A timeless classic restaurant that's been here under different names since the '60's. My husband saw Jagger and Keith Richards having dinner here back in the day. We came to celebrate the birth of our first grandchild and shared dinner with the other grandparents and the kids with their new 10 day old baby. The staff was great about putting three heaters on us to keep warm at our reserved table on the deck. The view is spectacular day or night. We all gave the food top scores. Perfect scallops and risotto, clams in a very flavorful broth, seafood pasta, crab cakes, ahi tartare, shrimp. All excellent. Service great. Pricey but worth it. read more

I was really excited to try the food at The Trident and the views from their patio are stunning. Well while the food was delicious the service was terrible. Our server took 15 min to even come by to introduce herself and grab a drink order. We ordered our food. It came and the presentation and taste of everything was good. Our server did not check on us at all after that. I needed a refill on my wine and my partner needed a refill on his drink and that never happened. She brought us the check and we sat for another 20 minutes waiting for her to come back and get it. In my mind you visit restaurants of certain calibers for the service not always the things you are being served. I was truly disappointed and I don't feel like I will return whenever I am in the area again. read more

Been here a few times. Great and amazing view of the water and SF skyline.. Service is good.. Entrees were okay.. but the dessert, specifically the banana bites, is seriously the best dessert ever! Coconut dusted banana with italian salted ice cream, ghirardelli chocolate dipping sauce, with fresh strawberry and pineapple on the side, all drizzled with caramel sauce! Its like a dream come true. I feel all giddy whenever I take a bite! Anyway.... They do have a live band on wednesday and friday nights which can be fun. Sometimes, the manager also belts out a tune. Its quite entertaining really. My only complaint about this place is that I feel like its so dark I can barely read the menu. I came here for brunch on a Sunday and ordered their Crab Cake Benedict for $24. The crab cakes were alright, but their poached eggs were pretty much hard boiled (see pictures). My boyfriend ordered the fish and chips ($23). He said the fish was good, but the fries were cold and seemed obviously refried several times (hard and without much potato inside). Came here during the height of lunch time and it wasn't crowded too badly, even though it seems like this is a very popular spot. You have to go with the outdoor seating, you'd be a fool to pass up that view. Thought that there wasn't really all that many choices on the lunch menu, was hoping for more of a variety of seafood considering the location. Went with the fish and chips and they were ok, nothing out of this world. Would have to try this place for dinner, but Sausalito is the most overrun tourist town I've ever seen so I'll probably just avoid it. read more

The food and service is not good. I got a steak and it was over cooked and the potatoes that came with it were bland. They tasted like all that was done to prepare them was boiling. My husband got fish and chips and the fish was so heavily salted it left a salt taste in your mouth after you took a bite of it. My aunt ordered the cioppino and she said if you want a good cioppino go to a good Italian restaurant don't order it from here. We told the manager and he looked very upset with us and was giving us a look like he was so annoyed that we complained about the food. He reluctantly took our plates away from the table. Quick to bring food, drinks, etc. Asked about where we were from Our review is on the food and drinks. First off, the bartender was unable to make classic cocktails. My husband ordered a Manhattan and I ordered a martini. The Manhattan was missing the sweet notes of vermouth and cherries. We had to ask our server to bring us cherries in cherry juice to add to the drink. My martini was made properly but I am wondering about what gin was used - I requested Bombay Sapphire as this is all I drink and I was definitely not served that (but I was charged for that, mind you). The second round of drinks was a lemon drop and glass of wine. Wine was fine but the lemon drop was WAY off. Very off putting. Couldn't tell if it was a mix or just bad simple syrup. Either way, we barely drank it. The food. Wow. I can't believe you're charging this amount of money for these low quality entrees! We had the scallops and risotto and as soon as it was served, it reminded me of the first entree entry level chefs have to make on Gordon Ramsay's show. The only shining light were the scallops. The risotto was boring and the ingredients were obviously NOT fresh (frozen peas and spinach, old tomatoes, etc.). It had a smell about it when it was put down on the table. We were underwhelmed. It didn't even seem like it was seasoned at all. So terribly bland. We bypassed desert just to get the check, pay and get out of there. The pros of this place are the deck and incredible view. We watched the moon rise, which was stunning. Service was great so I can't agree with some of the other reviews. Our server told us that management was looking to get locals back in there to reinvigorate the place but I can tell you one thing, if the food and bartenders stays that crappy, the locals won't be returning. read more

If you are an oyster fan like me then order them here. They are accompanied with an amazing "hog wash" dip - a perfect blend of rice vinegar, shallots, jalapenos, and cilantro. It is the best dipping sauce I have ever had. The cocktails are also really excellent at this establishment and the view and outdoor seating is killer. If I can give negative stars, I would right of the back. We waited for a host to come to our table for 15 minutes. Then, when our waitress finally showed up, the look on her face was, "I hate life, I don't want to serve or take orders anymore." We received our water after 10 minutes of being asked what we want to drink. Then, once we finally gave our order, we waited, and after 35 minutes, we asked for bread as our food was still not ready. finally, after a short 45 minutes of waiting, we received our food. My salmon was allegedly seared, but it looked burnt. My better half food looked so plain, throw up looked tastier. My salmon was the length of two index fingers, and I'm being generous here. The steamed or sautedaded veggies were ok, but not like, omg, I want more. The salmon, after removing the burnt part, had absolutely no flavor. It was horrendous, hideous at best. We told the server, and allegedly, it was brought the owner or managers attention. I did not eat the salmon, nor did my better half eat her food at all. It was the worst meal ever in my entire life. That's what 86 dollars gets you in this area. Food that just wants to make you throw up. I fact I ended up throwing up the food late at night as that was my last meal. They still charged us after we complained, and 80 percent of the food was not touched or eaten. I would rather go to a dumpster to eat food than go eat from this place again. Go else where. The food, the service, was beyond atrocious. The atmosphere is great, I will say that, sitting outside and right next to the ocean, Yes, please. My first experience at the Trident was horrible. After writing a bad review on Yelp, the manager Doc contacted me to discuss my experience. He really wanted my fiancé and I to give them another chance. Doc gave me a very generous guest certificate to go back. Well, we did go back with another couple and gave them another chance and I have to say, the service was top notch and the food was amazing. Our second experience was incredible. I would now recommend The Trident to my best of friends and family. We will definitely be going back again. Kudos to Doc and The Trident!!! Thank you for great second experience. P.S. Horrible service - Slow and lacking. Very average unseasoned burger and fries Pricey for what you get in quality Calamari was a miss. Too bland and greasy Burger was about $20 since we added a slice of cheese and two pcs of bacon. Clam chowder was $4 for a tiny cup $50 for our lunch that wasn't satisfying really bugs me. Valet was $6 per hour But one star goes to the view and another for free sourdough bread. Those are the only things that were nice about this place. read more

