We swung by for a late lunch on a Sunday afternoon. It was fairly quiet, but lovely day. We ordered the lentil soup, vegetable mo-mo, aloo gobi, along with white rice and garlic naan to share. It was delicious. Note that they're generous with their cilantro as a garnish, which was a total plus for me but not so much for my friend. What a terrific place to enjoy Tibetan Nepalese food! The menu is broad and reasonably-priced, with dishes for omnivores and plant-based diners alike. We tried the phing, which had a light kick of spice (at a "medium" spice level), the paneer masala, veggie momo, and peshwari naan. The momo and masala were up there with my favorites of these dishes! The masala sauce is creamy and flavorful, rich enough to be great with rice or naan on its own. The peshwari naan was a little disappointing-- it was a tad dry and not as fluffy as I'm used to. Also, the naan filling was mild in flavor, and didn't stand out among the other dishes. But since everything else was so good, I'm happy to try a different naan on my next visit. The masala chai was tasty, not too strong in flavor, but the spices were cohesive, and comes in a big pot. The ambiance of this restaurant is lovely. With the super high ceilings, sound cascades upward and makes for a pleasantly calm dining experience, even when the place is pretty full of diners. Also, the natural light through the skylight makes for a beautiful daytime/afternoon meal. The artwork on the walls of Himalayan mountain hikers and large Buddha statues are charming and relaxing. We are trying some new spots as restaurants gradually reopen & found this gem in Pasadena near the park and "Electric street." We were able to sit inside, physically distanced from other tables, and within view of the thoroughfare of take out pick-ups. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal, the spices were just right and every mouthful was interesting and satisfying. The Tibetan flavors were familiar and yet unique with what seemed to me to be fresh twists on classic Indian dishes. The mango lassi was a bit bland (I like a lot of mango flavor). Happily it was sweet (not salty) which helps me manage the heat. We had the option of medium or hot spiciness and chose medium, which was perfect for me (I'm not a fan of super spicy foods). Small place, looked popular and we were craving Nepalese food so we tried it! Mango Lassi was very yummy sweet and creamy w a thick consistency! The momo was pretty good! I so wanted to like this place but the dishes were not cleaned well and I removed old food off of my fork and cup... the tikki Masala was sweet (?) to the point where I was worried they accidentally put sugar instead of salt? and the garlic naan was very dry... the server was so very nice but I just don't think the food was worth it read more

Quick note, despite what it says on the yelp page, this place opens at 11:30. The doors may be open before that but they will not take your order before 11:30. Also, the menu says there is a free parking up to 90 min but not sure if this was before covid so it might not be good today. Came with some friends after hiking, was definitely impressed with the food. We ordered the fried Tibetan bread and a garlic naan, lamb curry, yak momo dumplings, mulligatawny soup, and chicken phing (bean flour noodle), and a few mango lassis. The chicken phing was the group's favorite. The spices and flavors in it were amazing. I'm pretty sure you could add whatever meat or non-meat you want and it will still be good. The lamb curry was great too! It's a little thinner than an Indian curry in my opinion, that's not good or bad, just an observation. The two breads were good but not necessarily anything special. The mulligatawny soup was like a thinner lentil soup with a little more salt. I really enjoyed it. The Yak Momo dumplings were a bit of a disappointment. First, I didn't really taste any difference between ground yak and ground beef. There were some spices in it but it needs more salt to me. Maybe i'm just used to chinese dumplings that have a lot of flavor in the filling. It came with an orange herby kind of dipping sauce that was kind of below room temp and it didn't really have much flavor. I'm used to dipping sauces having more flavor. I'd probably not get the momo again but would get the curry and soup and phing again. I take off a star because it is a little expensive for the portion size you get and the service was a little slow (but to be fair it might be short staffed). Small restaurant with various South Asian dishes. I've came here before pre-covid a couple of times, and was always impressed by the friendly service and delicious food. They're currently open for takeout during covid, so I decided to order some takeout on a Tuesday night via their website. The yak momos were a favorite of mine, and though the meat itself is a bit dryer than your typical beef, it's flavorful. There's 8 in an order, and the momos are accompanied by a creamy spiced (not spicy) sauce. My sister and I split a non-vegetable thali as our entree. We chose the chicken masala (sweeter than your typical masala and super creamy) and enjoyed the curried, garlicky cauliflower, lentil soup, basmati rice, and naan that it came with. They didn't give us utensils, so if you're planning on eating your food in a park or something, you'll need to bring your own. Paid street parking is available and might be hard to get on a weekend. If you're going to be in the area for a while, I'd suggest parking in a garage and paying $6. There's plenty of vegetarian options available. Bathrooms aren't open to the public during covid. Overall, I can't wait until the place is actually open for dine-in, but takeout does suffice for the present. read more

This is the best place for flavorful, authentic, quality food. My mouth waters any time I think of any of the dishes I've tried there. It's easy to drive an hour from the SFV just to come for the deliciousness. All the servers and staff are so kind and helpful and it feels like a great family environment. Tucked away on a quiet and unassuming side street in Pasadena is this hidden (to us at least) gem. From the food to the service, Tibet Nepal House was a wonderful surprise and treat. We thoroughly enjoyed the pickled potato salad (um, potatoes AND pickles?!) and vegetable thali, which featured a variety of excellent dishes. The only so-so flavors were from the vegetable momos; those weren't up to par compared with others we've had elsewhere. The food aside, the owner deserves five stars, not only for his kindness but also for his generosity and time. A good friend is from Nepal (and moved back there years ago). I mentioned this to the owner and asked if he'd mind writing a quick note, in Nepalese, on my behalf to my friend. The owner went above and beyond and wrote a touching letter that conveyed to my friend how my wife and I wished he were still here and how we hoped to see him and his family soon. And they say customer service is dead. Well not here! While we don't live around the corner from Tibet Nepal House we know it'll be our go-to joint whenever we're in Pasadena. read more

Okay I'll start off with the aesthetic. They had a lot of cultural art, statues, and images of gods. I don't know much about Nepalese culture but my eyes were curious and I wandered around the wall decor. Food Garlic naan: 4/10 sadly, the garlic naan completely lacked flavor, it just tasted like plain naan but without any salt. Rice: other restaurant give you complimentary rice when you order an entree but not this place. Chicken tikka masala: 7/10 okay I'm used to a very savory masala sauce, and the waiter prefaced that this sauce was sweet but I didn't expect the flavor! It tasted like tomato basil soup with a hint of honey. I know that may sound weird but the flavor grew on me and I enjoyed it more than I thought. Chicken vindaloo: 8/10 very delicious but not as spicy as typical vindaloo which was great because I can't handle spicy food. It's a quaint restaurant on the quieter side of Old Pasadena, but it still gets a decent amount of business. We didn't have a hard time getting a table for 6. The inside is decorated with Nepal things so it was a cool ambiance. Sampling Platter ($12) - this was the perfect size to share between 2 people. My favorite part of the platter was potato pickle. The chicken was a little on the drier side but the sauce did help. Yak Momo ($11) - comes with about 8 momos. We split amongst 3 people and it was enough to get a taste. Honestly, the taste of yak was nothing spectacular and memorable. The momos did get cold pretty fast though. Thali lamb Curry ($19) - this was such a good deal since it came with a lot of things. You get the curry as well as rice, naan, and lentils and this other soup thing. At the end, they also give you a cup of tea. The curry was actually really good and was on par with chicken tikka masala taste wise. Large portion size - I was stuffed by the end. Would definitely come back for the Thali and definitely worth a visit just to try Nepal food. It was very similar to Indian food. read more
