Worst noodles I've had in my life. Not only was there zero chicken and hardly any veggies, but the noodles tasted off. They ended up in the trash. Based on reviews was hoping this would be a serviceable Chinese place. But all three of our dishes were not good. The only thing that was cooked OK was the rice. Both my husband and my son were unimpressed. I do not like to give bad reviews as I want to support business. I'm traveling from out of town and came across this restaurant. They have some of the best boba smoothies I've ever tasted. The people and service is excellent. The restaurant is very clean. But the food is not that good. I ordered 97)Shrimp Lo Mein it was terrible. It had no flavor. The shrimps had a weird after taste to it. Stumbled upon this place coming back from snowboarding at Mt. High. Was craving some Chinese food and there were not many options along the way back. Went in and was greeted by a server who seated us and gave us menus. As this was my first time here I had no idea what to order and the server noticed this and asked if we had any questions or if we wanted any suggestions. Ordered a few items that looked interesting and took his advice on one of the suggestions. I was not disappointed, The Eggplant in Spicy Garlic Sauce was like nothing I have ever had. It was eggplant fried with a spicy garlic sauce. That alone plus the attentiveness of the server was enough for a 5 stars but wait... there's more. Also had the Beef Noodle Soup, Pork Rib Rice and Wonton with Red Chili Sauce. All delicious in their own right. If it wasn't so far from where I live I would frequent the place A LOT more often. read more

We split sweet and sour pork and pan fried noodles between us. Huge portions, great food! Both dishes looked so fresh. The sweet and sour pork was very good with bell peppers, onions and pineapple and the sauce was perfect, not thick and gooey like a lot of places. Perfect over rice. The chef's special pan fried noodles were wonderful. I love pan fried noodles and The Upper House has the best pan fried noodles ever! Very nice servers, cute clean interior. They also offer a huge variety of desserts and drinks (coffees, teas, boba, etc.) and are open until 11pm so this would be a nice place to hang out just for that. I am really excited a Chinese place (beyond Panda Express and takeout) opened in Claremont! The interior is really cute too, and the menu offers a wide range of selection. There's even desserts and boba too. There are some decent lunch specials, with rice, soup, and an entree for I think 7.95. 3 stars - in terms of authenticity to real Chinese food but would give an overall 4-4.5 stars if rating for environment, selection, location, and if I would go back a lot (yes) I went with my parents a few weeks ago, and we ordered honey walnut shrimp, fried rice, Singapore vermicelli noodles, and sweet and sour pork. The Singapore noodles were pretty good and the sweet and sour pork was pretty good too. The honey walnut shrimp was not like the honey walnut shrimp at authentic Chinese restaurants though, it was literally fried and different (prefer the normal way if paying $$ for it). The fried rice was meh...it lacked the 'wok hay or qi' and flavor. We also got this red bean mochi soup for dessert. The food definitely is more to the side of catering to the non-Chinese demographic, but it's still pretty good, more authentic than Panda Express, the menu is impressive, and the interior is cute. I would definitely go back many times to get the lunch specials and try their drinks! I also want to try the spicy wontons that claim to be almost as good as DTF in previous reviews I saw. Overall, a cute place that offers Chinese food and a variety of drinks and dessert in an area that does not have this kind of cuisine. I am excited! It will save you a trip to 626 if you're in Claremont and really craving Chinese food and don't want to make that drive. read more

Why, yes, Margaret, I will do this again! No seriously, this place is fantastic. Clean, simple atmosphere with excellent sit-down quality food. Not over-seasoned so you can adjust to your own tastes at the table. The chicken curry and mapo tofu with meat both have that clear-your-head slow burn ideal for the cool spring nights. Their milk/tea drinks are adjustable (I usually do half sweet or less) and the prices very reasonable for the quality. Highly recommended for good Chinese-American food in the IE. read more

Excited about some Taiwanese food in the area. Made it a play date. We get in and it's not too crowded. They happily put together tables for our group of 6 and two high chairs. We ordered the sausage rice which I knew we could split between myself and two toddlers. They also split a large mango slush with boba although I shouldn't have ordered boba for my little one. His boba kept getting stuck and he didn't know how to suck it up like his older brother. My mom friend also ordered drinks for her girls and even a thai tea and a mango slush boba to go. I ordered a honey black tea without boba but they still gave it to me. Oh well. The food was good but my boys were not eating much due to the drink. My food actually took longer than my friend and rushed it right away when they noticed. They even threw in a free soup for me. They do have a lunch special but half the items were spicy or were hard for my boys to chew. I did notice it got really busy at one point. I was there by 11:30 but there were only two people helping. At one point, only one person was doing everything. One guy sat at a table for a while before anyone helped him and I wasn't sure if you had to pay at the front but you do. When the other lady came back from her errand, the other person was finally being helped. I don't think he ever ordered since he was gone when I left and he was sitting for a while and not waiting at the front. I would go back but hopefully service would be better especially for people waiting around. You have to have at least two people at all times especially during lunch and dinner. read more

Nice Chinese restaurant on the outskirts of Claremont village. This place was recommended to me by a friend so we decided to eat here on a whim. The place brightly lit and wasn't busy so it was a peaceful ambiance for dining. We ordered noodles and fish. Both flavorful and good for the price and quality. Tried the wonton soup because I saw a lot of good reviews on it. I know everyones opinion may differ but in my opinion the soup lacks flavor ( the broth to be specific). Yes the veggies and good, fresh and not too smooshy ( over cooked) but the soup is bland. If anyone is ever in the downey area ( some people may know it because portos is there) check out Hong Kong chef ( yelp it) it's a small little place but that wonton soup is to be honest the best I've had.! read more

I visited the Upper House on 08/31/18 to celebrate my mother in laws birthday. It's my husbands and I first time trying this Chinese restaurant they opened last year 2017. The service here was great, our server was always very attentive and coming by the table. We ordered the sweet and sour chicken entré and it came with rice on the side and it was about $11 with tax , then we ordered the shrimp friend rice, the combination noodle soup ( beef, chicken, shrimp) and the shrimp noodle soup which was $9.95. The soup bowls that we got were huge ! You can definitely share that with 2-3 people and also the entrees were shareable for 2 people each plate so at the end we spent 42$ which was not bad and the food was really good ! To be fair, the food doesn't taste bad, but it's far from authentic Taiwanese food. If you are looking for convenient meal with decent service, this is the place to go; if you are Taiwanese and looking for a place to satisfy nostalgia, it would be a disappointment. Got braised pork over rice, one of the most signature Taiwanese dish and the pork belly was pretty low quality and was not marinated well, marinated egg didn't have enough taste, and it has corn on the top (as someone who grew up in Taiwan, I've never seen corn as part of braised pork over rice. Pot sticker is very clearly store bought, factory made frozen dumplings and my least favorite dish. Wonton in red chili oil was decent, I wish the sauce has more taste but wonton itself is not bad. read more
