This Is It Cafe - Southern Breakfast at its best! - Diners Near Me - West Palm Beach, Florida

Don't believe any of these positive reviews, AND do not go to this restaurant...I have worked in the restaurant industry for a long time and have SEEN IT ALL!!! This place has all the tell tale signs of poor management and lack of investment from the owner... The menu itself was dirty and had hand scribbled notes about the catfish being "ASIAN"... The menu items were stolen from Denny's in 1989 and the specials were written on a dirty whiteboard and were anything but special. THE FUNNIEST PART of the specials board is that I looked at a post from 2 years ago on here and its the same specials written too small on the same dirty whiteboard...LMAO!!! The inside/decorations makes it appear as if they just opened shop yesterday but the disgusting stains and the old carpeting tell a different tale...The serving station was ghetto at best, no mats for the glasses to rest, dirty counter tops, makeshift containers for condiments and what not, little plastic containers screwed to the walls with servers grabbing things with their bare hands...lemons for drinks in a container just sitting out in the open on the counter, no lids or ice to keep it cool(this is how people get sick!!!!). There is nothing that disgust me more than laziness and blatant disregard for proper food handling, "just a whole in the wall" is no excuse for laziness! The staff...we sat at the bar so we could see what was going on...its basically an open kitchen which is probably a bad idea for business...the cooks looked mad and were all rocking grizly beards and one of them kept giving my brother a dirty look...they would frequently come out to the dinning area to talk with friends, these guys were absolutely filthy and none of them were wearing any kind of restaurant attire or uniforms. The wait staff was even worse, no name tags, no uniforms, the bus boys were Hispanic guys who were spoken to in a very disrespectful manner by the waitresses. Our waitress was nice, no complaints with her service. THE FOOD...I ordered a vegetable omelette with fruit and a biscuit...I received a vegetable omelette with white toast and fruit. The omelette was greasy but otherwise cooked perfectly, the fruit bowl tasted like pickle juice was spilled onto it...and there was some cottage cheese on some of the melon...plus the fruit was dry and appeared to be cut by a toddler with the pineapple pieces I got were the rind...my brother ordered the eggs benedict with home fries and whole wheat toast. The eggs benedict was actually cooked perfectly and the hollaindaise sauce was actually pretty good. The home fries was a joke! Boiled potato chunks burnt on one side and cold and mushy on the other side, it literally looked like someones first attempt at making breakfast potatoes....and it just tasted like burnt oil... Long story short...There's a bunch of breakfast and lunch places all over town! After leaving YOU WILL WILL WISH YOU WENT SOMEWHERE ELSE, ANYWHERE ELSE. Blacklisted for life. LIFE IS TOO VALUABLE TO WASTE AT ESTABLISHMENTS LIKE THIS. read more

Awesome food and extremely reasonable. The breakfast is very good, especially the Eggs Benedict, French Toast and Bacon. For lunch it is hard to choose between the yummy cheeseburger and the special chicken salad melt. read more

You can tell allot about the quality of a place by the clientele that eats there. The law enforcement community loves this place, 'nough said. The serving staff and culinary staff are top tier, and most have been there since the opening of the cafe. The food is prepared with fresh ingredients and served with a smile, and friendliness, or an attitude if you prefer (some of us do) ;-) It's all good! For what is served and available on the menu, you get the most for your consumer dollar. Well worth the experience! read more

I absolutely LOVE this restaurant! Atmosphere, locals, fabulous food and great prices. We are travelers for the first time to West Palm Beach, and thrilled to have found this place. FAB breakfast spot! We have been back 3x and are getting ready to return a fourth time. Sandy, our fun waitress who has been amazing, has become a friend! She has taken not only given great service and taken care of any requests, she has also added flavor and heart to our questions about the area, with good recommendations. Off to eat... again! Food is fine.... service horrible, all waitresses minus "Sue" (I think that's her name) is nasty and rude af with horrible attitudes. I just ordered take out order over the phone and wasn't greeted instead I was rushed and spoken to as if I was incompetent. This establishment needs to do better. Went to a late breakfast today. A few troublesome flags went up early and the tide never shifted after the warnings. They were busy but there were plenty of open tables so they weren't packed. It took several minutes and several walk-bys by staff until we were asked if we needed a menu....we did. I sense they have a steady group of regulars when asked this question. Our server Jeanette then disappears and someone else brought the menu in several more minutes. Jeanette returns and informs us they are busy so expect to wait for the food. Okay. Two omelettes, hash browns and chessy grits. Okay. However, two tables in another waitresses section got their two omelettes, grits and hash browns before we did. The story is not lining up. The food...hash browns had about 25% of the potatoes way under-cooked. Close to raw...but warm. The cook should really sweat the bell peppers before folding into an omelette because otherwise it's pretty raw and crunchy. Cheesy grits were good grits with a Kraft single draped over the cup of grits. The menu didn't read make your own cheesy grits (with 2% fake cheese). We were bummed. We love breakfast and this place came recommended. Anyone can have an off service but breakfast is not that tough and when you put-off your wait staff by asking for re-fills on coffee and then get the stink-eye when asking for the check....that's a sign to never return. read more

