Stayed at the Westin Bayview recently and we decided to grab some food at the bar one afternoon. I had the Tuna Sandwhich it was fantastic! I was a little hesitant when it came out because it looked a little well done but to my surprise it was cooked well and loaded with flavor. I also loved the Dynamite sauce it had on it. We were staying at The Westin for my birthday. Becky had turned in for the night in the room. I ventured downstairs to get a few more coffee pods for the morning in the room. I ended up at The Westin Bar in the lobby! Bartender Paul and the couple from Louisiana, Bryan and Monique were great! I may have let it slip that it was my birthday, and the three of them helped me celebrate! Probably more than I needed to, after all I was just going for more coffee pods. LOL! There was birthday cake, there was (lots of) beer and they even sang "Happy Birthday" to me, it was a blast! An impromptu celebration after a day of celebrating. The Lobby bar at the Westin San Diego has HH weekdays 3-6 PM. A nice selection of bites and drinks are on the menu. It's nice to run into a HH in an upscale hotel. The ambiance is business casual with a mix of small tables, bar and comfy chair seating. the Lettuce Wraps feature a nicely seasoned Sashimi grade Tuna Tartre and has a side of a mildly spicey Kimchi. The Old Fashioned is with the well Bourbon, Jim Beam, which was still tasty. One note, it is a bit chilly in the bar so shorts ate probably not what you want to be sporting. read more

Stayed at this hotel for a weekend when I had work at the SD Convention center. Didn't have a chance to experience a lot of the amenities like the cafe or gym or pool but everyone we interacted with was very nice and courteous. The overnight parking across the street on C street is perfect. $15-$25 a night and it's actually 24 hour (beware of the lots across Broadway that say they are 24 hour but actually are not). Not sure if/when I would need to stay down there again but I am a loyal Westin/Marriott traveler so I would recommend this hotel. read more

Located in the open and airy lobby of Westin attached to Horton Plaza. Offers both food and drinks. Professional bartenders provide excellent service and offer knowledge of spirits. Lots of open space to hang out, relax over drinks and chat. Quiet enough to have a conversation without struggle. read more

I was in San Diego from my friend's wedding I stayed at the Marriott on K street I left there at 10 AM one to the airport or they cancel every flight that I bought I paid for 3 flights I was trying to I know where to go now it's 220 Ami am and I'm walking around San Diego and stumble into the Western I'm begging for help And no one would help me and then here comes Nate to the rescue allow me to sit in the lobby until my 4 AM Train came I am so grateful I have never been in this situation Maybe in a platinum member I felt I shouldn't have to beg for simple things thanks but Nate made it so so smooth My next day and San Diego will be here at the Western only because of Nate.. This review is for the bar only. If Yelp had an option for negative reviews or 0 stars, that would be my option because the bar do not deserve any stars. Friend and I went in during lunch time to get a quick drink to start our day as we were on vacation and celebrating her 30th bday. Walked up to the bar, no greeting from the bartender even though he saw us. Walked around to his area to make it easier for him as he was observed to be busy (washing a few items). Still no greeting from the bartender. Friend asked bartender what time the bar opened, he looked at us saying we're open but we close whenever the business slows down so it just depends. Wasn't too sure how to take his response as it was slow so we couldn't tell if he was opening for the day or closing for the day. So we started to take off as we were a little confused. However, bartender grabbed our attention and argued with us before we were going to take off stating "we're open". He argued with my friend that she didn't ask him if he was open to serve, instead argued to correct her with what her question was. It felt uncomfortable, unprofessional, and very rude. Therefore, we didn't stay as he wasn't welcoming nor friendly. We took our business elsewhere. We understand that he was busy but that was one of the worse customer service ever. He didn't stop to acknowledge us nor offered to help us. We had to grab his attention as if the roles were reversed.i do not recommend this bar to anyone. What many people don't realize is that the Westin downtown has an excellent bar and happy hour. I work in the building and way too many afternoons after work I stop by for a drink and a Nacho Stack. Currently their happy hour is M-F 4-7 P.M All drinks 5 dollars and selected food items. I personally would recommend the Nachos well worth the calories if you ask me. But what sets the bar at the Westin apart is their excellent bar tender Mellisa, she is quick courteous fun to talk to and always remembers your name, and she never pours light even during happy hour. The bar at the westin one of San Diego's best kept secrets. I live downtown and for overall feel I find myself always going back. I took off one star just because they don't have enough seating but I've always managed to find a spot none the less. I've never had a bad experience there and that in itself is remarkable. I only came here for happy hour; it would be 2-star given the prices otherwise. The quesadillas are huge and scrumptious, and the jar of salty snacks you get with every food or drink order made my day. Hey, what can I say, I love snacking. The drinks are pretty reasonable, though the happy hour prices are close to what I'd consider full price anywhere else. Regular price is just ouch. They're made well, not too heavy or too light, which I like, and the bartender made a pretty killer bloody mary. Generally I hate hotel Bars because I think I can get a better drink by leaving my hotel. But my girlfriend and I were waiting for a friend, and decided to have a drink. Well 1 led to 3 or so. Granted the prices at this place are quite high, but the bartender was great, and their signature drinks were very well made. They also have delicious nuts and wasabi peas. if I could do less than 1 star I would. Staying at the Westin to attend a concert. At check in we were told about their happy hour so w cam down to the bar. Sat down and it was pretty empty, a large group came shortly after us. Server Paula came to take our order.... then she went back to the bar and proceeded to serve the large group while ignoring the fact that she took our order at least 10 prior to serving that party. Our order of 3 tap beers would have taken her 5 minutes so that she could then concentrate on the large party. While sitting here waiting I saw another server (which I found out later is the bar mgr) server 3 other patrons, my BF approached the bar to find out where our drinks were. FINALLY the bar mgr brought our order & apologized. While he did comp our first round, subsequently this same server was just as bad in coming back to check on us or even see if we wanted another round. When she finally came by, I am the only one who received another drink as she was already walking away as I told here I wanted another. She failed to see if anyone else in my party needed another drink. The bill was brought and a rndom drink was on our bill that was not ordered by anyone! When she was told of the error, she proceeded to say that it was ordered. Mind you we ordered 3 Stellas to begin with and my BF added a Pizza Port which was comped by the mgr. She again tried to back pedal and say we ordered it. She was reminded that our first round of 4 drinks was comped she then proceeded to go back to her mgr to verify. It took yet another 10 min for her to correct our bill and return it to us. I would defininately suggest additional customer service/waitress training for this gal. Oh and did I mention that she also put their alcoholic drinks in TO GO CUPS which this group then proceeded to take outside of the bar??? Really???? read more

