Food was fair to middlin'. My cocktail was fine, quite good though slightly overpriced; but the mushroom bolognese tasted nothing of mushrooms and less of meat---but strangely of sundries tomatoes. Had a lovely mid-week dinner here. I like dining out to be a treat when possible, not just a convenience or excuse not to cook. I can definitely say The Vault was a treat! I got the total package: food, ambiance and service-a perfect balance. The restaurant is housed in an old bank building on a downtown corner. Vintage is my jam, so I loved the exposed brick and oversize Edison-type lighting. I started with a glass of Moscato (delicious) and studied the menu as I took in views of historical buildings and the foot traffic outside the row of big windows all along the side street. As an appetizer we ordered grilled olives, something we've never had before. But, following the advice of PBS food critic, Daniel Tiger, "Try a new food, it might taste good," we did and he was right! Gotta say, they were tasty! Next up was a yummy sounding cocktail that would have been forbidden for young Daniel Tiger: Tony's Pesos. It was a blend of pineapple juice, mango syrup, tequila and grapefruit soda and was as good as imagined-slightly sweet with that tequila bite. And, although the menu offered a lot of sophisticated dishes, including lamb chops, steaks and seafood, any of which I wouldn't hesitate to order on a future visit, it was a burgers for both of us on this night. But, keep in mind the Vault's burgers are made of Wagyu beef (Japanese beef known for taste and tenderness) so they are pretty sophisticated too! And pretty darned good! We never went without full glasses of water or had empty plates languish on the table. I've tried to like this place. I live here in Wyandotte and just can't get past the exorbitant pricing (for what you get), and the service in the restaurant has been below average. The bar service is extraordinary, and sometimes we grab something at the bar. They have a bar burger that is great either these amazing potato crisps, and there is a mid-week special for it. The drinks are great and the bartenders are super educated with their offerings and have recommended some great ones to try. Especially love the Brown Butter Old Fashioned. Crazy good!!! So, dining room....no, bar, yes, especially in the summer when they open the doors up to the front sidewalk. read more

Such a letdown from beginning to end. Super expensive, our bill was $300 for two people. It took almost 2 hours for our food to be brought out. My husband and I both ordered our steak medium. His turned out medium well and mine was rare. The lobster tail was very fishy, and the asparagus side dish was only 3 spears of asparagus. The only good part of the meal was the truffle fries. Most of the party has finished their meal and 6 of us are still waiting on a medium rare filet. Really need a bus boy to clear dishes. For a supposedly high end restaurant they really dropped the ball! Dishes never cleared. My daughter never received any silverware so we shared. The halibut Sitka was delicious. The service from Megan was excellent, and non-rushed. Our $36 bottle of wine was the "house red" and was delicious, so we didn't have to spend a fortune on drinks. The salmon corn chowder was amazing. Polenta fries are interesting. Risotto balls (Arancini) were just ok, not a ton of flavor and the balsamic with tomatoes didn't seem to do it for me in accompaniment. The saganaki was served with standard slices of loaf bread and was as expected. Five stars for the service, ambiance, and halibut. Four stars for the rest. My husband and I went for dinner at The Vault last night. I had made reservations for 5:30. We were celebrating our anniversary. When we arrived, we were seated right away in a booth. They had put a cute sign on the table saying happy anniversary. Small gesture, but made us smile. Some came and brought us water and said our waitress would be over soon. It did seem to take a bit for her to come over as we had already decided on what we were ordering. I ordered the the vault 75 which had vodka, raspberry and rose. It was good. Not really sweet though. Hubby just had a diet. We started with the saganaki. That came out pretty fast and was a good size except for the bread they give you for Dipping. There were 4 pieces. It really could use about 4 more pieces. Later on before our dinners arrived they brought a bread basket, that would of been super helpful for dipping if it had arrived earlier, though it was a yummy. The waitress came back and we ordered dinner. I ordered the 14oz Tomahawk porkchop with mashed potatoes and asparagus. Hubby ordered the chicken and risotto. We also ordered sidewinder fries and the garlic polenta fries. I had Ceasar salad and Hubby had house salad. The salads came our pretty fast and were good. Then there was a pretty long wait for the main dishes. Our waitress said it was because they had a big party in the back. The food did finally come put and was hot.and tasty. I give the porkchop a 9 out of 10. It was cooked to the perfect temp, the sauce they had on it was delicious. The mashed potatoes were ok, not the best I've ever had and the asparagus could of cooked a bit more but overall good. Hubby lived his dish too. Gave it a 9 out of 10 too. Same thing with his asparagus. Needed cooked a bit more. The sidewinder fries were amazing and a 10 out of 10. The garlic polenta frie were ok. I wanted to love them more then I did. 7 out of 10. We skipped dessert. Our bill was around $115. We had a gift card and it was pretty easy to use. We read the great reviews and have been wanting to try this restaurant. The reviews didn't do this place justice. Our dining