This place is a straight scam. Renters beware! I was shown a unit, completed an application online were I provided sensitive information and never heard back. I followed up with Zillow messages, phone calls, emails and voicemails and nothing. (And before you think my application was bad my... lol. My credit is over 775) But to not get a response is wow! They are also super quick responding to any maintenance requests. I've kept the studio in decent condition and got the deposit back shortly after moving out. Please do not rent one of their properties. They promised to clean our place before we moved in multiple times, and it clearly was not cleaned. We had to do a deep clean of the entire place, every corner, because it looked like no one had cleaned the place a single time in years. When the cleaner finally came, we noticed they were intentionally missing dirty spots when we weren't looking. I'm not trying to rate the lazy cleaner here - the management company just didn't bother scheduling one in the first place until after we called repeatedly on the move in day, even though we repeatedly requested it to be cleaned BEFORE we arrived. It was obvious that nothing had changed since the first time we viewed the place. They had a month to schedule a cleaning, and not only were they unable to fulfill that simple promise - they outright lied about it. It was too dirty to even move our stuff in so we were stuck with way too many things at the entrance and in the vehicle. read more

We lived in one of the apartment for 10 plus years, which was managed by Tierney and company in Sunnyvale . They are highly professional ,whenever we asked for any maintenance issue, we always got it fixed within 24 hrs. Many times they also immediately replied even after hrs! Tierney and Co. took ownership of the property we lived in a while back and they were great! They took care of any reported issues swiftly and were always glad to assist with any questions I might have. My wife and I moved out of the apartment after 11 years and while we were happy to move into our new home we do miss the convenience that they provided us while living there. One final note: While we lived there, they didn't raise the rent a tremendous amount like other landlords. Not sure if that is the case for all of their tenants, but it certainly made our stay better! read more

*9 YEAR UPDATE* Well, after 9 years in the Bay Area, it was time for our growing family to move on. We honestly had a great relationship with Gina and Kevin from Tierney over the years. We tried not to bother them with the little things, but when big problems came up (as they do from time to time in a house), Tierney was always happy to help. When the popcorn ceiling was coming down, they took care of us and got it sorted quickly. When the heater broke, their team came quickly to fit in a replacement. Same with the falling fence. They always came fast which was important especially with little kids in the house. Our move out process was efficient and we received back our full security deposit which was appreciated since we did our best to clean the house before departing. All in all, I have to say that they made us feel at home in our rental house of 9 years. THANK YOU! We will greatly miss living there. read more

Usually, when people leave reviews, it's because they're unhappy with the service or goods. In this case, my experience has been so consistently good for so many years I wanted to share. Tierney and Company's property management division is top notch. There was a leak on the roof and when I came back from the holidays the floor was flooded. Amazingly, they were able to summons roofers immediately that fixed the leak. They also replaced my damaged floor which now looks wonderful. The building I'm living in is older and therefor requires constant maintenance. They manage many properties but make me feel like this property is getting individual attention. Economies of scale. This allows them to have priority access to a wide variety of maintenance specialists. Repairs are performed quickly and economically as Tierney Company is their most important customer. Their extensive Rolodex of professionals can save owners thousands on repairs. They allow me to have input into decisions involving the interior of my unit when possible. They're fiscally responsible with the owner's money while having a genuine desire for my happiness. They have a 24-hour emergency number but I try and not abuse it. They're always friendly and professional. In the past, I've seen tenants demand that the property manager replace such things as indoor light bulbs etc. This is just an example of the unrealistic expectations that some tenants can have. Ideally, tenants should take pride and assist in the way the property appears. My fellow tenants are of top quality and I attribute that to their careful screening of the prospective residents. So, whether you're a prospective tenant or property owner I can highly recommend Tierney and Company. I would NOT RECCOMMEND renting from this company. They wanted us to send them a security deposit before reviewing the lease and with only vague emails to offer us any protection. This is a questionable business tactic that prevents potential tenants from being able to negotiate or protect themselves from ridiculous clauses like: the renter will be responsible for water damage regardless of cause, i.e. act of nature; or that the renter will be responsible for the costs of maintenance/repair for appliances; or that consent to have a pet could be revoked at any time. We are relieved that we stood our ground in requesting a preview of the lease document before sending them any money. They were unresponsive to all but one of our requests for changes to the document and I am glad we figured out in advance how they operate. I've rented a 1-BR in Sunnyvale from Tierney & Co. for the last 3 years. I'm moving out because I purchased a place, but I had nothing but good experiences with Tierney while I was renting. They were always extremely responsive whenever there was an issue, even on weekends. They usually were able to get someone in to do repairs within a day or two. I had various delays with my househunt / move-in to the new place, and they were very accommodating and understanding when I needed to extend my rent by odd amounts of time (I had to stay an extra week into February). Tierney company sends workers to come and fix what you requested their services for and they do a bad sloppy job. They are cheap. They come and glue, tape and make a uglier mess with the paste they use for their sloppy unprofessional jobs. Because they do things this way, it does fix the problem temporarily but then I have to be the one calling them again for the same issue. I do not recommend renting from them. read more

