Booked four men and a truck to move items from two storage units to home. Four men and a truck showed up when they said they would! Hard working men, Oscar, Angel, Luis and Alan, were courteous, considerate and careful. They confirmed what was staying in storage and what was leaving, blanket-wrapped furniture, packed the truck securely, picked up an item at another location and unloaded all at yet another location! When unloading, they asked what rooms the items went into AND moved items to another location if we changed our minds. They confirmed before they left that all items were where we wanted them! The Worst Moving Experience Of Our Lives Dan called **the day before** our scheduled move and said they could not move us on the following day as scheduled. He said 1) his truck broke down and 2) he was short a driver. We had scheduled this move several weeks before, and explained that we absolutely had to move on July 29th. We stayed in frequent contact, and on the Monday before moving day, we called to confirm. "Don't worry about a thing -- we will move absolutely everything." Strange that Dan couldn't find a truck; we rented our own, and at tremendous inconvenience and greatly added cost, had to move ourselves. There were several irregularities early on that should have alerted us to the fact that this company flies by the seat of their pants. First Dan was going to come over to give us an estimate; then he decided to make an estimate on the phone. His email regarding the estimate had no estimated cost. Over the period of several weeks, he gave us two different quotes. Dan and Thrifty Moving rank as one of the most unprofessional and unacceptable businesses in the Bay Area, and I advise you to hire a different moving company. read more

First, I'd like to start with how friendly and helpful the sales person Dan was. I had a problem with the previous movers that I hired for the move, on the day of the move they cancelled on me! Seriously???? The day of the move?? I was stressed out and didn't know what to do. Dan came to the rescue and said he had a spot open up for the following day! Yaaaaay!! I was ecstatic! He was nice, professional and very informative. Second, I lived on a 3rd floor stairs only kind of apartment and I was moving to another 3rd floor and yes again ONLY STAIRS. These guys rocked it! I definitely didn't have any complaints on how well these guys tackled those stairs! All I can say is WOW!! I hated bringing groceries up those stairs, I couldn't imagine trying to lift my heavy recliner couch up those stairs. All I can say is thank you!! Last, all I can say is that I probably would have done my move myself with my friends that would hate me for those stairs, but the team at Thrifty really came through for me. I had to move my grandmother into a group home and had a very positive experience with this moving company. The man who answered the phone knew the area extrremely well and by the types of questions he asked demonstrated that they had experience moving seniors. The two guys that moved everything were quick and efficient, and one even pointed out that an antique marble table top needed better padding/packing. I had put masking tape down on the floor of the new room to show where I'd wanted things, but it wasn't exactly working out. When one of the guys came to tell me this, my grandmother was in the middle of a complete meltdown. I couldn't deal with them at all and just asked them to make the big pieces fit. So they rearranged things while I tried to talk her down off the ledge. This was such a tremendous help. The price of the move was fair and was what I was quoted, but that kind of service is invaluable. I definitely recommend them to anyone needing to move in Contra Costa/East Bay. read more

Moving is stressful. Rooms of boxes, bags, personal treasures, equipment, kitchen utensils, toys, books, and artifacts too good for the trash not good enough for a museum. They all have to go! Our movers, J.C. and Juan, were hard working, efficient, prompt, and careful with our treasures. I chose this moving company based on the Yelp reviews below, and I wasn't disappointed! They did a great job of moving my household from Rossmoor in Walnut Creek to San Ramon. Thrifty Moving assigned Brad, Jose and Brian to move me. The first 3 hours was $521.00 After that, I was charged $147/hour. I am new to the bay area, so I don't know if these rates are on average, or not, but they seemed ok for a truck and three men. I have moved several times over the years and have dealt with several movers (across country, intrastate, and local hourly moves). My greatest aggravation is when a move is on an hourly basis, and the movers are purposely slow so they can rack up the hours. This didn't happen with these guys. They were very careful with my furniture and I highly recommend them!!! read more

