Just had dinner here during restaurant week. The food was really good, I had the pork chop and my dad had the cavatelli. The pork chop was huge and although it was slightly dry, it still had good flavor. The cavatelli was good, just needed some cracked pepper which was not offered. The service was about average. Our individual appetizers were brought out about 10 minutes apart due to an apparent miscommunication b/t server and busboys. I like the ambiance, I just wish they could cut down on the noise, there was a constant dull roar happening. I would eat there again but not for full price. read more

Nice view on a sunny Saturday morning , but food was a big disappointment, service was subpar, the experience fell very short of my expectations. Dinner/Restaurant Week review Dishes eaten: Barbeque Duck Appetizer Butternut Squash Ravioli Appetizer Seared Scallop and Grilled Shrimp Entree Homemade Cavatelli Entree Caramelized Apple Tart Riesling wine My friend and I went for LI Restaurant Week on a Sunday night. We both heard parking is tough, but we found parking about a block away on the street. We arrived around 7:30 pm and didn't have a reservation, and the hostess was also the coat check, so it took a few minutes to get to us. There was no table available and she asked if we'd like to sit at the bar, which we were fine with, though we were a little cramped, having gotten seats between the end of the bar and the beer tap. The hostess forgot to give us drink menus, though that didn't prove a problem since we sat at the bar. The bartender asked about drinks very promptly, but took at least 15 minutes after that to take our food order. We managed to move down the bar in the meantime to a more open section. We were given a roll apiece after ordering, and the bread was hot from the oven. We each got a different flavor: I was given an onion roll and my friend a white roll. Softened butter was served with the bread. My friend also asked about what sweet white wine they had and the bartender said they only offered one: a Riesling. He gave her a taste and she enjoyed it enough to have a glass. The appetizers arrived pretty quickly and were delicious. I absolutely loved my BBQ duck salad. The cranberry dressing was amazing and the BBQ sauce on the duck was delicious. The duck was also generously portioned. There were at least 5 bigger than bite sized pieces. There were also polenta fries, though they had been advertised as crispy when they most definitely were not. Perhaps if they were placed on top of the dish instead of mixed with the green. However, all the flavors complemented each other well. My friend enjoyed her butternut squash appetizer. It was perfectly sized, at 3 ravioli. I tried some and whatever sauce they used really made the ravioli. The plating was well done on both dishes and were made so you would start eating the dish with your eyes as soon as you saw it. It took some time to get our entree after our appetizer dishes were taken away, at least 15 minutes. My dish was hot and perfectly cooked when it arrived though. The scallops were well seared and the shrimp perfectly done. The asparagus could have done with a bit more salt for flavor. I tried parsnip puree for the first time, which I was not a fan of. I don't blame the chef; I know now that I simply don't like parsnips. I didn't get to try my friend's pasta, but again, both dishes were presented beautifully. The dessert was tasty, an apple tart served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce. The puff pastry was nice and flaky. Nothing out of this world, but nothing to complain about either. I would go back, but I do wish the service would take the initiative a bit more and be faster. It really was the only downside. I was very hungry when my entree finally arrived. I really want to give this place 5 stars...but I just can't. Don't get me wrong, the place is beautiful, the wait staff is pleasant and attentive and the menu is creative. But the food, as delicious as it is, lacks a "wow factor". I even feel badly for saying that because it isn't often that I feel this way about food and it's difficult to put a finger on the shortcoming and even harder to make any suggestion on how to correct it. Also, the space, as beautiful as it may be, tends to feel a bit cramped on a busy night and gets quite loud! But don't let these factors dissuade you from checking out Thyme. I had a reservation made at THYME for 4 people a week in advance. ON the DAY of the reservation I needed to change it to 2 people due to unforeseen circumstances of the other couple. When Thyme called to confirm on the DAY of the reservation, I WAS TOLD THAT THEY WERE CANCELLING MY RESERVATION, since I became 2 people , not 4. I was speaking to the MANAGER I was told. I visited Thyme on a Thursday night with close friend. It was very easy to find and I just love Roslyn. I was not throughly impressed with Thyme though. Our waiter was very nice and very knowledgeable of the menu. We decided to order from the price fixed menu. I started with the Brussels sprout Cesar salad that was very good. I had the Salmon dish. It was not great. The pumpkin risotto was not what I was looking for. I usually love pumpkin too. Then the dessert was mediocre. I had the apple tart. The best part of the whole meal was the wine, Charles Krug Cabernet. Overall it was ok. I don't plan to head back. There are too many other yummy restaurants to eat at. read more

