I really wanted to like this place. The service and ambiance are both good. The food, though, is ordinary, but not at the prices ordinary food should cost. What is it with Arizona and sugar in food? The predominant flavor in their salad dressings is sugar. Bad start, although the quality of the vegetables was good. My main course was the half chicken. The quality is good, but the taste is unexceptional. However, I couldn't smear the green beens, which tasted odd, or the polenta, which tasted as if if was blended 50/50 with butter - wrong texture and taste. My wife had the halibut special. Again, good quality but uninspired preparation. Her green bean side also tasted odd. The roasted fingerling potatoes were ok but I can do them so much better. When the manager asked how our food was, my wife did the polite thing and said it was good. I couldn't do that, and was aware that the face I made screamed "meh"! He accepted this and went to the next table. Hint to restaurants: don't ask if you don't care about the response! It's far worse than not asking. Our bill including tip just topped $100, with no alcohol. Just not worth it! I'd have given 3-stars strictly on merit, as it is so average. But I docked one star because of the prices and the manager interaction. read more

Went to Thompson 105 tonight and it exceeded expectations. When we walked in , we were immediately seated and hostess was friendly. Emma our server couldn't have been better. Great atmosphere with beautiful mountain views. We tried the Restaurant Week menu and it was Amazing. We took our dessert home as we couldn't eat another bite. We loved the Citrus Salad , Focaccia Bread , meatballs with polenta, Awesome Halibut and Tiramisu. We will be back again soon! read more

You need to try Thompson 105. This was my wife and I first visit since it was renovated and transitioned from the Thirsty Lizard. The owners have done a great job with the renovation great vibe and live music that is not overwhelming A big shout out to Livia our waitress. She was informative friendly and had a great way of tending to the table There is a great selections of wines by the glass. We started with the focaccia which was very flavorful and had the Rigatoni Rustica for our main dish which was very flavorful We had the Brownie Skillet for desert which might just be the best desert in the desert. T105 is in our neighborhood, so we often recommend this as a venue when friends are asking for something special. The service is great and the menu does not disappoint. Excellent cocktails! Dining room has an upscale, but warm and friendly ambience. Best part: you can enjoy fantastic views of the McDowells from the patio (...with plenty of heaters for those chilly evenings). read more

Came here the other night for dinner with family. Ordered the steak and fries. I am not sure what it is with the kitchen but they cannot get a steak right. Sent it back for being extremely undercooked... when it came back it was still raw. The waiter recommended trying something else which I did since he did not have much confidence in them getting it right if sent back again. This is not the first time I have been served raw steak at this place as well, they started cutting the steak before served but they still fail at getting it right. For an expensive dish I expect better. It should not be hard to cook a steak with out even cutting it before served. I recommend that the owner takes a serious look at why this is a reoccurring problem. Use a meat thermometer or do anything different. It is also not proper to cut steak before it is served so that is also a red flag. I am only giving the place a 3 star review because their servers are great and want to help and the ambiance is very nice. Hoping to see better next time I come. read more

I'm giving them 4 stars for their potential. Next time we'll sit outside. The folks at the bar were very loud (and obviously had been there for a while, they may still be there!) and since the bar transverses the whole restaurant, it was just like eating at the bar. The service was excellent and they placed us at a different table which was slightly better. Also the manager was first class and responsive to our concerns (although obviously they can't do anything about the bar patrons who I guess are regular locals). But we were very impressed with T105's novel Brussels sprout caesar salad. Very healthy, full of greens. That deserves 5 stars PLUS for those of you who are looking for an alternative to the pitiful, ordinary, nutrition-less caesar salads at most restaurants. read more

My husband and I came here yesterday after one of the investors, Tim, recommended it to me back in November. We finally were able to make it in, and it did not disappoint! The espresso martinis were SO GOOD. Our waitress, Laine, was the best. She had a great attitude and was very accommodating with any requests I made (I am picky with certain foods). Our food came out quickly, hot, and exactly as she described it would be. The actual food matched the website photos as well, which I loved! I always look up dishes in advance. My husband got the 1/2 chicken and I got the prime rib. We got a side of Brussel sprouts and bowl of the prawn spaghetti, which has a nice spice to it, it was perfect and tasted so good. The leftovers we took home are already gone! We will 100% be back and I have told a ton of friends already. Can't wait to come in for Happy Hour with friends too! read more

Just returned home from having a wonderful bite to eat at Thompson 105. I met three other ladies on the patio for happy hour. I had heard many good things about this restaurant but hadn't tried it which was silly since it is only a few blocks from my house. Our Server was Trevor and he was truly awesome! He took great care of us! Loved how all the servers are dressed the same (adding a little class to the place). The food was delicious. Three of us had the Prime rib dip / shaved prime rib ends with Swiss cheese and juju. All three of us thoroughly enjoy every bite. I'm super fussy about my meat being lean with NO fat. If it could have been slightly better ... it would be if the meat was a little less well done. These didn't disappoint! Happy hour price was $11 for three of them which I felt was a deal. Came with fries too. Our other diner had the 1/2 portion of the Prong spaghetti and she loved it. We finished the meal by sharing the Brownie Skillet. It was good but next time I would try another one of their desserts. Finally I want to mention that I enjoyed a glass of the Juggernaut Cabernet Sauvignon. Sooo good! $9.00 per glass on happy hour. Patio was lovely but did struggle a wee bit with flys. We will most Definitely return to this restaurant. Soooo lucky it's right in our neighborhood. read more

