The Union Kitchen is a low key, family oriented, local Memorial dive. The atmosphere is friendly and casual with a cool vibe. Our food was good. I ordered the trout and didn't leave any crumbs. My friend had the Union Burger and it was fantastic. Our waiter mentioned that the Union Kitchen is known for their burger and I can see why. It was delicious! I dined here February 13th 2018. This place is very classy and has ambience for intimate dates. I had an awesome experience. Like to hear it here it go. My server Justin was very attentive and paced himself very nicely between tables. Two out of three recommendations he made were superb. The cucumber martini is like drinking a spiked cucumber that is freshly juiced. Yum! My appetizer was the fried asparagus with a real lumps of crab meat topping, D-lish. The bread comes freshly charred from the grill and soft center. So of course I ordered an entree. I was crossed between the macadamia chicken or short ribs. My server recommended short rib with Brussels sprouts and squash purée. The way entree is plated in a semi-bowl with the Brussels sprouts and purée at the bottom with one short rib in the middle of the plate covered with brown gravy. I was not able to separate the veggies from the brown gravy. When Justin came to Check on me, I told him if I had known everything would be covered with gravy I would have requested to hold the gravy. Well, the manager Chris stopped by my table and expressed his sincere apologies and offered me a small plate and desert for the entree. It was a awesome gesture. I took it in exchange to be able to pay for my food. I choose the crab stuffed avocado and cheese cake. The stuffed avocado were stuffed with real crab meat, deep fried with a chipotle sauce, tortilla chips and pico de Gallo. They also have happy hour and brunch so I am planning to go back to try both. read more

Went with some friends and family for a dinner on the patio on Saturday. Enjoyed the atmosphere- especially the live music. Service was slow, but food was decent. Cocktails were tasty, however! Appetizers came out quickly and were pretty good- nothing to write home about. Filet mignon ordered was over cooked. Food seemed hit or miss. When our party was ready to leave, it took quite a while to get our waitress to process the payment. The Union Kitchen is probably one of my favorite places to have brunch on a sunday. If you are wanting to dress more casual, I would eat outside. Sometimes it seems too fancy inside. Also, they will probably ask if you have a reservation to sit outside, but then just give you a seat. My favorite meal there is the country eggs benedict, but you can't go wrong with any of their meals. Nothing I have tasted is bad. The service will be a little slow on sunday around noon because that is when the main rush of people come in. I recommend getting there around 10:30 or 11. read more

I'm five months pregnant and my husband and I hardly ever go out to eat, so last Friday, we decided it would be fun to go somewhere nice-ish. We looked over a few menus and decided Union Kitchen looked great. I called ahead and asked if we needed reservations. The guy on the phone said, "Are you coming in soon? Like the next half hour or so? Because we're pretty empty and you won't need to make a reservation." You might be able to see where this is going... Twenty minutes later we arrived at Union Kitchen. I waddled through the full parking lot to be greeted by two girls at the hostess stand. They told us that all of the inside tables were by reservation only (more than 5 were empty when we arrived) and that we could either sit at the bar or sit outside. I was irked, I admit. If they had so many tables reserved, they should have told me over the phone that I needed a reservation. My husband said, "We just called a few minutes ago and they told us we didn't need a reservation." The hostess just looked down at the menu and then looked away, wistfully, offering no solution. We laughed it off and said we'd be seated outside. She walked us outside where a moderately loud and fairly inoffensive guitar player was crooning. We were seated at the furthest end of the patio at an awkwardly large table for two, with my husband's back facing the musician. My husband was the only person on the patio facing away from the crooner. She slapped down our menus and walked off without saying anything. Suddenly, I realized that she had seated us closest to the freshly-fertilized landscaping, and the smell was revolting. Not wanting to ruin the night with bitching, I tried to peruse the menu and hope the smell would normalize, but it did not. The thought of eating crabcakes with a snoot-full of manure smell made me want to retch. A few minutes later, the same hostess came back with a couple who were obviously more ostentatiously wealthy than we were, and she sat them at a table that was appropriately sized, where they could sit next to each other and both face the musician. I was irritated, and also realizing that in the several minutes we had been seated, no one had come over to wait on us, take a drink order, or bring us water. We quietly stood up and left, and as we went through the front door, the hostess looked away, apparently glad at our parting. We ended up going to LaGriglia, where the service was impeccable and the food was top-notch. read more