We've been living in the property for three years now, and things have gone down hill. Tierney and Company no longer enforce their No Smoking property lease agreement, as our neighbors continue to smoke in the backyard and in the driveway outside our baby's nursery window. Our neighbor also has two roommates living with him. If you're sensitive to smoking or hope any lease terms are enforced, don't live on a tierney property. On the bright side we also had termites and they were taken care of quickly. So that was cool. read more

This leasing company sucks! The price and location might be convenient at El Dorado Apartments (San Jose/SJSU) but everything else is horrible. I am surprised that nobody says anything about the millions of issues in this apartment complex. First, the bathrooms and kitchen has molds! This is very bad to people's health because they eventually cause lung and respiratory problems. Second, the centralized heater, air conditioning, and half of the wall outlets do not work. It is so mind-boggling how the Tierney Company (leasing company) gets away with renting people especially students, units with foul, hazardous, and illegal circumstances. Third, the landlord and Tierney Company's customer service are unprofessional and tedious. They take forever as in months, to respond to maintenance requests, repairs, and other concerns. Yet when it comes to charging tenants money, they are very strict. This apartment complex need a whole new management because SJSU students do not deserve to keep up with this kind of shelter. There are so much more to say but if you do plan to live here, you'll find out the rest! These three are what I'm only highlighting as they are what comes in mind first. What a waste of location! It is unethical that SJSU students have to risk everything in staying here. For instance, tenants do not deserve to buy their own heaters and pay for crazy high electricity bills because Tierney Company does not care about the living situations. Tierney Company needs to be called out on letting their tenants even live in rooms with 50 degree Fahrenheit temperatures! Tenants are being undercut so bad by living here because tenants do not get to be reimbursed or anything for Tierney Company's deficiencies. El Dorado apartments is a horrible place. So my husband and I lived at the Scott location for over a year (almost 2) the rent was great and our neighbors who lived in the complex were outstanding. Everyone kept to themselves mostly and we never felt like we were not safe. Lots of kids! The place is nice and we really took care of it. But beware, had to deal with some visitors.....I do mean roaches. The first sighting was after we signed our lease and I was at the place late at night cleaning and 4 or 6 came from out the floor. I had to write Tierney a letter the next day before we moved our things in. We also had caulk openings around the place ourselves to try to keep them out. For a year, I had to keep reaching out to Tierney to have someone spray that place. If it wasn't the roaches, it was silver fishes or black spiders. We had to keep this place clean at all times because we didn't want them in our food. We kept everything in sealed containers. In the fall or spring, you will see Oriental Roaches all over the place down stairs due to mating and laying their eggs. So they will get in your place. And they also had German roaches (I had to do my research). Tierney does not have a pest control that comes out every 6 months or so but be prepared (and yes, we have pictures of all times we saw and killed roaches for our records). The last pest control that came out by request, did do a good job leaving bate for them and they were dying off. We never had anyone over our place. This was always stressful because you never knew when you would see one run across the floor or on the wall. When we left, we made sure every piece of funiture we owned was inspected so that we did not take them with us. Thank God it did not happen. The garbage is always full due to other people placing their garbage there as well. Tierney as a property management company, they are just okay. I have a bit of a grievance with them due to our deposit that we got back. They charged us $275 for clean up and the place was cleaned and we have the pictures to prove that. I understand cleaning the carpets which was only $75 but the full clean.....nope and the receipt they gave us doesn't even justify. I had to investigate the company on that receipt who did the cleaning and they do not even exist. The address is someone's apartment and when I called the number, it was someone who didn't even know what I was talking about. Gina told my husband that she doesn't deal with grievances when it comes to deposits. So who am I supposed to take this to? Even though Tierny is not the owner of the property on Scott, they are responsible for maintaining it and that place needs a lot of work done. Update: 3/3/18 - Tierney and Company did refund us the cleaning deposit later which I am now very happy about :) read more

