I typically only give 5 stars to fine dining establishments, or perfect quality and taste of food. However, everything about the Virginian is above and beyond. Every single staff member we encountered was extremely polite, nice, funny, and hospitable. I want to go back just to see these people. Our party of 5 loved everything we ordered, starting with the cinnamon roll the size of my head. We have never met a cinn roll we couldn't finish, until now. It was warm, soft, and oozing with icing. So good! I got the Virg scramble, sub cheese for feta, and added mushrooms. Oh my gosh, it was perfect. The little bits of bacon, and the soft scrambled egg, delish. I got a homemade biscuit, and this one is a MUST! You have to get a biscuit, literally one of the best I've had! So flaky soft! The hashbrowns are perfectly cooked, golden brown on the outside. I ate every bite of my plate. My son got the chocolate chip pancakes and they were heaven. The cakes are fluffy, light, but a little dense. So yummy! We also ordered French toast with berry syrup, which was excellent, and the biscuits and gravy, which again was another home run! It saddens me that I don't live near by, but I promise you I will come here every time I visit Jackson! read more

If you come, expect to wait at this popular breakfast spot. We've eaten at the Virginian numerous times on our yearly trek to Jackson, and we keep returning. Their breakfast is consistently solid. Oh my, today their large made-in-house, square, pillowy, warm biscuit was a delicious exchange for the toast that accompanied my entree. No up-charge for the exchange. Well worth the calories and served with soft butter, Smucker's jam and honey. Today I decided on a protein breakfast of their Classic Omelette of cheddar, jack and Swiss ($13.95) with an add on of ham (.80). This entree comes with a side of hash browns. The omelette was loaded with the ham and cheeses inside and out, and the omelette was perfectly cooked. Hash Browns were hot, but not grilled to crispy. Food service was a bit slow as I remember, so keep this in mind when planning your day. Coffee was hot, refills where quick, and employees were friendly. Really was hoping to give at least 4 stars but, unfortunately 3 it is. To start, the hostess could have seemed more miserable. No hello, no smile, just "how many?" and a nasty attitude. Rolling her eyes when an older lady was not loud enough saying her name just confirmed her disdain for her job. Minus a star. The next star came off for the food. My husband's omelette was cold. It would not have been that big of a deal, but when I heard the people behind me tell the waitress their food was cold, I mentioned it when she asked if everythibg was good. Maybe there was an issue the kitchen should know? Anyway, the response was, "yeah, I had a lot of orders to get out so a lot of the food had to sit back there for a while." The food was worth every minute of the wait. Clearly this place is popular and it's clear why. I ordered the homemade corned beef hash and eggs with a side pancake. I had more than enough food for 2.5 meals and every bite was yummy. The pancakes... I haven't had a good pancake like that in a LOOOONNNNG time! I highly recommend this place. Go early and be prepared to wait. It's not fancy because to doesn't need to be. The service is just right ... your is taken and maybe someone comes over to check in again but you are left to enjoy your delicious meal with little interference. From the moment we walked in to the moment we walked out it was the best service. We had a crappy dinner last night at the Million Dollar Cowboy and so we wanted a good local breakfast. Portions are good size! Menu is well priced. Our waitress was friendly and knowledgeable. The two guys were friendly and very attentive. We knew we scored a good spot when we were told a 15 min wait. These folks don't need our stamp of approval. The line of locals outside awaiting breakfast at 11AM on a weekday says it all. Usual breakfast fare done with excellence. Especially the pancakes (large, fluffy, tender with a nice crisp edge). The corned beef hash was homemade and perfectly seasoned. Two exceptions to "usual" and remaining excellent - 1) grits. Really good grits. Served with plenty of butter on the side. Bless them, bless them. And, 2) a cinnamon roll the size of a wagon wheel served with a large helping of frosting to self-administer according to your preference. Do they get it, or what!? Great local breakfast. Wow! What a great find in Jackson, Wyoming. We were staying at the The Virginian RV Resort with a large group and wanted to check this place out for breakfast. We decided to have breakfast first and we were both very impressed with our meals. Hubby had the NY strip and eggs with hash browns and toast, and I had the corned beef hash and eggs. Service was quick and we were well taken care of by our waitress; she was right there with coffee or anything that we needed. We never had to wonder when she was coming back. My husband and I both were very impressed with how our eggs had been perfectly cooked. His scrambled eggs were soft and billowy - maybe it's the altitude?? - and my sunny side up were better than those I cook for myself at home. My corned beef was definitely homemade; I could taste the subtle pickling spices, and the beef was extremely tender and served over a bed of potatoes and onions. My husband's steak was cooked medium rare as he had requested. It could have been a bit more tender but that is something you wouldn't until you cut into it. His hasbrowns crispy and hot. We had them prepare breakfast wraps for a group of forty with a mixture of scrambled egg and cheese, scrambled egg and diced ham, and scrambled egg and ground sausage with sour cream. I got the corned beef hash and it just had an immense amount of corned beef. Like it never ended! I ate half for breakfast and half for dinner the next night. Plus they said the corned beef was homemade and it tasted good. My wife got an omelette with bacon and a tomato and the same was true - huge portion and delicious. The Virginian is the best restaurant in town. The service is excellent and friendly, the food is awesome and the portions are large. We ate at the Virginian twice in 5 days it was so good. The corned beef hash is their premier breakfast and it was the best corned beef hash I have ever had. The cinnamon roll are the size of a full size plate, so bring someone to share it with, or take it to go and feed your entire household. It was our first time in Jackson and it was nice to find an affordable, family friendly place away from the expensive downtown area. I would highly recommend the Virginian. read more

