Taro rolls -- (free) and delicious!!!
    April S.

This was a beautiful place to eat! The service was great and the food was good. The taro rolls were my favorite part! For our food we got the Hawaiian catch, the macadamia crusted mahi, and two kids meals. They were all yummy. I think what keeps it from 5 stars is the extremely high price tag. I think you are paying the premium for the resort and the atmosphere, which is fine, but the food itself is not worth the very steep price tag (around $65+ for an entree and $20 for cocktail). For a family of five, you could easily spend $400. This was a nice one time meal but we wouldn't go back due to the price tag and the food not up to what it costs. Because of the price, I would caution families to look at the menu ahead of time before dining. You can find the same/better food off resort without the resort price tag.

The ambiance wasn't as beautiful as their website pictures show. It was very misleading. The Mai Tai's were the very best we had over our 9 day trip. Not too sweet and a good pour! The service was very good. The rolls that people rave about were not close to what people stated. They were average at best. We split the rib eye dinner which was the worst we have ever had. The Malasadas donuts for desert were the best part of the meal. So delicious!!! If you want a great place with ambiance and great food go to Duke's. For Tidepools, I would only go back for the Mai Tai's.

Thought I was still gonna be hungry but Tidepools surprised me! Ambiance was quite serene. Ultimate Hawaii experience as we had the ocean (not as close) on one side and large koi splashing in a pond on the other. Service was exceptional :) Appetizer: Scallops 10/10 Mains: - macadamia crusted mahi mahi: 9/10 - could've definitely used more acidity. Had to ask for a lemon! - Hawaiian catch: 10/10 Drinks: 10/10

We came here twice on our family vacation to Kauai. We weren't staying at the Grand Hyatt, but our rental house was a short walk away. Our first time here was a date night for my wife and I. We had a 5:30 reservation. We arrived early and ordered some drinks at the bar. I got their Aloha Old Fashioned which is an Old Fashioned with a tropical twist and my wife had a Raspberry Lemondrop. The drinks were great. The ambiance of this place is top notch. All open air underneath tropical hut type structure with water all around and resort views. It's perfect. Food wise we split a Scallops appetizer. Very Good. For our entree we split a steak (filet), shrimp, and lobster combination. The food was excellent. Steak was cooked perfectly, and had a compound butter/red wine demi. We split items as we wanted to save room for dessert. My wife usually is limited in choices because she can'thave gluten, but they had a number of items on the dessert menu marked gluten free. We ordered the Coconut Cream Cheesecake and the Molten Chocolate Cake. Both were amazing. They also had a Macadamia Nut Creme Brulee marked gluten free as well. Great Job having those options. Our second visit was just for dessert and drinks with our kids as we wanted to bring our kids because two of them also can't have gluten, so we wanted to let them enjoy all the gluten free desserts. Our service on both nights was perfect. Price Wise definitely expensive but not as bad as some high-end steakhouses in other places I've been too. Only 26 dollars to add lobster to your steak in a place like this seems like a major win. Great experience and I would definitely return the next time I'm in Kauai.

This place reminds me Ruinas Del Mar at HR Aruba from the koi ponds and great view into the resort. Awesome Ambience and decor. Loved it. They also have a large bar with tables to dine as another option if you didn't have any reservations. Our waiter was fine and his assistant sure stopped by a lot to refill waters, pick up dirty plates, and replaced the table light, when it went out. The food was really good and their ube bread was to die for. We had to try their galbi and the quality of meat was so good and flavorful. I had their spicy fish, Togarashi spiced Opah, and boy was it spicy!!! I think our waiter put down extra spicy in the receipt. Ugh. This the four star rating. My wife's dish, Hawaiian catch, was stellar. We were too full to eat dessert.

Amazing atmosphere- absolutely beautiful and romantic- it's in the Grand Hyatt Resort which is where we stayed. This restaurant is one of the best places to eat while on the south side of Kauai. The service is outstanding, prompt and very well versed in their food suggestions. We had the crab cakes- mostly crab and the best I've ever eaten anywhere including Monterey and Carmel in CA. The entree Hawaiian Catch was superb- a combination of shrimp, scallop, lobster, and white fish on a bed of sweet potato and asparagus. It was outstanding. My husband had the rib eye steak- another outstanding delicious dish. Overall, a definite "do" while experiencing an exciting enticing place to remember. A must!