This place has never disappointed. Menu is basic and they dont seem to go far from their comfort zone but I've never had a bad meal. So sticking to the basics is good. Music on weekend nights is so cool. Very subtle, not too loud but just enough to add to the overall atmosphere. Upstairs is a little quieter and better for couples but it depends on your mood. I am giving it a 2 stars. Minus three starts for customer service, food and trickery to get you in the door. First, we have a toddler and the waitress wasn't friendly at all. She acted like we did not belong there and only asked us once how we were doing. But came to us 3 times within 8 minutes span to ask for our orders. And I know she can be nice because of how she received the guests at the next table. And they left after looking at the menu. Our meal was $22 per person without alcohol. We ordered a burger and an omelette. Second, bad options for a child menu and you will pay freaking $14 per meal. When we choose the pasta and butter, I thought it will taste great because of the great restaurant atmosphere. Plus, I'm not going to pay $14 for chicken nuggets, french toast and omelette. Anyways, the pasta was BLAND. I asked for a well done sirloin burger but it had a burnt taste. Horrible. Third, Yelp said it was 2 star restaurant.I think this place is a 3 star. Maybe YELP need to adjust their price point for stars. Tricky tricky tricky. By the time we were in there hungry with a toddler. The least we expect is customer service and good food. I have been to this restaurant few times now. The food is pretty good ,ambiance is cozy and the place gets filled up. BUT watch out for their prix-fixe menu. Their prix fixe is 34.95 but each dish has + sign with a number next to the dish which means they will charge you additional dollars if you order that particular dish. It was dark and i must missed out on the + signs. When I got the check for close to $300, I was little confused and asked waiter about it. Not only He explained to me with a RUDE altitude, he scolded me that they don't trick and over charge their customers. I never accused him for tricking or overcharging. I just simply wanted to know about my bill. The waiter's attitude is not acceptable... I don't think he know that he is in service business.. but I still left him 20% tip because I didn't want to duck down to his level. He embarrassed me front of people and I was very upset. Ordered hot tea and tea was served luke warm. Valet parking attendant retrieved our car and just handed the keys over. Eh. Early evening. Really nice ambiance but noisy. There was a musician playing guitar and singing to which no one was listening adding to the acoustically challenged environment. Service was good. Neither over nor under attentive. Manhattan-ly close tables and prices. Had the scallops / shrimp dish. The 4 small scallops were tasteless except for the salt but the two shrimps were good. Overall a bland 30$ometimg salty dish along with a small basic 10$ salad. Limited menu. Vegetarians and vegans, nothing on the menu for you. Thyme is a decent restaurant. Like a few places in this area, it feels a bit dated and snob-weary, having served the wealthy of northern Nassau Country for many years. The menu also feels a bit generic and dated. However, while I felt there were moments when things threatened to fall into bad hotel food territory, by and large the dishes that came out were very pleasing and had a lot of flavor. I started with the baked brie, which was an uninspired mistake, just as you could imagine a dish like that being. I also tried the crab cake and duck salad, which where better. For entree, I made a better choice with the grilled salmon, which was very tasty, as was the duck breast and homemade cavatelli. The seafood paella, on the other hand, was a bit bland featured overcooked seafood. I've read other reviews suggesting Thyme might be hit-and-miss and that was my experience as well. I've also read about people complaining about the management here, but I had zero problems with management or service. And let's be honest, the standard clientele who often go to a place like this are exactly the kind of people who post one star reviews because they think the waiter looked at them funny, so I'd take it with a grain of salt. If you're in the area, and need a not-crazy-expensive option for dinner, this is a good one. read more

