I love Tico's! I've been here twice and it took my breath away both times. The drive from Monterey is a little far, but it's worth the miles if you love eggs benedict. The hollandaise sauce at this cafe achieved the perfect balanced between lemony and buttery all while melding perfectly with the ham and spinach--I ordered the original benedict and mixed it with the eggs florentine at no extra charge. We asked for a recommendation for breakfast, and our hotel suggested Tico's. When you first walk in, the first thing you're going to think is that this place is a dive, let's run away. But the food was fantastic! My husband ordered a chorizo omelet, and he went on an on about how delicious it was. I'm not a fan of chorizo, but I was pleased that it didn't look greasy at all. I ordered the scrambled special, with artichoke hearts and sun-dried tomatoes. When this dish was first brought to me, I admit that almost sent it back. It did not look appetizing at all! The eggs were brown (I'm guessing they were colored from the tomatoes and artichokes). But I gave it a shot and it was delicious! Don't let the looks of this fool you, it was so tasty! The potatoes were well cooked, the coffee was fresh, and the staff was attentive. We will definitely go back to Tico's the next time we're in Marina! read more

We tried Tico's based on yelp reviews and ordered the traditional Eggs Benedict and the Florentine version. I'm happy to say that they have mastered the Benedict. The eggs were perfectly poached and the hollandaise sauce was tasty and had a hint of lemon. Two other tables remarked that the Benedicts were awesome. One said it was the best in the world! Try their home made pepper sauces (hot and garlic). The staff is very friendly. There are about nine tables inside and a few outside. There was also a large TV in the dining room. read more

My absolute favorite for breakfast. They also have good burgers. The eggs benedict is a go to favorite, comes with these potatoes that are perfectly cooked with seasoning. I recommed checking the specials board some times they feature omelets that are normally made. The chorizo omelet being one of them. Sometimes they have banana chocolate chip pancakes. If I could give zero stars I would. We arrived at 10:20 am we were not acknowledged. We walked inside stood for about 3 minutes, went back outside. We asked the girl cleaning the table if we could sit outside, she said yes, but she took her to clean then told us to sit at that table. Once we sat down we waited and waited to order our drinks. We stopped the girl and ask if we can order drinks. She took the order of drinks and left. 45 minutes had gone by before we could order our food. we put in our order and waited for our food to come out by this point no one-stop by to ask if we need anything or even to refill our coffee. We debated on leaving and just paying for our drinks. 20 minute went by then the food arrived; we asked for refills while we were eating (we found out that our server was also the cook and that the other two woman were hostess and busier with very few communication skills) once done with our food it took them 10 mints to bring out the bill and 20 minutes to take our payment. I do NOT recommend unless you have the time to wait and the energy to feel not welcomed. 12:20 the time we left this place and it was not even busy. read more

My family and I love eating here. Each plate of food we order is outstandingly delicious! They always make my daughters pancakes with a smile or something cute for her. Great cozy ambiance with a few outdoor seats as well. It was raining so we sat inside. We were greeted right away. Hollandaise was excellent and definitely made from scratch. My mom ordered homemade sausage, scrambled eggs and fritters plate. She enjoyed it very much and we both had to go boxes. Disappointed this time around with Tico's. Usually they're great with customer service and both greet and seat you when you arrive. "Usually". We arrived and waited to be seated only to wait 10-15 minutes before we decided to leave. Tables were open but the servers failed to even acknowledge we were there. A simple "we'll be right with you" would of sufficed anyone, but as the servers passed us back and fourth we realized that wasn't going to happen. If they want customers to seat themselves, please place a sign up so we aren't standing around like idiots. read more