Amazing service and delicious food! Came for late birthday dinner with the fam and had a great time. The taro rolls were great, I inhaled 2 right when they got to the table. We did family style and got the lamb chops and scallops for apps, both were finished within minutes. Got the Hawaiian catch, opah, and ribeye all cooked to perfection and seasoned perfectly. For dessert, we got a nice plate of malasadas, chocolate lava cake, and ice cream with the fixings as a birthday treat. Thank you so much to our waiter! I'd definitely come back when on the island. Everyone was very friendly and the atmosphere was so laidback and relaxed. If you dine there, you do get validated parking*

Came here for dinner and it was excellent! As we were waiting to be seated, I saw a pan of delicious looking SOMETHING sitting right outside the kitchen window, and was immediately intrigued. Turns out, it is their complimentary bread. Those ube Parmesan rolls are to die for. When a basket came while we were still perusing the menu, I ached to blast through five baskets of it and really had to hold myself back because otherwise how would I eat anything off the actual menu?? But really, warm, soft bread -- amazing. Review would have been 4 stars, but the bread garners an extra star. I ordered the Hawaiian Catch which apparently is their most popular dish. It includes a sampling of grilled seafood--a jumbo shrimp, scallop, lobster tail, and daily fish (it was swordfish, but I couldn't eat it due to pregnancy so they substituted with mahi mahi for me). This is over purple sweet potato and broccolini. It was delicious! Very much enjoyed being able to try multiple different seafood items. The fish was not as tender as I'd like, but everything else was good. The sweet potato and broccolini were good sides to the seafood--both yummy and not too salty. Their dessert options looked so good, but I was totally stuffed and couldn't try any.

We were a party of six for dinner on vacation here for 10 days. We've eaten dinner out every night. This was our second dinner at T.P. Seating was smooth, our drinks arrived quickly, with appetizers, everyone enjoyed that with the bread rolls. My first trip i ordered the the seafood catch, the second time I ordered the pasta with scallops and shrimp. Both dishes were good, cooked perfectly all very good but nothing to get excited about. All said, great experience, good food, we'll definitely be back.

We just had our favorite meal of the trip at Tidepools--and honestly, it may have been one of the best dining experiences we've ever had. Every dish we ordered was absolutely delicious, and the ambiance is stunning--nestled beside a peaceful koi pond with that perfect blend of elegance and island charm. The service was truly top-notch. Our server was attentive without ever being intrusive. My water glass never dropped below half-full--he must've come by at least five times during our two-hour dinner, always with a friendly attitude and genuine hospitality. It made us feel so well cared for. This was our first time visiting Kauai, and our dinner at Tidepools will absolutely be one of the memories we carry with us. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a special night out!

I was very impressed with Tidepools. The setting is very pretty and the service was on point. We were celebrating a milestone birthday and reserved table #42 which has a separate area over the pond. This is the most requested table, it accommodates up to 6 people and has a $450 food and beverage minimum. Everything we ordered was fresh, well prepared, beautifully presented and flavorful. The bread they give you at the start of the meal is to die for! I personally loved the Hawaiian Catch, the scallops and the Hamachi. They brought a chocolate cake with ice cream for the birthday person and it was absolutely delicious! It is a splurge experience for sure but worth it.

We had dinner reservations for our anniversary here & it was amazing. First of all, the Grand Hyatt on its own is gorgeous. It was nice to walk off dinner by checking out the property. The complimentary garlic taro rolls were soft & tasty. For starters, we got the hamachi sashimi which was good. The Hawaiian catch was amazing, came with lobster, shrimp & a scallop. Plenty of food & their purple sweet potato mash was great. Service was great from start to finish. It was sweet of them to give us dessert for our anniversary, the molten lava cake was delicious. Loved the ice cream with it.

    Fried chicken
    Joann C.

I believe the high ratings are for the ambiance and service, food wise it was average. Some of the dishes did not merit the price point. Ribeye was not tender, the vegetarian pad thai had no flavors, but surprisingly the standout was the fried chicken dish. I know, who would spend $50 on fried chicken, but it was super juicy and flavorful. If you want tasty flavorful dishes go try Eating House 1849 instead.

    Ask the Community - Tidepools

Is there a kids menu at Tidepools?

Yes they have a kids menu at Tidepools.

My husband packed great shirts but managed not to forget shorts 🤦🏻‍♀️ and my reservation is Thursday, do I need to cancel?

I went in shorts and a shirt. No problem

We will be celebrating an anniversary and want to bring our favorite wine as the 1st bottle. What is the corkage fee? Thank you.

    $35 up to 2nd

    Is there a dress code?

    Smart casual.

Can I bring in a small outside cake for our wedding dinner reception of 9 people? If yes, will there be a fee to cut or can we cut and serve ourselves?