Yes, this place is noisy, but the service and food are great. My husband and I ate there Tuesday evening, November 10, 2015. I had made a reservation for 8:30 (kitchen closes at 9) because we were going to dine after the 5:30 movie next door. Well, we got out of the movie at 7:07 and walked into a not-too-crowded Thyme and the hostess said, "No, problem. Let me just see if there's a table." Which, of course, there was and we were seated immediately. We decided on the Prix Fixe Autumn dinner. DH had mussels, lamb shank and banana-bread pudding. I had butternut squash soup, homemade pappardelle with braised short ribs and custard cream. I had a glass of house Cabernet. Water glasses constantly refilled. Warm rolls served very promptly. Plates were hot or cold, depending on the items served on them. Wait staff were pleasant, quick, polite and very helpful. I recommend this place, but it is noisy. Two tables of 6-or-so guests (1 celebrating a birthday) were seated, along with 3 duces, one table of 5 older-folks who didn't seem to be chatting loudly. There's a room at the top of the stairs (banos up there) which was unoccupied, but might be a bit quieter, but the noise does travel up there--and there was no one at the bar, which is directly under that upstairs nook. I've been to Thyme several times, but felt compelled to write a review after our last visit this past weekend. We (party of 6) were seated promptly - and were given just the right amount of time to socialize before we ordered. I'd ordered a Tito's and club at the bar, but when I sat down at the table to drink it, it was tonic (blech). I joked with out waiter, Tito about being a pain in the neck and he happily took it back to exchange it for the right drink. Later, when ordering, I asked which fish he'd recommend, the monkfish (which I'd never tried) or halibut. He asked a question or two, then suggested the monkfish. Long story short, I hated it (just wasn't my type of taste or texture) and when he noticed I wasn't eating it, rather than walk away when I said I didn't need to send it back - he insisted on taking it back and bringing me the halibut. It's a little thing, I know, but his attentiveness and genuine interest in all of us enjoying our meal really stood out. Everyone loved their food, from appetizer to entree -- no one rated the meal less than a 10. Thyme is a sweet, simply elegant restaurant in what appears to be an historic home right in the center of the adorable town of Roslyn. We had a great time, a phenomenal meal, and can't say enough about our server, Tito. EXCELLENT choice. After having lived in Roslyn a for a year a few years back, I found Thyme to be the most consistent out of all the restaurants in the 5 mile radius. Happy to see it continues to be. read more

Mother's Day disaster!!! Would have left 0 or negative stars if possible...but Yelp requires you to give one star in order to leave a review. The owner was completely incompetent, argumentative, unapologetic and flat out rude to a party with a handicapped guest. They walked us over to our table for 6, though it was really only a table for 4 (trying to squeeze 6 people at a table that clearly couldn't accommodate them). This would have been fine, except our reservation was for 7. The reservation was made and the owner insists it was for one less person than it actually was. Not only did she make a mistake, she proceeded to argue with us publicly, insisting it was our mistake. She refused to come up with an alternative solution unless we forced the handicapped guest with us to walk up a long and narrow staircase, which she was physically not able to do. Made us all feel horrible and uncomfortable to the point that we had to leave without eating. Absolutely HORRIBLE service. (Can't tell you about the food because we didn't get to eat anything). My wife really likes it here. Nice view of Roslyn Duck Pond, good atmosphere and a very nice meal. I had the tuna as my app, very good. My wife had the mussels, also very good. Her dinner was the pre-fix ($25 app, entree and a dessert) grilled Mahi-Mahi, and was excellent. I had a salad, not sure why but i wasn't that hungry. What can i say it was a salad. Nice place for dinner, good if you have older kids but not really for young kids. They also have a room upstairs and a few outdoor tables on the deck. read more