I had lunch with my family at Trident on Sunday July 25th. The ambience sitting by the water on their patio was beautiful and the service was excellent. Our server, Mathew (Matteo) was outstanding and this was probably the best service I have encountered at a restaurant, having been to many high end eating places. He was very attentive, polite and interactive throughout our meal. The reason for the 4 stars is that the food could have been better. However, the valet parking charges were shockingly high at $34. This seafood restaurant might not be the fanciest, their food is average or above, and their seating is more on the casual side. However the out of this world view gives it all the reason why it was a great experience. They have outdoor seating, but even from indoor dining you have a clear view of the bay (actually you are exactly on the bay), Sausalito downtown, bay bridge, the hills and and. Simply breathtaking. Great view, great service, and most of all great food! I had the calamari, the clam chowder, and the Cioppino. Calamri was above par because it was fresh, but as in cooking technique, very ordinary. Clam chowder was average tasting, it was clam chowder. The thing that turned this meal into the grand experience was the Seafood Cioppino. This dish is meant for 2 people to share, but if you didnt know, you are going to try your best to finish it yourself! The broth was clean, the seafood were plentiful and fresh. The execution, of this dish, was like a swimming symphony; where every ingredients in that bowl was accounted for by taste and visuals. What a great experience!!! The food was Fantastic, the view was the best on the bay, the weather was perfect and our service was outstanding. We started with Bellinis and Mimosas because we planned on a long lunch. After that we had the deviled eggs (so creamy - we should have doubled this order) and the calamari (that's one big bowl for a "starter"). Cioppino was ordered by Ann (this was a brunch to cheer her up after her knee surgery), Vanessa ordered the Eggs Sausalito (which is a great twist on the classic eggs Benedict) and I went for the lobster tail. They were beautiful to behold and even better on the taste-buds. I know we should have stopped there, but it was a special day so yes, we had the pecan brownie with caramel sauce and a scoop of ice cream on top. I typically don't leave negative reviews and try to find the silver lining in every establishment; however, the quality of management and the food coming out of the kitchen is nothing short of disastrous. The appetizer took 35 minutes to come. out (2 deviled eggs cut into 4 pieces). The food took almost an hour to come out. We ordered 2 different cuts of steak. They both were the same cut when they came out to our table. Portions of my friend's order were incorrect. The lump crab we ordered was discolored. Steaks were lukewarm. Potatoes were lukewarm. Asked to speak with the manager and he gave us nothing but excuses about the kitchen being backed up and a disgruntled attitude as though we should have known the kitchen was slow. Perhaps he should be warning people before they sit down. I told him we weren't going to eat nor pay for cold, ill prepared food. (We took just 3 bites each). He said he wouldn't call it a wash and that our sever could give us his "employee discount." So basically, we paid $140 for 2 glasses of wine each. We got up and left our full plates of food. It would be wise for the owner to re-evaluate this manager's temperament. Not a very good example for the employees and certainly not a problem solver. I'm still livid that I wasted my time and hard earned money at an establishment that presents itself as fine dining but it's a farce. The ONLY good thing about our visit was the lanai view of the Bay and our sever who was caught in the middle. (We still tipped him 20%). Save your hard earned money and go elsewhere. read more

My family sat outside on the deck which has an incredible view of the Bay. Of course it was chilly, but there were heaters aplenty so we were comfortable. I had the Lobster Roll, which was pricey but the lobster was generous and the sandwich was very good. The salad that came with it was surprisingly only lettuce, so that was disappointing especially considering the price of the dish, but at least the dressing was good. My husband had the Dungeness Crab Cake since he wasn't very hungry, and he said the cakes, sauce and accompanying slaw were all great. We had a lovely experience for lunch here. We took the ferry over from SF, so we didn't have the Sausalito parking problem. I booked our table for 6 outside, but even with the heaters the group was cold, so we were graciously moved inside. (I would have braved the cold for the view, but was outvoted.) We had wine and beer, so no opinion on the mixed drinks. My beer sampler of local beers was wonderful. Once a few members of my group smelled the truffle fries (I didn't recognize the scent, silly me), there was no holding them back. In fact, there was a second order placed. :-) I had the fish tacos, which were excellent, and the crab cake appetizer was the most popular dish at the table. We started our lunch with a couple cocktails and our bar tender "Ben" took very good care of us. He's got personality plus & mixes a great drink. We ordered oysters on the half shell at the bar "OMGoodness the Best Ever" I would describe these oysters as being so fresh they were almost buttery, and the sauce is scrumptious! We were forgotten despite there being virtually no customers around, were spoken down upon, had lipstick stains on our bread basket napkin, and had to virtually beg to be helped.