Took 10 minutes for them to get our order, and another 15+ minutes to bring it. Their cocktails are delicious, but the wait just made the experience sour. Especially since we were at this bar to have a quick drink before heading off to a reserved dinner. There was one woman doing most of the work, then another gentleman joined her. It's a hotel bar that is typically overpriced. Walk outside, down a block and find a real bar. But if you're lazy, or using a company expense account, go ahead and go here. I had two meals at the bar. My experience both times was way better than expected. My first meal there was a late lunch. I ordered a glass of wine and a burger. I received an "upgraded" glass of wine at the house price and the burger was excellent. The service was excellent too. Perfect! My second meal there was after a few cocktails on the following evening. Again, the service was excellent and the food was too. (I had the salmon. It was cooked to order and very tasty.) I made the mistake of stopping here for a drink today. First of all, no beers on tap. Period. Okay, I'm flexible, so I asked for a Bloody Mary. In the middle of preparing my drink, the bartender - a pleasant but detached young woman - exchanged cash and change with other customers. Without cleaning her hands, she continued making my drink and grabbing garnish/olives with her bare hands. Offputting. I also noted that she poured barely one shot in the tall 16 oz glass. Next demerit came when I saw the mix - the cheap Mr T mix you get at safeway for $1.99. Before taking a sip, I paid the bill which was about $10 for the drink. I would note the bloody mary was really ghetto with no celery or other garnish you would expect. She also poured a huge amount of olive juice into it. Yuck.. I didn't order a dry martini! Now the worst part.. this was the saltiest, most undrinkable bloody mary I've ever had in my life. I had to force down a couple of sips to clear room for her to add water to it. Yes, I had to add water cause the cheap bloody mary mix made it saltier than the Gulf of Mexico. Rather than offer to fix me another drink, the bartender simply poured the water into the drink and shoved it back to me. So if you want to completely overpay for a weak, undrinkable cocktail while being treated to totally underwhelming service, come here.. otherwise, I suggest you hoof or cab it a few blocks to 4th or 5th ave to one of the fine bars in gaslamp. read more

Wow I was really impressed by this bar. It looks like your typical hotel bar and I expected it to be a pretty typical hotel bar experience. It surpassed my expectations by a long shot. We sat down to have a drink and kill some time while we waited for a friend to show up. They bring out these wasabi peas and this pretzel mix that is quite yummy. I felt like a cocktail and the Grapevine looked good, Melissa, the bartender confirmed it was and went about making me one. She was super sweet and attentive the whole time we were there. She brought over my Grapevine along with my boyfriend's beer. The Grapevine was DELICOUS! Probably one of the best specialty cocktails I have had in a long time, and it had fresh grapes on top along with muddled grapes to add extra flavor. The grapes they used were tasty and fresh. I mentioned this to Melissa before ordering my second Grapevine, so this time she added in extra grapes. When she saw me messing around with my boyfriend for "stealing" one of the grapes from the top of the drink she brought us some over on the side. These little actions showed that not only was she paying attention but that she truly cared about her patrons.