Used this company last week. Crew was nice and tried to be helpful in my face. I the mean time, stuff is lost, three big scratches in freshly coated hard wood floor, dent in ceiling, and king size bed put crooked together. I had to go back to my old place three times to fill up SUV with stuff they left behind. Who leaves a safe and suitcases etc behind???? They charged us $300 than quoted. My husband tipped the guys, not realizing the mess they left behind. Anyway, i called Mike, one of the owners and he came over, fixed the bed, new tv cord, refunded some $$$. They actually packed more stuff than I had even planned on letting them take, which was a HUGE help. The moving team that did our move was outstanding. Jim, Andres, Angel and Ted were hard-working and efficient. They carefully wrapped all of our furniture items and not a single item was damaged. They took only short breaks (on a very warm day) and never complained (we gave them lots of water!). We moved from Danville to Clayton a month ago, and I'm finally getting around to writing the rave review that Thrifty Moving deserves. The crew included Tim and Colby, and was headed by John. All were professional, accommodating, had a great sense of humor, and we would hire them again. Most of all, their honesty and work ethic were outstanding. They wanted to get the job done properly and carefully for us, and their $ quote was right-on. The crew treated our high-end furniture with care, and when one of our bedframes was put together incorrectly, John returned to our house the following day and made it right. While here, he asked if there was anything else he could do for us, and he even moved a couple of heavy chests to a different room upon our request--talk about a great guy! We definitely tipped John and his crew--they deserved it. And, just remember that moving is awful under even the best circumstances, but the Thrifty Moving company and crew made it bearable with their work ethic and honesty. We would hire them again!! I called these guys less than 48 hours before my move...the first company I booked 12 days in advance ended up bumping me from my 7a-9a slot to 2p-4p TWO days before my move because mine was a two man job and the others they had were three man so they took precedence. This was pretty upsetting, so then I searched around on yelp and found Thrifty Moving... They had nothing but great reviews so I called to see if there was any chance they had a slot open for Saturday (this was Thursday afternoon too!) They DID have one, and the time slot was 9a-9:30a...this was already a plus because it wasn't a 2 hour window. I briefly explained how big our place was, the stuff we had and location info. They were very clear on what the charges were, what they provide, etc. They would send 2 guys for 3 hours (3 is the minimum). I received a call the day before to confirm everything was a go. The day of the move the two guys showed up a little after nine am. He did say we had quite a bit of stuff, and it may not be done on time, and it's cutting it close. They gave me approximate times on loading, travel and unloading. But I told him my main concern was all the big items and everything already in boxes (we had a good amount of miscellaneous things around that wasn't packed) They got to work right away after getting the paperwork done. They were careful with everything, shrink wrapping the big items to protect them. They were very aware of the time, double checking the time with me throughout the move. They didn't lolly gag and were efficient. They made a real effort to make sure everything was in the right places and we had 3 pieces disassembled/reassembled with no issues. These guys were really professional. In the end they only ended going about 15 minutes over (they do increments if it's past the agreed amount of hours). Nothing was damaged, they took good care of our things. The price was a little bit more than some of the other movers out there but TOTALLY worth it. read more