Furnace was broken when I moved in. Many maintenance requests later, NOTHING has changed. It is still broken now. Also, I requested for a new fire alarm because mine would go off from STEAM from the shower. That shouldn't happen. I told Gina that this was an issue and she told me to "just close the door then". The unit doorknob was also very temperamental, and was never fixed with multiple maintenance requests. Very upset with this because it is the law for the company to provide a working heating system and fire alarms. read more

We started renting with Tierney at the Sunnyvale Ave location in a one bedroom. We then moved to a two bedroom at the Olive Ave location and really enjoyed our time living there! Both property's locations were amazing - close to many great restaurants, Target, grocery options, and within walking distance to CalTrain. Our neighbors in both places were phenomenal! So welcoming and wonderful! The Sunnyvale Ave location had a good sized bedroom - able to fit a king size bed, a walk in closet and an open kitchen/living area. Nice and cozy and would be perfect for a young couple. The Olive Ave apartment had spacious 2 bedrooms - able to fit a king size bed in each with large closets. It was a small one bathroom, but fine for my husband and I. My husband is 6'3 and the original shower head was too low for him to fit under. They came out immediately to accommodate him and raised it without hesitation! There was also a ton of closet space in the hallways. There were loads of windows, which gave great natural light throughout the space and the ability to open up the apartment to have a nice breeze throughout. Both locations had washer/dryer onsite. We have always paid rent on time. However, there was a time we had a trip planned over the first of the month and completely forgot to pay before we left. We called, explained the situation, and they were so kind and willing to work with us. We would definitely rent from Tierney & Co in the future! read more

I currently live in one of their properties, but not for much longer. I never had a single good experience with them. Just as an example... Two weeks ago, I tried to do my laundry. The coin slot on the washer jams when it gets full, which makes sense. But the washer does not start while the slot is jammed, which makes no sense. I did laundry on a Tuesday and the slot jammed because it was full. By banging it a few times, I got it to unjam and the washer started. I called Tierney & Co. to inform them that the coin repository was full. As usual, I got their voicemail when I called. (The workers in the office are lazy and do not like answering the phones.) I left a message. That was on Tuesday, mind you. The following Sunday, I tried to do laundry again. The coin repository had not been emptied, so this time it jammed and no amount of hammering would get it unstuck. My clothes already had detergent on them. And of course the complex only has one washer. So I took my clothes to a laundromat. I never did get my $1.50 back. This was only the last in a long series of annoyances. These folks do not have the most minuscule speck of competence or pride in their work. Thankfully, I am finally moving out this month and into an apartment with actual professional management. Great Experience! We lived in a Tierney-managed house in Saratoga for three years (2016-2019). The house itself was older, but very well maintained. During our lease, a number of appliances and other electronics did break down though, requiring us to reach out to the Tierney team. Our issues were always promptly resolved in a professional, timely and satisfactory manner. Gina and Kevin were our primary contacts and we really felt they cared and were keen to provide a solution to the issues that came up. Had been renting a house that got purchased by Tierny & Co. Now, we've been living with them as our landlords for a few years. Throughout, we've had some issues come up which are typical: broken leaky faucet, broken water heater, broken thermostat. All of which hadn't been installed by them, but that's besides the point. Every time I'd get on the phone and call their office about it, they were really quick with getting someone out here to work on the problem. Sometimes even on the same day and 90% of the time within the next day. And the problems were fixed right away, just like that, with minimal inconvenience to us. Otherwise, everything has been quiet, just renewing the lease is the only other time we interact. So, can't really ask for anything more. I dinged a star because there was one not great event: they had a crew come out to replace the roof. Which is fine, but they took way longer than they initially estimated (1.5 months vs 2 weeks) and it was an inconvenience. Then the next time it rained, the inside of my room got swamped. Which wasn't great. But I called them and they fixed it right away. S,o I wasn't happy about this event, but I think the company is only indirectly responsible since maybe they just got unlucky with the contractors they hired for the job. read more