experience was beyond our expectations. We were lacking nothing. The service was spectacular. My brother wanted to try a non-alcoholic cocktail a friend had told him about. We didn't see it on the menu. Our waitress advised us that the particular drink was seasonal, but she would ask the bartender to make the cocktail special for us. Every appetizer, drink, and dinner entree was fantastic. We all had different seafood entrees; and our dinners surpassed anything we've had in fine restaurants in Florida. My brother was apprehensive about trying his seafood dish, as he is very picky. Our waitress assured him if he didn't like it, she would bring him something else; no problem. Of course he loved it. The owner, Chris, came over to the table to introduce himself, and check on our dinner. He had a genuine regard for our satisfaction. Great ambiance and wonderful service. We had a late reservation and the hostess was kind enough to take our number and call us if a table opened up a little earlier. If you like red meat, seafood, and are looking for a fancier place to have a good meal, then this is the place for you! I ended up going for the petite filet while my friend got the bourbon glazed salmon. Both were cooked perfectly and practically melted in your mouth. As for the appetizers, the beet salad was light and refreshing, but the pork belly wasn't particularly special. Overall, delicious meal! I will definitely go back for special occasions. read more

My husband and I really enjoyed our dinner here. The service is top-notch. There were plenty of servers and staff coming to refill drinks, clear plates, etc. The kitchen was also very efficient and all of our courses came out with just a short wait. They even asked my husband if he wanted his pasta remade since it was delivered to the table while he was still on his salad course. Food was very good, wine selection was also good. Very happy to have a new, upscale dining option downriver. Had a reservation on a Saturday evening. Was busy on arrival so sat at the bar til our table was ready. Great atmosphere at the bar. Warm, inviting. Perfectly crafted cocktails, superb service. Enjoyed a fabulous calamari app while waiting. Just outstanding. We were seated at a booth in the dining room. Less inviting ambiance. Would prefer a candle or a fresh flower on the table. Or even a tablecloth. Yet with a name such as the Vault, it is a cooler vibe. Bread service was delicious and warm. Poached pear salad was super good. Had the dover sole with Jennie potatoes and the halibut with polenta fries. The Dover sole with lemon capers was the star, significantly better and prepared perfectly. The vegetables were excellent as well. For dessert, had had the carrot cake. It was dry, not fresh. Disappointing. No cappuccino or expresso offered here either. Overall will most definitely return to the bar for another experience. Overall, an amazing experience! When we were unsure what wine we wanted, our waitress asked what our taste in wine was and came back with an excellent recommendation from the bartender. We tried the two appetizers (the beets and pork belly), and both were absolutely amazing. The entree for me was the salmon with a side of grilled asparagus and something called Jennie potatoes? I never heard of Jennie potatoes before but that was excellent, along with the asparagus, which balanced the salmon. The salmon was full of flavor and couldn't have been grilled any better. Just celebrated my girlfriend's birthday there last night. What a wonderful evening! The Gold Medal cocktail was delicious. I had the NY strip and my girlfriend had the small filet. Best steak I've ever had! Perfectly prepared and just so flavorful! We shared a bottle of wine which was very reasonably priced. Our waiter: Chris, was outstanding! Very knowledgeable about the menus and was extremely friendly and attentive without making us feel overwhelmed. We also appreciated a manager and the owner coming over to say hi and check on us. Some what disappointed. Place is clean, service was great and food was exceptional except for twin lobster tails. Tails were tough, almost too hard to cut, chewy. The manager came by & we informed him of everything. He didn't seem to care & told us that no body ever complained. Guess I'm just lucky except I still paid $120.00 just for lobster tails. Excellent!! I love that Downriver is getting places like this starting to pop up. My wife and I went here on a Friday and had a hard time getting in a few weeks earlier. We found the decor really appealing and nice to be in. The place was packed (way to go businesses!!) and was comfortable. We ordered a bottle of wine that was really reasonably priced for coming from Napa CA. We also had regular bread as well as gluten free bread. (My wife needs gluten free) We both had the pear salad to start with and really liked it. The pears were crisp and flavorful and the dressing was not overpowering. It was just the right amount as well to start with. My wife's dinner was the chicken with the mashed potatoes and asparagus and she really loved it. Seemed like it was cooked to perfection and was very flavorful. She also got the au jus to go over the potatoes. I got the big tomahawk ribeye!! I normally would not do that but I saw all the reviews and it seemed like it was a good way to go. I would say, it was an amazing cut of meat. It was cooked perfectly and had awesome onions and mushrooms on it as well. I would say that 2 people should split that steak since it was over 20 ounces!!! (I got 2 workouts in before eating it :-)) I also got the potato wedges and vegetables. The whole meal was spectacular and the service was good as well. All in all, I will be back!!!! read more