Disappointed with dinner tonight. Found Union Kitchen a few weeks ago with my mother and loved our lunch (stuffed smoked pork chops). Came back to visit her and returned for dinner. We ordered from the Restaurant Week menu. We had the Surf & Turf with 14 ounce ribeye, requested rare to medium rare. When brought to our table, I was surprised at the thickness-thin like prime rib. it was over cooked and greasy. Spoke with manager who agreed it was overcooked and confirmed it was topped with steak butter. Sent it back to correct (without steak butter). I also don't think it's truly "grilled "? The manager returned with another steak. We ate a few bites then decided it wasn't worth it. A couple sitting at a table near us stopped by our table on their way out to let us know they also did not like the ribeye. (Apoearantly they overheard us talking to our waitress). BUT...I will say the appetizer and dessert was wonderful! read more

Nice place and easy o get in and out of for lunch. Our server was Ian and he was very knowledgeable about the menu helping my husband choose the ribeye special. I got the lunch trio which comes with a soup, salad and 1/2 sandwich. Everything was great minus the sandwich I wasn't super impressed with. It was a BLT but only had one very thin slice of bacon. Great food, everyone loved their dishes. We went on a Sunday for dinner. I had the pork loin. It was great, not overcooked. It came on top of a well balanced bed of spaghetti squash and sweet potato. The appetizers were good also. Had stuffed mushrooms and fried shrimp. The server was stretched to the limit, our table did not get much attention and my drink was never refilled. Fast forward to today when my wife and I were literally the only 2 in the dining room. Our waiter spent 10 minutes 4 feet from us talking to his friend. We had brunch here today. The food was decent (when they got it right) but the service was extremely deficient. The waitress must be new. She got the orders wrong (my husband's was totally wrong and my omelette didn't have dill as described) and we waited for some time for a correction while the things that were correct got cold. We asked for catsup and tabasco and the waitress disappeared for some time to return with only catsup. The waitress seemed confused most of the time. The place is crowded so they must have gotten some orders correct. But, not sure I will return. read more

I visited this place on Friday night the food was not good I feel I was served slop on a plate with a side of hair. I ordered the Cajun seafood pasta it looked disgusting plus there was a black hair mixed in the pasta, fortunately I saw it before I attempted to eat. My friend ordered the shrimp and grits, soon after we left the restaurant she was sick. I am not sure what is going on in the kitchen but I will never return. read more

The highlight of this kitchen is the food, not the industrial feel of the place. The 4 stars is because the ambiance is a bit more factory presentation than I personally prefer, but the food rates a 5 star. The menu has many healthy items, is creative without being outlandishly self-conscious, and is the right price for this good food. You get what you pay for here. I had the grilled salmon salad with grilled asparagus, both features perfectly cooked and seasoned, with fresh greens and mild tarragon dressing. I also had a bleu cheese dressing on the side to sample, but it was unremarkable and on the thin side. It will be hard to explore the rest of this enticing menu when this one dish is so delicious. If I were on Death Row asking for one last meal, the grilled salmon with asparagus would be a good one to have! read more

Ordered the Portobello Chicken and the Parmesan Chicken. Both tasted sour as if the chicken was going rotten. Both dishes came out within in minutes, but were not hot. Ice Tea is horrible tasting. The side salad was watery and boring and had no dressing, had to flag down to ask for some dressing and then only got a tiny amount to share between us. The lamb chops were cut so thin I couldn't believe it (maybe 2 oz of meat), nestled in a big blob of white starchy cold couscous with 5 raw green beans. The salmon was a child size portion, also on a cold blob of couscous with 5 raw green beans. We had an excellent dinner with attentive service and pleasant atmosphere. The fried crab and avocado was a treat. My wife ate all of her pecan crusted rainbow trout while I enjoyed a perfectly cooked filet mignon. We finished off the evening with creme brulet although the bananas foster crepe looked like the one to try next time. The wine list is adequate without being overpriced like we see all too often now. We have eaten here several times and like the food, service, and menu choices, but thought the portions were a bit small. We went last night and the new menu options are EVEN BETTER! Everything was delicious and the portions seemed really big. We were very satisfied. I only wish there were more appetizer/small plate options that don't include seafood. My dad and I came in for Saturday brunch. Meh. We both got omelets that were just okay, with some good potatoes on the side (ketchup came out too late, though). To close, we got a stack of pancakes that really messed up the course of the meal - they were definitely cooked using oil that was already used to cook other (savory, no less) dishes. Also, they weren't presented nicely at all, and the toppings were scarce. The waitstaff was seriously trying, offering us water and checking on us way too often...sorry y'all, won't make up for sad pancakes.