Far & away the best place of its kind in the vicinity. Tico's reminds me of myself: they're passionate about what they do, they seem out of place here (sniff), they value diverse high-quality food, and they're easily intimidated by attractive women (wait, last one's more me than Tico's). They're also reasonably priced for what you get, again just like me. Been here 6 times, but ate here only thrice (more on that later). 1st time they surpassed all expectations & held the bar each subsequent visit. Here's what I've tried too date: Grilled Marinated Lamb - sooo succulent, tasted like American lamb rather than the more pungent gamy New Zealand variety. 1 chum thinks they have a deal w/ the devil, since even when the lamb looks overcooked it's still so tasty. Comes w/ 2 eggs, potatoes & toast. Smoked Salmon Hash - quite savory (I'm a huge fan of smoked salmon & creative culinary uses of it). Comes w/ potatoes & toast. Baby Artichoke Heart Crepes - subtle delicious flavor, perfect as a side or appetizer. Comes w/ toast (which seemed kinda random for this dish). Artichoke Heart w/ Roasted Pepper Frittata/omlette - exceptionally well balanced flavors & perfectly prepared. Comes w/ P & T. Dessert-wise I've only tried the creme brule (not the best but certainly not sub-par) & the lemon-drop tart (everything I hoped for and so much more). Meal portions are adequate, you'll be full but wont need that extra pair of loose-fitting pants. Prices are reasonable, though I'd say exceptional considering the quality & menu options (sadly they do appear to be rising). The menu can change week-to-week, & weekday specials may differ from weekends (Sunday menu is the most diverse). However, if you crave something, just ask the super-friendly staff person & you may well get what you want (always better than getting what you deserve, right). The place has a homey atmosphere, fine for business or romance (it's well-lit due to operating hours, so more of a picnicy rather than a dim-lights soft-music kind of romantic). Don't expect a view, though eating outside is pleasant depending on the wind. Parking is ample due to both location & the fact that few people seem to know about them yet. I just hope Tico's survives. Frankly, it may be a bit too good for the area's customer base (we're used to paying so much more for so much less). But your palate will thank you if you give them a try. If this world based its rewards purely on merit, this place would thrive rather than just survive. Why I can't give Tico's 5 stars: Though Tico's is a stellar eatery & I recommend them to all my friends (that'd mean more if I could find some friends. Dont think Mom counts, despite the fact that I took her to prom - settle down, nothing happened afterward, or not w/ me anyway), they do have operating-hour issues. They've been closed 3 outa 6 times I've gone. I forgive them for 1 (closed on Mondays), but the other 2 times they just plain done me wrong. Both times I called that day to confirm their hours (they always state a 3pm closing time). Both times I was there by 2 pm. Yet both times I found myself w/ face pressed against glass peering at a stark 'closed' sign that's even colder than a witch's left teet. To make matters worse, the 1st time was my Mom's birthday (thank you Tico's for giving her 1 more reason to be disappointed in me) & the other time I was on a date (no, not w/ Mom ... though I always bring her along for some odd reason). Anyway, Tico's needs to get it together w/ those operating hours or at least be more forthcoming when I call ahead. If I wanted to be lied to over the phone, I'd just call the GF & ask her to tell me how good I am in bed. read more

Had a terrific breakfast this morning. My girlfriend mentioned this place but neither had been before. So amazing. I love the family owned feel and I got the special which was a crab cake eggs Benedict and I can't tell you enough how good it was. I was full all day. Comes with perfectly seasoned potatoes and I love any place that has The Pepper Plant. Can't say enough nice things about this place. Will return absolutely. read more

After eating breakfast at various Denny's we opted to somewhere else. This place had good fresh strawberry topped pancakes served with real butter and real maple syrup. My husband didn't like them as much as I did saying their pancakes weren't as fluffy as they advertised. He also thought they were pricey. We went there today on a recommendation from a friend and a look at the Yelp reviews. It was a little hard to find; drove right past the strip mall it is in. Nothing special from the outside but cute and clean inside. It was almost full when we arrived. Got seated right away but menus took about 5 minutes before they came. No offer of coffee or 'something to drink?'. We waited at least another ten minutes before we were asked for our order. My wife ordered a Mexican omelet 'extra spicy' and I ordered the Big Breakfast with homemade sausage. The meal was another fifteen minutes from order to delivery. There were four people waiting tables and two more we could see in the kitchen. Service was spotty and slow. Had to flag down a waitress to get coffee refills twice. The food came and they were big servings. My wife really enjoyed her omelet; they had put jalapeños in it. My 'homemade' sausage was two small, over cooked patties that were pretty tasteless. My 'eggs over medium' had never been flipped. They had been covered with a lid and cooked closer to hard. I hate it when the cook doesn't flip the eggs. They don't taste as good. Overall, for me, a mediocre experience. My wife said four stars but I'm writing this and my eggs and sausage were only OK. Not sure if I'd go back. It is a long drive from Carmel Valley to Marina for what I had. read more

They messed both of my kids' orders were with (bigger, more expensive meal than I had ordered them), my husband ordered a side of bacon that never came, he said the French toast looked good but tasted bland. This is by far the best breakfast spot in Marina and maybe Monterey. The only issue I have is that they are not always open according to their hours. There has been 3 times now that I have shown up in the morning during their posted hours and they were closed. Besides that, the service is outstanding.