They came prepared with various sized dollies and rollers, and figured out the measurements prior to get everything through a very tight space, including a very large refrigerator and a large vintage sideboard. From the start, Diana at Thrifty's office, kept me informed throughout the process - she scheduled me promptly, and reviewed what to expect on the day of the move. Everything went as planned. They called and gave me notice that they would arrive within the hour, and when they did, they introduced themselves, then got to work right away. 5 STARS! I'm so impressed by this company. After moving many times I used this company to get a quote to move a small amount of large heavy items from my old apartment to my new apartment. The quote I was given was one of the lowest I'd found and the reviews quiet mostly great. I was unsure if I should pay for movers or take care of it myself with some friends I'm really glad I chose thrifty to move my things. The two guys who moved my stuff on Friday, January 5, 2018 were Boris and Greg they were awesome very nice and professional they wrapped the walls and cover the floors because it was rainy that day made sure everything was nice they notified me of any scratches or dents or damage to any of my items before they moved them they were very efficient and fast they completed the job and exactly recorded timeframe and met the cost exactly as expected I paid them in cash which lowered my total by 3% and even gave them each $20 as a tip. I would absolutely recommend thrifty moving and specifically Greg and Bruno they were both super awesome and did a great job you can definitely trust them for your moving needs and you will get your moneys worth for sure. We would definitely recommend thrifty moving company to everyone. This is our first big move. Ten years ago ,we moved from an one bed room apartment to a three bed house. We didn't have much and wanted save money so we hired Chinese workers. Their price was very low and did decent job but back then we only had four or five big items.it was just a three hours easy moving. This time is totally different, we have so much stuffs . We consider price but at the same time a good quality moving experience ,therefore we decide to use local professional moving company. After searching around and I can tell Dan is a very sincere person , try to listen to customer's needs. Based on my culture,we have tradition that move into a new place during a certain time means good luck and Dan understands it, accommodating it which I felt being respected. Workers are great and honest. They even picked up two checks and returned to me. And they also found my earnings. They ask questions and make sure they finish tasks correctly. They asked my permission before moving my kids Lego. There are so much great things to mention. He called a couple of days to confirm the move and answer any questions. Jim and Jaime were the movers. They were the most professional movers I have ever experienced. They were kind and introduced themselves right away. They had me introduce them to my mother and proceeded to take very good care of them. I have had some horrible experiences with movers from the front office not taking care of business to the movers who were just not good at communicating and interacting with people. After checking out different moving companies on yelp, I gave Thrifty moving a call. The first call is about 15 minutes while Dan gets all the details of your move. I was given a quote that I approved of and booked my date with a credit card hold (no charges were made). A few days before moving day Dan came by to do a visual inspection of the inventory (my stuff). He again gave me a quote based on the size of my house and the amount of items to be moved, the quote was the same as when we originally spoke. Dan called to confirm the night before the big day and advised the crew would be here between 9 and 9:30. The only small glitch up to this point was until the visual inspection I wasn't told they wouldn't move garbage bags (I stuffed pillow and bedding into them). Would have been nice to know that previously as I would have moved them to the new house over the weekend. The logic of they rip and don't stack well made sense, so not a big deal. Now here we are it is moving day. I got a crew of 4 men (I told Dan the faster the move the better) they showed up at 9 on the dot. Oscar and Tommy were the two that I got names from. Nice guys! So far the move is going well. They are working in beast mode! When they notice damage they call me over to point it out to confirm it's existing. I'm going to put this review on pause until we make it to the new house......................loading took about 2 hours which was awesome. On the other side now, did a quick walk thru to show them where to put everything. Quick well deserved lunch break and now they are back at it. Two hours later....boom they are done. Finished earlier then the estimated which of course decreased the price. Although I don't plan on moving again EVER if possible, I would definitely use Thrifty moving again if the need arises. read more

This is the third time I've used this company and they are absolutely the BEST!! They are pricey but worth it. They are the only highly rated company on YELP that sent an estimator out to actually look at what needed to be moved; as a result, there were no unpleasant surprised at the end of the day. The estimate was extremely close to the actual cost. Ishmael and his crew of four were careful, respectful, accommodating and very polite. The move was complicated because there were three stops involved. Stop #1 number one to my daughter's home to drop off several pieces of furniture and boxes, stop #2 to my new much smaller place and stop #3 to a separate on-site storage unit. There were stairs at two of the locations but the crew went up & down with a smile and without a single ding. Horrible experience. It ended up costing me double the amount they estimated despite the fact that I had them come out and meticulously write down everything in my house that needed to be moved. They broke my bed and my children's bed. They also lost critical tools needed to put other furniture back together. They also refused to take many storage tubs and bins even though they included them in the estimate, which meant I now had to pay another mover to move them. Finally, they took breaks and tried to charge me for time they were sitting down and not moving.In generally, they were also surly, unfriendly and just unpleasant to deal with. I think Oscar was the lead on this crew and it was a very bad experience. I won't use them again. read more