I was undergoing a divorce when I moved in to one of their properties. I met Megan during the open house and she was very friendly and accommodating. We walked through each of the rooms and from that time, I began liking the place. I met Gina during the signing process and she was also very accommodating. She was very easy to talk to. Understanding what my current situation was a challenge itself for them. But they were there to make it easier for me. I got lot of well wishes from both of them and I appreciate it very much. They are both sweethearts! They all have been accommodating to me. I work in the construction business so I am familiar pretty much with the process on how to manage these properties. I appreciate their patience and consideration. It has been a difficult time for me, and I have been helped a lot by each one of them. They have a lot of courtesy and respect to their clients...so I heard that quite a few have stayed for years and years. That's saying something about their character. If you approach them without any courtesy nor respect....it just says about your character as well......and btw,...they also care! read more

Tierney & Co. manage a property we've been renting in Mountain View for the past three years. They have been exceptionally customer-oriented from the very beginning, when I first visited the property and applied for a lease with Kevin. I returned two months later after driving across the country with my family, and the lockbox was there as promised, and we were in our new home with a simple four digit code. Over the years we've had typical household maintenance issues, including leaking pipes indoors and out, and broken clothes and dish washers. In every case Tierney responded immediately, assessed the problem, and sent high quality repairmen or replaced the appliance. We couldn't be happier. read more

We've been living in their duplex for over 15 years. We've had nothing but problems with this company. Firstly every time you call them on the phone they're always rude. NO SUCH THING as customer services with these people. Secondly they have been raising our rent constantly... which initially isn't a big deal, but it obviously accumulates over time. Our duplex is an utter dump, and they refuse to fix anything unless they REALLY have to. Avoid this company at all costs, it's really not worth dealing with them. read more

Beware of this company when looking for a place to rent. They immediately demand a large "extra" deposit before lease signing; you have to pay them by the end of the day. This is a lose-lose deal for the tenant. If you choose to not move in, you lose the deposit. If you want to negotiate the terms of the lease, you lose the deposit. This "extra" deposit is not governed by the landlord/tenancy laws of California. If you value your money, you won't trust other people with it prior to signing a lease. read more

I don't see why there are these complaints. I'm guessing since they are old reviews maybe they have gotten new employees since. I have nvr had a problem with their service repairmen. They get the issue resolved first time around. Usually on time for their appointments (except for today). They get a repairman out to my house within 3 days MAX if it's the weekend. The lady in the office is friendly. I have pets and she was understanding and was able to accomodate them. I have no complaints. read more

Our first was in 2012 when we moved into their Los-Gatos Almaden duplex. 7 years later we are moving out of state other wise we would still be renting this beautiful property. Kevin and Gina and their team of maintenance personal, gardeners and plumbers over the years really took good care of all aspects of maintaining this property. The company does not care about the tenants they just collect the money. When you ask them to repair something they do a poor job. The complex I rent looks like it's abandon. There's roaches, bedbugs, spiders, and even rats !!!!!!. They won't do anything about it. The palm tree looks like it will be falling anytime soon. There are a lot of smokers and Gina the rude secretary says she can't do anything about it. The Windows are so old and still won't change them only for those who just rented recently cause they are paying more $ for rent. Don't rent with them not worth it!!! They have not updated the unit in what seems like decades and take days (if not weeks) to respond to/fix any issues. Tierney & Company has friendly management and staff/team. Kevin is very professional and at the same time he got a cool sense of humor (referring to S candies). : ) And Gina is simply wonderful. She is busy with tons of calls and admin. prjects on a daily basis but she manages to smile and take care of problems in timely manner! We just moved in (about 6 weeks ago). She sent someone right way to fix our garbage disposal the first week we moved in and then to replace the toilet with the new one, last week and to fix the draining problem in the bathtub yesterday. Everytime I emailed/called Gina for a repair work, she replies to me within 2-3 hours and she immediately contacts the handymen/repair team to schedule an appointment with them! And the repair team are on time, very skilled and speedy! So far, it's been a great experience interacting and working with Tierney & Company. Thank you guys! read more

This review is for the Dunsmuir Terrace unit. It is in such a great location and what looks like a nice community but please for the love of god renovate the inside. The worst customer service ever. My initial viewing of the home was delayed an hour because Kevin brought the wrong keys - which resulted into a quick look before work. After putting a deposit down, he forgot an appointment with my wife so she could view the home resulting in her waiting one half-hour at night in the dark. The receptionist actually argued with me about the cleaning of a unit as I am looking at the dead bugs, dirt and debris throughout the home. Every conversation with her(receptionist) turns into a complete waste of time. I went through this process with them with optimism thinking it will get better... wrong.