Food is good, but... the Servers are totally unprofessional and obviously poorly trained. They walk up to the table and bust into your conversation interrupting the person talking in mid sentence. A well trained Server will walk up to the table, pause and wait 10 seconds or so to be acknowledged, or at least let the person finish their sentence before busting in with questions. This happened on four different times during the night with two different Servers. Annoying, disrespectful and not what I expect after dropping well over $400 for two couples dinners. In addition, it was pouring out and the Car Valet guys were dressed in full rubber rain gear from head to toe and standing directly in the pouring rain. They could have stood under the overhang of the building, but no the idiots were standing out in a monsoon. The significance is that when I opened the door of my two day old $60,000 car the Drives side looked like someone threw a bucket of water all over it. The brown leather seat was drenched, dash and center console was drenched. I had no choice, but to get in and soon my suit was drenched as well. They also place your Car's key fob on the Drivers side front tire after parking your car. The car fob is then exposed to the rain and elements the entire time you are there. My new car operates by taking in entire key fob and inserting it into the dashboard slot. The soaked key fob placed water inside the dashboard of my new car risking both shorting out the dashboard of this very expensive car or it's total electrical system. I WILL NEVER BE BACK! They really blew and will never see a dime more from me. read more

They say "live life with without regret", however making the decision to take my new in laws and family to Thyme for the first time on Mothers day was one mistake that I will forever regret, nor forget. Although the food was decent and the view is nice, service to me is EVERYTHING, and when that is poor it ruins the entire experience. Upon arriving, we not greeted. The Mothers at the table were not even wished a Happy Mothers Day, let alone even greeted with a "hello, How are you?". Everyone in that place looked miserable and unhappy. The water glasses were disgusting and when asked to get new glasses, the request was ignored. After 15 minutes of waiting, we finally placed our order, our drink order that is. Funny, because when I called to let them know we were running late for our reservation the hostess STRESSED to me that the kitchen was closing and as soon as we sat we had to order ASAP or we couldn't order brunch. We had asked for more bread to the table and they "ran out". Our first round of drinks were ordered and continued to sit empty half way through our meal before I finally got up and asked to speak to the manager (the same gentlemen that brought someone else's food to our table). I was very unhappy with the way we were being treated, from the moment we sat until we were pretty much through our brunch. (p.s- they only had maybe 3 tables occupied at once, therefore there is no excuse for the oversight and lack of enthusiasm and motivation). The manager just apologized and said he would take care of it. Take care of what??? All he did was bring me new water. Thanks buddy! The least you could have done was maybe approach the Mothers at the Table and introduce yourself as the manager on duty and ask how they were doing. The way I see it, because we were 10 people, the server knew she was getting her 20% gratuity automatically included so she could careless if we were tended to or not. When getting the bill we looked at the total (assumed gratuity was included because it said so on the menu), paid the bill, and left. Not one person, including the manager said "thank you, have a nice day" or apologized for the lack of service we were given. As we were getting our cars, the manager comes outside, pulls me aside and tells me I did not leave gratuity. I said "we were a party of 10 and it states on your menu it was already included". He said "No. Because you were unhappy with the service, we took it off and wanted you to leave what you felt was appropriate." Correct me if I'm wrong, but a managers duty is to politely pull the customer aside BEFORE or DURING the time of presenting the check and inform them of such a change to the bill AND offering the customer to visit their establishment again, despite the current experience they just had. Bringing this to my attention when I have already left the building and with my family next to me is not only unprofessional but extremely embarrassing. When booking this reservation I stressed to the hostess that this is a very important day for my family and I, as my husbands family just lost their grandmother/mother and this was their first mothers day without her here. This was also the first function that I have planned for them as being a new addition to the family...and it turned out to be a disaster. So what happened? My mother n law ended up taking money out of her own pocket and paid for the gratuity, as she felt mortified that they thought we skipped out on paying it. (She refused to take money from anyone of us), the manager took the Bill and left us standing there in complete shock and disgust. Nice hidden gem nestled in the North shore. Cozy atmosphere, courteous but professional staff that make an effort to make the whole experience worthwhile. Farm-to-table dishes that are locally sourced and seasonally available. Pricing is reasonable for the care put into the food that are also appropriately sized. I was fortunate enough to be seated on the balcony overlooking the beautiful pond behind the restaurant, and listened to their live music going on inside. Explored the upstairs bathroom and discovered the whole extra area they have, that seems to be great for parties and events if you are in need of that. Lastly, while I was driving my wife did enjoy their thoughtful cocktails, their drink menu had something for everyone. Next time I go, I will be having a couple cocktails! read more

