Was there July 3 2019, although the food was 5 stars(fresh and portioned perfectly) but the service was subpar. :( it was busy and we had a really young and novice waitress. She was rather ill mannered. ( ie: she came to the table and asked what we wanted and didnt greet us) I also didn't like that her shirt was dirty/stained and tryed to tell us her penmanship was bad so she may come back to redo the order. Surpirse I was not when my order came incorrect. BUT in light of that the savor of the day was the waitress with the pink bandana( sorry didnt get your name) she was amazing and covered her tables and fixed all of the younger ones mistakes. We had eaten here the last time we came Up North and the food and service were great, so we wanted to return again. We decided to go back again for breakfast yesterday, June 28th. We were seated promptly, but then sat there for at least 15 minutes before someone finally came to take our order. We then waited again for about 20 minutes for the food to arrive. The food was very good, then the waitress came to get our plates and AGAIN we waited another 15 minutes until I finally went up to our waitress, who was clearing another table, to ask if we could have our bill. She said she would be right there, but continued cleaning the other table and bringing out other orders. I went up to her again, and we STILL didn't get our bill. Finally I told her we would go wait out front by the checkout. She FINALLY came out so we could FINALLY pay our bill and offered no apologies whatsoever. I don't think we will be back !!!!! You would think that once the waitress comes to take your dirty plates, that they should realize that the customer is ready for their bill. read more

Excellent menu with reasonable pricing and unique food options in a relaxed atmosphere. The staff was excellent and incredibly accommodating. Our table ordered 2 different game sausages (Venison and Rabbit), Seafood Rangoon, Hush puppies, Hash browns, tater tots, Wild Game Benedict, Seafood Benedict and Raspberry Oatmeal pancakes and Hash browns . Everything arrived quickly and was cooked perfectly. Could not be more pleased with the service we received or the food quality. Found this unknown gem while out for Saturday night dinner. Ordered the Pot Roast. Excellent!

We had a great experience discovering this place as the only place open for breakfast in the north woods during our recent vacation. There was a Perkins down the street that was closed and options further south in Minocqua, but we peaked at the menu and decided to give it a shot. We were not alone! Apparently half the north woods was trying to find some breakfast. The staff was very accommodating and friendly as they explained to our party (and those that followed) about the wait time, but it was worth it! The food was beautifully presented and was delicious! I highly recommend the Wild Boar Bacon, the Bison Sausage, and any of the benedicts! The "stuffed" french toast was great, and the Country Fried Steak was epic. We also enjoyed a skillet with delicious country gravy and biscuits and the kids menu definitely satisfied our kiddo - we went back several times over the course of the week it was so good (what, you thought we ordered all of that in one sitting!?). And, our server, Melanie, was just awesome as well and you could tell she was a veteran at what she does, just fantastic service. We look forward to dining there again the next time we head up north. read more

Disappointed in the menu, and the food was underwhelming at best. Went for lunch after seeing rave reviews on Facebook and left baffled by them. The walleye sandwich, though nicely sized, was undercooked and served on a non toasted bun, making for a soggy mess. Reuben sandwich served on super thin bread with way too much dressing. "Upgraded" from fries to onion rings for $2, only to receive undercooked rings clearly from an Ore Ida bag. Service, too, was slow, and though we were interested in another drink and dessert we were not given the opportunity to order any. Maybe at dinner the menu is more imaginative and the staff peppier, but this lunch was not a winner. We won't be back. read more

Had the worst cod dinner on a Friday fish fry. Mushy, fishy smelling and tasting. The hush puppies tasted like the fish. Ate bread and a few fries. When I told the waitress it was not edible, she said , "sorry"! She then took my uneaten plate away and gave us the bill. I asked if I could try another fish to see if it was better, she explained , "it was not all you could eat"! Never going to this restaurant again. read more

Was surprised by the many dinner offerings since this restaurant has typically been on my radar for breakfast/lunch. Two of us had the halibut which we enjoyed, one had the roast duck, also liked, and the last had the pot roast special which was disappointing - just not all that good considering it is a weekly special. The service was good but it seemed like they ran out of rolls and instead were pushing sweet breads, more appropriate for breakfast than "fine dining" which is what they are aiming for in the evening. read more