Got two great recommendations for what to order, and I settled on the corned beef hash. Whoa!! Hands down the best I have ever had! The corned beef is made in house, and slow cooked. Ordered a cold meatloaf sandwich to go. Person taking my order said they had no idea what comes on the sandwich/how it's prepared because she never had anyone order it before. She made no effort to find out. It's on the menu! At least make an effort to find out! So I just ordered a basic sandwich of cold meatloaf, mustard, mayonnaise, lettuce, tomato on sliced sourdough bread. I received a sandwich with no mayonnaise, way too much mustard, and stale bread. The bread was so stale. It was crumbly. That bread should not have been used for anything but toast. A kitchen should never send out stale bread. Disappointed. read more

Perfect little unassuming country diner. It's the best way to start a ski day! I had breakfast here almost every day during a weeklong trip. The diner opens extremely early. Wait staff are incredibly personable, welcoming, and attentive, especially the sisters Andrea and Jeanie. The owner is also amicable and stops by individual tables. You can't beat the value here either! In a town of expensive food, the Virginian definitely was the most reasonably priced food all week. The D1 and D2 breakfast combos give you a little bit of everything. I highly recommend the French toast! The French toast is amazing, esp with the berry compote. No syrup needed. Corn beef hash: SO GOOD. Plenty of meat and not too much filler. Potatoes: nice and crispy. They're golden brown shavings. Chicken fried steak: loved how savory and flavorful it is. We came here about 9:30am for breakfast on a Monday. Walking up to the entrance, to the left, you can see the long covered inviting front porch with benches and tables. When you enter, the register is right in front of you and a small waiting area. It was about a third full and we were seated right away. Inside it feels very western country basic. It also felt like a locals place. We were greeted with a friendly smile. We were seated in a booth in the front of the dining area, were given menus and had our drink orders taken. The breakfast menu is a collection of basic home cooked selections, not very extensive but big enough to find something for most. My wife chose the Virg scramble (eggs mixed with tomatoes, onions, bacon, spinach and topped with melted cheddar and jack cheese) with potatoes and toast. I chose a half order of biscuits and gravy with potatoes and sausage. Our meals arrived quickly, looked and tasted really good. Overall a good experience at a very decent price. We wanted to eat a tasty lunch/breakfast, something that felt home cooked and yet tasted like it was cooked by a great chef using fresh ingredients. We found it all at the Virginian. The staff was super friendly, very accommodating, and sat us with a smile. We even met the owner, which sparked a timely and pleasant conversation. I enjoyed the deliciously plated fish and chips, accompanied by a tasty and creamy Cole slaw and fries. The coffee was excellent. The Virginian Omelet is also a winner! My son had the Virginian Salad with ranch, and the lettuce was crispy (not wilted), and the ingredients were also fresh. Mu other son had the Country fried steak with eggs over easy, and he ramped up the gravy sauce. Said it was flavourful and was perfected with the home freshly baked muffin, just mmmm tasty! Hands down favorite restaurant in Jackson hole! I stayed there for four days and went there twice even though there were a ridiculous amount of restaurants I could have gone to. There is always a wait for a table, but the wait time goes by quick- if you're in a rush and need to make a take out order, the host will accommodate you as well. It's a family owned restaurant and most of their recipes like the biscuit and pancakes are home made with a special recipe- the maple syrup is homemade and delicious as well. I got the corn beef hash both times I went which is to die for and my friend got the French toast with bacon on the side. Highly recommend this family owned business!! read more