We love the breakfast spot! Eclectic mix of people and great food, great staff and a very nice outdoor seating patio. Dogs are welcome on the patio, which is a super plus! The area is a great up-and-coming area with more restaurants popping up every time we come. Food is great and plentiful as well. Every time we are here, we come for breakfast. read more

I have been here many many times, and I'm never surprised by how amazing they are. Their service and quality are always consistent. Yesterday I went in and had the fried steak breakfast and OMG was it incredible. 10*rating needed. The service is fairly quick if it's a small group sometimes it can be a little longer if you are in a large group but it's well worth the (tiny bit of) patientce. Their breakfast is always on point and I've had lunch once which was great too. The service is always friendly, and the prices are cheap. read more

Just experienced the worst customer service!!!!!! We were not greeted at the door and had to seat ourselves when the party before us was greeted at seated. The waiter came to the table and immediately blurted out " we are not serving breakfast you can get a waffle or omelette that's it". Well afternoon to you to!!! read more

Sat at the counter and was quickly given a water and delicious coffee. I had two large fried eggs, crispy bacon, home style potatoes- and toast. I left a tip on the counter for the waitress and paid at the register. My tab was 5.25! It just makes sense to have a fresh made breakfast including coffee, for less than what you might pay at McDonald's. Did I mention that the food is delicious! The Eggs Benedict rock here. The only reason I've eaten here more than once is its close to me. The food is so-so , I can't remember ever getting anything to rave about here. The service is always very slow. Even at the counter. Prices - super affordable when you're on a family vacation with lots of mouths to feed. Location - 0.6 miles from where we rented. Easy access and parking. The interesting thing is that we rented a nearby home, where we were steps away from other million-dollar homes and HUGE yachts. Then drive 0.6 miles in the opposite direction to the neighborhood where this place is located and it's like the polar opposite. We are from the opposite side of the Country, so I have no idea what Crime Watch says about this place, but the area itself appears sketchy and not well developed. If you're looking for local feel, this place will supply that in abundance. Locals galore and VERY loud. Young and old alike, congregate at this restaurant. My family and I selected it because of location and the 4.5 stars it received on another website. Food - Portions are more than ample. Scrambled eggs were good. Pancakes are large (the size of a platter), they were served hot, soft - actually very spongy. French toast- would not recommend. They couldn't have been more basic. When you read the description on the menu, you expect something grandiose. Instead, they look and taste like something I could have made myself (and that's not saying much). Bacon - varied from soft, chewy & greasy to hard, crispy, and greasy - all on the same plate. Overall - a few hours after eating here, several members of my family complained of really bad abdominal pain and for some of us, a lot more than pain (spare you the details on that). Not sure if there's a correlation between eating her around 1pm (they close at 2pm), and the subsequent GI upset that followed among my several members of my family. Either way, I will not be returning here. Don't wish to chance it. The aftermath was rough enough. Overall - it was cheap food and the portions are large. Offers lots of variety for breakfast and lunch. I am guessing the big draw for this place is the pricing and the amount of food you get - more so than the actual taste of the food. This is probably my first and last visit. Was never acknowledged. Staff is not warm and never smiles. I came in and was never acknowledged after standing in the "wait to be seated" area for several minutes. So I sat myself at the bar for take out. Waiter was having a personal conversation right next to me with a friend and still never acknowledged me. After the friend finally left, she said are u eating here or take out. She never said hello. I said take out and then she said hold on a moment. Great- now I'm waiting again. Finally she took my simple order and treated me like I was an inconvenience to her. A friend and I went on a late Sunday morning. The waitress came over after a minute to bring menus and ask what we wanted to drink- she wasn't very friendly. Not two minutes later she came back and asked what we wanted to eat. We told her we needed a few minutes. She came back three times in a matter of about five minutes to ask us again. The place was not busy, I didn't understand the pushy-ness. My friend and I just made a decision so we wouldn't be an inconvenience to the waitress (God forbid people do their JOBS). The food came out quick and was good, and inexpensive. The home fries with onions were delicious. We had just finished our food when another waitress came over and basically told us to hurry up and pay the bill so they could close the register. Are you serious? There are other patrons still eating- it's not like we were holding them up from closing! Although I enjoyed the food, I don't know if I would come back based on the (lack of) service. read more

Two of us had omelettes which were inedible - so greasy that it took 2 napkins to soak up the grease. It wasn't butter, just old oil. The glue-like grits were not tasty. The coffee and oatmeal were fine. The cook confuses good food with lots of food - this place just gives big portions which don't taste good. One neighborhood place now off our list. read more