Will definitely go back! Went for dinner on a Saturday night, not many people there which had us worried. But the food was amazing. My friend and I had the Tortellini, her husband had the Osso Bucco, my husband had the Wild Game Trio, all were delicious. So many unique dishes that were in the low $20 price range, all came with soup or salad and a variety of breads, and a bit of sorbet just prior to the entree to cleanse the pallet. They also had other dinners in the $10ish range that looked good. Don't worry if you are not into wild game, they have regular stuff too, even a vegetarian burger. They serve breakfast all day and have daily specials. So many meals I want to try, like Ostrich Wellington. Go there soon, because once word gets out they will be hard to get into! read more

DO NOT GO HERE. This was an abysmal dining experience. After being seated, I waited for several minutes without a waiter coming over to the table. Eventually, I had to ask for a waitress to come serve my table. We were not given water until we asked for it. We waited about 40 minutes for our food (even though the restaurant was not busy). We were told there was a glitch in the computer system, and the food would not be ready for another 5-10 minutes. After waiting another 20 minutes, the food was still not on the table. I had to go into the kitchen and ask them bring out my food. Even after the hour long wait, the waitress still messed up our order. She was extremely combative and disrespectful towards one of the other people at my table. She yelled at him in front of all of the other customers. We were ultimately given our meal for free and offered a coupon, but no amount of money could compel me to ever go back to this restaurant. Here's a review of the food: I ordered the hash and eggs. There were several foreign objects in my food that I didn't order. Several unwanted slices of apple and strawberry were mixed in with the hash. It was repulsive. I also ordered a cinnamon roll. The "cinnamon roll" I was given was a flat piece of bread (aka not a roll) with powdered sugar. There was no icing at all. Another person in my party ordered the raspberry oatmeal pancakes. She described the consistency of the pancakes as "rubbery". This was the worst dining experience I have ever had. I almost didn't write this review because I'm fairly certain this restaurant will be closed within a year. However, I hope that no one else has to suffer through eating at this pathetic excuse for a restaurant. read more

We ate at the Wild Boar last night. Definitely a café decore but gourmet dining! Menu choices are abundant including breakfast and lunch items for dinner if you are so inclined. I had the lamb Osso Buco which was excellent. Friends had the Cornish game hen with rice pilaf and vegetables and salmon with rice and vegetables. Another had a hamburger. All were excellent! Mixed review for me. Went here with three other people. This place has a identity crisis so it hard to take them seriously. I ordered the Cornish hen. Which was terrible. But the veggie blend sidedish was excellent. One of my companions had the walleye. Which was very good. They serve breakfast all day, which makes the whole restaurant 'dumb down' at dinner . Decided to try this new place on a Wed night for supper because the reviews on Facebook were very good. It was ok, probably will not return though. Restaurant was half full, said it would be a 3 minute wait, was more like 10. I had fried cod, 2 pieces that were a bit burnt on the outside, not very appealing to look at, with a heavy beer batter, fish itself was moist and flaky, beans had a weird twang flavor, fries, coleslaw, tartar was good, rye bread was toasted and buttered. Husband had turkey, stuffing, potatoes, gravy, corn.......turkey was grilled, making it drier, gravy was thick and very salty. Reminded him of Ella's, from years ago. Daughter had spaghetti and meatballs, angel hair pasta was cooked well, sauce was more marinara and lacking flavor, meatballs were ok, but not sure what the meat was, didn't taste like ground beef, garlic toast was ok. We had a really great experience at the Wild Boar. My brother lives in the area and has been there many times. There are many very different choices available like Wild Boar, Osterich, etc however we stuck with the more common choices. There was just 3 of us. We were seated right away and waited on right away. We started with the sampler platter which was deep fried veggies, cheese curds, cheese sticks, onion rings, and french fries. How can you go wrong with deep fried goodness? My husband had fried walleye and it came with french fries, hush puppies, and veggies. He said it was fantastic! I had a fried pork tenderloin with sweet potatoe fries - very good! My brother had a salad with grilled chicken on top and said it was fantastic also. And something that goes a long way with me is having good raspberry iced tea. They had the best in the area! Our service was spot on! We will definitely be back Wild Boar! read more
