. Real fruit bits and not overly sweet or artificial tasting. My husband and I both noted that it had great flavor. My only gripe was that it was still a bit icy; it was hard at times sucking the smoothie out of the boba straw we used. If it were blended fully and smoothly, I would say it would be near perfect. Would we come back? Based on this experience, if we need a quick stop for a drink before the freeway, this makes for a good stop. I wouldn't mind trying out one of their match drinks next time (those look pretty good)!
