Food here is generally decent brekkie fare -- with the exception of my pumpkin waffle, which was raw pumpkin dough on the inside and crisp on the outside. That recipe definitely needs work (does nobody test them before adding them to the menu?). I would have sent it back but frankly I felt sorry for the waitress: service is harried and frantic because the owner is clearly a cheap-ass who refuses to hire enough staff, and it shows. Ambience is okay...don't expect comfy chairs or fresh paint. Lots of intriguing specials on the chalkboard though. I'd come back for those. But FFS, hire an extra waitress. I loved it! Honestly I was a little bit concerned when I walked in. It is very much old-school diner, looks like it probably hasn't changed a whole lot since it was built (although it was very clean let's be clear). The vibe fits the name. It's not chichi trendy brunch spot at all. It's just a good honest diner with good honest food (NOT cheap tho...this is, after all, Carpinteria). The caliber of food was really impressive to me. It did not taste like greasy diner food at all it was very fresh very good ingredients, well seasoned and flavorful. And even though it came out quickly it was everything was cooked fresh to order. The coffee was good diner coffee if you know what I mean. And I loved my waitress. She seems like she's probably been there waitressing for a good while. She wasn't fake-effusive, but she was honestly friendly and attentive and made sure everyone was seated and happy and had what they needed. We started our beautiful day in Carpinteria with brunch at this cute little place. It was busy! But that didn't take away from the warm welcome and great service we experienced. The menu is extensive but given it's our first visit, we decided to start at the top. I had the homemade corned beef hash and eggs with a biscuit topped with gravy. My husband can never resist biscuits with gravy so he chose to have it with chorizo and eggs. We then added a side of fluffy pancakes to share. That corned beef hash - WoW! Melt in your mouth tender and juicy. It was all so, so good. The portions were just right. Service here is amazing. Our server was friendly and attentive. He was supported by the fantastic owner who kept tables clean, seats filled, drinks refilled and somehow found time in between to acknowledge the regular patrons. Really sweet. We then spent the rest of the day browsing through the quaint shops right outside the restaurant, then walking up to the beach to admire the scenic views. I went here for my birthday breakfast since it was foggy in the morning I was honestly a little sad since I had planned to go paddleboarding first thing in the morning. Marie was fantastic and cheered my morning up without realizing it. Her and her staff where friendly, knowledgeable, and did a great job with their service. Some things seem a little overpriced, while other items are actually cheap. I ordered shrimp and grits. Dare I say it? Thiers is better than the place in Santa Barbara that specializes in Cajun brunch. Hard to believe, but it's true! Tasty shrimp, good quality homemade grits, spinach. Only thing missing is the andouille. My companion had a breakfast burrito with corned beef. It was very large and deemed "Delicious." We've been here several times for breakfast. Parking is plentiful in the back. You can eat insifde or outside. The service is absolutely fantastic!! It's a small beakfast/lunch place, but I can't comment on their luncheon food since we had breakfast both visits. Breakfast was excellent. We had 6 people both times we visited, so we had a wide variety of foods. Everyone agreed the food was great, except for the corn beef hash, which they tout as one of their best dishes. A lovely find in Carpenteria! All our dishes were delicious. We were promptly seated in the back outdoor patio. Socially distanced well and employees were wearing masks. This is a small spot just like a lot of beach places, but oh it was so good. There is street parking and a public lot just across the street. There may have been more parking in the back but I am not sure. It was a rainy Saturday so I am not sure if that affected the crowd, but we were able to immediately get a table just before noon. The servers were friendly and took drink orders right away. We ordered an omelette and a scramble. We both enjoyed our food immensely. The omelette was flavorful and the chorizo in the scramble was delicious. The biscuit was interesting as it said it was fried, but very moist. The gravy is a milk pepper gravy but no meat, but pairs great with the biscuits of their home style potatoes. We are tempted to go back tomorrow since we are from out of town, but will probably try something else. Will definitely visit here again when in the area. read more

The energy that Rick generates is contagious and super charges me for the rest of the day. This is a local business that does it right. We tried the Grilled Biscuits and Gravy. I didnt find anything that stood out that made them taste different with being "grilled" but no matter, they were delicious! The gravy was amazing. My husband ordered the Piggy Mama Mia. It was delicious and a lot of food! They had a kombucha mimosa, which I had never heard of. I tried it and it was different, but very tasty. This was a busy place and lots of locals here. You could see the friendliness between the employees and regulars. They servers knew their orders, drinks and even dog's names. My friend could not stop hyping up the Worker Bee's breakfast burrito. I'm not the biggest breakfast burrito fan, but I gotta admit that this was really good! I went with the sausage, beef, and bacon as my proteins, but I think they forgot the sausage which was unfortunate. If they did, then it was really small and I couldn't taste it. But as a whole, the burrito tasted fantastic - cooked perfectly, seasoned well, and left a lasting impression that would make me recommend and order it again. The restaurant has a good vibe, I didn't catch too much of the indoor seating, but there's a quaint outdoor set-up that fits the beachy scene. The menu has a lot of enticing options, so I would probably try their other dishes before turning back to the burrito. But if you're ordering to-go, then grab that burrito and head down to enjoy the beach! The service was a bit slow out of the gates, but the food came at a reasonable time.