The ambiance and service are great. Amazing views and decent happy hour (for drinks). The food, however, is not good at all. It's your quintessential dive bar menu, but I have had better food at dive bars. My wife and I typically lean towards seafood, but we smelled it coming out when we were deciding what to order and it smelled awful both times while passing by us. Looking at the food at the other tables (chicken wings, chicken fingers, etc), we figured it would be safe to go with the trio sliders and a burger. Unfortunately, we were mistaken. Nothing was even remotely decent. The worst part were the buns. Oversized, dry and stale, grocery store type. None of the meat was good. I would go back here again for drinks and the view, but definitely a hard pass on any of the food. Not sure how anyone could say the food here is great unless they have been eating top ramen their entire life or just a homer. Hate to be so critical, but it was that bad. read more

This is upscale Italian for people who appreciate such things. Last night we sat outside for dinner as the moon came up over the mountains. Dogs are welcome on the patio and there were two there last night which is nice to see. I recommend the All Italian Negroni which has some slightly sweet undertones. Even if you find Negronis bitter, give this a try because it's quite good and very subtle. Our server says it's also available in a martini glass but do the intelligent thing and stick with the traditional rocks glass. For dinner I had the fettuccini primavera and for dessert, there is a separate menu that I don't see on the web site, but I had the key lime pie which I would also rank as one of the better ones I've had. The only downside I can think of is there is espresso but no latte or cappuccinos which seems an odd oversite. If management reads this hopefully you're working on that. A friend of mine took me here for my birthday. I was kind of reluctant to go because I didn't really like the former place that used to be there. That place was called the twisted lizard, but this place is really wow! It's such a cute and homey place. They have book shelves, family photos, books sitting all around. The one thing that I absolutely love about this restaurant is they do half orders of the salad. We had a really good drink as well. The bar staff was spot on. They have a beautiful patio that looks out at the McDowell mountains. I'm waiting until the weather cools off to take my hubby there. I cannot wait to go back again. read more

Neighborhood bar and restaurant, we had been coming here for the past 20 years when it was Cafe Portobello, then the Twisted Lizard; all with multiple owners, mediocre food, "live" entertainment that was purely awful. It closed during covid, the new owners came in and completely redid the restaurant, the kitchen, put in a rotisserie grill for the chicken, and really upped the game over the previous incarnations. Nice mountain view on patio. 1st visit all good. 2nd visit over battered and over fried fish fry special. 3rd visit, same with the fried chicken sandwich, plus so thin it was like leather. Optional side salad was meh. We all agreed the red sangria had harsh flavor and served with only 1 slice orange . So busy chatting with friends, I didn't notify waitress, or I'm sure they would have made it right. Got home and thought about it and realized my entire meal was bad! read more

I was really looking forward to finally trying this restaurant, but I'm sorry to say I was disappointed. My two friends each ordered a pasta dish, and in both cases, it was clear that the chef does not know to put salt in the water before cooking pasta. Every good chef knows that the water should be salted to the salinity of the oceans. Sadly, the two pasta dishes were bland and sad. I can't remember now what I had but it was just average. The wait staff was very nice, but it appears that their ordering technology must be very complicated because it took our waiter many many minutes to input each of our three orders. We each ordered a vodka and soda, and none of us could taste any vodka whatsoever. Lastly, this is a very small venue, and we were seated next to the live music which included a keyboard and saxophone. The entertainer was very good but the three of us couldn't hear each other talk over the music which was unfortunate. I'm sure in better weather, the entertainment would be outside, which would be great, but inside was overkill. read more

Dinner was fabulous, and our server, Hunter, was amazing! This was our first visit and we had lots of questions. Hunter answered each one with ease and a smile, and even consulted with the head chef for us a couple of times. We started off with two appetizers: the fried artichokes and ahi tostadas. My husband and our friends had the evening's special, Grouper, and the fish and chips, and I had the Prawn Spaghetti. All of the food was superb! We topped it all off with the skillet brownie, key lime pie, and cheese cake. These desserts were awesome. In addition, it began to rain before we were finished eating. Hunter and the manager were very quick to re-seat us comfortably indoors even though the restaurant was full. We live in the East Valley, so the restaurant is a little out of our way, but despite this we will definitely return very soon. read more

I arrived by plane from Chicago and went directly to Thompson 105 to meet some friends for dinner. There were 13 of us in total, and it was most amazing. From the moment you walk through the door, you feel the warmth and energy of this restaurant. The staff is exceptional. Our table was ready on the side patio, which was cozy and warm. Views are magnificent. Our waitress was excellent and the food was amazing! Every dinner and appetizer came out perfectly. We tried five of the appetizers loving all of them and the entrées ranged from one of the specials of the night, fish and chips, which was fried grouper and french fries to Burgers, salads an and pasta dishes. Everything was perfection! I loved every minute and will certainly go back. read more

Amazing new restaurant, we are lucky to have this gem in MMR. I started with the focaccia and it was killer, a good starter. I had the mushroom polenta and loved it! The salmon and roasted chicken were equally as good. Their wood fire smells heavenly and it's fun to see them through the glass as they cook. They have a great drink list and can't beat the views. Live in the area and very happy to see something replace the TL. Have been there twice now both by reservation, so clue how it easy it is to just pop in. Sat inside both times. New decor is very nice and classy, love the blue. The service was better the second visit but otherwise very good - lots of servers - will be interesting if they can afford to keep all of them or if this is just for opening. Both visits there were 6 of us so someone had a meal they didn't love, but overall the food was good. Nice wine and beer selection as well. Focaccia starter is super yummy and really like how they have half orders of pasta. Do not recommend the lasagna unless you love sweet veal, it was not a flavor anyone at the table enjoyed.