Aloha Vangie, no, we do not allow outside cakes. Our pastry team would be happy to make something for you. If you can please email infokauai@hyatt.com I can email you the cake book & form. Aloha.

I called to change my reservation and left a message.. no one has called me back. Celebrating an anniversary and special occasion?

Hi, please email me the desired changes for your reservation & I will ensure it gets to the manager and hopefully we can fulfill the request. Email infokauai@hyatt.com. Mahalo.

I want to take my girlfriend here on October 2, 2021. can i walk-in or do I need to make a reservation?

Reservations absolutely recommended and safest. Their bar area is "first come" but relatively small. You can also get lucky and walk-in and benefit from a no show - that worked for my family. But, I wouldn't count on it. Good luck.

Just had my reservation auto-changed from 5:45 to 7:45 and to a day sooner. Does this happen often and is it worth the hassle?

Hi Becky N., I am not aware of this ever happening. Can you please reach out to me at infokauai@hyatt.com so that I can get more info and look into it. Mahalo.

What are the happy hour hours and what are the deals? Thank you

29% off drinks & 1/2 off select apps - it was really good!

The chicken had a nice flavor and was nice and hot when it was served. The food was good, but not worth waiting over an hour in my opinion. You can make your own judgments, depending on how much time you have. We stopped by Leong's in Coconut Marketplace on a Sunday, which may have had something to do with the service. Plus, Kauai is a very small island and I was not expecting big city service speeds. However, it did take over an hour for us to get our food. That seems long, even for a small restaurant on a small island. We got to the restaurant and had to wait about 10 minutes for a table; not an issue. Once we got seated, we got water and coffee very quickly; not an issue. But when a large table (that was seated since we got to the restaurant) got their food after we had been waiting for 30 minutes, we started to get a little worried. The whole restaurant experience lasted about an hour and a half, and only about 20 minutes of that was eating. There were only two human waitstaff (and one robot which seemed kind of cool but mostly like an inconvenience to the workers), so I can understand somewhat. We also may have felt more pressured because we had to be somewhere after lunch.

Request a table near the windows for a sunset view. We arrived and were greeted and seated immediately. Shortly afterwards we were served complementary spicy edamame. We ordered three appetizers to share. Brussel Sprouts & Cauliflower, Black Garlic & Yuzu Ahi Tartar and Vietnamese Style Sashimi. The Brussel Sprouts & Cauliflower was excellent, golden raisins and pine nuts add sweetness and texture, balsamic vinegar counters with wonderful acid contrast. The Black Garlic & Yuzu Ahi Tartar is simply fabulous, one of the best bites I have ever had. I first had this dish two years ago when it was introduced as a new dish in a prefix meal. On that trip we returned to enjoy the dish once again. Had it again last year as I travel to Kauai each year. I'm happy to see it is still on the menu! Our third dish was the Vietnamese Style Sashimi and it was okay, although a bit underwhelming for Eating House standards. It was fresh but lack the complexity that I have grown to expect from this restaurant. We requested some wasabi and it helped with the flavors. My thinking is the jalapeño oil should have been more concentrated or pronounced. To be clear I did not complain, regardless the dish was removed from our bill. Very nice. Thank you. The front desk staff guided me to the elevator. This trip was for my birthday. In every reservation when asked about a special occasion, I put birthday. This was the first restaurant to acknowledge my special day. The check-in staff wished me well as did the server. We had been to several restaurants prior to Eating House that didn't say a word. Kudos to the staff for its kindness. The restaurant is open air and very comfortable. It has a rustic feel. We were seated by the window on a cool, rainy night but were perfectly dry the whole evening. On top of that, our server was very helpful in guiding us to order the right amount of food. He brought us a serving of edamame which is always on the house. The shrimp & pork potstickers were very good. I had the ramen which was tasty, filling and a great choice. Our server was terrific to put the spicy oil on the side which made it easier for me to eat. My husband had the butterfish which is the best I have ever tasted. It is a signature dish and always a pleaser. The only real downside is the limited menu. We were told that because of a staff shortage, it wasn't the typical menu. This was disappointing. But they did have the best of the Roy's dishes. So far, it has been the best experience that we have had in Poipu.

It was well cooked, but there was very little meat on all of the bones. And also needed a sauce of some kind. The one baby bok choy was a nice addition. No one wanted to return them, but they really were not very good. The second time I ordered the grilled seafood bowl because that night they were offering Oppa as the grilled fish on the kebabs/skewers that were served on top of the bowl the seafood was cooked, absolutely perfectly, and it had pickled cucumbers, pickled red onions, slightly cooked carrots, and then regular cucumbers on top of lightly dressed soba noodles.