we went there for mother's day (one night earlier). we waited an hour for our food- we ordered appetizers and they never came out either. and when they came, our entrees came out about 10 later- we weren't done with the appetizers yet so there was hardly enough room on the table for our 2 appetizers and 5 entrees and drinks. it was only after we asked 2x about our food did our waiter mention that they had a party upstairs and that they were extremely busy. also, the calamari was cold when it was served..it still tasted good but I'm definitely sure that it tasted even better when if it had been served hot. it is a small sized restaurant and i understand that they were really busy that night, but they should have offered us something- like more bread (it was only a small piece in the beginning when we sat down), or a side dish, or even drinks on the house or something. we were waiting for more than an hour..we saw guests that arrived after us were already served... and there were times that it got extremely dim, way too dark for restaurant ambiance. and then 10 mins later it would get a little bright. for our 2 hr course dinner there, it happened a few times. the food for the most part tasted pretty good- just the long wait made us really hungry so we couldn't really enjoy the food when it came. we were just eating bc we were pretty hungry. Came here for brunch to celebrate my birthday with some friends. We were all very pleased with our food- I had the smoked salmon Benedict which was delicious but everything else looked fantastic too. A few of my friends had the steak and eggs and they also said it was really good. Since we were a larger party, it would've been nice to have been able to get a pitcher or something of bellinis or mimosas since the service was a little slow, but I guess it just isn't that type of place. The restaurant itself is adorable overseeing the little pond behind it- unfortunately we were not able to be seated outside because the balcony was too small. Overall, i would say we had a great experience- the service is a little slow though, understandable for a Sunday during brunch- but a little more interaction from the staff would've been appreciated. read more

Thyme is the best Restaurant in Roslyn we dined at thyme on Sunday night with 2 other couples . you just know when you walk in the door and you see the warm welcome from the hostess . Staff were very knowledgeable. They answered all our questions , one of my friend has allergy for nuts and the waiter made sure that he explained all the menu for her .recomended many dishes that doesn't have nuts . we ordered different appetizer to share . Everything was so excelnt from the apple endive salad with the cider vinaigrette to crispy calamari that was so tender . Crab cake was so good the pork chop so very moist and cooked to perfection. the crispy duck was great with the caramelized pear and spinach I ordered the chicken dish for my entree , it was so moist and tender . its just amazing Im very surprised to see some weird reviews here with low recomendation . I will recomend thyme any TIME :) thank you for the amazing dinner . I live In NYC and I will make special trips to come and dine there again . the food is way better than a lot of seafood restaurant in the city read more

Denied outdoor seating with attitude. Entered restaurant at 4:10pm, right after they opened. The place was completely empty. Told the hostess that we just wanted a drink and appetizer in the outdoor seating. She said okay, but then the bar tender/manager said "no". He said it was for dinner only. We said we would just be 30 minutes and were ordering appetizers. He said no, " that's the policy". I said that the policy they had was a " no business policy". The manager then followed us out of the restaurant to argue with us. Asking why we called him stupid, which we didn't. Bad business decisions. Poor management of an empty restaurant. read more

It was the first meal that we have had at Thyme, an intimate & warm restaurant. I wanted to support Nancy, a big supporter of women's health and a champion of choice. The staff was polite, attentive and the meal delicious. Thyme gives the impression of a well tuned staff, warm & inviting atmosphere.
