We recently bought a 2025 Toyota Camry at Thompsons Toyota. The sales routine was fairly standard, what can they do to get our business today etc. We had a few offers they had written down, we accepted one and were lead to the finance office where the offer on paper had magically disappeared. I asked to see the offers again and was told they had been shredded. This led to a feeling of mistrust and I considered walking out and trying elsewhere. We went through with the sale, even though I did question the shredding of all the paperwork. We left with the car that day. Several days later the car would not start after being driven to the local grocery store. We were getting brake error messages, all the lights etc worked so the battery was not dead. We called our towing service and the dealership. We asked them to arrange a loaner car, which they did. The car was towed to a different dealership where we learned that this same car had failed at 7 miles and now again at 400 miles. The car had completely glitched, brake warnings, contact dealer, car failed etc. The car apparently had a bad cell in the battery that was reported with the first failure. Thompson Toyota not only did not repair the car properly but they also failed to disclose that the car had a maintenance report on it. Had we known this we would not have bought this particular car at full price. We have never heard back from Thompson Toyota to inquire what was wrong with the vehicle, let alone how they could compensate or help us further. If this had been a piece of furniture we purchased and I found out it had a broken leg that was being repaired for a second time I would return it. Our $33,000 auto purchase does not seem to have the same standards. As a good faith from the dealership I would have expected compensation and an apology for the non disclosure of repair and inconvenience. Now we have a new car that we are unsure of, that at less than 500 miles has died twice. Very disappointing experience and in the future I suppose one needs to ask for all records on the car? I wouldn't have thought on a supposed brand new car. So fair to say, I would not recommend this dealership unfortunately. read more

First time using Thompsons Toyota of Placerville . Glad I chose them out of a hand full of Toyota dealers within 100 miles radius of where I live. While it took about an hour drive to get there, it was definitely worth the drive.   When I first contacted Thompsons Toyota via internet sales a couple of months ago, I was connected with their dedicated internet sales Manager "Mr. Bill" McCarty ,  a wonderful person to work with -- warm, sweet, easy, prompt, and professional.  Although the truck I was supposed to get from them got unexpectedly intercepted by another customer who showed up at the dealer two and a half hour before my appointment time (Thompsons Toyota has a first come first serve policy),  Bill and his manager Ronnie did not disappoint me. They promised to reserve an identical Tacoma to my name from their next shipment.  During the long waiting for the next shipment that had been delaying due to manufacture's swamped schedule, Bill continued to monitor the production and transport schedule as the information became available and kept me informed of the status.  My gut feeling was right about entrusting him and the dealer's promise and not looking elsewhere. Sure enough, after a long wait, I was rewarded with a beautiful brand new Tacoma. Best yet, they kept the same price as two months ago despite the $5,000 price increase on this latest shipment. The whole process was absolutely painless and Bill made our visit to the dealer enjoyable. It was like visiting our friend's house to pick up something plus a bottle of wine :-).  I am super happy about their service. Never Again! Be Careful! If I could give a negative review I would! My wife and I certainly were not treated like Family! We recently moved to the area. We have owned Toyota's for 30 years. Thompson's Toyota checked my wife's 2009 Toyota Camry in as our 2017 4Runner. Yes, checked a Camry in as a 4Runner! How this was done is beyond me! Last time I looked these are two very different vehicles. I chased Thompson's Toyota since September 2022 to get this resolved as the mileage is very different on these two cars and needs to be correct for record purposes. As of the end of February 2023 I had enough with the many calls talking to different people to get this corrected. Left a message for the GM to return my call March 1st. Wednesday, March 8th 2023 a gentleman returned my call stated that the GM from GMC asked him to call me regarding warranties that they could purchase for their vehicles. Unbelievable! There are not enough words in the English language to describe this situation. If I ran my business this way I would be fired and out of business! Needless to say I will not be taking either of my vehicles back to this location nor will I be purchasing my next Camry from this location as the 2009 is going to be replaced soon. This gives me no confidence if they cannot get basic communication correct. What are they doing to my car based on the communication to the technicians. My experience with this location. I have never ever had the pleasure of this type of experience from any business I have delt with for the past 30 years. read more

I went in this past Saturday due to a Electronic stability control (esc): Control module: Software recall. I was in and out of there relatively quickly. However, the first thing I noticed, and it's not the first time, my radio station was changed. I don't think it's appropriate to do this. Secondly, I wasn't told when the warning message would turn off. Lastly, I noticed ( the next day) that my anti-theft control plug (I don't know, this is why I pay extra for maintenance), was unplugged. I was told that's what it was when I called. I was told to just bring it in. Well, it's an hour away for me, all the dealerships are and I was working. Then take it to any repair shop. Again, I was working and I'm sure it's not free. Question: Does this prevent someone from stealing the car, does it help track the car? I don't know? Again, it's why I pay extra for service. The attitude was cavalier and the service caliber keeps declining. Who would be liable if my car was actually stolen? I don't know? read more

We were shopping for a specific vehicle - 2014 FJ Cruiser - and located a vehicle at this dealership through Truecar .  We live in Los Angeles and asked Matt Smith to disclose any damage to the vehicle before we drove 450 miles to view it.  He sent a video which highlighted slight damage to the rear bumper. After driving five and a half hours, they had the car ready for viewing.  Immediately, my husband and I spotted a poor paint job/repair on the passenger-side suicide door. We also noticed damage to the passenger door itself,  bottom corner bent in.  There were numerous dings throughout the driver's door and back hatch door.  The most puzzling paint damage was on the roof towards the windshield. It looked as if clamps dug between the panels and gouged the entire width of this panel.  The worse, and most obvious damage was to the windshield where the seal was damaged, most likely due to a poor windshield replacement. This might also explain the paint chips on the roof.  Oh, and yes, we also saw the bumper blemish depicted in the video. Needless to say, we were disappointed that this was not disclosed as requested especially given that we were driving a long distance.  The manager offered compensation for the undisclosed vehicle damage, dropping the price for a meer $300 by "splitting" the difference on their profit on the car.  I guess they thought they had us since we came a long way.  We were more than annoyed and drove home sans the FJ Cruiser. A special note to those looking at this vehicle, I received a notice from Truecar that the price increased $1000 (from $31,990 to $32,990).  Go figure!  We since found and purchased an FJ Cruiser in Pasadena, 20 miles from home.  Anyway, sometimes it's good to walk away from a bad deal. read more
